My husband and I have gotten take out from here several times. The food is always good. There are several reasons why I didn't give them 4 or 5 stars. 1. The portion sizes are quite small 2. The price is ridiculous especially for such small portion sizes 3. Their prices online are not what they charge you. On several occasions I've noticed that they charge .50 to $1 more than what the prices list on their website Updating this to two stars as last night my husband went to pick up our food order which I had called in and they had lost our order. I don't know if it just never made it back to the kitchen or they had given it to someone else but my husband has to put in a new order and then sit and wait an additional 20 minutes to get the food. Very little apology was made and as someone that works in the food industry you should not only apologize but either comp part of the order or give the customer something extra to make up for he mistake. I ordered thinking the food would be ready and waiting for my husband to pick up on the way home from work and instead it was a huge mixup and not ok. I really wanted to like this place for the obvious amount of effort they made to create a sustainable Dim Sum eatery (with many vegetarian options!), but it is hard for me to rationalize a few basic things that I experienced during my dining experience a few weeks ago. 1. The floors were very sticky. In an otherwise spotless (and gorgeous!) dining room, why would you allow your floors to remain sticky?? :( 2. Lack of garnish and depth of flavors. With most Dim Sum places, many dishes have a bit of greens or other tasty sauces mixed into their dishes. I understand that it is tough to find/make sustainable versions of some staple Chinese condiments, but they could have at least added some green onions to add dimension to their flavors. For example, the specialty beef dish was very tender and well cooked. However, it really only tasted like high quality beef cooked with Korean marinade. There was no fresh or organic accompaniment to liven up the dish. I did actually ask for some green onion, and it made a world of difference. The dim sum here was otherwise okay. Again, they really emphasized their sourcing of sustainable seafood and meat, but their har gao and xiu mai tasted mostly of protein. I really wished they utilized their spices and vegetables here more! read more

I had been meaning to try this place since we moved to Marin from SF in search of a good, local Chinese restaurant. After having lunch today, it became very apparent that I need to keep searching. I get that compared to SF, finding Chinese is going to most likely fall very very short but this was just awful. We ordered a number of things: hot and sour soup, egg-rolls, onion rings (should have questioned this menu item to begin with but thought what the heck... Maybe something unique), Mongolian beef, honey Walnut prawns, chow mein, and fried rice. All pretty basic stuff, right?! Let me tell you that every single dish had ZERO flavor! It was so bland and flavorless we all got nervous that we had covid (LOL) ... Which we don't! You know it's bad, when you're trying to put soy sauce on everything just to taste SOMETHING! The egg-rolls and onion rings were so greasy, they were soggy. And to top it off... It was way overpriced! Lunch for the 3 of us was $122 (before tip)! Mother-daughter double date took us to Harmony Restaurant in Strawberry for dim sum that was yum yum. My favorite was the battered eggplant (pictured whole and cut open), but I also really liked the pork buns, the shumai, spring rolls, gyoza, and the shrimp fried rice. The only thing we had that was mediocre was the beef triangles - the flank steak was tender, but it lacked flavor. We enjoyed the selection of four dipping sauces - hot mustard, sweet, chili, and soy. The jasmine green tea was nice, but pricey - almost $8 for a small pot. The dim sum was $5-7 per plate. Our total was $60 plus tip, so a bit steep for small portions, but because 14 year-old girls (we were celebrating their birthdays) aren't big eaters and are picky, we had plenty. And the quality of ingredients made it worth it. It was rather bustling, what with it being a rainy Saturday, so were grateful for a relatively quiet corner table. I stopped by for a quick lunch takeout. The serving consisted of rice, chicken, broccoli, an egg roll and a pot sticker. It came out to $17.95 with tax. I pressed to sign, and somehow it came out to $21.98 for ONE LUNCH special. Wow. Later I looked closer and noticed they snuck in a huge tip for a takeout! Let me repeat, people, $21.98 for one takeout lunch serving. Good to know. The food was nothing to write home about. Bland and greasy. There aren't that many good Chinese restaurants in Southern Marin, so in that mindset, this place isn't too bad and probably the only good option. (I normally head over the bridge to Inner Richmond for Chinese food) That's probably why there was one night I tried to come here with my family of 4 and there was an over an hour wait! So this is mostly a review of their take-out window. Overall, this is a better version of Panda Express in their To-Go fast pick-up area. My kids love the noodles, green beans and beef. However, their pot stickers are kinda too monstrously huge. Maybe it's a suburb thing? It makes the meat inside too dry if you have to cook it for so long. And kids won't eat it. I really avoid writing negative reviews, but as a long time Mill Valley resident who has enjoyed Harmony for years, I feel compelled to share my reflections after several very mediocre experiences with Harmony take-out (not their prepared fast-food take out that literally hasn't changed in years) in the past several months. I know restaurants struggle to make a profit, but Harmony is making choices -- at least in their take out business -- that are an affront to their customers. First, their portions have become ridiculously small, not fractionally smaller. Their spring rolls have almost zero ingredients; you have to look hard through layers of fried wrapper to find ANYTHING in there. Their soup -- the large order -- doesn't have enough for 1 1/2 average-size bowls. And when they include sauces, they are teeny, tiny containers that are half filled. To top it off, their prices are way out of line with the food or the quantities. I KNOW Harmony knows all of this; these HAVE to be strategic decisions (looking for more first time customers vs repeat customers?). I don't see how this model will work out for them. read more

