This is the grocery store we use--- has a large variety of items which is nice! Lots of weekly sales which is nice as well- they don't have a gluten free (allergy section) which sucks but oh well whole foods is right down the road--- layout is a bit funky but over all good grocery store! Though one comment when we went there today some guy who worked there was blocking one side with a cart of ice cream he was trying to put away and they had a display in the way so I was forced to ask him to move so I could get through and you would thought I asked for his first born! I tried to take his picture to post here on yelp but my husband yelled "why are you taking pictures" and he saw me trying to take him picture and start to hide his face! Bummer ! read more

The only reason they don't get a five is because you can't buy liquor there. I know, it's not their fault...but coming from a California boy I've gotta maintain some standards. Everything else about this place is top notch, beautiful store with great service. Plus, they've got "race car carts" and free balloons for my daughter :). And their yogurt rack?! WTF, it's incredible! I've never wanted to eat yogurt in a store more than I ever have in my life! Great selection, fresh fruit and vegetables...and their pre-made selection of soups and meals is delicious. Wish they would deliver like Farm Fresh...that would be enough to get them the fifth star. They have very good deals on vitamins in the pharmacy. Don't care for the lay out of the store, though; only because I'm so used to shopping at a different grocery store. It's hard to park in their lot so I park on the street, which is no problem. Overall appears to be a nice store. I enjoy having the VIC card, which can also be used in the pharmacy. read more

I've had one bad apple too many to stay quiet any longer. For the prices they charge, the produce in this store is the pits. Dried out garlic, too ripe, mushy mangos, moldy strawberries, and fresh herbs that make me realize why some people hate cilantro. I would guess well over half of the apples I have bought here are mealy. The entire produce section is either too small or not laid out properly, because even when it's not very busy it feels cramped. The prices on general grocery items are also too high. Occasionally there will be a good sale on fresh meat, and the 10/$10 greek yogurt sales are appreciated. But for granola bars, cereal, frozen foods, spices, etc. - I've found that Target is well worth the trip and a much better option. read more

I've never been to an establishment in which the employees seem to be TRYING to get in the way of customers. Every. Single. Time. For years. Not thrilled to have had the checkout clerk fail to ask for my VIC card and then tell me when I asked about it that it was too late and I could stand in line again with my receipt. Oh well--at least he gave me the piddly 5% senior discount. Nine years ahead of schedule. read more

After sending the email to Harris Teeter's Customer Service I received an email for HT-C apologizing for the poor customer service act done by the pharmacy clerk. I also. spoke the the GM of the store, and was assured that the clerk received counsel. How successful that would be really is up to the clerk. Anyway I added 1 more star for their effort. read more

This is a very nice store and conveniently located by my home. Ive often had an issue with their specials in that the special has ended but the price is still up and not realizing it has ended. I'm very busy and am usually in and out before work. Quite often they would just give it to me for the sale price due to their error but more recently they have not. Today this happened and I ended up holding up the line while someone went to price check, I know it was on sale because I bought one yesterday, came back and stated it was full price even though the price tag was 8.99 not 12.99, a big difference and I know for a fact the 8.99 tag was still up. She stated that she has to remove a lot of the price tags for the items on sale. It may sound trivial but I feel like I'm getting tricked into buying more expensive items thinking they're on sale. unfortunately I will be shopping at Farm Fresh on 21st from now on. read more

Its a nice store but the pharmacy still can't work out their refill notification system after over a year, the prices are awfully high, deli lines can be extremely long, and the last few times i have been in, the produce Ive looked at (clementines, romaine lettuce, and ginger) has been moldy which seems of no concern to the employees...IMO they are slacking off and price gouging those of us who are just trying to find a decent grocery store in Norfolk. read more

This is nice and conveniently placed in the Ghent area. I have a milk and nut allergy, so I love that they have a small selection of items that I can buy, especially as far as ice cream goes. (Try the Soy Delicious brand!) It'd be nice if they had Tofutti, but you can't have everything, I guess. The staff here has always been very nice, so I have no true complaints here. The only downfall is the parking lot, which is on the small side. read more

Since its recent renovations, this HT has really taken a turn for the better. The store layout is still confusing, but at least the seafood area doesn't smell like dead fish anymore. You can't beat that produce area though. Everything is so nice and fresh, and if you buy seasonal products, there is always a great deal going on, especially things like fruits. I really really like their VIC card deals and have been able to save quite a bit on my grocery trips. read more

This is the only Harris Teeter I have shopped at (I usually go to the commissary) and it has a pretty good selection of items although a bit pricey. Their salad bar is legit as is their rotisserie chicken--my go to, "I am a lazy wife" quick meal. Their pre-packaged fruit, however, is disgusting and always bad. I purchased it twice and the watermelon was sour and bad, as was the cantaloupe and honeydew melon. Totally annoying. Their meat section is pretty good and the butcher really helpful and attentive. I like their hamburger patties that are already seasoned. They also have produce and bacon from local farms, which I always buy. The location is convenient and they have a dedicated police officer, which tells me that they've had issues in the past (maybe with robberies?). The shoppers who come here can be a bit rude (I've been pushed out of the way a couple times), but it's nothing compared to the crazies in the commissary. I stop in here mostly to fill the gaps in my shopping list. read more

Used to shop here exclusivly and passed by two other grocery stores on the way. No more. My loyalty went out the window when i was treated rudely one too many times. If you go late, more often than not you will have to use the self checkout where the attending employees will act like you are the biggest pain in the ass because their items won't ring correctly or won't ring at all. Some of the people behind the meat counter seem to also consider you to be anything except a distraction if you ask for something special such as wrapping items separately or asking for a piece of meat that is not the closest one to them. They are experts a making faces. We find this to be entertaining now. At the register, they always ask if you found everything but if you say no and ask for something they don't try to find it or even offer to look for it for you. Its just an empty attempt that corporate requires to act like they care. Numerous times, I've had to listen to the cashiers complain about this or that and the asst mgrs in the front are frequently nasty to the cashiers. Wonder why they are in a bad mood? Duh. I used to spend about $200.00 a week here but now spend about $30.00 instead. The main problem with this store is probably poor mgmt. There was a time when this store would have easily earned 5 stars even before they built the new building. read more

this i a letteri wrote to the TH ppl. Harris Teeter Management, Before reading this, you should know that out of all the times I've received less then adequate service, this is the first time I've ever received service so bad that I felt the need to express my extreme dissatisfaction. I was a customer in your store on 05/4/08. I was appalled at the service I received when I was checking out! I spent almost a half hour selecting the finest of your exotic fruits. I took them to the checkout counter where they were subjected to what I can only describe as a full on assault. After watching the cashier handle these, then excellent fruits like canned goods, I got to watch the bagger toss (yes, literally toss) my fine fruit into a bag like so much garbage. The bagger then went to throw my bag in the cart. I finally asked her to hand me the bag, so my food could be spared any further abuse. As I was signing up for your vic card, three other baggers tried, and two succeeded in sliding my bag forcefully into the side of the checkout counter in a needless attempt to place my one grocery bag in a cart. In my frustration I forgot to give the cashier my coupon, thus costing me more for my purchase. It's not everyday I choose to spent $12 on a few pieces of fruit, and when I do I'd like it if they could make it home unscathed. As you can imagine, most of these fruits now have severe bruises and even puncture wounds. My fruit salad is ruined, and my time and money were wasted. I do not see a reason to give your ill-trained and uncaring staff a chance to let that happen again. read more
