To say the least it's a real Dog Day summer today almost melted on my way to Harbor Freight . I went to harbor freight looking for a specific tool (that weird security screw for window guards). I was greeted by the nice people that worked there by the door I didn't realize how distraught I looked because of the heat, Chaka immediately noticed and delivered absolutely perfect customer service as soon as I walked in. She and another cashier guided me to what I needed at a reasonable price at that. As rang me up she gave me a bit of wisdom and I was able to accomplish my goals today. It's a LONG journey to this store if you don't have a car or feel comfortable with as much subway travel. Getting here was an adventure. It also feels like stock here is more limited or I showed up at a time when stuff I wanted wasn't in stock but the cashier who rang up my purchase was very nice. It also felt good to know I could get to this store on my own and get back safely, as my travel in the Bronx has been extremely limited. If I had my way about it, I'd probably just go to a Long Island location but it's nice to know this location exists and I'm not limited to only buying online if I want some cheap but quality ceramic knives. read more

CHEAP TOOLS! Harbor Freight just throws me back to the days when I was a kid rummaging around some of the discount stores in downtown Manhattan with my dad looking for odd or unique hardware. Do we really need that thingamabobber or whatchamacallit? But it's only $1.99! Ok, we'll have a use for it someday and your mother won't notice another tool bulging out of the tool box. The stuff at HF is not top quality but is amazingly affordable and gets the job done for the most part. For nice tools that I would pass down to my son, I'll get Sears Craftsman, but if I just need something to toss around on the job, the Harbor fits the bill. I've played with some of their power tools and you can feel that the tolerances aren't as tight as the big name brands. The drill press I was looking to get had a loose play in the wheel. For a home workshop, it'll probably do alright in outfitting your man-cave. Big tip: You never, ever pay the full shelf price. There is ALWAYS a coupon for just about everything at one time or another. If it's not on sale, there is usually a general 20% off coupon in your sales circulars or print them on-line. Plus the coupons always have at least 1 free giveaway, like an LED flashlight, voltmeter or mini-screwdriver set. Home defense, backyard jungle or just cool to have strapped to your leg? While I generally like Harbor Freight this store has the least helpful group of arrogant personnel possible. Don't expect any help and hopefully you'll get a cashier who can process your transaction in 15 minutes. Bottom line find another store to patronize. read more

I purchased an air compressor there this morning and it did not work. Brought it back to location for exchange and it couldn't have been easier. Staff were solid professionals and helpful. Store has good selection and i will be shopping here more often. read more

They're supposed to carry battery meters here, but I never see any.

The staff here are super friendly. I love going there bc they seem eager to help you and treat you like a human being unlike the box stores. This place is much more affordable and always has sales. Now, these are not the highest end tools but sometimes you can't afford those and frankly, you do not always need them. read more

I'm so happy that HFT has finally made it to the BX! The store is pretty spacious (used to be an R&S Strauss Auto location) and the staff is helpful and friendly. Very friendly staff, one of the cashiers even came up to me while I was shopping to make sure that I wasn't looking at the wrong sale circular. They offer the same great deals that are available online, so now I get great prices and I don't have to wait for my goods to arrive. read more

Not only are the prices low but they also have coupons. I do wish they had one person working the floor for assistance. Every time I have popped in, the only staff I see are the cashiers. Great place for some things that don't need to be super high quality. I recently declined to get an oscillating tool here (which was less than $40 but I paid $100 for a name brand at Home Depot) but did get a small drill press - hey, it was less than $50 because it was on sale AND I used a 20% off coupon. So, if it's something I'm going to rely on, I'll not buy it here. But drill bits, tape, cheap brushes, sandpaper, etc. Still lots to spend your money on! Glad it's here! read more

The store rocks! The tools are reasonably priced, and won't break the bank. Friendly & Cooperative Staff, Decent Selection of Tools; Majority of items are always in-stock (Fresh Stock). Management is committed to customer satisfaction. Best experience at any retail store thus far. They have very low prices compared to Home Depot. It's fun to find something unexpected like a flashlight/butane lighter combo. Their 20% coupon for one item is great. The only drawback is they don't have many locations. read more

Great place to buy tools great variety and quality. Checking out of there at the cash register's is a nightmare. Not enough help and not enough know how to push through customer questions and demands. This store needs an overhaul in checkout procedures at the cash registers. Perhaps a change in management can fix these problems. read more
