One of my favorite places to shop! They have great prices. Their house brand is as good as any major name brand. With many interesting international style foods. Awesome fresh baked goods. Produce that rivals some farmers markets. And this is consistent across all the Lidl stores they are clean! Well organized, and if you like something. They have what I need. I have never seen the bathroom open for customers. It always has the block closed for cleaning. Must just be a big, giant COINCIDENCE! Uh I'm doubtful, to say the least. Yelpers, if you aren't shopping at Lidl, you're just not doing it right... Weekly deals, local produce, higher quality but at lower prices... the stock rotates, but the store layout doesn't change. It's designed to stay the same so that you're in and out in a flash. Super efficient. Lidl stores are popping up left right and center, slowly revolutionizing the way we shop, and you should welcome it! Did you know if you go online or download the app they have coupons to give you further discounts? No? I'm telling you, jump on that. You can get some great deals. In store, buy 5 donuts/cookies & get one free!? That'll probably set you back a mere $3... the bakery is where it's at! I've been shopping in Lidl over in Europe for years so I'm SO happy they're here in the US. Aldi is cheaper for 90% of the things. Lidl does win for some things though: wine, meat and chicken, and milk and ice cream. This is where you want to go for wine gifting or for stocking up for a BBQ. I'm personally not making this my weekly grocery store though. Free shopping cart usage. I shopped at Lidl for the first time a week or two ago and I insta-fell in love. It's got amazing prices and such a great variety of different types of foods. It's like a Trader Joes and Aldi mixed together. I especially love their little bakery section. Holy moly the chocolate chip cookies and maple pastries are so yummy!!! It's such a simple setup and everything is labeled. They offer everything a grocery store does and more. Huge wine selection and a bunch of different beers as well. read more

Upon a recommendation from a very wise and helpful friend, I tried this place out. From one visit I'm a big fan, though I'll need more data before really committing. There's a location nearer to me, but this one seems to be better. It's great for basics: bread milk etc. Where it really shines in in the random other helpful things. It's sort of a real life random item generator. I picked up a hedge trimmer from the clearance rack. What!? The real magic of this place seems to be the noticeably lower prices. They don't have much by way of name brands, but that's the point. Do you want quality items and food at a much more reasonable price? Try this place out. This was my first time shopping in a Lidl and I was highly impressed! They have just about anything for a great price (from your regular groceries to household items). Upon entering the store, you are met with the vegetable/fruit section and the bakery. My fiancé and I decided to stop by the bakery first. Everything is fresh and reasonably priced. I bought 3 donuts for .99 cents and a blueberry muffin for .67 cents (all of which were freshly made in store). They have a variety of breads and cookies as well. They were out of pineapples (darn!), but were receiving a shipment tonight for more. A lot of their products are organic and brands you don't see at a typical grocery store, so it was fun browsing for new things! Their beer and wine section was filled with many brands I had never heard of! You can see some of this in the pictures provided. Overall, great new place to have in the area! This new Lidl location is great! I really love what they are doing to the price for groceries everywhere around the area. Lidl is a new, different, and cheaper option in the area for groceries and other miscellaneous household items. The prices are noticeably cheaper and of great quality. They are not always your typical name brands, but those tend to have a higher price on them anyways. I like the diverse brand choices here. The beer section has obvious knock-offs. Some of them are even comically close to the real ones. They are generally $2-3 cheaper for literally almost the exact same product! I love it. The workers are friendly and helpful. I enjoy checking out what is new in their bakery section. They have amazing tasting donuts and pastries there. I often swing by to get my fiancé and I breakfast for the next day. Definitely recommend checking this place out! You can't get everything there like you could at WalMart, but you can get most of what you need. read more

Probably one of my new favorite grocery stores for all of the basics. Bread, milk, veggies, etc. the layout is wide and open so you're not on top of everyone like most stores. Employees are super helpful. Buyers beware, you have to bring your own shopping bags. Unfortunately we forgot ours (like always) but the bags are fairly cheap and they have cooler bags you can also buy. Definitely will be back! read more

