If you love music and a no-nonsense scene, Lucky 13 Saloon is one of the best. The whole place is rad. It's old-school, gritty, & punk. Probably the best place in Brooklyn to see a show these days. It's got dark lighting and killer decor. I love the huge, black, stable-style entry doors. This is the perfect spot to grab a cheap beer, hang out, and catch stellar bands performing. Sound has always been spot on. They have an awesome back room for the live music sets and have hosted some incredible underground, punk, and metal acts over the years--including bands like Mortician, Profanatica, and Malignancy, plus tons of insane local talent and metal burlesque shows. Honestly, though, my absolute favorite time to go is when my best friend deejays there. Whenever I am in town, I always make sure to drop by when she is spinning. My first here and it was for a Sunday show. Cool spot. There's a bar and seating area when you first come in. And it definitely has a bar vibe to it. Cool bartenders which is always a plus. This is a fun metal-themed dive bar with cheap drinks and really friendly bartenders. The place is heavily decorated with horror and heavy metal bands memorabilia. This bar has an audience, and to that audience it's perfect. The drinks are cheap and relatively strong. The lighting and decor says dive bar. And even on Tuesday, there's a beautiful woman dancing on the bar. The only unfortunate thing is it's surrounded by the construction site of what we used to call Gowanus. read more

My friends band was playing here so we went to the show. And from the outside looks like a regular bat but as you go in there's a bar to the right that has dancers on it! For your boozing pleasure and a stage in the back for the local and up and coming bands. Real cool underground joint . After work, I walked over to the downtown-bound station to catch the R train to Union Street but there were delays. I was panicking that I was going to be late because I do like to be on time for shows. I got a little lost when I finally got to Union Street station apparently I can't read Google maps so well lol. Note: Keep walking straight on the same block as the Speedway Gas Station then make a left turn. I arrived at the music venue a little after 7 pm...phew! I gave the woman $10 for the door cover and told her that I was here for Human Calligraphy (https://www.facebook.com/humancalligraphy/). She put a yellow wristband around my right arm. Thank god the band was setting up their equipment on stage. They were supposed to start at 8 pm but their sound check wasn't complete yet. My boys Human Calligraphy performed at 8:11 pm and played 5 kick ass songs. Usually, an enormous mosh pit will form in front of the stage but not tonight so I can really enjoy their set. I was so happy to rock out with Gio (the frontman) tonight because it has been a decade since I rocked out with his other band Ismada (https://www.instagram.com/ismadanyc/) - they're back ::screaming:: This was actually my very first show back as a music promoter and I go by dev0tedanna (https://www.facebook.com/dev0tedanna/)! bartender was incredibly rude and passive aggressive to a black woman. engaged with other white guests and ignored her request for a drink multiple times. made visually annoyed faces at the woman when she was just smiling and laughing with other guests. the bartender visually saw the woman put her hand out for her change but decided to put it on the table in front of her hand. very disgusting behavior. this is not a space for everyone because of this bartenders nasty behavior. if you're going to pick and choose who you're nice to working customer service, you don't need to be working. 0/10. read more

