We landed in Grand Teton and this was the midway halt as we wanted to start for Yellowstone next morning. The place is huge with a diner and open area for playing but cabins are filled with of mosquitoes. It was a very tough night because of mosquitoes. We found ourselves without anywhere to stay one night in the Tetons after our room fell through elsewhere. Someone recommended we try the Hatchet. There was only one room left so we took.it. I am so happy we did. My girls (8,11) were bummed we didn't get a hotel with a pool, but that was quickly forgotten after we checked in. They loved the food, the views, and the games outside to play were so much better than watching TV. The staff wad friendly and the breakfast was amazing. The guy who waited on us was super nice and we even got to put a pin on the map showing where everyone called home. Highly recommend. read more

don't go here if you want privacy. the rooms have a joint door that has zero noise cancellation so all i heard is my neighbors doing "it" non stop. and i could hear their tv, the lady constantly coughing, and all their conversations. not something i want to hear while im trying to relax. also they have a shop where you can buy things and i wanted 2 average sized waters which ended up being $8. like at that point the owners are just greedy. this is NOT a resort and i would recommend spending your money somewhere else that isn't trying to rip you off. for the amount of money you spend, you pretty much get a motel. read more

My wife reserved two cabins, one for us and one for our son, his wife and our 18 month old granddaughter. When we arrived the unhelpful clerk told us that that we did not have reservations. There was no cell service and my wife was unable to retrieve the reservation confirmation. When we asked to briefly use their wi-fi to retrieve the email the clerk told us that the wi-fi "was for guests only." OK, maybe the reservation foul-up was our fault? IDK. However, the same thing when I asked to use the wi-fi to do a quick search for another nearby place to stay. "Sorry," I was rudely told. Unbelievable. So we finally left and headed back towards Jackson with a baby that was hungry and tired. Luckily we stopped at a gas station down the road and they pointed us towards a ranch that had cabins and they had one available. (The Heart 6 ranch). After reading the many reviews about the mosquitos, mice and rude clerks at the Hatchet "resort," I'm glad we didn't end risking our health as well as the baby's health by staying there. It wouldn't have cost them anything to let us use their phone or wi-fi. It's a wonder that they stay in business. read more

The Hatchet Resort is 50 miles from the hospital, my husband was in the ICU, I could not travel that far. I got a hotel across the street from the hospital. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! Unless you would like cold showers, sleepless nights, and potentially nasty unknown bug bites. While the staff was kind, they were unwilling or unable to help our situation: We paid $1200 for two nights for two adjoining suites. The beds in the common area were very squeaky due to the cheap plywood base and caused us to move the mattress to the floor. Also, there was a notable amount of flying bugs in the room. While we tried to remove the bugs, during the night, a member of our party suffered a nasty bug bight. Additionally, the lights on the porch are angled to shine right in to the room, and you guessed it, no way to turn it off! However, worst of all was the hot water. There simply was none for the majority of our showers. We were told many different things by the staff but the last I was told was all units use the same system and since the complex is on well water, cold water was to be expected from the showers. We were offered no accommodation for our concerns. The front desk attendant simply said, the manager had to decide on these matters and he could not be reached if it was not an emergency. We were told cold showers does not constitute an emergency but rather this is a regularity. We were told the manager would call us after the trip, and they never did. The most disappointing thing was that the owner was unwilling to help or acknowledge the problem therefore I would expect these issues to persist. read more

