    Carrot torteloni
    Michael R.

Our first time at Northern Union and enjoyed a nice dinner with friends. The outdoor dining looks fantastic, but despite being late June, it was a cold and windy Maine evening, and it was just not in the cards. We were seated at a large table in what seemed like our own room with a nice view outdoors. Atmosphere here is great. Our evening started at the bar, where the bartended mixed up some delicious cocktails, most were twists on some classic cocktails. They all hit the mark. This is somewhat of a small plates, tapas style restaurant if you choose, but we treated it as a traditional menu with appetizers, main course and dessert. The blue corn bread was interesting, but I felt a bit flavorless, and this is coming from a guy who despises over salted and over seasoned food. I went with the vegetarian dish, a buttered carrot torteloni, which was beautiful to look at, but again not much flavor going on. I was starting to worry that I might have lost my sense of taste, but fortunately other dishes were flavorful. Another diner had the halibut which was a very small, but perfectly cooked portion. The NY strip steak was a hit with the diners who tried it. The menu overall is small, but has enough variety for most diners I would say. All in all, this is a nice option in Ogunquit. Service was top notch, dining room is beautiful in and out.

Unbelievable culinary experience. I love small plates and basically ordered every appetizer on the menu in lieu of ordering an entree. The food is unmatched anywhere else we have eaten in the area. We come back every year. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable as well. Nice and quiet atmosphere on the porch. I'm a non-drinker and the mocktail was incredible. Well done.

This was an awesome place. We went here for the last day of our vacation and l am glad we did, best orange juice ever, amazing dessert, great server and service. 10 / 10 definitely recommend it. (First time having swordfish). Written by my 9-year-old son. He was a HUGE fan.

We had a birthday celebration at Northern Union tonight, and the service and food were both excellent. Katie was our server, and from the moment we were seated, she treated us like gold. It was a very special birthday dinner, and we found the appetizers and main courses to be fresh, original, and of high quality. As a special birthday gift - we were presented with a complimentary crème brûlée that was nothing short of amazing. We have dined in many wonderful places throughout the world and found the hospitality and food to be on par with the best of those experiences. We would definitely recommend this place!

Simply an excellent restaurant. Tranquil ambience, attentive service, a refined meal - a perfect way to unwind from the drive and start off your vacation! We first visited pre-pandemic and loved the place; post-pandemic, we were very happy to see it looked after by the same chef and that it hadn't lost a step. After a cocktail or two, we shared some terrific appetizers: a meat & cheese board, featuring local cheeses, salumi, and a fine delicate honey; steamed pork belly buns, a surprisingly good "General Tso"-style mushrooms; and, the best of the bunch, terrific potato latkes, so light and ephemeral, it was hard to believe they were made from the lowly tuber. I followed with the seared duck, which was lean and tasty; my wife and one of my daughters had the ricotta tortelloni comprised of local chanterelles; and my other daughter had the best dish that night: grilled Statler chicken breast, which was crispy-skinned, succulent, and absolutely delicious. We shared desserts of their vanilla sponge cake, upside-down peanut butter banana cake, and the lemon-raspberry cheesecake. All 3 were very good and satisfying - our fave was the sponge cake. These desserts, coupled with their excellent french-pressed coffee, was a great ending to a very fine meal.

Menu reads well. The air feels boss and relaxed. We don't mind shelling out for delicious food- but big price to pay for small portions and not so good food, isn't a match and that's a problem. Seriously, we came to a stylish restaurant in the quieter and residential section of Ogunquit on Shore Rd and I would've 100% rather have gone for a slice of pizza. Don't get me wrong though- the service from our guy CJ was phenomenal and everyone else- but some of our items didn't hit it right. Highlight of the evening was the mind-blowing and creative Caesar salad and a reinvented Banana Cream Pie- that was actually Vegan! That's it. But taste and quality on our entrees fell hard. For starters, hubs' short rib had a lot of gristle. And second, I've no idea why my Gnocchi & Lobster tasted overwhelmingly sweet. I get there was "corn butter" in my dish- but there was no mention on how 'sweet' my item was. We were disappointed and hoped they would've pushed the envelope just a l...i...t...t...l...e bit further.

Probably the best restaurant in Ogunquit. A great experience with cutting-edge food and friendly service. Every dish we had was spot-on and executed with precision. Definitely a must.

Carrots and corn bread starter. Also pictured watermelon cocktail. I think we could've done three servings of the carrots.

Great spot all around. Amazing food, great cocktails/wine selection, professional wait staff and can't beat location. Went here for my wife's birthday during peak season(mid august). Our reservations were for inside which was the right call because between 5-7 the Sun is beating down on the patio for half the outside seating. Next time we will aim to be outside past 7pm. The waitress did a great job helping us decide on our meal/drinks. The music was on point all night and we can't wait to come back for another meal.

