Talk about penny pinching to get everyday "dollar" out of your customer. Unfortunately after coming here for several months I never noticed the upcharge. Quick take: Yes, decent espresso…read more Coffee Snob Version: First some background to be fair. I buy and roast my own beans and tried beans from all over the world. I have an Excel file full of roasting profiles per bean with what worked and what was less good. I tend to like African and Asian beans. I have use the same Breville machine for 15 years, drink espresso and espresso based drinks exclusively. Yes I would consider myself a coffee snob. I live around the corner from here and have meant to come try them for a while. I was sick a few weeks ago so missed two roasting Fridays, I roasts every Friday and ran out of my own beans. As you know if you are reading the Coffee Snob version, Sbux disappoints, so hey... perfect opportunity to try here! What to try... curious to know about their beans, I ordered a Dopio and an Americano. The Dopio lets me experience just the bean, the Americano what it tastes like dilluted, the flavor can change a bit. The Americano also tells me how much water they add. I tend to make mine with equal parents espresso and water, there is an actual name for this that eludes me at the moment. What was odd was that as they pulled the double espresso shot, there was an unusual volume of crema on top, I actually saw the Barista dump some of the crema off before pouring the remainder in my cup. This is caused by a few things but beans that are too recently roasted is a primary cause. Freshly roasted means usually need at least a week to off as the carbon dioxide in the beans. All that crema was likely CO2 relates, so if anything would have made the shot undrinkablly bitter... And the Barista seemed to know this! I have had beans that needed a month to stabilize. One day it's sharp and bitter, as if by magic, the flavor has changed entyrly and is wonderful! The flavor of the Dopio would tend to support this as it was on the sharp side. That sharpness came through in the Americano which was full to the brim. The fix is simple, I add a small amount of whipped cream and swirl it in. When I get a less than ideal roast at home, this is the fix. I'm certain milk based drinks, cappuccino, breve, etc would overcome this easily. Will I go back, if I am out of beans, definitely, but now I know to add a bit of whipped cream!

I'm always full from lunch or dinner so I've never had a desire to grab a drink after a meal. So I'm happy I got to stop in today. I was greeted by a sweet barista behind the counter. She was making a couple drinks. Her counterpart came out of nowhere and greeted me by surprise. I got my drink squared away with her and waited along the side for me drink. I got an iced sugar free English coffee americano today. Of course with room for cream. My drink was perfectly made. It had a good amount of espresso to ice. It wasn't watered down. It had the right amount of cream and English toffee. This drink was so much better than my initial drink that I threw away. I didn't feel bad for tossing it after getting this drink. It's such a bummer it took me so long to come back to this joint. I remember vividly liking this place when I first came. It's crazy how time has flown by. We chatted with others at our table, enjoyed some delicious food, coffee, and even peaberry tea (a favorite). My husband especially enjoyed the roasting facility tour, which was led by a well-educated coffee enthusiast. She handed out amazing facts, generous tips, and favorite coffees. So I got myself an iced americano with sugar free vanilla and room for cream. I had asked the barista for cream to be poured in the back by him. I had told him about my new kidney when I ordered and that I can't really use communal things. He proceeded to tell me the cream was at the table. I really didn't want to use it but I did. I poured a little of it out before I added the cream to my drink. I also used a napkin to hold the handle. I try not to be a germaphobe but it's hard not to be when your immune system is non existent. I made my way outside to sit under the sun and absorb the afternoon energy. Checking out local coffee joints is always fun for me so I stopped in today for my afternoon caffeinated beverage. The coffee shop is smaller, more intimate. I love the setting of this place. It looks like a log cabin. There's a few tables to sit at, comfy chairs to chill and enjoy your drink. All it's missing a fireplace. I could sit in front of the fireplace, sipping on my coffee for hours. The most perfect way to enjoy your coffee. There was only one barista working and she was hustling! There was a couple drinks that she was making for guests ahead of me. There was also a gentleman waiting to order and someone was also in the drive thru. I didn't mind waiting, it gave me some time to look over the drink menu and goodies that were available. I appreciate that they have a fun Valentines menu out. They also have quite a few speciality drinks. It's fun to step outside of your normal drink once in a while so I grabbed the Lucky Moose today. Since they have a great variety of sugar free syrups, I was able to get my drink sugar free. The Lucky Moose is a vanilla, caramel and Irish cream breve. I was kinda nervous having all these different flavors in one drink but it was worth a shot! My drink was tasty! The flavors all together are a little different but good. I am happy that I got to try it but it's probably something I won't get again. Maybe I'll do one less flavor next time. The breve was creamy. The flavors were noticeable. The espresso was bitter but balanced. It was a great iced breve. This place would be fun to chill at when the weather is nicer. There's tables and chairs outside with a nice awning. Grab a slice of pizza next door and then grab a goody to snack on as a dessert with an iced coffee. Talk about a good afternoon! Food never disappoints. Dining in or to go, always perfect. We often do to go order for Shakespeare Festival. Easy call in early afternoon, order for family, pick up on the way. Today I had the breakfast burrito. Seemed small but was very filling. It was also flavorful. The salsa was awesome and worth the extra 60 cents.
