Consistently decent. Way better than the ghetto Safeway in Rosslyn. Has amazing free cookies for kids. They say "please take one" but I've taken up to six before and no one has ever said anything. I'll happily pay the Harris Teeter premium just to eat those delicious cookies. read more

I've just had it. Slow motion Mondays, dirty aisles, rancid produce. And virtually every time there are mismarked items. Usually it's for something that is "on special" and I wonder if the mismarking is just carelessness and ineptitude (at best) or a willful attempt to defraud the public by advertising a lower price, charging a higher on, and assuming that most people won't notice. I just called Harris Teeter and told them to delete my VIC card account. I'm done. I'd sooner shoot myself in the face than go back here. read more

I've been coming to this location for 5+ years. Some good, some bad. Parking lot isn't perfect, but I can learn to deal with it. Staff very unfriendly with the exception of one older lady, with white hair that can be seen throughout the store. She's very nice. Most of the rest of the staff I've encountered are very unfriendly, unhelpful etc. Sale items are fairly cheap, most of the time, but they tend not to stock the sale items when they run out. Some of the nonsale items however are quite expensive. Store is very clean, gotta give them that. Good selection of items. Usually when busy, you tend to run into quite a few inconsiderate customers, mostly a problem on Sunday afternoon. read more

I drive pretty out of my way to go to this Harris Teeter, even though there are two Safeways and one Giant closer to my girlfriend's house. The lines are only long if the store is actually crowded, in which case, they actually have all the lines open. A lot of stuff at Teeter is expensive, but if you check the weekly specials online and pick a meat thats on sale to base your meal around, you can get out of there for significantly cheaper than you would at an Arlington Safeway, which would be out of the meat that is on sale. My biggest gripe with the food selection is that they have a lot of space for international food, but it's all insanely overpriced - Thai curry pastes are probably 10 times the cost they'd be at an Asian grocery store. Harris Teeter's beer selection used to be better, but in the last couple years, they have pushed real microbrews out and replaced them with faux-microbrews like Shock Top and Blue Moon. Heineken and Corona, the two most overpriced beers on the planet, get an unbelievable amount of space, which pushes out even more decent beers. Additionally, they never put any microbrews on sale anymore. That was a lot of words for "If you want good beer, go to Whole Foods." The good news, however, is that there's always some macrobrew deal that's pretty decent. Once every couple months there's even a really good deal, like cases for 11.99 or 12-packs for 6.99. So if you're throwing a party for people that are too snobby to drink Natty, you're in luck here. Anyway, it's the best grocery store in this part of Arlington. Edit: I forgot to mention my biggest gripe with this store - The idiot customers that use self-checkout. They need to have a 15-item limit. I have no idea what drives people to think that they can self-checkout 34 different kinds of produce faster than a real checker in the first place, but the people that DO bring all that produce literally never understand how to figure out the code for the produce that they're buying, which makes the problem five times worse. Additionally, when the store gets crowded, they have no method in place to make it clear how to use the lines, and people will jump to the machines on the right when there are like 7 people lined up for them. I dunno if they're thinking "haha those suckers in line don't even SEE these machines" or they're thinking "haha those suckers in line aren't gonna call me out at a grocery store, I'm gonna cut in line," but either way, it's annoying. The point is, they're getting the work of 6 checkers done by machines, they could at least hire a second person to help make sure things are running smoothly. I love Harris Teeter! the produce is fresh as is the meat. The selection of wine on the 2nd floor is awesome and I love the good size drug store as well. I live next door and I like this place and not just because of proximity. There is a nice selection of meats and produce and also hard cider which I am a fan of. Although I hate club cards the Vic savings are pretty awesome. I was able to get a deal on a 3 PC patio set that was $115 off. I know who would think to buy that here! Oh, this store has turned into a hot mess. This store used to be oriented, customer welcoming, & helpful. Now, they've had a high change in staff, most of the staff is rude, lazy, & disrespectful. It's difficult to find someone to assist you, especially in the departments. Attitudes out of nowhere. I'm disgusted with this store now to the point that I've taken my business elsewhere. Karina, one of the recent managers is a rude & disrespectful person. Manager wise, go to Dave, Weymond, or Mary. They will take care of the issues. read more

Awesome store, less awesome checkout This store has a huge produce section that is significantly higher quality than the local competition. The meat section is good and their seafood counter is better than the rest as well. Wine selection is surprisingly large, and the beer selection is so large that it spills over to the second floor. The only downside is the checkout. I like to pretend I'm an amateur cook, and at least half my order is fresh veggies. More often than not, the staff really struggles with figuring out the right code. Some of it is on them for not being knowledgeable - but in fairness, they're left searching through an ancient cylinder contraption that doesn't even have all the right codes on it. I've been here more than a few times, and I'm still yet to see anyone figure out how to ring up yukon gold potatoes. Also - no conveyor belts feels weird. read more

This is a pretty solid grocery store: nice produce, a wide variety of choices in terms of dry goods, and prepared foods. I haven't had good experiences with their meat department (their meat just hasn't cooked up that well for me, but I guess the quality is reasonable in light of the prices). read more

