There have been two occasions when I've been really grateful for Belle's being within walking distance of my house. One was during a kitchen faucet install; the new faucet's water lines were too short to reach the supply valves. The other was in the middle of a yard clean-up project that created a lot more brush and yard waste than I thought it would (and exhausted my supply of yard bags). A short walk to Belle's in both situations and I was back to work. The prices at Belle's are a bit higher than what you'll find at Home Depot or Lowes, but for me the extra cost is offset by the close proximity and helpfulness of the staff. There's something nice about walking into a hardware store where the aisles are narrow and are stacked floor to ceiling with products personally chosen by the owners after years of serving the neighborhood. For bigger projects, obviously, Lowes or HD will be a better deal and will give you more options in terms of various types of tools, hardware and other products, but as a local hardware store, Belle's really hits the spot. read more

I am always wandering into this place with weird questions like, "How do I make a two-tier plant stand with only this window ledge and my wits?" or "What can we spray 3D printed objects with to make them food safe?" One time I carried in a piece of furniture in case they needed to see it to give me advice. (They didn't, and I felt silly.) The staff there consistently field my questions with way more patience and expertise than I've seen in any establishment in Baltimore, and they only sometimes laugh at me. They are somehow always in a good mood, and have what I'm looking for about 90% of the time, which is astonishing considering it's such a small operation. read more

My bulb broke the other day, so I needed a replacement quick! Luckily's Belle's hardware was close to campus. I called beforehand to make sure they had the bulb I needed and that they took credit. To my pleasure, both were a green light. I went down there and went in, straight to the light bulb section. Within minutes, a woman asked me if I needed help. I told her which bulb I was looking for and bam she found it less than 3 mins. I went to the register, to ring up my purchase. The cashiers were very charming and friendly. I really love independent places like these vs. your big heartless chain stores. Perhaps I'll be back when I need things for my projects. read more

Whenever I need anything for repairs in my home, I always call Belle Hardware first. The usually have everything I need at a really good price and all the staff is incredibly friendly. Every time I call or visit, they are extremely polite with helping me find what I need. They also give advice on how to take care of a job with full confidence that I am able to pull it off. As a woman, a lot of hardware stores tend to assume I have no place there. I can walk in to Belle Hardware and be respected and seen with as much ability as anyone else. Wow- the other yelp reviews really hit the nail on the head with Belle Hardware. This unassuming shop had some of the friendliest staff I have encountered in any store ever. It's easy to give a high review to a store that is in the back of your house and the staff knows your name. But, once again, they have made my family very happy. We decided to paint the house, and my boyfriend (who just moved in the neighborhood) had a horrible customer experience at Home Depot. I suggested he check out Belle Hardware, and just as I had thought, he had a great time chatting with all the employees, found the paint he needs, and all at a better price than he expected! read more

This is the perfect neighborhood hardware store. The staff is very knowledgable and take the time to help you get what you need and answer any questions you have. Surprisingly good selection for the size of the store. Prices are a bit higher than Home Depot but if you value your time and/or service it's a better value for small-ish purchases. read more

The staff at Belle Paint & Hardware were beyond helpful. I went in there needing some help getting a rusted license plate off my car and when it didn't work I called back. They had me come in and helped me get it off with a smile on their face. I even tried to tip the gentleman who helped and he would not accept it. Its so hard to find good customer service these days and I"m happy that Belle Paint & Hardware is right around the corner the next time I need them. read more

The staff at Belle Hardware have the patience of saints. I approach all my DIY projects with oodles of completely unfounded confidence, considering the long track record of disaster trailing behind me. Like that time I thought I'd just carefully switch the plain slab of mirror in my rental out for a 1930s Art Deco medicine cabinet. As it happens, that mirror was adhered to the wall with such gumption, it could have survived an earthquake, fire, the second coming of Christ. But Belle Hardware was just down the street with their wood shims, piano wire, and pry bars, until that mirror insisted in only coming down in about 5 billion fragmented pieces, and then they were there with their joint compound and scrapers, because it took some of the wall with it too. They've sprayed WD-40 on an old pocket knife, without making me buy the can, fixed a jammed power drill, managed to dislodge a stripped screw out of my laptop...When I bite off more than I can chew (i.e., every DIY project ever), I go to Belle Hardware. It's not just that their three isles are packed with surprisingly more than you'd think, but that they're people who are truly dedicated to servicing the community, lending their advice and a hand. If I can buy it at Belle Hardware, I'll buy it there above anywhere else. It's an absolute gem to have, in a neighborhood that lacks much of a retail presence. read more