Disclaimer: I did not stay at this establishment but I feel that my experience is still worth putting on here. My friend and I had just got gas by the Hatchet. We then went towards Jackson and were in an accident. No one was injured, but the truck was not drivable. We walked back to the Hatchet and walked inside. We talked to an older woman and explained we had no service and were in an accident up the road. We asked if we could use a phone or connect to the wifi. She stated that we couldn't use the phone and that wifi was for guests only. She then asked us to leave and stated she would call the county sheriff. We walked back to the truck and waited for 2 hours. No sheriff ever came. We finally had someone stop and they were able to call the sheriff and they stated they never got a call from her/ or the Hatchet. Take your business elsewhere. Keep driving!!! Why 1 star? For starters, the server treated my brother with special needs quite poorly. When my brother started his loud self talk, we did our best to keep him quite. One great avenue to lower his self talk is to order him a soft drink. After three, the server said he could not have any more because there are only three refills. Regardless, we paid for more and were met with frustration from the server. Who treats someone with special needs that way... for a cheap Diet Pepsi...? Wow! The server was also rude when we wanted to split the bill three ways; giving us grief when we described the split by saying "this isn't helpful at all..." (we only had about 10 people and most got water and burgers). The $47 steak was cold and cooked poorly. I wouldn't have paid $20 for the steak. The sides were small and unflattering. There is no way the "market price" was $47 for the steak, no way! The burgers were also poor, freezer burnt with cold sides. The server again reacted angrily when we approached the bar for the bill after waiting for some time. My brother with special needs was getting loud with his self talk and we wanted to leave so not to disturb the rest of the customers. The server said, "I do not appreciate you coming to the bar and asking for your bill. It disturbs the flow for me and my employees." We apologized and told her about my brother. I had no problems staying here. Keep in mind there's not much to do in Moran. It's you and nature. Perfect place if you don't like people! It's literally in the middle of no where. This place is about 10 minutes to Grand Teton and two hours to Yellowstone National Park. There's a restaurant that offers breakfast and another restaurant that offers dinner. Along side is a gas station and a gift shop. The room is basic, think of it as a cabin. It offers no AC but they do provide a basic plug in fan. And there's no cable. Atleast not in the room I stayed in. The outside is cute. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Almost 5 stars but wouldn't want to give the wrong impression. Let's be clear, this is a cabin motel in a beautiful setting. We loved our stay. We had suite 35. Not all rooms are like this I'm sure. The view was amazing and the pictures they have posted didn't do our room justice. It was surprisingly lovely. We did have a gorgeous views.... along with the family of squirrels living under our room . You can hear them chattering but you get used to it. The bed was comfy, not perfect but nice nonetheless. We absolutely LOVED everything about our 1-week stay at Hatchet Resort with the best owners, staff, service & beautiful, quiet location for exploring Grand Teton & Yellowstone NPs. Our larger room was sparkling clean & toasty warm with a large window with nice views, a porch with rocking chairs, easy access from our car, comfy beds, good hot shower/ bath, TV/WiFi, Keurig coffee pot with coffee & tea provided, microwave & mini fridge & ecofriendly body care products. We enjoyed the well-maintained grounds with yard games, pet area & paths for short walks, a viewing deck & 2 onsite restaurants in rustic settings with friendly service of delicious breakfasts & dinners before & after the short distance from Grand Teton Moran entrance. Because we enjoyed Hatchet so much, Hatchet's owners graciously took care of us to extend our stay & even accommodated us for an unexpected 2nd stay a week later. We've already reserved our next stay at Hatchet where we'll always stay when visiting Grand Tetons & Yellowstone. We stayed here for two nights during our grand Teton visit. The check in process was smooth and the room was clean. They also provide room service and our room was cleaned and nicely arranged on the second day. This resort is close to Grand Teton but most of the major attractions and hikes are atleast 30-40 minutes drive from here. There are also very limited food options in Moran. We had breakfast at the Hatchet Grill. They had good breakfast options but they are heavily understaffed which sometimes results in long wait time for food. read more

There weren't a lot of options for where to stay for a reasonable price outside Grand Teton NP when it wasn't open for camping, however I'm so glad it worked out this way because the Hatchet Resort was a lovely stay at a very convenient location! We stayed in a suite which had a separate front room and bedroom and a very nice bathroom, it also had a front porch area and patio looking out at the mountains. Everything was nice and clean and inviting! We had dinner at the restaurant here and the food and drinks were great, they even did a sack lunch for us to take into the park the next day. We were excited to stay here and picked Hatchet Resort based on location and that there was a restaurant on site. The room itself was nice with comfortable beds but be aware there is no sound proofing at all between the walls so you will literally hear your neighbors going to the bathroom as well as hearing all their conversations. They do not have air conditioning or fans in the restrooms so there is no option for running either to block out all the noise. Also there are a huge number of mosquitos swarming around the motel. The rooms do not have screen doors and they do not have bug repelling bulbs outside you so you will end up with many bugs in the room. We went down to eat and stood by the "Wait to be seated" sign for ten minutes. Multiple staff members walked by and made eye contact and then simply looked away without speaking to us. One of the staff members instead had a lengthy conversation near us with other guests but no one spoke to us at all. My daughter and I left after waiting more than 10 minutes. I was so disappointed by the rude behavior and poor customer service. I wish i had chosen one of the many cheaper options that surely would have been a better experience. Keep driving to Jackson. When I opened the door to my room, it absolutely reeked. I then found a mousetrap under the table in my room after killing multiple mosquitoes in the room. What a pleasant first impression. The room didn't provide any facial tissues. Just toilet paper. Since there is no fridge or microwave in the room, I asked to borrow a microwave at the front desk and was met with a cold NO. The man at the front desk was extremely rude and unwelcoming. The walls in the bathrooms were are also extremely thin. You can hear people's entire conversations next door. What a joke of a "resort." Absolutely not worth the price I paid. read more