Lots of vegetarian and organic choices...rarely found in a Chinese restaurant even in San Francisco. My family enjoyed the namesake chicken dish, all of the dim sum, the green beans and organic tofu. My son enjoyed the grilled salmon. I looked at the reviews from before and those who aren't happy are mainly finding food that is cheaper or more authentic. As a Chinese American, I actually like their food, it is hard to find Chinese food with high quality ingredients, organic and vegetarian choices. I am willing to pay more for that. read more

Come with my hasband and we got the: Bbq pork buns 3/5 Classic siu mai 5/5 Beef triangle pocket 4/5 Brussel sprout potsticker 3/5 Pheonix Prawns 5/5 Peking duck 5/5 Jasmine tea We came around 5:30 and were seated right away. The vibe was good and you can see into the kitchen which is always nice. The server was excellent and attentive and the food came out so fresh and hot! I was hesitant to dine at Harmony because the reviews were not that great, but I decided to give it a go regardless. Turns out it was a very disappointing experience. I ordered the Leek & Corn dumpling in addition to the Mushroom shaped Chicken dumpling. They were extremely chewy and super bland. I also had the fried wontons stuffed Avocado and cream cheese...the waiter recommended them, and so I took a chance. They were awful! Lastly came the Chinese Chicken Salad which I was really hoping and thinking this would at least be traditional and make up for the other dishes. Low and behold the CCS was the worst I had ever had!!! No tangy dressing, but a soggy plate of shredded lettuce with a mustard dressing that gave it dry powdery consistency!!! I told the waiter how disappointing the salad was just after he came back to check on how it was. I was surprised he didn't offer to substitute it, or take it off the bill?!?! Last, but not least he brought over a handheld device to have me pay my bill, and stood there watching over whether or not he would get a tip!! I kindly reminded him that the feedback on tipping nowadays while a server is standing over you or in front of patrons is very disconcerting, yet he literally didn't have a clue as to what I was conveying . Don't waste your money on this mediocre at best restaurant! Go to In n Out right down the street instead, which is where I went directly after the bad experience at Harmony! read more

$60 for just dim sum for 3 people. Flavors were ok, portions were small, will not return. Sadly it does not appear that Marin County has a good spot for dim sum. I would not advise people to eat here, even if they had the money, because the food was unimpressive. If you have the time, try Good Luck Dim Sum or Good Mong Kok in SF, both are amazing restaurants that could feed a family of 4 for like $25. read more

This restaurant is so good Ive ate here for years since they opened and always tastes so good. I love the Harmony chicken and Im someone who usually isn't a big fan of chicken. They also have dim sum which is pretty good, and the takeout section where you can pick things in the case. Super friendly owner and staff also and a nice ambiance when dining in. I live in the East Bay now but crave Harmony's all the time and I still get it when I come to Mill Valley! read more

I had an exceptional experience here - Fine Dining Modern Cantonese food- it changed my few of Cantonese food which I have generally viewed as greasy cornstarch covered stir frys. The one and two star reviews are trying to compare this to your average Cantonese restaurant - no comparison. If you want cheap food then go to Panda Express. This is a fine dining experience - the ambiance is soothing with beautiful light fixtures and bamboo tables with substantial wood chairs. Located in Strawberry Village, they must have some overhead to pay for. To me, the food justified the price you pay. The creativity of the dishes and freshness of the ingredients were well executed. The flavors were balanced and delicate at times. There was no overpowering of one ingredient or cheap sauces. Everything is made in house. The skill of the chefs is obvious. The Organic Tofu takes time to prepare and it was very creative and tasty and was complemented by the house sauces. I liked their fresh, modern take on the dim sum. Not greasy - which is one of my complaints of traditional dim sum. I had the Vegetarian Dumpling, Pea Shoot Dumpling, Lotus Leaf Rice - vege. The flavors were delicate and not overpowering. Again the sauces pairing well with the dishes. The Harmony Signature Beef was tender and flavorful - I like how it was marinated - not greasy. The asparagus festival stir fry was well done and balanced in flavors. Chive and Mushroom Vegetarian thin egg noodles were very flavorful and tasty and not greasy. I opted for the Chrysanthemum tea as I didn't want anything with caffeine in it. Loved the lightness of the tea. There no harsh black tea flavors. This tea complemented the dishes as well. There are many options for vegetarians/vegans. I was very impressed with their modern interpretation of classic Cantonese dishes. I highly recommend you try this place if you are vegetarian/vegan or want Cantonese food that is notches above traditional Cantonese restaurants. if you are expecting to have cheap Chinese food then go somewhere else. The service was excellent. I had no issues. Both greeter and server were friendly and attentive. Chow mien was alright but very upset with this chicken. The chicken tasted slimy and gooey. Not sure what was inside the chicken but it was some sort of mush with little to no chicken. I do not recommend the orange peel chicken, the mango and broccoli were fine but as far as the actual chicken, it was beyond poor. read more