The only memory I have of this bar is when it existed on like 15th or 16th street in south park slope and decided to go on an ill planned bar crawl with someone many many years ago. I possibly lost my cardigan here and the guy I was dating at the time was too afraid to come back to find it. Came to the not so new anymore location over in Gowanus the other week for a show. I will say, there is something at every angle of the bar to take a gander at. Horror movie posters, masks, dolls, etc. It's halloween all year in the heavy metal world. Drinks are somewhat affordable (these days) for their happy hour which goes on until surprisingly 8pm. Not a terrible pick of beers either on draft. I'm surprised. They had craft beer across the street from Wild East brewing. They serve food which is another shocker. I guess microwavable pizzas, fries, onion rings of a sort. Back room has a stage for performances. It's a little grimey but it has a fun shtick. Reminds me of Duff's quite a bit in Wburg. They have go go dancers on the bar later in the night post happy hour. How many ill-advised beer/shot combos can you have in a single night? The answer to that question: 1. Lies within Lucky 13. 2. Actually depends on your body weight, history of alcohol abuse, and how much you've eaten and drank prior to walking through these dark doors. Whereas the previous incarnation of this metal bar was a small, sordid sanctuary smack in the center of the strollerville that is the Slope, this "new" Lucky 13 has landed in the already industrial, still slightly sketchy but rapidly gentrifying Gowanus. Unfortunately, as I only end up here on rare weekdays, I still have yet to see scantily-clad pole dancers, fights, and/or anyone decked out in piercings, spikes and chains. Even without those trappings, Lucky 13 is still quite obviously a metal bar. If you didn't figure that out from the heavily decorated walls or the stage in the back room (sparsely attended standup comedy on Wednesdays, evidently), the loud deathmetal coming over the speakers (pairs surprisingly well with Arnold as Conan on the TVs) should've been an indication. Because bars don't play that music unless they are metal bars. When one unintelligible song came on after the previous unintelligible song, I turned to one of my friends and said, "This is my jam." But it wasn't. It really wasn't. I was unsuccessfully just trying to fit in. Luckily, alcohol makes everyone feel at home, and happy hour runs from 2-8 pm here. Here's some quick info about this place: - no cover charge ($10 if you want to see the live bands) - alcoholic beverages were only $6, the bartenders were very cool too - heavy metal music - very cool decor - live bands play in an area situated at the back of the place, the sound is also decent Ok! So the place has a "rail-road" layout, from the front all the way towards the back! The bathrooms are located towards the middle of the place and the bar pretty much takes up about the whole front of the place. Loud heavy metal music and some cool bloody flicks playing on the flat-screens, then after about 10 p.m. Go-go dancers hop onto the bar wearing skimpy outfits, so be prepared for all of this! This is when you know the bar you are in rocks! I asked the bartender for a "May Breeze" (for the wife and NOT for me ofcourse), his response: "what is that?" Ever since Goodbye Blue Mondays closed, I been heartbroken. But hold, my heart! Very first time we stepped through the open garage door and into Lucky 13 Saloon, I knew this is real deal. Crowd is good - bikers, heavy metal fans, and just Brooklyn locals - I am yet to run into d-bags or such. Melody runs the bar with a help of awesome crew - and takes care of everything, from lost puppies to making mean drinks. There are few TV screens that play vids, awesome dark decor elements and posters everywhere. Fans made from tires. Lights out of Jack bottles. Freaking amazing. Metal groups and stand up shows run live few times a week at the back room. Background music is gold. Metal, rock, of course. But there is a real jukebox, too - seriously, how can you top that? Wait for it... ....There are 3-4 hot-dayum dancers *on* the bar every night. Yuuuuuup. They all pretty cool and really entertaining. I've been a Lucky 13 lovah for over a decade now. Just when you thought they couldn't improve on a great thing (your friendly rock & roll neighborhood bar with libations that range from cheap and sassy to cheap and classy; plus: absinthe), they went and moved to a bigger space, one with a stage, a large bar and plenty of seating as well. Beyond the rock & roll as hell ambiance, cheap drinks (love the new cocktail list!), friendly bartenders (fact: I am proud to have once been one of them 6 years ago), live shows and awesome space that you're going to be reading about in other reviews, I wanted to point something out as an ex New Yorker who comes back to town several times a year. Lucky 13 has something that so many bars lack in NYC these days: a *real* local crowd. Like actual New Yorkers these days seem to be disappearing or maybe they just don't go out? I'm not knocking other places, but it feels like I'm really coming home when I return to Lucky 13 and I don't feel that too often these days. Great dive bar. Awesome space/decor. Excellent music selection. Friendly bartenders. Overall great vibe. I came on a Wednesday night so it wasn't crowded. They have dancers here every night. It's cool because since it's not a strip club, there's no obligation to tip when sitting at the bar (CLARIFICATION: YOU SHOULD STILL TIP THE DANCERS!!!! It's just a nice feeling not to feel pressured into doing so and to do it because they are awesome/really nice). Highly recommend this spot especially if you are into dive bars. read more