What could be more cozy than a log cabin in the Grand Teton National Park? Enter the Hatchet Resort in Moran, WY. It was our home in preparation for viewing the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. It was refurbished recently, and the suite we were in was delightful. The bedroom had a very comfortable bed with a generous rack for clothes. A wilderness feeling was present throughout with antlers for lighting and horns for towel racks. The temperature was amazingly comfortable. We slept with the windows open and the shades drawn, but with the radiant heat warming the floors, it was a perfect temperature even when the outside temp dropped to the 40's. We had a small flat screen, microwave and frig which we didn't use, and a Keurig coffee maker which was so convenient. Curiously there was no Kleenex and no hair dryer. The front office area had beer, but no wine. There were two restaurants on the property, and we had our dinners in the main restaurant. Brandy was our gracious and excellent server, and she was kind enough to order wine and cocktails and take them to our room. The dinners were very good, with excellent elk tenderloins with a huckleberry sauce. Our fellow travelers enjoyed the salads, bison burgers, fish and garlic bread. They had a nice courtyard area with an enclosed gazebo, frisbee golf area and swings for the kids. This was a very nice resort for families and weary travelers. read more

Let me begin by saying that I docked one star for the service at the restaurant. The stay and the food at the restaurant was pleasant. On our final day we were seated at the door and it was a bit chilly. There were multiple tables open and we asked if it would be okay to move to a different table. The server responded by saying " you will stay where you are". I am not sure why this rude response when the same server was really courteous to the demands of other clients. Other than that incident there were no complaints. Probably some people in there restaurant feel entitled to be rude as they have monopoly in the area The room service was great, our sheets and towels were changed everyday. Loved the omlette and huckleberry french toast. Other servers in the restaurant were overwhelmed but still were very accommodating and patient even when our group arrived at separate times. Reading the reviews and I don't understand why anyone thought the manager was rude. We found him very pleasant and very welcoming. The cabins are super cute, came with a Keurig with coffee, hot chocolate, and tea options. They have a super sweet and friendly dog that was hanging out in their gift shop that totally made my day to see and they have so many snack, drink, and merch options in their shop. There's a gazebo, disc golf, and corn hole on property and the lawn is gorgeous to hang out on. They also have a gas station on site! We were, however, disappointed to find out that breakfast not only ended at 10, but that they stopped seating before 9:30. There was no mention of it so it sort of disrupted our plans and I had to deal with a whiny kid that, in turn, made me whiny. We were worried since it was cold out, but our food came out fast and we lucked out because the sun got just strong enough to make it pretty and breezy and we sat on the lawn to eat. The food was SO worth it! My sister had the burrito and loved it. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich and it was the best one I've had on this whole vacation. The hash browns are VERY crispy. It was too crispy for my sister to enjoy, but I usually ask for mine to be crispy and forgot to ask this time, so I was thoroughly excited and enjoyed it very much. The kids got French toast (one with huckleberry and one with blueberry) and they said it was very good instead. I'd definitely come back here again. On June 22, 2011, after a day of touring Grand Teton National Park, we arrived at our nearby lodging, the Hatchet Resort. Apparently built around the 1950s in a motel-meets-log cabin design that works nicely in its surroundings, the Hatchet Resort retains its original charm while incorporating updates such as newer bathrooms, an additional restaurant for dinner only, and WiFi. The staff here is seasonal and I got the impression that they love the area and their jobs give them the ability to go out and enjoy it. Our room was #1, the last in a long row of rooms, and was furnished with vintage Western furniture that I briefly considered loading into my truck (the nightstand even had a miniature horse shoe for a pull). The bathroom shower was replaced recently and was very attractive in large earthy tiles. WiFi was iffy but eventually worked. Dinner was at the on-site restaurant that's only open for dinner (the diner is open for breakfast and lunch, and its kitchen is used at dinner). Realizing that the staff was seasonal, I didn't expect much from my dinner (aside from the huge window overlooking the Tetons - amazing!), but the dinner was extremely good. Better Half had cornmeal-dusted trout, which I tasted and it was superb, and I had what was possibly the best rib-eye steak ever - and I'm very picky about my rib-eyes. Service was well-intentioned but if one is expecting upscale service, stick to Jackson Hole. Though the restaurant had a full bar, our server asked if we "needed" beer or wine with dinner. I got the impression that no one on the staff felt comfortable mixing drinks. I suggest getting a basic bartender guide or app; there's money to be made off those full booze bottles. Breakfast was in the vintage diner and was excellent. I can't recall my entree but the home fries with sausage crumbles was outstanding. The vegetarian at the next table wasn't so enthusiastic, however. She acted like the cook (who had also worked the dinner shift) should have known her food preferences. One last note. The gentleman working the resort's front desk, whose name I never got, was really nice, mellow, and handsome enough in his low-slung cowboy hat and Levis that the two dudes from 'Brokeback Mountain' would have quit each other for him. This is meant as a compliment, trust me. If we ever find ourselves in the vicinity again, we will definitely stay and eat at the Hatchet Resort. read more