I have just moved to Ashburn VA from Tampa FL. I was sadly disappointed with the local grocery chain, Harris Teeter. Everyone I know rants about how much they like it, but I do not see their appeal. It's not nearly as clean, nor carries as good a selection as the Publix or Sweet Bay stores in Tampa. They are so overpriced that their sales items are still more costly than the stores down in Florida. I know that this cannot be a regional thing - I bet going to all their stores I'd still find everything to be overpriced (except the milk - it was actually cheaper). Additionally, since I'm a diabetic, I'm a little overwhelmed with their lack of surgar-free products. Does northern Virginia just not give a damn about their health? Apparently the "rage" is to be glucen free. What a load of crock. read more

Customer service has gone way down in the ten + years I've been going to this store. The bakery and deli are poorly staffed. Seafood quality at seafood counter and produce are hit or miss. Good sushi and summer rolls. Very convenient that it's open 24 hours. read more

Aside from being open 24/7 this Harris Teeter doesn't have much else to offer. The prices are average, even with a VIC card. If it weren't for the closeness of it to my apartment I probably wouldn't shop here. Its multileveled which is a pain in the butt when you have to go upstairs to get shampoo or deodorant or wine and you have a kart. The aisles are usually crowded with restocking stuff (since they never close they pretty much stock whenever). Going on the weekend is a no-no unless you wanna be stuck in the store for a good extra hour. read more

Living in metro DC, I am seriously deprived of "regular" grocery stores. My choices are limited to overpriced and overrated stores like Safeway, giant (the especially crappy one on Wisconsin ave), whole paycheck, and Trader Joe's (which I do love, but have to take a bus to get there, and their produce is not enough for a frugal graduate student such as myself). After getting off at the courthouse metro stop, I was determined to find a regular grocery store like I am used to back home. A couple miles later, I ran into Harris Teeter. Maybe for people who live in VA/MD or have a car to drive to cheaper places, HT is not such a big deal, but I was a bit over excited upon walking in here. Tomatoes, zucchini, green peppers were 99 cents.. on the reduced rack, I found 3 huuuge haas avocados for 90 cents, 8 organic apples for a buck, 4 red peppers for a buck.. and all in good condition/not soggy or foul smelling. The store is also pretty big and there is an upstairs. I liked that it was clean, the employees were fairly friendly, tons of samples, lots of places to check out (including the option of self-checkout), good quality, and I did not find it to be expensive compared to what I am used to paying in my area. The bad part for me is the transportation, but I bought a lot of produce, olives, and some cleaning supplies for 12 bucks.. so I will return. read more

The store is not well-managed. You have to be on your guard not to get expired products. I just got a Benecol spread that did not taste well; it turned out to be expired a week ago. The temperature of their refrigerator did not seem right either: the yogurt was separated when I brought it home. Large watermelons were all plain rotten. I tried to return the spread but the wait and "paperwork" at the customer service that I just left. I would definitely go to Whole Foods instead! read more

Since this store opened in '99/00 I've shopped almost nowhere else, save an occasional run to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's for the few things "the Teet" didn't have -- though that was never much. Lately there's almost no need, as the store's finally evolved into the double-decker lovechild of Giant and Whole Foods and the only thing you can't find here is... tires? Pity the upstairs coffee bar never took off all those years ago (especially since this place is better than any bar if you want to meet people!), but I'm glad to see they're still all guns on the wine section. I'd have given this market five stars if not for two irks: Produce and grocery bagging are each a craps shoot; half the time produce spoils way too fast (pick carefully!), and you're better off bagging your own goods. Parking's only a problem at times and on days you'd expect it to be a problem. Otherwise, I've never seen a cleaner store, the prices (with their card of course) are as good as the next guy's, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the Teeter brand goods are great. A couple bonuses: The piped in music's good enough to dance to, and you'll never find a better cherry pie (dead serious about that one)! read more

The organic produce never looks good when I shop there, which is rarely now. The manager Mr. Wright just passes the blame - it's hard to get, the overnight stock guys didn't do a good job, "I haven't been by there since 8 or 9 this morning" (said at 6 p.m.). This is a recurring problem. They didn't even have frozen organic broccoli to substitute for the rubbery 'fresh' broccoli, sold for $3.99 a bunch. Pathetic. read more

My shopping experience yesterday, 8am. I head to the produce first and get banana's etc. I couldn't find oranges but oh well. Next to the deli/bakery. There was an employee with one of those big fork lifts moving boxes. I couldn't get to the muffins because he was blocking the aisle while flirting with the bakery employee. So I try to go around but the other side is blocked as well. Finally got through to the donuts, needed a dozen for a work breakfast on Friday. While I'm filling a box, the employee decides he needs a donut as well, so I have to wait for him to chose. He then heads to the employee door near the meat section.I get the rest of my items, filling up my shopping cart. Head to pay for everything and no one is at the checkout registers. So I roll down to the self checkout. It takes me awhile to go through the buying processes because you have to leave the items in the bagging area. I kept moving everything to the floor which sets off the "put your items in the bagging area" alarm. I was so frustrated with this experience that I won't shop there again. Too expensive, customer service not so good. I'll go elsewhere. read more

