WORST service ever. asked for a Dark and stormy, received a vodka water. told the bartender with green hair, and he kicked us out

YUPPIE HIPSTERS, DONT COME HERE. You'll hate it. The BO will drive you nuts. Forreal tho, this is one of the precious few spots in Bushwick that doesn't cater to rich normies. Can y'all just let us weirdos have it? Please? Cheap drinks (though Gotham is cheaper), awesome art, pinball, sweet bartenders, and a great patio. I've been coming here since they opened and it will always have a special place in my heart. Do yo thang, Happyfun. PS: Don't park your bike in front of Lil Skip's if it's late. Shady folks across Charles stole my friend's wheel while we were drinking here one night. read more

Hipsters galore - barf. I've graduated from that phase of my life. I do, however, live around the corner; and this past Saturday while my roommate was in the shower, I really had to take a piss--so bad that my vision was blurred--so I ran to Happyfun, used their restroom (admittedly, decent) and out of sheer politeness, ordered an IPA. It was somewhat early, the hipsters weren't out yet--another words, the place was tolerable. When it's low key, it's an OK venue. A little too ramshackle for me, but I do love the fact that they play old films and cartoons. Anyway, I ended up ordering a few IPA's that night and even bought an out-of-town hipster that I briefly struck a conversation with at the bar a beer. She had ordered the cheapest beer there--one of those godawful Mexican beers. Somehow my bill came to $40. I didn't call them out on it because by that time the place was swamped with hipsters and I wanted to get the hell out. The point of the story is that though the place appears cheap, they will try to pull a few fast ones. Be razor sharp and alert; especially if you don't look the hipster part. I think that's when the bartenders discriminate/judge. The ironic thing is though it's definitely not my favorite place in the world, I am naturally a generous tipper and tipped enough that each bartender could have bought a new t-shirt at Beacon's Closet. No need to be greedy I got enough to feed the needy. read more

Fantastic bar. Great vibes, killer dj who plays random nostalgic goodies. I had a fantastic time and loved the courtyard, the pinball machines, and even the insane amount of disco balls in there. The prices are great for a bar anywhere in NYC and there is such a wonderful neighborhood around. read more

I'm a fan a this beautifully bizarre little bar. Complete with a picnic table (and umbrella!) just to the right of the entrance, a projector that screens seemingly random films in the back, and an outside patio area, how could I not be? This past Saturday I met a couple of friends here for a couple of rounds of drinks, and it provided colorful refuge from the gray day. Starting out with a mango chili margarita, which I spotted on their "fancy drink" list, it was tackily served in a plastic "glass-" the perfect touch! We then shared an order of the nachos, which would have been exactly like those I ate at swim meets in the 1980's and 1990's had it not been for the chopped tomato, onion, and pepper that sprinkled the liquid cheese. Mmm... My second round consisted of their $7 tequila/Tecate deal, which was a good way to go out. And I'd definitely go back! read more

Dude, this place is cheap, plays creepy Betty Boop cartoons and has Alec Baldwin pinball. I'm content! read more

Happyfun Hideaway - a pinball machine in a dark room - Dive Bars Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Happyfun is probably one of my favorite bars in bushwick. Cheap drinks and an amazing environment. I've literally never had a bad time at happyfun. HIGHLY recommend read more

I really, really want to like this place. The location is bomb, and the vibes are nice. BUT...the entire bar smelled like dirty socks. Either I was having a stroke, someone next door had died and left a pile of wet laundry for his poor landlord, or the bartender wasn't aware that showers are a thing that people do. By no means am I a neat freak or a clean freak or any kind of freak save for in the bedroom, but I'm a little freaked out by the stench of feet when I'm just trynna drink my shitty beer. I'm definitely coming back to investigate. read more

I always try to be supportive of LGBT safe spaces but in the middle of December my partner and I couldnt stay past one beer due to the thick, humid air. Maybe it was a bad night, but it reminded me of the bathrooms at Penn Station during Pride. Prices were reasonable, and I'm curious as to how their mixed drinks taste. Will be back during the warmer seasons to try out the patio, which I hear is really nice. read more

