Decided to check this place out as we were walking around downtown. It's much bigger than it looks from the outside! There were a ton of goodies to see inside, and they have a really wide array of items to choose from so definitely something for everyone. I like how you can see them making things in the back room too. There was a long line but it moved quickly. We decided to try a few different things. The milk chocolate maple leaf was fantastic! Our favorite from what we tried, it had a strong maple taste. The cayenne pepper one had some mild heat and was okay. We had some kind of pistachio marzipan one that was also great and one of our top choices. I'm not sure if I would come back as we have another favorite chocolate shop closer to where we live, but I'm glad we tried a few things out from here and I would recommend! read more

I liked this place a lot. We're big sweets people but we all like different things. There was a big selection and everyone was able to find what they liked. It's small and busy so a little cramped inside. CRAZY. AWESOME. CHOCOLATE. I used to work for a chocolatier. I love good chocolate. This is the best that I have ever tasted! It is pricey, and since I am a local, I cannot go there in the summer, so I buy for Christmas. I get the Grande Sampler box for a few of my awesome clients as presents year after year. I mixed it up one year and got gift baskets and actually got emails and calls, "Why no chocolate this year?" I won't make that mistake again! Their chocolate dipped fruit is amazing, they have sugar plums in the winter, fruit jellies, and just an amazing array of fine quality chocolates. They expanded into the store next to them a while back and also added a gallery so you can see them making the candy. I have had nothing but terrific service (but I do go in the winter which is very quiet). If you cannot find parking on the street, there's a gas station right past the row of shops and Right after the gas stationing is a little parking lot with two hour free parking. read more

This review is more on the customer service and overall experience than the chocolate. The chocolate was lovely as all the other reviews state. The problem was that I wanted a box of assorted chocolates chosen from the displays and some fudge. Aside from the fact that it was Ogunquit during peak summer tourist season which means that there were wall to wall people, getting the attention of the employees was difficult. This wasn't due to the fact that they were all busy helping other customers, they were clustered in center of the displays all chatting with each other. So you had to call out if you had a question or wanted help. Once I picked my chocolates, I went to the fudge woman to have her cut me a small piece. She actually asked me if I would wait while she helped the next person in line. I said yes figuring I could get my other box and then get rung up by the fudge lade once I got my fudge. Bu no, the other employee wanted me to wait for the fudge then bring that to her to have her ring up both. Probably after waiting for her to finish helping whatever customer she had taken in the interim. I told her to just ring up the chocolate & forget about the fudge. I was at my wits end from getting bumped and stepped on and just wanted to get the hell out of there by that point. TL;DR they need a better system to deal with crushes of tourists. read more

This review is not about the candy ( the candy and chocolate are fine) but more about treating the customers with a little respect. After all, we are the ones with the money!!! My wife and I went in and wanted to buy some licorice, did not see any bags, I politely asked the owner for one and he immediately rolled his eyes and gave a sigh. He stated there was a whole stack and pointed, but we did not see them. He frowned his way over and pulled out one that was way in the back of the shelf. I stopped in for some treats to bring home yesterday after seeing all the great reviews on Yelp. I ate one dark chocolate caramello (YUM!) on my walk out the door, but brought my fudge and maple candy home with me. This turned out to be a huge mistake. Why? Because I didn't try the fudge before leaving. And it turns out this is the most delicious fudge I've ever eaten in my entire life. And now I only have this little square of it, which cost $5 so if I had known how good it would be I would have gotten *at least* four. So now I think I have to go back to Maine. read more

When I received this chocolate for Christmas (a box of assorted chocolates), I was so excited. So I was dismayed when just a week and a half later, my family and I found MOLD in the shell of a raspberry filled candy. I emailed the company and heard back a week later. I was told that the truffles come with a paper that says they must be eaten in a certain amount of time but many people do not read it (mine did not come with that paper). They offered to send me more truffles.. Um.. No thanks.. By the time they reach me, they'll be close to expiring. Maybe the should have offered to send something that doesn't mold. read more

