I like how they separate the rice, protein, and sides at this poke place. Sometimes, when poke places put the stuff on the rice, the sauce makes the rice soggy. Separating the ingredients let's me pick which parts I want to eat. The fish at this place is also really good. The portion sizes are a bit smaller than other places that I've been to, but the quality is high. The salmon was fatty and rich, the tuna was lean and meaty, and the hamachi was sweet and buttery. All of the pieces of fish were cut to about the same size which shows their attention to detail. The only complaint I have is that the sushi rice wasn't really sushi rice. It was just short grain rice that was stuck together which I didn't really enjoy. But other than the rice, this is a solid poke place and I would definitely come back. read more

I am giving the restaurant 2 stars because they very obviously changed the ingredients to a lower quality. I loved this place for their spicy ahi and it was made the way it's made in Hawaii. Although, not anymore. The spicy ahi is no longer cut cubes of ahi with the sesame spicy mayo sauce, it's now shredded scraps of ahi with a Sriracha sauce. I'm so disappointed in this direction they went with the menu. I feel a bit ripped off because I paid more than I have in the past and the quality of fish is terrible. After a long week, my appetite demanded one of the best creations that that cuisine has to offer in the simplest form know to us humans, the Poke Bowl. Hashtag Poki is alright, but there's definitely room for improvement. Medium was my selection & what surprised me was a bit of how scarce the selection was. The scoops were a bit small. When you present a selection, having people feel like they're missing out on basic sides by only being able to choose 2/5 of the available leaves a bitter feeling that you're not able to select all the above. Definitely understandable for avocado & maybe certain other higher costs ingredients. Also get the Edamame Beans later down the road so you can try the other salads. The rice was a bit salty, & the ingredients were not as fresh. I wish the sauce choices included a shoyu, teriyaki, or even a eel based sauce. Having a sweet flavor profile helps even out the spicier sauces to have that balance for a complete dish which is something I'm hoping to see! Overall its worth a try especially when you're stuck waiting out the traffic, or close by, & hopefully it'll be a place we put that number sign next to. read more