I couldn't have said it better than this post I made on Facebook last week: "This place is already my favorite bar in Bushwick. A nice break from the cliche places that have mostly opened up around there lately. Good vibes." read more

I cannot see why you'd call it hipster, unless you call every place in bushwick that serves mainly white people 'hipster' in which case screw y'all. It's smelly divey friendly place, not sure maybe gay bar but not in a jack-shack way, read more

I'm kind of sick of the smell, it's always packed and how am I supposed to differentiate the hipsters from the homos, what if they're both??? Lot's of fondness for this place in my heart and plenty of good times. Prefer walking into Birdy's these days on the mere reason that there's probably less stickiness and more space. $10 minimum here btw read more

Yes, there are hipsters here. Yes, sometimes it smells weird. But look, drinks are pretty damn affordable for rapidly gentrifying Brooklyn, the back patio during warmer times and off-peak hours is WONDERFUL, and while I've had to roll my eyes while eavesdropping on conversation, I've had some pretty fantastic run-ins with random people passing through. Give it a shot, but if you see that it's too crowded, make like Bonnie Tyler and Turn Around. read more

First I was taken aback from the "D I Y" ethos, but then the hippity hippity mind boggling maybe a ecstacy pill in my drink or maybe just the TV screens playing anime made me feel a little funny. Happy Hard Hideaway is what they should call this libation feast for the senses. read more

Happyfun Hideaway is a great little Brooklyn bar. Usually full of young locals. It's a great place to pregame with your friends before going out or if you want to just chill for the night. It's not the place you go to go dancing but it doesn't try to be. The inside is decorated like a trendy tropical hideaway. Lots of pink neon signage paired with a lot of foliage. There's even a picnic table with an umbrella inside. That's what I call commitment to a theme. There's also an outside garden for when it's warmer out. Happyfun is also super inexpensive! Drinks are so cheap compared to most NY bar standards. I don't think I have ever spent more than $20 there. They always have a $6 PBR and shot special going on making it a great place to pregame and save money before hitting up the rest of your bar list for the night. I can't forget to mention how nice the staff is. The bartender always makes sure he gets to serve everyone at the bar. Definitely hit up Happyfun Hideaway whenever you get the chance! read more

A group of us were in Bushwick visiting our two friends who were selling jewelry at the flea market on Charles Pl. We decided to have a drink and chat after they closed up shop for the day and the first bar we came across was Happyfun Hideaway. Atmosphere: Divey, but has a very cute back area. Service: Meh. Touch and go. Fare: The food is mediocre and overpriced. You basically have standard American concession snacks for a premium price. Unfortunately, I happened to be starving, so I ordered a corn dog, which took forever to be warmed up. When it was finally ready *and I saw the bartender take it out of the toaster oven*, he didn't bother to notify me even though I was at the table next to the bar. I had to go over and ask him about it. And well- it tasted like a frozen corn dog. Nothing special. The cocktails were much better- I had the dark and stormy, which was flavorful and strong. My friends stuck to the happy hour specials. One random cool thing that did happen while I was there: I had an interesting conversation with a skinny bloke who sat at the bar reading an Angela Davis book about the prion industrial complex. This is where the third star comes in because IMHO, it's technically a two star joint. :P read more

I'm a fan of this place. It's a gay, hipster bar with the crowd and ambiance to match. I'm certainly not a hipster, but I found it to be fun. Drinks are priced well and fair for the area and definitely a good change from the Manhattan gay bars. It's definitely a "hang out bar," not something you go to if you expect to dance. But I didn't dance that night and just got buzzed with my friends. The margaritas are good and STRONG. Didn't expect it, but I'm not complaining either. read more

