It's fine. Wide selection of products, sub par staff. I usually do Trader Joes, then Harris Teeter for everything I couldn't get at TJ's.

So, this Harris Teeter is my to go to store for food and a lot of other stuff and I have always been pleased with the service and the products. Today I went to Teeters to to get a hair dye, because I just wanted to to dye my hair red. I'm a black women and I was looking for a hair dye that would work well with my hair( I have always bought my hair dye and makeup products at CVS). So to my surprise, I went to Harris Teeters and looked everywhere for a hair dye for people of color. They had ZERO products for people of color. I was so so so disappointed, because this is my to go to place. I also Checked out the makeup products, and nothing for darker people. I just want to suggest please be inclusive to everyone when it comes to your products. read more

I love Harris Teeter it's one of my go-to supermarkets. Too bad they don't have one in Richmond yet so any chance I get I have to stop in. This location was being worked on but the store was still neat. I was a little disappointed they didn't have the iced coffee I was looking for, but their wine selection was great! I found Verdi (a wine that is hard to find) and I love how they section off the wines based on countries and types. I wanted to highly recommend the Floral department at this Harris Teeter due to Katerine, the florist who assisted me. I came in to purchase some flowers for my wedding anniversary and I requested her assistance. In the midst of all her work, she made me a beautiful arrangement within minutes. The Glebe Road Harris Teeter is actually a fine grocery store, but, unfortunately, its designated early-morning shopping hours for senior citizens are a complete sham. On Monday and Thursday mornings, there are always plenty of shoppers roaming around who are obviously in their 20s and 30s, some of whom aren't even wearing masks. (This morning, a young dude apparently in his 20s with a dark-blue official ACFD t-shirt didn't even put on a mask until he got to checkout.) If you're a senior and you're concerned about your health and safety, head over to the Whole Foods in Clarendon instead, where they take senior citizen shopping hours seriously and check shoppers at the entrance for ID and masks. It's quite a bit more expensive--but shopping there is much less risky. read more

This Harris Teeter is usually a frustrating experience. The aisles are too small for carts AND other people - there are often pallets of product in the aisles taking up space. Although they have a lot of checkout lanes, most are closed since they introduced self-checkout. And there is not enough room for people waiting in line to checkout. The layout really needs an update. But they have $5 rotisserie chicken two days a week (Sunday and Wednesday) - prices for other products are not that great, so if Trader Joe's would start selling them, I wouldn't need to come here at all! read more

I've loved Harris Teeter since I lived in North Carolina. When I moved close to the Glebe Road location, I was excited until I drove there during a busy time. That parking lot is a total design flaw. Who in their right mind puts the parking in the rear where you have get by the foot traffic? So, why 4 stars? Good produce, lots of variety, nice wine selection, and they are terrific at getting you through the check-out quickly. In a recent and hurried visit, I walked out with getting my "cash back." The cashier and I were talking about the price of grapes. When I went back two hours later, they were expecting me and the cashier - who was off duty - came over to apologize. Nice. read more

Very disappointed by the customer service from the self-checkout attendant and the customer service attendant, which left me speechless. Today I went to purchase a few times, including some that were in the recent weekly special. After scanning all items and entering my eVic account, I noticed that one item from the weekly special was not showing the full discount. I even clicked "pay" to make sure the discount would not show up after processing all items. The discount did not come up so I then notified the self-checkout attendant and pointed the error. The attendant, instead of verifying my information and the weekly special, quickly assumed that I was wrong and pressed that the item was not on sale. I then pointed her attention to the weekly special and the dates. She again dismissed my comments by suggesting that I must not be an eVic member and not eligible for the discount. I pointed out the email I received with the weekly special and that other items showed an eVic discount. Confused and with no other excuses nor and interest in helping, she called on the customer service rep. I have to note that this whole exchange is so uncharacteristic of Harris teeters in the dc region. In any other Harris teeter, the self check lane person would have been able to verify the discount and make the necessary adjustments in the screen to honor the price. In ballston, though, the attendant claimed she couldn't do anything and I had to speak to customer service. Finally, the customer service rep came and barely acknowledge my presence. I tried to explain but she quickly jumped to void the item and renter. However, before the transaction was complete, she ran away, saying nothing to me, and left me hanging. I was then forced to rescan the item and pay the regular price as no one was capable or interested in helping. Again, so uncharacteristic of a Harris teeter. These individuals must not be trained on common sense solutions and customer service. read more

The store is really nice and I didn't have to wait in line on a Sunday; however the meat appears to be incredibly overpriced. Chicken breasts, the cheapest part of the chicken, was $4.99/lb! Usually chicken breasts are $1.99/lb. read more

