Craft beer!

Incredible spot for craft beer. The selection is very impressive. Definitely pricy but really great items! Highly recommended if in the area and looking for craft beer.

Great liquor store in Penrose neighborhood with abundant selection of beer. I was looking for some saison, and the owner was pretty knowledgable and able to recommend me some good ones. Will definitely visit this store again next time I'm in the 'hood.

I disagree that prices at K-1 Beer and Wine are higher than at a grocery, ABC, or specialty liquor store. After all, the last time I was at a grocery store (in this case a Harris Teeter), it is almost impossible to buy a decent six-pack of beer for anything less than $11-$12! And by decent I am referring to the non-mass produced Miller/Coors/Budweiser stuff, although those beers have their place also. K-1 is an unusual mix of mini-post office (yup, I've mailed parcels from there), purveyor of every conceivable lottery game (yup, I've purchased multi-million dollar PowerBall Tickets), and semi-convenience store (yup, I've purchased cheese and charcuterie items here also). But of course people come for the excellent beer selection. Yeah, there are fairly good wine choices toward the left-hand side of the store, but K-1 has one of the more extensive beer menus which is impressive for such a small space. And a small space it is. Walk in and maneuver around the crowds of the people on the right buying lottery tickets and amble about the narrow aisles and refrigerated cases with rows and rows of beer. And they have all the greatest hits of specialty beers: * Delirium beer * All of my favorite Bell's Brewery, especially the Bell's Two-Hearted Ale * Lagunitas * Great Lakes Brewing * Brooklyn Brewery * Allagash And the list goes on and on. But I've been stopping by quite a bit since K-1 is the ONLY place I've found in the DMV that carries Buffalo Bill's Orange Blossom Cream Ale (https://www.facebook.com/BuffaloBillsBrewery). I had my first taste of Buffalo Bill's on a business trip to California about 3 years ago, since this Hayward, CA brewery isn't yet a national presence. Cream Ales, are brewed as an ale though are sometimes finished with a lager yeast or lager beer mixed in. Lower hop contents make Cream ales less bitter, which is a nice change for me since I still love me a good IPA. The Orange Blossom is the perfect summer time brew. The beer pours with a slightly copper head, low foam, with a very citrusy aroma. The orange flavor is not too pronounced, but has a crisp finish. Excellent with summer time grilling or just relaxing with friends in the evening. If you've been looking for a hard to find craft beer, try K-1. Tip: Parking in front of the store is kind of a pain, so go around back since there is a small lot behind the strip mall.

One of the best craft brew selections in town at competitive prices. Now, filling growlers! Friendly owners who have worked in the neighborhood a long time.

Ask the Community - K-1 Beer And Wine

Is this just beer and wine or do they sell spirits/ liquor as well?

Only beer and wine. Virginia sells distilled spirits at their state stores only.

And yes they offer the same pizza as they did before, sometimes pizza that's been sitting there since 7:30am which is part of the reason why I rarely come for their pizza. Their slurpees are the best though, and I'm pretty much a fan of the coca cola slurpee. I noticed a lot of kids doing the same thing on this free slurpee day. This store in particular has always been chill, and I've never experienced rudeness or any other issues that sometimes are a problem at their other stores. It is what it is, and maybe I will try to sneak over here before midnight for one more slurpee, or probably not.

What I like about this location is that they have a greater variety of prepared foods compared to other stores. What irks the hell out of me is that they do not carry the 7-11 brand of spring water. They only have 1 single brand which is called Serafina, and it tastes horrible. I stopped in today and was forced to buy the water that I don't like, and some cookies. The cookie pack comes with two cookies, and they are usually labeled with a specific flavor like chocolate chip for example. The cookie packs that they having display have no label at all to inform the Customer of the cookie type or flavor. I asked the Clerk behind the counter what it was and he said 'sanerdanel'. I was like what? Is that even a flavor or was this guy playing with me?

7-Eleven - This drink is actually good. The irony is I bought it at a 7-Eleven frequented by day laborers.