Love this place and wished I lived closer! Chili Mango margarita and the Dark n Stormy are my favorites. Always cute and friendly bartenders and if you need a snack you have to get the frito pie, be sure to let it cool down first and don't drunkenly burn your mouth like I did - ha! I know that I can always come here for a great time with my partner and friend group. Very trans friendly! When the weather is nice, sitting in the backyard on a warm Summer night surrounded by other queer people is an amazing feeling. Please don't ever go anywhere Happyfun! read more

Gay bar? Since when? All I've seen here are bits of everybody from every background minus any yuppies. It's kinda weird and bizarre and dirty and that's what I want when it's Friday and I want to get wasted. Hell, it's more bizarre than bizarre and a much better spot for cheap drinks just a few blocks away. Love it. I'll probably add that last star after visiting a few times and seeing if there's anything amiss. read more

super friendly staff, nicely decorated and good music. my group came pretty early on a saturday, so we didn't experience a huge crowd. perfect for a chill pregame spot. read more

Good place if youre a guy looking to ditch his gf and met a science project. Good place if you're a gay guy looking for trade. Good place for non bigoted people in general. Cheap drinks, gets rowdy sometimes. Cute for weekdays, cute for weekends, the back yard is great, but closes at midnight read more

Happyfun Hideaway - Bar & snacks - Dive Bars Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I love this bar. It's trashy, divey, and has fun drinks, all whilst weird videos play from a projector onto the back wall. I've luckily only been here once where it was too crowded for my preferences. Usually when I go, it's not too crowded, so perhaps I'm just lucky whenever I go. Bartenders have also always been super friendly to me, so that's a definite plus in my book. Worth checking out if you happen to be in the area! read more

We walked into this bar by accident while looking for Birdy's (yeah yeah, I know, Birdy's has a big-ass neon sign outside, we're dumb yeah yeah). Typical dingy divey bar. But service was good and prices were decent. Beer and well-shot combo were $5-7 or something like that. Didn't have to wait long for our drinks either. PS: Heard it was a gay bar from a friend, but nothing gay about it. Disappointing. (j/k) read more

Cute little gay bar. It's laid back. As much dive vibe it gives off, people there in general are residents of the neighborhood that are catching up in their own little circles. I wish it were a little more relaxed than it is and it'd probably make me want to go back there more often. The bartenders are fine but it's hard to feel welcome when they huddle up in the corner amongst themselves. But maybe that's the theme? read more

This is my go to bar when I'm in Bushwick. Yes to the decor! Yes to the music! Yes to the yummy cocktails! They also have ginger beer (alcoholic), which is an all time favorite drink of mine. Their selections for what gets projected are always interesting and fun to watch. I always leave with new song titles to overplay at home and new movies to watch/recommend to friends! read more

I have spent over 16 hours trying to contact this bar to reverse the fraudulent $96 charge they put on my debit card last night in addition to the normal $15 charge for my two cocktails. happy fun used to me my safe space, but then the bartender proceeded to rip off the sticker i bought for my debit card (for fraud protection) off my actual card even though my card swiped fine with it on, and this special sticker i got for my card cost $15 and when i proceeded to tell the guy who gave me my mangled card back, he did absolutely nothing. never coming here again!!! read more

Showed bartender I had a moldy orange in my drink. She said "oh gross" and walked away.

Cute neighborhoody spot! Drinks arent expensive. Good selection of booze. Divey decor gives an @home, everyone welcomed kinda atmosphere

Ive been here before and had a good time but this experience i recently had (2 weeks ago?) was so bad i had to share my review... i came out because friends invited me as they were performing there that night... i got there around 2am and the bar was half full The bartender would not serve us..I dont know if they are racist or have something against black queer folk but the bar wasnt that crowded (it was a week night) and she would not look our way to give us a drink. normally i woulda walked right out.. but i was there to support my friends art and no racist bartender was gonna stop that. I waited and waited even moved close to the bartender and she would not serve. I asked my white friend to order our drinks and she IMMEDIATELY served them no questions asked...I never had this experience before there but this night left a bad taste in my mouth and we will not return as long as this person works there. the bartender was Asian and i was told her name is "Green" or "Gream" not sure of the exact spelling but if u are black and she serves ur drink make sure it presealed and not a mixed drink i got the vibes she would spit in it or worse. i would have spoke to a manager but i believe she is the manager so that says ALOT... I was introduced to this spot as a safe place for queer folk and POC but i guess due to gentrification in the area their mission has changed... this bartender named "Green" was really bad....maybe she didnt speak english? even so thats no excuse for treating queers/blacks as less than human anyway.. read more