We LOVED Northern Union! Everything from the ambiance, decor and music to the very friendly service and amazing food! You should definitely check them out if you are looking for a great dining experience. I had dinner here on 9.16.21. I was able to easily make a reservation for 2 using Resy. We were seated right away and greeted by Colleen C soon after. She was very nice and explained all of the menu items we had questions about. It was clear she felt passionate about working here. The restaurant has a casual comfortable vibe but you could definitely dress up and still fit in. They had upbeat music playing but not too loud (it was actually the Washed Out Pandora radio station - we asked!). We ordered a cocktail to start, and the mixologist Tim delivered it and explained what we were having - the corn salsa margarita. It sounded so interesting and we both really enjoyed it. For our meal we had: *Brown bread *Corn soup *Roasted carrots *Grilled statler chicken breast *Roasted pork tenderloin We really loved all of these things and would recommend them all. I usually don't order chicken at restaurants, as it tends to be dry without much seasoning but the statler chicken here was so good!! The tomatoes really paired nicely in the dish and the basil gnocchi gave it a nice richness. I would highly recommend making a reservation and making sure to visit Northern Union for your next meal!!

I cannot say enough good things about Northern Union! We usually drive up to Ogunquit a couple times each year just to visit this restaurant, and it never disappoints. My husband and I usually order (and share) anywhere from 4-8 plates while we're here and enjoy a few different glasses of wine as we rotate through the plates, so the night really feels like a tour of a date! We always sit at the bar (Tim is amazing!) and always have a great time! I only wish they opened earlier, but they do take reservations, and they have indoor and beautiful outdoor seating, too, so if you plan and call ahead, you should be able to get in.

    Be'er and cocktail
    Sara M.

We chose this place because we wanted a light bite and it didn't disappoint. The take reservations and we got a table by their fire pit. Be'er, wine and cocktail menu was extensive and I had a vodka cocktail with watermelon, lime and Boone's Farm-definitely a nostalgic drink. We shared three small plates: the brown bread, pork belly baos and olives and my only complaint is I wish the portions were huge because it was all delicious. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly.

Fantastic atmosphere we stumbled into this place and were seated in a very modern and unique wine cellar... with this being the final stop of a lengthy pub crawl everyone enjoyed espresso martinis. The food was great we were impressed with the diversity of the menu very unique would highly recommend

Reservations recommended we were seated at a beautiful table for two right near the bar and started off with a Pinot noir and a cabernet. Both wines were delightful. For appetizers we had the braised lamb crepe and the octopus... Both dishes were delicious, presented well with sauces to die for. Followed by the pasta dish and the duck. These were the best dinners of the year for us. The blending of flavors were fantastic and it was augmented by the owner coming over and talking to us about how the food was prepared. I won't bore you with all the details but the octopus is slow boiled for 5 hours.. complete with wine. Corks it was tender and delicious with the Mediterranean flair. We go out to eat our fair share from high end to diners anywhere. The food is well prepared and delicious... This was the top for the year! From the service to the presentation to the wine to the ambiance, everything is top notch here. I will provide a warning. You will drop a pretty penny if you partake in all the courses, but we thought it was well worth it. Thank you to the staff and ownership. We enjoyed our evening.. a true date night.

I say alcohol because it wasn't all wine but ... since it's a bit of a surprise in terms of what actually appears I'll just leave it at that. However, as to the food ... I'll give a taste, a flavor, a wisp of a whisper of the full culinary adventure. For complete details, see your local sous chef! Here's what we had. In the middle of my photo collage, a blood sausage slider with fennel/jalapeño sauce on toasted brioche bun. Then clockwise from top left - cornbread with maple glaze in a Barbie sized personal cast iron skillet; beet salad with goat cheese half spheres; a dessert tray of black apple cake with hay ice cream (yes, seriously), chamomile pot de creme and a duck fat beignet; an assortment of ice creams - fenugreek, fennel/maitake mushroom/burnt hazelnut (all tasted fabulous and in each you could taste the listed flavors); entree of duck and wild mushroom tart; white bean soup and finally a pasta dish of ravioli with two fillings. Just a note on what it would take to make it yourself. See that hexagonal white blob on the bottom row, middle pic? That's a potato foam. Forgive me for not recalling the full procedure but the prep is roughly 7 hours long. First, the cut potatoes are cooked in a sous vide for 2 hours so that no moisture is added to them. Then a succession of ricing, smoking, drying, undrying, mashing, placing in a foam machine that looked like a whipped cream dispenser and boom - a tiny dollop of potato. It tasted great. But man - that's a lot of effort for a mouthful of potato. I don't think I'll be trying it at home. Over two hours of eating and chatting. I brought a couple of my restaurant-based cartoons as my personal thanks for the meal and was shocked that Justin, their sommelier, had done a cartoon of his own ahead of time for me! Just stick to wine, Justin - I don't need any MORE competition with my magazine editors ... With Dylan ably providing the primary chef duties and Amaya and Justin handling the booze, the meal was a smashing success. The food pairings were masterfully chosen and timing of the dishes meant we were always primed for the next one. Although the succession of what I'd call dessert dishes made me start to feel like a Hobbit enjoying dessert, second dessert and then post seconds. As Anton Ego said in Ratatouille (and they have a cute Reme rat under glass on a shelf) "I shall be returning, hungry for more."