Lucky 13 Saloon - It's a Heavy Metal bar, Biker bar, Dive bar and music venue all in one. Those traits make this bar stand apart from all others in the neighborhood and Brooklyn. Like other dive bars you find stickers, graffiti and low lights. There's a full bar with 6 beers on tap and more in can or bottles. It has one of the best Happy Hours deals for beer chuggers like myself. Just $10 for a pitcher of domestic beers during HH. A pitcher is over 3 pints and each pint is $5. They got some bar food including a pretty decent pizza. They also have Go-Go dancers after 10 PM every night but I've seen them perform earlier on Fridays and Saturdays. It gets pretty packed on those days. There's a stripper pole on the bend of the bar. The dancer is inches away from you when she asks you for a tip, so don't be cheap. Also don't be cheap with the bartenders. They are all chill, young tattooed ladies that look like they were stolen from the John Wick movie set. ( Remember the girls who put in the orders for the syndicate on Commodore 64, keyboards answering mid century black Bakalite telephones?) These ladies are the real deal though. The bikers are also the real deal as well. A famous biker clubhouse used to be a couple of blocks away. Of course you'll get your occasional poser who bought a Kawasaki 2 weeks ago and is in full biker regalía trying to pick up girls. The neighborhood has changed greatly as of late and the bar does get its share of regular middle-upper class clientele. I just heard a patron ask for a Kombucha sauce for her food and the bartender returned immediately with it. I don't even want to know what that is. I have yet to see a show here but am dying to. This is probably my favorite bar in Brooklyn and I'm shocked that I haven't reviewed it before. I like it because it is one of the few hard rock metal bars around. The decor definitely goes with it and the people who work here are really friendly especially Melody the owner who remembers your name. It is cash only so keep that in mind. The people on here are pretty cool the lines for the bathroom whenever too long and they have interesting shows going on. The fun part about it is that once in a while they have yoga in the back to black metal music which is something I have not seen before and that I really enjoy, totally worth the money. Made a late night stop at Lucky 13 Saloon on Friday. A great dive bar with cheap drinks, friendly bartenders, and live entertainment. Quality: Ended up at Lucky 13 Saloon for one last drink before heading home. The drink choices are exactly what you expect of a dive. Standard beers and cheap liquor. I went with an ice cold draft Heineken and it hit the spot. Quantity: Extremely generous pours. Value: $5 for a Draft Beer. Ambiance: Lucky 13 Saloon is a dive and music venue in a desolate strip of Gowanus. It is a metal bar, so the walls are covered in album covers and horror movie posters. Don't be surprised by the skeletons and creepy dolls hanging down from the ceiling. Behind the bar is a separate music venue area, but the show was over before we arrived. They had a few televisions in the corners showing sports highlights and heavy metal playing over the speakers. They also had a stripper dancing on the bar, which really just completed the scene. Crowd: A metal bar and most of the crowd looked the part. Could not have been a friendlier group though, who were immediately ready for us to join the party. Service: Hilarious bartenders who set the tone for the bar. Parking: Parking available on nearby streets. read more

The staff here made the whole experience unpleasant. The bouncer was late and I guess that triggered the bartender because at like 6 pm she started muttering under her breath about how it's not her job to check IDS and how the bouncer was the issue. And she had such a bad reaction to the situation. She forced all the people under 21 out in the freezing cold until the show started. Just straight up cruel. Trying to get a drink from her was like pulling teeth. She would be chatting in the corner with whatever rare customer she actually liked and would straight up ignore other customers for about 10+ minutes. She refused to serve certain drinks and was honestly a really rotten and ill mannered bartender. We get it. You hate your job. Get over it. read more

The girls and I were looking for a place that had outdoor seating and frozen margs and we found this place that looked cool enough. We show up and there are just single individuals taking up whole tables but there was a table in the corner that had the possibility to fit our party of four. We just wanted a drink and to banter but while we all stand there looking stupid, the host very obviously is ignoring us, doesn't come up to us and speak with us, offer any options, and just turns his head away. All these punk dudes are smiling at us outside and we felt rather disrespected and rude. Don't open if you're not going to be welcoming. Black listed. And I hope people find this helpful read more

If you look up dive bar in the dictionary, there's a likely chance you'll find this bar. Albeit with 10x more metal and horror movies, but a legit dive nonetheless. If you're anywhere near this neighborhood and love dives, you're in luck. read more

Probably one of my favorite bars. The bartenders are a some of the friendliest people I ever met, and the crowd is so chill. Drinks are ridiculously cheap, and they give buy backs. read more