Portion-wise, I think this is probably one of the "pricier" poke places in Berkeley, not to mention it's also the farthest from campus compared to Poke Bar or Poke Parlor. I only say this because Hashtag does ball scoops of rice, but the other places fill the entire bottom of their containers with rice. It was never a problem for me because I have a smaller appetite, but for hungrier college students, keep this in mind if you want your poke bowl to satiate you through a full afternoon of classes. That said, I do actually think you pay for better quality when you come here, so it was sometimes worth the extra money and effort for me. I have been going to this place for a couple of months now for lunch on a work day. I crave it on the weekends when not working. The ingredients are so fresh. My favorite dressing they use is the yuzu. I've always loved lemon juice in my food. The only complaint I have is that they charge an extra $0.25 for dressing on the side. You don't have to pay if you include it in your food. I would totally do this if my my health didn't require me to limit my sodium intake. I asked the gentleman making my order today to use less. His version of less was still more than I usually can eat. It just feels a little unfair but I digress. If you like fresh poke then I suggest you try this. The staff is friendly & helpful. 12/11/21 I'd say this California Poke (my term) is probably the most expensive I've paid for yet. It was $17.50 for their largest size, plus $1.50 for some avocado, so about $19 each bowl. Some of the fish was particularly fresh and flavorful, while some other pieces were mushy and not of the same quality. But overall, again, it didn't suck. The white "sushi rice" wasn't very good, but was still edible. The rice was clumpy and a tad mushy/sticky. The brown rice was extra al dente--I guess you could optimistically call it "nutty." Edible too, but not optimal. Anyway, for this area I ain't expecting much--everything hipster or trendy is always gonna cost you, and I'm just happy this poke didn't suck hell. I have to say that I am really impressed with the Poke here! I've finally tapped into the poke craze and Hashtag Poki is really doing it justice! Hashtag Poki is the one of the newest poke bowl spots to arrive in the Berkeley area. My employees and I are always looking for new lunch spots to conquer, and on this particular day, we were on the hunt for poke. I had bookmarked Hashtag Poki some months back when they first debuted back in September of last year. After doing some research, I decided to stop by and finally try them out. Hashtag Poki is located in the Elmwood district of Berkeley right on the corner of Telegraph and Dowling next to Edible Arrangements. They offer signature poke bowls in three different sizes (mini, regular, and large), and you can also create your own bowl. Prices are fairly decent with the mini bowl costing $8.95 and the large bowl costing $12.95. Since this was our first time coming here, my employee and I both opted for the mini bowl. The mini bowl comes with one base (rice, wonton chips, or salad mix), two sides (various salads and edamame pods), two scoops of protein, and as many mix-ins, sauces, and toppings as you'd like. We both created our own bowl and chose rice as our base (I chose brown rice), salmon and shrimp as our proteins, crab salad and edamame pods as our sides, and spicy mayo and spicy regular sauce as our sauces. My employee kept her bowl fairly simple by adding cucumbers, jalapenos, edamame beans, nori, and sesame seeds. I took a little ride on the wild side and added everything except for avocado, wasabi, nori, furikake, and massago. The mini bowl looked really small when we received it, but I have to admit that it was very filling! All of the contents tasted really fresh and the spicy sauces added a nice mild kick. My favorite part was the crab salad! That crab salad was super DELISH! We both just ended up mixing the crab salad and the beans from the edamame pods in with everything else. We were both really satisfied with our bowls and I scraping the bottom of the to-go box because it was just that yummy! I only wish that they would allow two bases for the mini as opposed to just one. I would have loved to have had some green salad mix in there as well. They offer complimentary cucumber water and other canned and bottled drinks for purchase. I was excited to see that they sold macaron ice cream sandwiches and mochi ice cream as well to satisfy my sweet tooth! The ordering process is similar to that of Chipotle where you get in line and choose your mix-ins as you go while they prepare your bowl. One of the ladies who helped me provided me with menu slips that I could pre-fill to make it easier for me since I had multiple orders. The staff here is very friendly and fast and they seemed excited to help everyone who came in. The inside is very modern looking with lots of tables and counter style seating if you are dining in solo. I really dig the "Hashtag Poki" name and I think it's so adorable how they actually have a #Poki logo with the fish on display. This location also participates in food delivery which is awesome if you don't want to drive down to the store to get your poke fix. Overall, I think this is a great new addition to Berkeley and I'm glad that I can now indulge in some poke goodness for lunch or when I'm in the area! read more

I was craving something healthy after eating way too many carbs the other day when passing by Berkeley. Hashtag Poki is a hidden gem in Berkeley. I'm a huge fan of poke bowls but one of my biggest complaints is how the taste of a poke bowl is masked when tossed in a bowl and mixed with a dozen other ingredients and sauces (sort of like a build-your-own pizza with too many random toppings). Hashtag Poki is similar to places in Hawaii where the fish is the emphasis and the sides, salad or rice are well, on the side! The menu is pretty simple. Choose a size, bases, sides, proteins and any additional toppings you want. The different sizes correspond to how many proteins you want (Mini - 2, Regular - 3, Large 4). I got a regular bowl with brown rice and spring mix as my bases, macaroni salad and wakame (seaweed) salad as my sides and salmon, tuna and hamachi as my proteins. For sauces, the spicy original + yuzu was just the right amount of spice. One bite and I knew this place was legit. The salmon, tuna and hamachi were by far the freshest I've had in the Bay and brought back fond memories of all the poke I had in Hawaii the year before. The rice is well-seasoned and a great compliment to the fish. Lastly, this place has macaroni salad which is kind of a rarity! After eating so many poke bowls where everything is tossed together, I really enjoyed having bases, sides and proteins side-by-side to appreciate the individual flavors.