This is a wonderful grocery store to shop in, but it's the Hotel California "You can check in anytime you like, but you can never leave!" They have 10 maybe 11 check out lanes and will only open one at a time. Walmart you are NOT! Walmarts philosophy is to slow you down at the checkout to fill your basket, Lidl is great at getting your basic FOODY needs and trying to get out. I go to this store on the regular and it's the same madness everyday. Today, Saturday it's 10:30 in the AM and there are 12 people in one line waiting to check out, remember they have over 10 checkout lanes only one is open SMH. This will not be tolerated in the USA, maybe Europe where they are from more Germany, but not here. I want my goods and I want to be gone within 5 minutes Fix it Lidl or I'm gone. read more

Okay Lidl, you've won my heart. After a few more visits, I got it. I fell in love. If not for their baked goods alone but their insanely good prices. They have different sales every week and most of them I just cannot pass up! Every single time I'm there there are plenty of people shopping so the registers do get backed up quite often so I suggest you bring patience with you. Their produce section is always fresh and you can bet you're being offered good prices. Fun place to shop! Alot of space in the aisles, which was really nice compared to other grocery stores. The bakery was rather extensive with alot of options as well as a machine to slice whole loaves of fresh bread. Prices were good, but the standout was 45 cent eggs, 25 cent Greek yogurt, 8.99 ribeyes. Nice wine and beer section as well. Love Lidl!! The bakery is awesome, and love the "simple" concept. You don't have to decide which of the 100 bottles of ketchup you need cause there's only two choices! Meat was fresh, and the wine selection was great, with awesome prices. Will 100% be the grocery store that I shop at for my family!! Make sure you bring some reusable bags or any bags with you, they don't give them to you without charging, and you also have to bag your own items... Overall. This place is really interesting. It feels very modern. Almost feels like an airport. Simple design and easy to walk. Those scary how Germans are so good at things. They probably under established how trifling Americans are, so all there stores will get a load of us. If you look up the history it is interesting and also they pay well. THE WORST! Went to the register with a whole lot of drinks advertised for .59 each. They even had a sign in front of the drinks that said .59 each. They rang up at .69 each. When I told the manager she said oh well she couldn't do anything about it. Wtf! Really?? Now given .10 cents isn't a lot of money but when you are buying a whole lot it ads up. I absolutely love this store. The cashiers and other workers were real friendly and everyone that I passed was very helpful and each one asked me if I found everything alright or if I needed help. The bakery smell as soon as you walk in was great too. I can't wait until the ones open near me in richmond too so I can save more money like I did today! I also enjoy working for this company too I will be working at a richmond store as soon as mine opens and all of the managers are helpful and actually want you to learn the material in order to give great service. This is a great store for low priced and fresh items. My first time going I spent 12 dollars on what would have 30-40 dollars at its competitors. One thing I wish they had was an area where I can get fresh meat wrapped to go instead of their freezer area. Also I wish there was an option to at least pay for bags. The lack of bags make you rethink how much you are willing to purchase from their store. I'm wondering is that the reason for their items being less expensive. So all in all if you just need a few things on the go and not looking for a long haul. I would try this store out. Or if you are someone who brings a reusable grocery bag. It's not bad, but it's so much less than I hoped! The bakery is good and there were some good sales posted, but it wasn't until I finished checking out that I realized I didn't get any of those special sale prices because I didn't have the right app (not that the cashier ever asked me or mentioned it.) The checkout lines were very long and slow, and despite having a double belt system, they checked everyone out down the same belt in the least convenient manner possible. I will probably go back sometime because some of the products were pretty good, but it's nothing to go out of my way for and it certainly won't replace Aldi. read more