Last night we tried Harmony Restaurant. My husband & I ordered: onion rings, Harmony fried rice, crisp skin chicken and mushu chicken; which was plenty of food for leftovers. The onion rings, topped with garlic, chili peppers and garlic were amazing and not greasy. The rice was light with subtle flavors. The mushu was wonderful; the pancakes/flour wraps were so light that they almost evaporated, the fresh spinach and wood ear mushrooms brought the dish to another level. The chicken was delightful. Chinese food is not one of my favorite cuisines but since my husband enjoys it, I sometimes give in; I was happy that I did and discovered Harmony. Harmony's menu is imaginative and thoughtful. The hostess was friendly, informative and appreciative. The staff is in the process of getting vaccinated and looking forward to reopening. read more

I want to give this place more stars due to the good food quality however I was very unimpressed with the service. I came here for my sisters birthday on Tuesday evening and we were seated quickly, however disregarded most of the time. Once we placed our order, they brought out our items one at a time and took 10-15 minute breaks in between. When receiving a small appetizer, you'd think that they'd want to continue bringing the other items so guests weren't just sitting around and starving, but they felt like this was the right thing to do. The gaps in between were very unnecessary and anytime someone needed to refill their drink or request something it was impossible to get someone to come by to the table. Although that was unpleasant, the food quality was most definitely not bad. My brother ordered family style for the table and everything I tried was very tasty. It's good to note that the portions are very small compared to your typical Chinese restaurant. In addition, the prices are on the more experience side, so don't be caught off guard. Based on what I took pictures of: 1. Supreme Shanghai Dumplings 2. Imperial Pot Stickers 3. Harvest Spring Rolls 4. Organic Tofu 5. Harmony Signature Beef 6. Harmony Signature Chicken 7. The main bites were slightly bigger but still not as big as you'd imagine them to be for the price. The restaurant was not empty for a weeknight because there aren't many Chinese restaurants around that area. This place is not at the top of my list, but it's a good one to keep in mind in case I'll be craving some Chinese takeout in the future. read more

After several years I thought I would give Harmony another try. Visiting the area again and just came from the airport, I thought I would get a late lunch (actually an early dinner as I am still on east coast time). When I entered the restaurant no one was present to greet and seat, but in a few minutes I was greeted. I asked for a table for one, and was told to wait a minute and he walked away. I was soon greeted by some else and started over. I was led to a 2 top at the window. When I went to sit, I noticed live flies on the window, sill and table. This should have been my queue to leave, but I didn't. I motioned to the server that sat me and pointed out the flies. He stated that he saw that and that he had the door open. If you noticed it, why seat me there! Anyhow, there were plenty of tables so I moved away from the window. I was thinking about getting the free style dim sum as I had previously, but there were no prices on the individual items, online a note that prices ranged from 5 - 12 dollars. I instead ordered the Shanghai Dumplings, $8.50 for 3, pasty and bland, and chow fun, which was $18 for a small somewhat greasy dish, that was marginal at best. Tea was another $3 and was fine. Too much money for too little food. Owner/manager claimed the shrimp dumplings always have flour, even at other chinese eateries, but that is not true. I've been allergic all my life to gluten and I know the frozen ones do have flour but not the authentic ones. Good service, menu lacking in vegetarian and gluten free options I had hoped for. Our vegan friend raved of this place. No free wifi, booths and chairs are your seating choices in this place located inside a strip mall. Disappointing. Came on a Saturday with the family and the experience was below par. Our server seamed scattered between taking our order, the table next to us and serving the family behind. Food is good quality but not a good value. We ordered Singapore pan fried noodles with an assortment of vegetables only to be served a side plate of chow mien with green onions. Cost $14, no exaggeration, it was something served in malls back in the 90's. Her response? sorry, next time we get you crispy noodles. In summary, If you serve dim sum, serve it correctly and in the traditional manner with proper service. Especially when the menu is overpriced. This has been my go to place for a quick take-out meal for several years now. I live 2 minutes away. Over time the prices have risen and are outrageous at this point. $35 recently for three small boxes - and I mean small - of take-out - and the boxes weren't full. What ever happened to overstuffed Chinese food take-out boxes? Their signature chicken is good but is now 12.95 for a quarter pound...so that means the chicken is 52. a pound. What!!? They also are heavy handed when filling the boxes even if you ask for a certain amount. I can't justify going back at this point. They will continue to lose business if they don't reconsider their high prices. Disappointing. read more
