Meanwhile, on the mechanics job that never ends... we spent most of the day yesterday trying to buy a welding torch to remove a ball bearing from a Toyota Sienna. Never in my life thought I'd know someone who could possibly weld, but life is weird. Jeremy has an ever growing love affair with Harbor Freight, so we visited the location in Glen Burnie, near good old David's Bridal (don't get me started on the horrors of that store). Thing is, Harbor Frieght doesn't sell the cannisters of gas necessary to fuel the torch. We bought a small welding kit anyway, hoping to find the cannister we needed at Home Depot. That was a bust, so we ended up returning to Harbor Freight to get our money back... But the story doesn't end there! After finally finding a welding kit and getting a tank filled at Robert's Oxygen, we returned to the job to discover that we needed some kind of hammer thing that requires an air compressor to run... so back to Harbor Freight We found an air compressor on sale and helpful signage reminded us that we also needed a hose and some fittings. We took our purchases out front to make sure we had everything we needed, returned to the job to find that, for reasons that suggests the universe hates us, one of the fittings would not lock in place. At that point, it was after 8pm and the store had closed, so we threw up our hands and went home for the night. Jeremy ended up going to the dundalk location early this morning to get the quick fit piece he needed and we are back on the job in pasadena. Fingers crossed he can get this axel off, cuz he's been working this job for a week now and I'm pretty sure any money he was going to make has all been spent on tools at Harbor Freight. read more

How do you rate a tool store? Well, I have been to a lot of Harbor Freight tool stores and this one is first, the cleanest. Second, has the best supply of goods. Lastly, the customer service is super friendly and helpful. The price of the tools for a common person that is going to use a certain wrench a couple of times is very good. I love their tool boxes, well built and comparable to some of the big name brands. This is my go-to store for everything from duct tape to hex wrenches. I ordered the "20 OZ. Professional HTE Compliant Gravity Feed Air Spray Gun" and called the nearest location for a recommendation. I am using it to paint motorcycle fairings and tanks. Is this sprayer okay for primer and base coat, or just clear coat? I called Glen Burnie HF to ask but they weren't knowledgeable on their product/too busy/hung up on me. We have been to the store several times. We've gone there looking for equipment for the car, tools, and today we were looking for a log splitter. We found the perfect sized splitter for our needs and it was very affordable. When we were checking out, the cashier suggested an extended warranty, but he was not pushy at all. I appreciated that. So much so that I actually took him up on his offer. It's one thing to have a pushy sales person try and force you to buy something you do not need, but it's another when they are just friendly and helpful but not pushy at all. Whether you were looking for something for your garage, a portable generator, handtools, or any other host of items, there's a good chance he will find it here. The staff is very friendly and super helpful. They brought the very heavy piece of equipment out and loaded it in our car for us. If you have never been to a harbor freight store, check out their website and get a feel for what they sell. Came here with hubby so that he could purchase a grinder....what the heck is that? Anywho, we came here in search of this and other tools. Upon entering, the smell of plastic and "tools" let me know right away this was a testosterone fueled, every man's store that was the equivalent of me shopping in a makeup superstore and hubby tagging along unwillingly. I get it now. Harbor Freight Tools was well laid out with aisles of tools, tool parts and any other tool or mechanical related tool item you could name. I tried to make the best of my time here by perused the endless selections of various items, but I knew this was no place for me. I have to admit they have a variety of items to suit a handy DIYer or skilled professional. They mailed a circular book to our home and just as I would peel through the pages of a clothing, lingerie, or makeup circular and highlight the items that I would eventually buy, hubby did the same with their mailing circular. Checkout was a breeze and the sales associates were well versed in everything tool related and pleasant. read more

The prices here are ridiculously low. An electric hand orbital sander was $8. Cordless drill was $14.99 All their tools are very inexpensive. They have many stores all over the country. High potential of getting stuck with junk but so far everything I have bought has worked. They also have a random assortment of household items. For example I found an all glass chess set (pieces and frosted glass board) for $5. So if you are the type that likes to wander around Home Depot to look at all the interesting things to buy.....you will go nuts here. read more

This store is like a mini version of Home depot. I find great deals on tools for my craft room. I normally go to the one in Parkville, but this one is near my job and I was able to walk and find what I needed. Customer service was ok. I did ask where something was and directions were sub par to say the least. Was not guided to the area just pointed to and told where. Now I see why my manager tells us to show customers where things are. read more

I love Harbor Freight and their super-coupons! These aren't high dollar brand-name tools, but they are more than good enough for the typically do-it yourself and priced well for the quality that they are. The most recent trip was to get a soda blaster and supplies for it, but as usual, we wound up with more than we went for as a result of good sales on consumables like nitrite gloves and shop towels. Started coming here recently for house stuff and its a very different hardware store then I'm use to. I like it, so many strange things but really cool. I was very unimpressed with my latest visit to this location. Fonzi the cashier was very rude to me from the start of my transaction and gave me a hard time doing a warranty exchange on a tool marked "lifetime warranty". Milton the manager wasn't very helpful either, but he at least got me out of the filthy store in a timely fashion. Customer service could use great improvement; I would recommend future shoppers carry their business to Lowe's down the street. read more

Way cheaper than Home Depot when it comes to hand tools. If you are Do-it-Yourself 'er this is a must stop to find cheap alternatives to Home Depot and Lowes tools. They have pretty much everything you need here. If you subscribe to any of the local papers, look for their coupons. No matter what state or city you are in when visiting a Harbor Freight, you will always find a good deal and friendly service. Prices are great at harbor freight. Picked up some wrenches and other tools and have had no issues at all.

A great alternative to Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, and other brand name tool stores. Stay away from power tools (only carry 30 day warranty) and items you plan on using a lot. Hand tools are usually a great deal, especially with the lifetime warranty. I recently broke a ratchet that I'd had for at least 2 years. They allowed me to exchange it without any questions. I love coming here they sell tools and things that places like Home Depot or Loews don't sell. Harbor Freight always have good deals and coupons for you, they sell boxes of rubber gloves which is good if you are trying to clean or is a hair stylist. So when you go there make sure you are ready to spend alot of money for a bunch of things. I went and got tools that at Home Depot would have costed me over $80 dollars only costed about $50 total. read more

Prices are amazing but customer service is not. I won't be going to the glen burnie one. I was walking in circles trying to find stuff and after a while was wondering if they even had staff on the floor to help; saw many of the floor staff just hanging out talking and no one even batted an eye or even greeted me or offered to help. I signed up for the club and that ended up being embarrassing. The guy working as the cashier kept mumbling and talking fast that I had to repeatedly ask him to repeat his question. And of course he was giving me an irritable look like I'm at fault for not hearing him. read more