Look I was born and raised in New Jersey so I'm not new to Wawa but they have been raising their profile since I left in 2005. They now enjoy a weird celebrity status that seems like too much for a convenience store but Jersey folks love it and now people in an ever expanding group of states are learning to be unreasonably in love with it too. Ok so they got all your standard convenience store needs and also an expansive food menu, so that's 5/5. This food overall is generally pretty tasty (4/5), as far as one can reasonably expect from a glorified gas station. So all respect there I really appreciate this place for ejat it can snd does do (it could be horrific, have you seen the stuff 7-Eleven claims is safe for human consumption???) But the sandwich engineering is where they stump me: 3/5 The beauty and brilliance of a sandwich or sub is that you layer the ingredients and then get a little bit of everything when you bite into one. Unfortunately Wawa follows the same engineering that the Satan incarnate itself Subway has somehow popularized: throw sh*t in sideways and to hell with the very point of a sandwich at all. Let's review my Thanksgiving Sub case law: 1. Treat the hinge of the sub roll as the bottom of the sandwich for some good awful reason. No one on earth, not even Trump and Epstein have done anything so bad to make the rest of humanity deserve this. In this case they put the serviceable cranberry sauce down there in the crook of the bread. 2. Now that their sociopath store policies have established that your sub is oriented in a v shape instead of sideways like a sane rational human would do, they smush in the stuffing. Tasty enough stuffing though. 3. Now comes the turkey. It's convenience store turkey, so it probably tastes as good or bad as you're thinking it does depending on your personal life choices. So let's review: we have a v shape roll of bread with cranberry at the bottom, stuffing in the middle and turkey just barely inside the top of bread V. -this is bad enough because once you turn it sideways to eat it, because it's a sub and you're not an alien whose never heard of this food vehicle before, you have to choose left or right bites of either turkey and stuffing or stuffing and cranberries thus ruining the entire point of a sandwich - 4. Now the ultimate tragedy of this sandwich tomfoolery: they ladle a bunch of gravy on top of this unholy V, which is brimming with turkey out past the edges of the bread. Said gravy (which like the turkey tastes as good or bad as you think of will) is just spilling over all the sides of the roll. It's not in the sandwich. They have somehow turned my normal sub into some kind of au jus situation where you don't duo it they just pre douse the sandwich for you. What a mess! A tasty mess. But not even an inexpensive mess in exchange for your troubles! This joker cost me about $13! Why don't i just go to a proper sandwich place for that price? In conclusion if you want a standard convenience store I absolutely recommend Wawa. If you want a sandwich that's pretty good but maybe has self esteem issues, I absolutely recommend Wawa. If you just walked into one by accident and decided to look it up on Yelp, I can put your fears to rest and confidently say yes you should stay there and get what roll ups or nicotine pouches you came for. Also their coffee is pretty solid in terms of convenience store coffee which I generally love even though I also love $5 lattes with an $8 pastry.

Some food was on my mind, but after walking into the nice clean store, I was stopped by the smell of hotdogs. A very popular item sold here long before the other types of hot foods were sold at 7 Eleven. This was before 7 Eleven had it's own brand drinks or foods. Anyhow, the quarter pound hotdog (non-spicy) is what I went for. I saw the tongs used for grabbing hot foods but did not touch them. After seeing how dirty the bind where the tongs go at another 7 Eleven, I could not use those tongs. I saw no disposable gloves to use, so I finally asked for some napkins from the cashier. Grabbing only the hotdog I wanted after setting up the hotdog bun and its holder, the hotdog was perfect. Adding onions to the hotdog came to mind, but I saw this area was heavily used. Maybe next time. I like this store, but the parking space is very limited. It was no surprise I saw a panhandlers waiting outside for just the right person to ask for something. It happen once I walked outside, the store. The panhandle asked someone for something and he must have gotten it, because he vanished right after getting it. Nevertheless, I will be back to this store and area. I saw some other places I would like to visit.