Well I did my shopping in the store as I do every week sometimes twice a week at the store on Mercury boulevard in Hampton. I've been going to the store for over 3 years and it's my main grocery store that I shop at, as well as other members of my family. Well they have recently started advertising on their grocery store shelves app prices versus actual prices. This has caught a few customers such as myself off guard being that we were used to seeing actual prices on the shelves. Well once again tonight I fell for the okie doke for bathrobes they had on sale for $9.99. I asked two managers Terry and Lacey both told me I had to have the app on my phone in order to get the deals. Mind you I was at the checkout and the young man Isaiah had to call to the back to get this information for me. Being that he was the only one at checkout and was running before between self-checkout and a line of people I decided to run to the back to talk to the manager Lacey and Terry both at that time that I had to have the ON MY PHONE. I went back up to the front left the robe in the back and proceeded to check out without it the young man Isaiah came up to me and gave me a few suggestions asking me hey I know a lot of people don't like to keep the app on their phone because of data issues have you ever signed up for the app for well lo and behold guess what I didn't have to have the freaking app on my phone after all because when I gave Isaiah my phone number it popped in with the proper price discount. I walked to the back pick the robe up again and saw the manager Terry on the way back to the front and told him what I had discovered through the courteous young man Isaiah. Terry began over talking me and saying oh yeah you don't have to have the app on your phone after he had literally just told me that not 2 minutes previously. Not to mention he threw his arms up and smirked at me as if I should have known this by osmosis he was very rude. The young man Isaiah did an excellent job not only did he help me with this issue but he also taught me about the store sales how they work what leaflets to pick up and when the sales change nothing anyone had ever bothered to discuss or tell me before in all the years I've been going there. I loved it when it opened then during the holiday season the store was very dirty and unfriendly. Lately though the products are stocked and I find myself lidl loving again. 4 stars for affordability. I was attracted to the grocery prices but I did my research an their meat manufacturers. One of the poultry manufacturers they get their chicken from had a HORRIBLE rating and almost closed down. I refuse to feed my family food from here if I don't have to. Meat should not be questionable and should be processed in clean, approved facilities. When prices are too good to be true they usually are. Now they sell many other items which I will definitely shop for in here but just not food. read more

Store seems to be going downhill. They still have their basic bakery items donuts, muffins, croissants; but: I'm noticing their selection of bread (which you can slice) is waning. A lot of the bread they had in the beginning is gone now. So are the lower prices on those breads. I noticed today they're not even starting their own label diet soda anymore, for some reason. A lot of the items seem to be a little bit higher in price, so I'm not sure what's going on but seems to me they need to remember there's a lot of competition around there with Walmart and countless other grocery stores. It would be nice to see them go back to items they had when they first open that were obviously very popular and attracted customers. Went for the first time today and, WOW! The prices are excellent, produce is wonderful... very great prices on apples that look freshly picked from the orchard! Cut my normal grocery shopping cost significantly. Lots of great gluten free options (I have Celiac Disease so this is a huge bonus). The building is bright with wide aisles so not at all overwhelming... staff very friendly and helpful. Very happy that Lidl is in Hampton Roads! read more

The store is beautiful. The architecture, along with interior design and massive windows, gives the Lidl an open airy feeling. The walking into the entrance the air is filled with the delicious aroma fresh baked goods and the hustle and bustle of busy workers attempting to keep the shelves stocked as mobs of Grand Opening customers flood the isles. The prices are very fair with some extreme grand opening sales such as $.89 pineapple. I didn't shop today to gather a bunch of grocery items, but more or less to check out the new store and grab a few things here and there. What I found lacking here was the customer service of their employees. While shopping around I approached a middle aged women stocking shelves and I asked her where I would find coconut milk, her response was "I just know where coconut oil is" and she immediately put her head down and went back to stocking. Though there were what seemed like hundreds of employees, not one asked me if I was in need of any assistance. After finding my way back through the sea of people I got in one of the many long lines in the checkout. (Please know that I fully understood that there would be long lines at the grand opening of the first Lidl in the country) I wasn't bothered by the long lines, however I was bothered by the lack of intelligence of our cashier. She kept telling customers their total amount due without tax, and caused a bit of confusion by doing so. The customer in front of me was questioning "grand opening doorbuster" sale prices and the cashier seemed to have no idea what the correct prices of any of the items were. Finally the total of one of the orders was $2.14, the customer handed the cashier a $20 bill, the cashier somehow exited out of the transaction, had no idea how to figure out what the change due was, and had to call over a manager to figure it out the correct change. I will be returning to Lidl for their low priced grocery and pleasant atmosphere, but certainly not their customer service. Hopefully once the customer count slows down they will weed out some of their dead weight employees and the customer service will begin to improve. read more

My husband and I are both disabled and had a hard time bagging our own bags and no one bothered to even help us, not even our cashier. read more
