This is a great stop for a quick bite. Oceanside Village is home to many sit-down seafood restaurants. Harbor Fish & Chips offers good seafood fast and at a price affordable for families. It's family owned and has been operating here for over 50 years. They have indoor and outdoor seating (with a beautiful view of the Harbor). The menu is simple and consists of baskets of fish or shrimp and chips, fish tacos, sandwiches, soups, and salads. It's a great place for families. I love coming here because the food is good and you can feel the cool breeze from the ocean as you eat. They have some cool fishing memorabilia that showcases Oceanside's rich history. They also have a variety of mounted fish on the walls and ceiling. The giant replica jaw of a Megalodon shark in the dining area makes for fun photos. read more

My experience has been going down and down each time I return to this place which I'll never do again. - I witnessed cooks with sleeveless shirts on. Armpit hair out over food.. - order taker was rude when we had a misunderstanding about seasoning said calm down to me bc I wanted clarification - when my order was called I walk up to an old lady and the order taker talking over my food and pointing. We went on a Tuesday, and had the Special, which was 2 pieces of fish and 1 side of either fries , salad or coleslaw and a drink, we also had the Clam Chowder. This place is legit. I looked online to find the Closest place to me that had clam strips and journey let me hear. This is a pretty standard fish and chips place you'd find most everywhere, and they hit the nail right on the head. My wife and I wanted to get out and take a nice walk, and decided that Oceanside Harbor would be a breezy and cool place during the heatwave. Walking stimulates the appetite, and we found ourselves among the small restaurants and shops at the harbor. Harbor, seagulls, barking seals = Fish & Chips. Anything else would be inappropriate. Our entrees were the One Filet Basket ($9.50), which is plenty enough for lunch. My basket consisted of a large filet, lightly battered, and not at all greasy, despite being too hot to eat immediately. The side of french fries was both tender and tasty, and salted just right -- A large portion to match the filet which stretched to both ends of the basket. Two large condiment containers were included, ketchup and tartar sauce, which was spiced up nicely. My wife ordered cole slaw, again a substantial portion, which she enjoyed. A third option would be beans, according to the menu. The food rates Five Stars, no question. One star off for the lack of available hand sanitizer and a few lax pandemic safeguards. I asked for hand sanitzer, but the counter help gestured at a shelf by the entry door which held the spray disinfectant used on hard surfaces-- and no paper towels, just filthy rag. No hand sanitizer for customers. Physical distancing inside the tiny Order/Pickup space is virtually impossible, and only the customers seemed to be trying to enforce it. All visible employees were masked, as were customers. That said, dozens of uncovered ketchup and mayo containers were sitting on a prep shelf at waist level, just begging to be contaminated. No inside seating, customers must take their chances with the outside tables, which always seem occupied. The owner of this business needs to get a lot more serious about pandemic safeguards. ​ read more

While enjoying the harbor beach, we got two Captains platters/plates to go. Two huge pieces of fish plus two good-sized shrimp plus a side - one of us got the fries and the other the coleslaw and we split them. I love malt vinegar on my fish and chips so that is how I enjoyed them. The coleslaw was okay. The cocktail sauce was fine. I didn't try the tartar sauce myself because malt vinegar is perfect. I would order it again. All of it was delicious - even after getting stuck in traffic and eating it back at the hotel. I would definitely come back. read more