Buyer beware -- special on blueberries for card holders -- not so fast you Harris Teeter card holders -- you had to sign up online for an e-vic account or you pay a higher price. Now there's TWO CLASSES of Harris Teeter card holders. The sign advertising the blueberries had it's yellow headline covered up so the only mention of "e-vic" was in fine print -- with no explanation of what e-vic was! It was totally deceptive not to explain the new deal for us disrespected Harris Teeter hardholders. Oof! Where do I begin? It's a grocery store. They have products, they have decent prices, those are all expected and they do that OK. So the negatives: - THEIR PRODUCE IS CRAP. I've had bananas go moldy while still yellow. Have you ever seen mold spots on a banana? Crazy. Every other produce item I've ever gotten also tends to go bad far more quickly than at other grocers in the area. Possibly related to the location of the store? Inside the beltway, trucks are somewhat restricted on getting to it. This is my biggest issue with the store, and it's a pretty huge one. - The store layout results in an absolute clusterf%ck. You *will* experience a traffic jam. This may just be a result of the whole lot being too small for the amount of customers they receive. - The parking lot is too small. You could circle around for a while to find a spot OR just park illegally like most. - Cheese prices (I eat a lot of nice cheese) seem absurd. - Wine selection is good, but the section is no longer in any sort of order. - The entrance isn't well thought out. You may wait for several stoplights to actually be able to make the turn in. They have a stop sign and speedbumps that slow folks down, which result in a line forming all the way to the street. Tip: Ride your bike instead. They have parking around the side with the kitchen vent. Avoid the hassle of the undersized parking lot. One odd note: I've never seen a kid in this store! This is a fantastic full service grocery store in what has become a very urban and developing part of Arlington. I go several times a week and can walk from my home. They do a great job offering what they do in a smaller space than is typical for an HT in the suburbs. read more

I like Harris Teeter even though it's over priced, but this location is awful. It's a grocery store crammed into too small a space. The produce section is a nightmare with crates and boxes all over the place. If you go there at a high peak time, prepare to punch people in the face for a parking spot. I have only been here a few times and my biggest compliment is that they are very convenient. They have a good parking lot I am in and out in like 10-15 minutes. They are also very accessible, almost everywhere you park is only a few yards from the door. read more

If you dread going to the mall at Christmas, avoid this store at all costs. Sure, if you had free reign of the store, it would be great. Lots of good food, good meats, and check out is surprisingly quick. If you make the mistake at going during a rushhour time, it might make you go Incredible Hulk on people. The parking lot is a nightmare and the parking spots are striped too narrow for an average sized car. The carts are so wide that it makes it a close call when passing other people in regular aisles, but all bets are off in the produce section. The produce wasn't as good as I expected. I almost gave it 2 stars, but I figure if I went during quieter hours or broke in at night, I might go as high as 4 stars. read more

I love Harris teeter, I really do. But compared to other HT's in the area that I've been to, I just found this one so confusing. I wanted a yogurt smoothie, the Stoneyfield ones. But could not find it. It was not with the yogurts or with the juices, or with the dairies. I finally gave up and left with my sweet tea and 2 yogurts. At least there's a parking lot. read more

Wow, I hate shopping at the Teeter (unless it's like 11pm and I'm running in for wine, which they do have a good selection of)...The parking lot is a circus-like mess, the people at the deli counter are sloppy, SLOW, never slice things the way you ask (THINLY sliced swiss cheese... is that really so hard?) and then they give you your meat or cheese in a sloppy little ball in a bag filled with air. To top it off they bag your groceries in the most haphazard, retarded way. On more that one occasion I have brought home a broken container or ricotta cheese or yogurt. read more

harris's teeter is a level above a giant but below a whole foods. it has some good selections and specials vary by week. the breads are unique and they have a daily sandwich special. the sushi is good, though a bit on the expensive side. The salad bar is average at best but much better than giant. they have a redbox for dvd movies and a coinstar for those annoying loose coins that can be traded in for amny gift cards How to improve: 1. get a decent salad bar 2. don't think its cool to charge me 6.99 for strawberries 3. keep the specials where I can see them 4. why can't the sushi guy make some nice japanese udon soups and serve to the customers just like the deli makes sandwiches. go to a new york deli and see how they multitask. I'm serious, the parking situation is out-of-control, with people parking illegally and even double parking. Otherwise, this store is pretty good in terms of price and selection. The pharmacy never has the rather standard prescriptions I need in stock... and they make a robot call you to tell you that and tell you they've taken the liberty of ordering it instead of a real person who can give you options. If you are trying to call the pharmacy, good luck, because if you reach them when they aren't closed for lunch, it is still a monumental test of patience to wait on hold until someone will finally answer the phone. In fact, I'm assuming someone will answer the phone, but I've been on hold for 15 minutes now and no one has answered yet... read more

This is dedicated to the pharmacy. Worst customer service ever. I have never hung w/ someone and been so angry that I was shaking. I was astounded by how rudely I was treated by the pharmacy staff and how argumentative they were. And the arguments did not even make sense. After leaving a message, the lovely staff member called me back and said without even identifying herself or where she was from "First of all, I need your name." I told her I gave my name in the VM, she apparently did not hear it. Then she proceeded to read my rx off to me and then scolded me telling me that this information needs to be in the VM. I told her that information was in the VM, how else would she have known what to read to me?? All she could do was act like a 5 year old and say "No it wasn't". Either the staff is hard of hearing and can't understand the messages, or they're just plain stupid. Regardless, I will never give this pharmacy my business again. We don't have a Harris Teeter where I live. I have visited this place several times in the past and have always been satisfied with the quality of the food products especially fresh produce, seafood or meats. I would rate this on a par with Whole Foods, Wegmans, Fairway Market or Kings. read more