Advice for Wedding Planners This review is provided based on our experience working with The Hatchet Resort for our daughter's wedding for the benefit of others desiring to have their wedding at this venue. We began our discussions with the Lodging Manager about a year ahead of the desired wedding date. As of this posting we recommend you ask for Val Meinen. She is very collegial and will guide you through their room block process and disclosing the room rates. The Hatchet has a variety of rooms from a standard room with bath, to suites and rooms with shared baths at different rates. There is also the option of renting The Osprey House, which is an A-frame house with full kitchen, small living room, queen bedroom, two single beds in separate bedroom and bath down stair and three double bedrooms and bath upstairs. The rooms are sparely appointed and rustic. The beds were uniformly comfortable, plenty of hot water, wifi had ample bandwidth and was very reliable. Satellite television was available in every unit. We would rate the overall quality of the lodging as average. Once the lodging arrangement was in place, we started our coordination with the banquet manager. Here you want to ask for Brandy Roberts. The Hatchet doesn't use a standard Banquet Event Order or similar process. Instead, we discussed the menu options and conveyed our desires for the rehearsal dinner and reception meal and Brandy told us what they could and couldn't do. Eventually we were able to establish prices for each meal and add on the sales tax and gratuity. Each bill had to be settled at the end of the night. The food was well prepared and served as a buffet. Disposable bamboo plates, regular silverware and plastic cups and glasses were used. We had separately contracted for a tent, chairs, tables, dance floor and lighting to mitigate exposure to COVID. Overall, the presentation was nice and quality of the food was average. As the rehearsal dinner and reception date drew nearer we were asked to confirm our head count for each meal. The number you provide is the number the Hatchet will prepare food for and you will be billed for at the negotiated price including tax and gratuity. No deposit was asked or provided. While we had a budgetary number in mind for each meal our recommendation is make sure you have plenty of credit on your favorite credit card, especially if you are planning an open bar. One option is to set an upper limit on your bar bill and have the staff cut off service at that level. All food and all beverages must be procured through them. No outside liquor or beverages are permitted. Brandy suggested two special drinks themed around the Huckleberry that were a big success. Dealing with Val and Brandy was easy and generally responsive. Remember you aren't the only one have an event at their resort. On the flip side is the Pat or Patrick who is the Day Manager for The Hatchet. Patrick is ill suited for customer interface or customer service. We all know finding service industry workers is a challenge. With that knowledge our entire group was sensitive to reduced level of expected service. There were numerous comments on requests for extra towels, additional complimentary coffee packets or other asundry items being rudely rejected by Pat. We would rate the quality of service from the registration office as below average/substandard. Since the lodging and food service are rated as average and office registration as below average why hold your wedding at The Hatchet Resort? The answer is location, location, location. The view of the Grand Tetons is a spectacular backdrop for a wedding venue. Since their business model is based on pay as you go we strongly recommend detailed advanced planning. Confirm what is and what isn't going to be provided by The Hatchet Resort. Avoid contact with Patrick in the front office, seek out Val and Brandy and we are confident you will have a memorable wedding venue. read more

