Love this place! Everyone is super chill and friendly my only complaint was the bouncer. He was really rude and kicked us out cause my friends went to drink a few doors down outside on the street. They bought they're own booze from the deli but we were upset because we weren't on their property so we shouldn't have gotten kicked out. It smelled like the inside of your Greek uncle's armpit. Perhaps that's what Happyfun Hideaway is named after. Seriously, open a door. Noise complaints, heat costs, whatever excuse, be damned, it stinks inside so we left after one beer and went to Birdy's around the corner instead. The menus on the table were also covered in cheese from the previous guests. I give it 4 stars because I liked the vibe. The clientele was an eclectic bunch of people. I really wanted this bar to be my happy, fun hideaway in Bushwick, especially it being walking distance from where I live, discreet, and low key. It has a sense of dive -- cheap selection of booze and cocktails, a whiff of hipster musk dabbled in a bit of whimsical funk, island humidity, old reminiscent arcade games, lowbrow art paintings, cartoons that ring childhood nostalgia, mismatched seating like remnants from several yard sales and patio parties. It's shabby, but not grimy. Service is decent and the bar has an overall easygoing atmosphere. I had a HORRIBLE experience at this place last night. I really wanted to like it, cool ambiance and decent music. The bartender with a beard was so rude to me, he has no customer-first mentality at all. I was nothing but polite, but he would not bend or do anything for me, even after I had tipped him well and they had obviously made a profit from what I had ordered. I ordered a pitcher of white sangria, which was disgusting. I was very apologetic and nice when I took it up to the bar and asked him if I could just have something cheap or small instead, but he threw his hands up in the air and looked at me as if I was insane. "I mean... no I'll have to charge you for it......" I went up again a couple minutes later, again being as nice and apologetic as possible, but just asking if he could give me anything for all the money I had just spent. Again, same flabbergasted reaction from him. "I don't know any business owner who would do something like that...." Um, how about any SMART business owner who knows that keeping a customer happy is the most important thing, especially if it won't cost you anything. All he had to do was give me a budweiser or PBR, this only would have cost them a couple of bucks, which they had already made in profit from the sangria I paid for. I've never felt more taken advantage of or robbed by a bar in my life. It really put a damper on my evening. If you're ever there, don't expect the bartender with a beard to treat you like a customer, he'll just gather up every dollar he can from you and serve you apple juice cat piss and call it 'sangria' for $15. I'm never going there again, and I will urge everyone I know to never go. Run away! This place is not happy and fun, the bartender is rude and self-entitled. read more

I went to this place because it was part of the Brokelyn free beer coupon booklet I bought this year. So happy to have found this little bushwick gem! The atmosphere was very friendly and the bartender was really nice. I ended up having a few drinks & grilled cheese which was very good. The mixed drinks here are awful. I ordered a pina colada that was undrinkable. It was all pina colada mix, nastiness, and a splash of tequila. I also tried the mango chili margarita which had no heat and tasted like water. I would suggest sticking with beers here, canned beers because there's no possible way they could screw that up. Also I wanted to go out into the patio area but it was closed, lame. The only thing that saves this place is that the drinks are cheap but really, never again. read more

My very favorite J-train area bar. Chill, cute, fun, welcoming, and all vegetarian (although I wish they had more vegan things!).

Really chill comfortable spot with an interesting crowd, they had ginger beer to go with their bourbon so I was a fan. The back patio was really nice and the DJ was actually pretty fantastic even just using youtube and a fader. The only thing I might have changed was the gratuitous amount of gay porn playing on all the tv's...not sure what the idea was with that, is it a gay bar? It was a little alienating. read more

I loved this place! It was divey, cheap, and great people to be around. It has a large patio in the back with cute lights and a decent amount of space inside. Honestly, the decorations reminded me of a gay version of Animal Crossing, the game, and I absolutely loved it. The bartenders were nice, decent amount of seating available even at 10:45 pm on a Saturday. It got crowded around midnight, but it was air conditioned and comfortable. The drinks were great and pretty cheap for what you got. There was a great food menu, however, I did not try any food, but was very interested to do so. read more

I talked this bar up to all of my friends, and even brought one of my friends here tonight. the bartender barely looked at us when we asked when the specials were and was annoyed when we couldn't hear what he said. I touched the outside of a pineapple cup he had placed on the bar. Totally my fault, I wasn't thinking and I asked him how I could get a drink in that cool cup. He immediately chastised me for touching the cup, re washed it, told me once again not to touch something he had just washed, even though I apologized twice and told him I was very sorry. my friend asked him his name to try and make amends and be friends he shook his head and said "WHAT do you want" .... we had to leave because we felt so uncomfortable. read more

I learned for the first time today that the bar automatically charges you 20% for tabs over $40. I've never recalled such a policy at a this establishment, nevermind any bar in Brooklyn ever. I was informed by the bar tender, whose service wasn't top notch but I really didn't care, about the policy and pointed me to a tiny little sign. I really don't care about the money. But to give you a little background, I put my friend and my drink on my tab to settle afterwards, but settled it myself since I was feeling generous. I learned about the policy after the fact, and asked to split it between us but the bartender had already charged and refused to redo. I guess that is understandable. All I am saying that it feels reminiscent of being on a Ryan Air flight dealing with fine print about hidden costs. My advice is that the bartenders inform the patrons before charging them because who is actually reading fucking signs? read more

Headed here for birthday drinks with some friends. None of us had been there before, but it sounded cute, and it's super close to all of us so why not have an adventure?! The adventure turned out to be sitting in a sweltering bar while we were ignored for 45 minutes. I believe the bartender was new, so that cooled off some of the annoyance, but she spent the entire time focusing on one specific spot at the bar. I started to wonder if maybe WE were the jerks and that's where everyone needed to go to get served, but nope... 45 minutes later she made her way down to our end of the bar. I hate writing a bad review but there is definitely some work that needs to be done... like maybe don't manhandle someone's food directly after handling all the change from an emptied out pinball machine (gloves? handwashing? bueller?)... and try to focus on the entire length of the bar... and open a door or something if people's eyes start rolling back in their heads from the heat. I really wanted to like this place (hence hanging around for so long CONVINCED that it would get better at any moment), but I definitely did not.