So when you first walk into this store you ate greeted by the bright, vibrant colors of the produce department. All the produce seemed so fresh, the meat looked awesome! Also their sushi department looked mouth watering, not sketchy at all. I even walked by the deli and a manager was yelling over the counter to another employee asking him to do something and when he said yes the manager responded graciously, he thanked him for being so flexible and reliable. I was like wow how cool they take care of their people. However, the only wrinkle was my cashier. When I got there she asked me if I had found everything I was looking for, I told her that they had a very small selection of stuff to decorate Christmas cookies. She told me to go to customer service, I asked her why she asked. Then she copped an attitude with me. I told her to put my groceries on the counter not in the cart and she didn't listen. STAY CLEAR FROM THE MEAT DEPARTMENT, until it has been thoroughly inspected by the sanitation department!!!!! My fiance, recipe in hand, walked over to Harris Teeter for a hunk of london broil. He carefully scanned the packages, dates, and weights, and opted for a beautifully marbled, bright red specimen. How incredibly horrifying, as he proceeded to slice the beef for stroganoff, to find the "tell tale" of brinning ring of green centered by pink, and the foul smell of spoiled flesh. He huffed back to Harris Teeter and presented the evidence to a number of shocked managers, who gave him back double refund. However, it leaves us wondering HOW MANY PEOPLE either wind up cooking the beef, how many packages from the same cut were in the case, and how many are actually consumed. This is downright criminal and uncalled for. So please, PLEASE stay clear of their meat department, call the local press, and stand by until its been cleared. It is a sanitation and safety risk to the consumer. read more

Nice store with reasonable prices. Can get the normal brands here which the Whole Foods and especially Trader Joes do not carry. There is a large selection of fresh fish and it is way more affordable than Whole Foods. On any average day, it is consistently busy, but not too crowded. read more

I'm bumping this down to 3 stars because their produce and bakery sections don't have large selections. Also, their produce is so dirty, like literally full of dirt. I don't buy pre-cut and bagged lettuce, so while I realize I have to wash the head of lettuce that I purchase, I should not have to scrub and soak every single leaf front and back for 30+ seconds to get all the dirt and bugs (dead and alive) that might be hanging out in there. I've found fruit flies and even a ladybug in my lettuce. Once, while I was selecting some bananas, a customer knocked down a head of lettuce and didn't pick it up. It rolled to a stock clerk's feet about 5 feet away. He simply picked up the lettuce and chucked it back up onto the display. Now, that's just nasty. read more

I was excited by the recent expanded organic selection, but was not excited about the huge cockroach I found in my organic red leaf lettuce. Wonder if the cockroach was organic too... In any case, if it was an insect that's naturally found in that kind of produce then I could get over it, but cockroaches are found in filth and carry diseases and I am 100% certain that it was a roach. That was an instant turn off for me and I will not be returning to this location. Their produce was never great to begin with and had an extremely short shelf life - especially the vegetables which in many instances were already bad despite being a week or two from the expiration date. They do have a decent wine and beer selection so I MAY return, but why support a business that can't keep its produce fresh or clean? read more

Harris Teeter makes grocery shopping bearable. The stores are well-organized and well-staffed. The store nearest me is open 24 hours a day. It has a great beer selection. Prices are pretty fair. The fresh foods selections are good and well-priced. The sushi is tolerable. The deli sandwiches are good as well. I'm trying to transition into using Peapod but in the meantime HT is just fine. read more

I grocery shop here, very often. The most unique thing that you can buy here - id the easy peel oranges. They're the best oranges in town, hands down. If you shop here, make it a point to signup for their free VIC card, you will save a lot! I am truly not sure who shops at this store and finds it to be amazing. First of all I agree with so many other reviewers that the prices are just as high or higher than Whole Foods. Hello fresh mozzarella for $10 certain pasta sauces for $15, I am really not sure who buys that. Taken together those two ingredients alone, you could go out to eat. Anyways, if you like to be bombarded with selection then this is the place. I give it two stars for the serve and the parking lot. I went in the evening and had no problem with parking nor crowds. The employees were extremely nice and even cracked a few jokes at how stupid it was that the teets does not have conveyor belts, just circular things. In terms of food quality, the produce looked pretty fresh, but the meats left something to be desired, I spent $12 on three chicken breasts, (yeah, I didn't feel very good about it, but needed a little protein in my life), and I ate one the next day and it tasted a little funny and then the next day when I went to make fajitas, the other two were smelling terribly. The package date said they were supposed to be good for another week. So that was incredibly disgusting and a waste of money, and it isn't like I am going to take this rotten chicken back in the store and make a scene or even carry it around in public. It stinks! Overall, I think the prices are unreasonable. Fresh mozzarella the little balls in water were over $10. I can get it for under $4 at trader joe's and even for $6 at the farmer's market. So there is something really strange about their pricing. Also, you need that teets VIC card or else. I like to spend money on good food, but this is exorbitant. word to the wise, don't bother here unless you need a few things that you cannot find elsewhere. read more
