    Ube pastry

A few content creators suggested to check out this Filipino bakery. I'm so glad I tried it out. I purchased half of dozen of the cheese malunggay pandesal ($4.25), hopia ube (3 for $3.50) and two cheese rolls ($6.00). Everything is delicious and affordable! I can't wait to try more things, especially because the staff are so kind. Highly recommend. Tip: The parking lot is very small and crowded. Park on the local inner streets and walk in to avoid traffic.

Hmmm so we had higher hopes for this random Filipino bakery we came across . It was good to try but the baked goods were a bit lacking. We bought the coconut twist which was just alright . My bf liked it but it was too oily and sweet for me ! We also bought the ube rolls which was vibrant purple and looked amazing but the flavour was a bit lacking and the texture was a bit on the mushier side . Still recommend everyone to try this place at least once . It's a family run business and they do accept credit card ! We would likely give some of the other items a try if we are in the area as Filipino bakeries are on the rarer side for us :)

Harina bake shop is a small bakery along Wilson Avenue, close to Bathurst. They sell a number of Filipino breads including pandesal, ube pandesal, monay, Spanish bread, pan de coco, ensaymada, as well as other pies and cakes like buko pie and sans rival. The bread is baked fresh in-house daily. The dozen plain pandesal ($3.50) that I ordered was given to me in a paper bag, still warm from the oven (so good!). It had a slightly firmer exterior than Baker's Best, and was less sweet and dense, which I really enjoyed. Hubby and I really enjoyed their pan de coco. The bread was soft, with lots of fresh grated coconut. We both really appreciated that it was sizeable and not too sweet. The ube pandesal is not ube filled and did not have an ube flavour as I would have hoped. A dozen pre-packaged ube pandesal came to $3.50. We also purchased the ube bars, which were not as moist and lacked the more prominent ube flavour as I would have expected. They were coated in a generous amount of coconut, and the flavour overall was good. They limit the number of people in the store to three customers at a time . Prices are very reasonable. This establishment has been around for several years, which is a good sign that it has withstood the test of time. Will definitely be back for their fresh baked plain pandesal, pan de coco, and to try some other specialty breads.

My favourite though, has to be the classic, butter croissant. I picked up a strawberry short cake for a family dinner, and oh my gosh, it was so yummy. The cake was made out of layers of chiffon cake (super light and airy) and a delicious whipped cream with strawberries pieces nestled between the layers. I've only done take out there, but they do have a small area with seating, including space outdoors for warmer months. The service is good, staff are friendly and efficient. Even if there's a line, you're not really waiting that long. The location is easy to get to from Finch Station, but if you're traveling by car, parking may be a bit tough to find, though there is street parking and a paid lot a couple blocks further north by the TTC lot.

The space is not big but there some limited seating. The display cases are at the far end of the store and if there is a lineup it will be hard to see what is available unless you get closer to the cash area and if this is your first time here and don't know what is available it might take a bit to decide. The coveted Dubai Chewy cookie sits next to the cash area. You can get a box of 4 or singles. We got a box of 4, with tax....just over 27 bucks. Was it worth it? I would say YES! The coating was soft and chewy with a generous amount of filling with the kataifi giving a nice crunch. This is definitely a treat.

You have to get through to nearly 45% of the bun to get to the custard. I think I'm used to the better value that you can get at bakeries in less central locations.

We stopped by a couple times while in Toronto and while we were impressed initially, realized there were much better elsewhere. I nabbed the last pineapple bun with butter since it seemed highly coveted, as well as a normal pineapple bun. The pineapple bun has great flavor but tended to be a little dry. The butter helped a lot, but the bun without butter lacked the moisture - although maybe it was because we didn't buy it fresh in the morning? The trend with the pineapple bun does seem to be that the bread itself is a little dry but the ones with fillings, such as chasiu or butter, gives it the moisture it needs. The egg tarts were standard. Not bad but nothing special - and not something I would come back for. I also got a wife pastry that was not very good. Price wise, it's definitely a little steep. But it may be worth to not having to drive in poor weather to get to Markham or Richmond Hill. I do recommend coming in the morning while the pastries and buns are still fresh - it does seem to be better during the day versus at night.