The young man at the counter was so egregiously unpleasant, sighing and rolling his eyes at customers' as they tried to figure out the menu overhead. Mmmaybe try to help them? Maybe say hello? They messed up our order and mistook our addition of an extra coleslaw as "coleslaw on the side" which meant one of the four platters was missing the included side that came with it. When we went back to the counter to ask nicely if we could have the fries, showing our receipt, the blonde girl behind the counter instead insisted the mistake was right, not fully understanding the order - flat out refusing to help. Nice. I will say, the blonde kid who takes out the trash at the end of the night was the one shining star - super polite and friendly. Actually knows what it means to be in customer service. I understand it's not an easy job - despite its popularity, my guess is most people don't tip 20% (we did) as it is more or less self-service. But gee whiz, take a beeath and stop painting each diner with such a negative, combative brush. This was our pit stop when we drove from Los Angeles to San Diego. I bookmarked several eats along pacific coast highway on Yelp but I wanted something very casual and affordable with a water view. Harbor Fish & Chips had all that! Let's talk about the location first. It's located at Ocean Side Harbor which has spectacular water views and there's plenty of free parking. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy. There are several wooden booths inside and picnic style tables outside. As far as food, we all ordered the fish and chips of course. I got the sampler which included one fish, one shrimp, coleslaw, fries and cup of clam chowder all for $15. It was definitely more than enough food for one person. Just the size of the battered fish was enough to share, which was by the way, delicious! Fish was fresh, moist and the batter was perfectly crisp and not too greasy. The chowder was also piping hot and thick, just the way I like my chowders. I actually tasted real chunks of clam. This seafood restaurant is a must stop for travelers driving on PCH. Also had an issue with my drinks we got unsweetened iced tea n Decided to get something else because the iced tea tasted like old , I mentioned it to one of the employees and he didn't believe until he tasted it, he said they were going to put a new iced tea but they never did. Reviews here are solid. Great semi-quick spot to pick up your favorite fried ocean delicacies. Waited about 10 mins for a satisfying and tasty lunch while seeing my family disembark from their fishing trip. Decent interior but rather no-frills. Got the Captain's plate with 2 fish filets and two shrimp along with a side of fries. The best thing was that they offered LARGE plastic cups for the side sauces (tartar sauce, ketchup, and cocktail sauce) and lemons, salt, pepper and malt vinegar packets. All of my favorites at the small accoutrement bar. Servings were above average and the breading to seafood ratio was near perfect. All was cooked to order and piping hot. Best were the airy and delicate shrimp which were are a perfect balance of coating and soft succulent meat. Fish was good not great but still hit the spot as being flaky and well cooked. Chips/fries were just slightly above average but still fresh and made better by the sauces. Service by the young man with the dark hair and the young lady with dark hair calling orders was friendly. Wow another great meal at Harbor fish and chips. During this weird time. We took a walk at the harbor and had lunch. I had a two piece with fries, shrimp and slaw. She had a one piece and a taco. We shared some Clams as well. The fish was perfectly dipped and prepared. And the tartar sauce was a perfect condiment to the fish. I was given two shrimp as well and with the cocktail sauce was an excellent addition to the fish. My only comment would be that the fillet was thin but was very long. The slaw was hand prepared fresh and crispy. The taco was made from the same fish and was crispy, large, and very yummy. The clams were frozen and a little over cooked, but definitely not the reason we came. Due to the pandemic there was no seating but there is plenty of picnic tables and benches along the Harbor walk. They lose a starr for cleanliness and the cheeseburger is not that great. However the fish and shrimp is amazing. Definitely worth the month. The size of the fish is huge. One thing I have loved since childhood is great Fish & Chips. I grew up with a local favorite that closed years ago. H Salt... Ever since then, I've only found a few great places for that crave that hits just the right spot. One was in Canada in Winnipeg and another local business in San Diego. That being Mr. Fish & Chips who has been in business over 40 years. Now this place I'm writing about has taken my new #1 spot. I highly recommend this place as it has the best tasting Fish & Chips. After a day of walking all over the city and sailing around the harbor, it was time for lunch and we were famished! My Uncle recommended Harbor Fish & Chips right at the dock we disembarked from, and my hubs and I were so pleasantly surprised!! The fish portions were enormous!! The batter was incredibly flavorful, and the fish was cooked perfectly. It was tender and moist without being too oily. You really tasted the freshness of the fish, which was likely caught that morning. My hub's clam strips were so good that all of us helped ourselves into his stash and had to get him another order! The fried zucchini was quartered and fried beautifully. Doused in ranch, it was the perfect pair to the fish and clams. This was not in the least bit healthy, but after walking about 6 miles that day, I think we more than deserved that fried extravaganza!! We had to follow it up with a few days of salads, but it was still worth it!! If you find yourself in Oceanside by the South Harbor, please stop by and give this place a try.