The Harbor Candy Shop sells the most amazing marshmallow caramel chocolates I've ever tasted. Shh, don't tell anybody I said that though since my grandparents had a candy store. But they didn't sell these so it's all good. Homemade marshmallows are combined with a creamy caramel and then dipped in milk or dark chocolate. Heaven. This is the kind of candy store you would picture when you walk into a stereotypical old-fashioned New England town, if you were thinking of something more high end and intimate. A door with no spring that you have to close behind you, wooden shelves lined with vices for every taste. It still has a decent amount of traditional candies, so it does not completely alienate the crowds of kids running around, though they are not the focus. It is definitely the store-made chocolate products. The chocolate covered cranberries are wonderful in particular. The prices are high, but reasonable for the store-made chocolate confections, much lower than that of a number of places about Boston, but of equal quality. Those with a particular interest in this store would be vegans, as they have a large selection of soy-based chocolates available. The truffles are not overdressed/decorated, simply well-crafted. When we came in Saturday, we found out the hard way that the door to the 'left' when you're inside is locked, almost like a horrible trap to keep you in, giving you that false hope of escape when you wander near the fudges, forcing you to pass by the displays of truffles twice if you try to wind your way through the store. That is the store's most dangerous feature. If you want ornately decorated animals, stick to Burdicks, but if you want quality chocolate confections with a simpler appearance, this is a wonderful place to stop by. read more

The husband and I are vegan, and imagine our surprise when three years ago when we were up for our annual week-trip to Maine, that this place was loaded with vegan soy milk truffles, and rice milk bars. Beautiful, high quality, handcrafted candies. This store is worth going into just to smell the air, or to look at the candies! I ordered my wedding favors from harbor candy shop, and the staff did an incredible job. They have a wide selection of beautifully boxed candies that they can make in bulk for a wedding. The staff here patiently listened to my mother and I work through our decisions for favors, and demonstrated a variety of ribbons and boxes. They were flexible about my final count, and ultimately told us that we could adjust the number of favors we needed right up until we picked the favors up! Finally stopped by the candy shop for the first time after visiting Ogunquit for the 4th time and we have to say this place is very nice. We got the $10 milk chocolate sampler (although most of us wanted the $20 sampler), a box of raspberry/strawberry (can't tell) gummy lobsters, and 3 boxes of the chocolate rocks with chocolate filled seagulls/shells (also had lemon filled turtles and other cute ocean animals). The chocolate was smooth and melted in our mouths. It was superb. The gummy lobsters were also great since they weren't too sweet and chewy - just right (flavor was great). We actually went back to get another box for the trip back (wish was can go back since we are nearly done with our last box). The sampler had like 10 pieces (estimate) - some kind of bark (haven't tried), maple (subtle flavor but great chocolate), raspberry filled (M. said it was great - not too sweet but creamy), and other stuff (box isn't nearby so unable to actually describe the sampler). It was a tad bit expensive (15 gummies for like $3) but totally worth it. read more

I would probably rate this a 4.5 since I always think there's room for improvement unless some place is utterly fabulous....this comes close though!! I'll state right off the bat that I have only tried two offerings from Harbor Candy, the salted caramels and the almond toffee crunch. While walking around Ogunquit a few years ago, just as the whole sweet/savory caramel thing was becoming popular, we bought a few pieces of the salted caramels, milk for me and dark for my husband, for the ride home. We have a pretty popular CT chocolate shop in town and I had tried their salted caramels and this option was superior by far. A good amount of salt and a soft, delicious caramel covered in high quality chocolate with a small cube shape. It was just the perfect ratio of yummy. Since that visit, I have sent a multitude of boxes of these amazing salted caramels as gifts to family and friends for birthdays, holidays and hostess thank yous! The feedback is always that these are the best salted caramels ever! Well worth a stop if in Ogunquit or they ship anywhere if ordering online is required! read more

Chocolate. When it's homemade and made properly there's just nothing like it. I spend many days in Ogunquit during the summer. On my way from the beach to my car, I stop in to this amazing, Harry Potterish candy shop. I ignore all the candy nonsense and head right over to the display windows where you can easily and quite happily spend your next month's mortgage payment buying a tiny piece of chocolate for $38.00 a pound. Rather than purchase a box of chocolates, eat the contents of said box, and then spend the next few days denying myself food because I feel like a farm pig, I instead select about 5 or six pieces of heavenly chocolate, pay my $8.00 or $9.00, and eat them on the way home. There is a wonderful bakery right next door so I'm usually torn between the bakery and the chocolate shop; however, the chocolate shop normally wins me over. If you're lucky on most days you can see the chocolate artisans through the glass window spinning their magic. I've tried many, many different pieces of chocolate in this shop and one is just as good as the last. Yes, it's ridiculously expensive; but, when something tastes this good it's also meant to be expensive. If I lived closer there would be no other solution than for me to get a stomach lap band for the chocolate here is just that good. I would weight 400 pounds if I lived closer and would gladly give up two meals a day in order to eat the treats served in this store. read more