Happyfun Hideaway was the perfect place for my boyfriend's surprise birthday party! The bar let me put balloons and steamers. Eli the bartender was so sweet. He got me a ladder and tape to decorate. He stored my cake and birthday supplies for me also! And then when it was time to blow candles, Simon another gentleman who worked there helped me get my cake and silverware for the birthday boy! Everyone was so awesome and accommodating! I had an amazing experience here! This was such a great place to gather all my friends! Just positive vibs and great drinks ! Friendliest bar staff in bushwick, some interesting cocktails and veggie snacks. I disagree that it's "hipster", there's a bunch more hipster places locally. It's just different and laid back. Has a yard out back and prices are reasonable too. Not the fanciest but definitely a good time. read more

Despite the oft-sticky tables, this place is a good neighborhood bar. I never notice the sticky but careful if you bring your particular boss here for a round! Ginger beer is in attendance, and solid cocktails. read more

Fellow Yelpers, I was very rudely removed from the premises by an extremely verbally aggressive middle aged man swearing blindly at me and driving my wife to tears. I had foolishly brought in an outside beverage but was looking to dispose of it and order a round of drinks for my friends. I was immediately expelled with expletives including being called a little f*ing demon! Reading fellow reviewers about the credit card fraud I'm pleased not to step in foot in here again. Decor was grim, smelt slightly of vomit, but good selection of beers. 1* read more

It's like a little kids druggie man cave. Love it! "The shadow" pinball starting Alec Baldwin might be my favorite part. Or the single draft kegerator. Emphasis on the no light beer. Also, a ROUS just flew by us in the back yard. read more

Fantastic low-key neighborhood hangout bar. Warm unpretentious ramshackle vibe, wonderfully strange selection of movies playing silently on a couple screens, super friendly bartenders (no surprise seeing as I think it's the same owners as Secret Project Robot), cheap drinks, tasty (vegetarian) snacks, cozy backyard with plenty of seating, a pinball machine, great eclectic not-too-loud music. Open nice and late (except Sunday, when they close at midnight). Crowd is mostly small groups of friends, pleasantly chatty loners, Silent Barn peeps having a meeting over drinks, that sort of thing. Really easy to meet people here. In short, my favorite Bushwick bar. If you see a guy with Waldo glasses and a big black beard working on his laptop (he'll be the only one there doing that, probably) and drinking Pacifico, come say hi. read more

(7/11/2019) Bartender was having a calm day and was really friendly. But I don't enjoy "rating people." :P A small, warm and cozy, janky bar that's different from the places around it. It's good to have a safe place in this city. Maybe it's more common than I think? I'm new here. I got two pina coladas from the bartender with the amazing eyes and wildcat print shirt. The salted nuts were also super satisfying. This was one of those moments that motivated me to move here from CA. read more

I literally only yelp when someone at an establishment is completely inhospitable. Really mean fellow with a beard just now didn't greet us, didn't respond when I said hi, huffed and directed me to read a chalk board when I asked what the specials were, shamed and lectured my friend for touching the outside of some decorative garnish receptacle when she was saying it was cute and asking what it is for, something she only did because she was nervously trying to break the ice of hostility and establish some kind of human rapport. In the end he asked what we would like but I asked his name first and he rolled his eyes and insisted that I just tell him what I would like. We got up and left. The bar next door was way nicer and cheaper and had really nice staff. read more