Never been treated so bad at a restaurant as at the Whetstone - on sight at the Hatchet Resort. Brandy, who we found out was the manager, was extremely rude for no reason. We waited at the 'wait to be seated' sign without anyone helping us. After asking her if we could get an empty table, she copped an attitude and told us it was carry out only. Again, no sign, no way of knowing. She said I had a bad attitude. I wouldn't spend a penny there. My friend bought take out and the food was just okay. I stayed at The Hatchet Resort for three nights. The first two nights were fine for the most part. However, during the third night, at 2:30AM, one detector in my cabin (either CO2/fire) begin chirping very loudly once every few minutes. This woke up my entire family. After about 30 minutes, and a few more incredibly loud chirps, I tried calling for help, and going to the front desk. Unfortunately, they have nobody on call after 10 PM, even for emergencies. I thought about muting the detectors, but they were way too high to reach without a ladder. After another 30 min or so, the chirping stopped, but at that point I was too rattled to fall back asleep. Bottom line: if anything goes wrong after 10 PM, and you need help, there is nobody to answer the phone. read more

My mom and I just got back from our five day trip to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone. We planned our trip last minute so this was basically one of our only options that was affordable. The location was meh for us - it took approximately 20 minutes to get to the entrance of GTNP and 45 to the southern entrance of Yellowstone, but since Yellowstone is so massive, we spent A LOT of time in our car driving back and forth to the hotel. One morning, it took us 3 hrs to get to the northern tip of the park at Mammoth Springs. I probably wouldn't stay here again simply because of the distance but other than that and the mediocre food at the restaurant, everything was great. The room was clean and tidy. Housekeeping kept our room clean. The property was quiet and had the most beautiful view of the Tetons, especially at sunset. The hours of the office/store were strange to me (not opening until 8 or 9, I can't remember) since you have to get up so early and be out the door ASAP in the morning and therefore could never get any snacks or beverages. This is a pleasant place to stay but the the management is horrible. After the first night there, housekeeping came in to clean and left the door open. A phone charger was missing and I immediately let the general manager know. Pat was extremely rude and when I reached out after I got home, he blamed me and began yelling and screaming over the phone. I also emailed the hotel only to find out he goes my a fake female name. He blamed me and said they were not responsible and then said 'this conversation' is over. Pat is an angry bully and it is a shame that the is the manager. He is a horrible person that thinks yelling and screaming will make the problem go away. The rooms are ok and did not have any other issues, but the manager was terrible. Convenient location to Grand Teton NP. Having a gas station on site was helpful for our long drives. Rustic style of rooms were cute, but perhaps a little small. My only other knock on Hatchet Resort is not really their fault. With the COVID-19 pandemic going on, the food options were limited and we waited a long time for food some days. That being said, I would definitely stay here again if I was ever in Moran. read more

We lucked into a last minute booking at The Hatchet just when the National Parks reopened after the pandemic. With 5 large bedrooms, The Osprey Cabin suited our family of 6 perfectly. The well equipped kitchen had a large refrigerator, full stove, microwave, and every utensil/pot/pan needed for cooking for a large family. (We brought our regular coffee maker as the one there was mini) Living room had ample seating for games/cards. We ate at the restaurant 2x and the food was decent and service very friendly. No laundry facility presented a problem for a long stay but we managed. Long road trips to GT & Yellowstone were made easy with gas at the Hatchet. Bought a 6 pack of beer here, was shorted $6.00. Partly my fault for trusting the owner. Went back to confront the owner who sold me the beer, said register wasn't short which doesn't make sense because I was OVERCHARGED, obviously an excuse. Suspecting foul play here. The staff at the front desk is really rude! We had breakfast at the Hatchet Grill. The auto-charged me 18% tip and the waitress is super rude. Don't come to this place. read more

This place is amazing because of the service provided by the restaurant staff. Even during these difficult times for everyone, employees and customers, Brandy, Addy, Olivia and Selena were absolutely amazing!!!! They are by far the best servers and bartenders in the area.