Last Night, November 17 at 8 pm I was shopping at this store. I have just moved to this area from Washington DC a while ago. My husband was shopping at other shop nearby. While I was looking at the cream for foot treatment ( I was one of the 2 girls on the aisle), there was a black American guy came toward me and he started talking to me. I didn't understand what he was saying and I didn't recognize him. It seems to me that he was on drugs or drunk, so I said to him maybe he could ask to other employee, I assumed he needs some info. Instead of leaving me, he kept talking to me and I was walking away from him since I knew something must be wrong. He was walking behind me and hit my left arm, I was surprised and ran to the front and screamed "help, somebody help me". I ran to the cashier and passed a pharmacists guy. Once I was in front (by the cashier and information) I placed my self behind a young staff with yellow jacket and asked him to help me. Near this staff, there were 3 other employee and I kept asking them to help me and call the police. Surprisingly, no one helped me, the guy with the yellow jacket even said "I am out of here" and walked away. So, I ran to other store to find my husband and asked him to call police. We walked back to Harris Teeter to report this to the manager, surprisingly again, the manager named TONYA, did not respond anything. I explained what happened and I mentioned that her staffs were there but no one helped, and she said "well our employee were not trained to handle this situation, this is not their jobs" - she kept saying it even after we all heard from the other staff that the stranger was trying to borrow scissor before approaching me. She said, "the police is outside if you want to talk to them" (and there were no police outside) So, definitely this store does not care about the customers, they were not well trained and the manager is very ignorant. I had bought a can of Lapreferida Mild cheese at the Falls Church Harris Teeter that had expired in June 2017, I returned the can of cheese to this store for an exchange. This store carries the same cheese in the Zesty version only, so I got a can and all was well. So here I am back at the store again 2 weeks later [10/27/17] and what do I see on the shelf? The same can of cheese that I had returned, how do I know you ask? This store only sales the Zesty version not the Mild and it had the same June 2017 expiration date. I have one more thing that I have noticed with the bag of yellow potatoes. When they are fresh there is an orange sticker with a date on it, but when the potatoes are getting old the sticker disappears and if you buy those potatoes they will be trying to sprout within a week. Also don't ask about anything they are out of because the normal answer will be "Oh it's discontinued" that's what I was told from the store manager about a special butter spread called Benecol, this store is still selling Benecol! read more

HT is the best conventional supermarket in the immediate area. Yeah, I'd rather go to Wegman's but it's just not practical on a regular basis. And yeah, Whole Foods' produce and prepared foods are superior, but you can't get Coke or effective dishwashing detergent or other common items at WF. HT blows Giant out of the water and is significantly better than area Safeway locations. I have to admit quality and freshness have lagged over the past 6 months or so. They are frequently out of items, especially those specialty items that are popular with the younger demographic which dominates this store's customer base. Greek yogurt, fresh herbs, boxed salad, Stacy's pita chips and other such items are frequently out of stock. You'd think management would notice what they run out of and stock more of it. Still, HT does a pretty good job and is by far the best grocery store in the area and the prices are reasonable. Even the meats are good, and are a good value compared to the ridiculous prices on comparable items at Whole Foods. read more

This store is fine but they could up their customer service. I called the bakery to ask about same-day sheet cakes; the woman grudgingly said yes they had them but didn't tell me that the ones they had were frozen (ie, no good for same-day use) - something I discovered only after I'd made the trip over there. Didn't really appreciate that. read more

Great pharmacy, good selection of produce and other products. Parking can be a little tough during peak hours, but otherwise no complaints.

I love this Harris Teeter. It's closed to work and I like their prices better than some of the other groceries.

New to the area we were excited to find a super market that is open 24/7 (we mostly shop early in the morning to avoid the crowds) We were not ready for the lack of help, when we went to check out we had to use the self checkout lane. Normally this is not a problem but when you have a cart full of groceries and no place to put the checked goods it is problematic at best. We tried to use our own shopping bags but the self checkout complained on every other scanned item; it couldn't work with our bag on the scale. So we had to call the attendant every third item. We gave up and just packed using their plastic bags! Hello! You sell the reusable bags but your system can't use them? We spent more time jerking around with the check out than we spent filling the cart. We were so frustrated that we almost just left the cart there and walked out. The take from this is: don't try to shop early if you have more than 10 items, don't expect the checkout software to run smoothly if you buy items (like produce) without bar codes (the veggie database is not in sync with the stock) and what ever you do, leave the reusable shopping bags at home, Harris Teeter doesn't do more than pay lip service to the environment. Recently, moved to Arlington. Initailly, enthusiastic to do shopping within walking-distance from home. Later, learned that the food is quality, expensive; however, overall shopping expeience is angsted and RUSHED fr parking to carting the isles. Shoppers need learn basic couresy; espcially when its crowded. Its somewhat more relaxed at GIANT, Washington Av, Arlington, VA, but that gets way too crowed as well. Now, I simply shop off hours, and vary my shopping pattern accordingly. read more