Went to this old fashioned candy store on Main St. Upon entering I amazed at the variety of home made candy and the interesting store history which is posted on the wall. You can even see candy being made through a window at the back of the store. On my visit the staff was friendly and did not mind cutting (and selling) a smaller piece of fudge than what was packaged and on display. The penuche fudge was fresh but I did not enjoy it, though no fault of the store. Fudge can be made with either evaporated, condense milk or cream which gives it a different texture. I like the heavier creamery texture which actually taste like more like blocks of frosting which was not the case here. Despite my preference Harbor Candy offers lots of tempting choices. Prices appeared to average 2 dollars for individual pieces for sale. Worth a visit. read more

I simply love this place! I've been coming to Ogunquit since my childhood in the 70s, and this place has long been a quintessential stop during my visits. The quality of the goods on offer is superb, and the servers are very good at looking after the clientele, many of whom seem to come in with childhood favorites that they're looking to re-sample. Yes, the prices are high-ish, but a) the whole town is seasonal, so they have a limited amount of time to cover an entire year's worth of expenses; b) everything tastes extraordinary, and c) you really don't need to buy a whole lot to satisfy your craving. read more

On a recent trip to Ogunquit my wife was delighted to bring home to me a gift box of chocolates from Harbour Candy Shop. (size about 7 x 5 inches) The chocolates were smallish, and the quality nothing to write home about, especially when she had paid a premium price for them. Well, I thought, maybe they'll be nicer on the bottom layer. Surprise! There was NO bottom layer, only an empty space under the cardboard divider. Extragavant price, mediocre quality and deliberately deceptive packaging. We will be visiting Ogunquit again, but you can be sure we won't be stopping at Harbor Candy Shop. I've never dealt with such a rude man in my life, he berated one of his employees in front of customers and when we asked a question about the truffles he became annoyed with us and yelled at us to just purchase one and try it for $1.15, he was not helpful and his crew looked miserable and weary. I have been coming here for a few years and never encountered rude staff, as some other reviewers have apparently met. In fact, the people working the counter have always been very patient and friendly- I go into "kid in a candy store" mode, completely overwhelmed . I take a lot of time at the counter. Also, their chocolate is not that pricey, at least by comparison. I live in the Boston area, I am vegan, and accustomed to places marking up dairy free options because they are "specialties".Without naming names, the chocolates available down here in Mass are often much more expensive and nowhere near as good. My total was $16+ change last week, which got me a cute bag of hard candies I am giving as a christmas gift, and several delicious vegan chocolates- peppermint patties, peanut butter cups, chocolate covered cherries, a truffle, and a few cremes. read more

While i think the homemade chocolate selection needs a little work, the saltwater taffy here is so yummy and fresh. They also hand cut the fudge to order and it is very yummy as well. I haven't had the good fortune to visit this shop in person, but I am a faithful online customer. I am not a complete vegan, but I try to be. Come holidays and birthdays, I order several boxes of vegan chocolates for immediate and extended family, and friends. Regardless of whether people are vegan or not, they all rave about this vegan chocolate. It is delicious, both in taste and texture. In fact, it's total perfection! Rude and overpriced. A friend and I walked up to the counter to order our candy. She ordered first, getting a variety of chocolates. The woman behind the counter rolled her eyes when she had to walk across the other side of the counter to get the chocolates. When she was done, I attempted to put my candy order in. I Purchased a box of vegan valentine's chocolate expecting vegan cruelty-free chocolate and when it arrived, the card in it says the ingredients and there is an additional line that says "Some sugars used in this assortment may be processed with bone char"!! YUM! I love walking into a place and being overwhlemed by the smell of sugar and walls of spectacularly colored candy. This would be a great place to get gifts for people if your visiting, they have chocolate sailboats and shells and sea things, just don't let them melt in your car on the way home. I got 3 pieces of chocolate and it came out to $6.70, craxy expensive! The vanilla bean leaf could have been better I feel, but the peppermint patty and carmallow hit the spot. They have such a wonderful FRESH selection of fudge, chocolate, candy, etc. It's just a great place to browse and I DARE you not to buy something!!! I got this nougat-nut thing (I can't remember the name) but it tastes super-sweet and must be all-sugar! I also got this thing that can only be described as a caramel-marshmallow sandwich. Looks better than it tasted, but they can't ALL be winners! They also sell those jelly-slices that I love - you know the kind that look like half-slices of orange? (or blue-whatever!).
