Great portions! The chicken lo mein was delicious! The crab Rangoon had a lot of filling and was great as well.

    34. Chicken Fried Rice
    Jeff D.

I've been going to Happy Wok for my Chinese takeout for the better part of 5 years (it helps that I used to live there), and I've gotta say, they should win awards for consistent quality. In that entire time, I've been able to have such a uniform experience that I've been away for a year and a half and come back to EXACTLY what I've come to love about it. Since I've been going to Happy Wok, I've essentially only gotten two dishes: their Fried Rice and Lo Mein. Both are good but generally I float toward the Chicken Fried Rice, and even to this day if I'm going to have Chicken Fried Rice in Michigan, I'll do my best to find myself in Ann Arbor to arrange a pickup of Happy Wok Chicken Fried Rice. I'm pretty sure they have the usual fare that you'd expect from a Chinese restaurant, but seriously I stick to my guns once I find a dish I like. My one complaint is that even when ordering the dish "extra spicy", it still comes in under what I'd like as a spice enthusiast. Some basics: There's a good amount of parking in their strip-mall style parking lot (it's a one way, so just be mindful of that). Location is in a fairly convenient spot along Stadium on the west side of Ann Arbor as well. The physical footprint of the restaurant is on the smaller side, but you should easily be able to find seating for a small group (under 5). Usually the noodle/rice entrees can come in a small or large size; small is easily enough for one meal, and large is basically a meal for two people. All in all, I'd say Happy Wok is one Chinese restaurant in Ann Arbor you shouldn't skip, they excel at making quality meals quickly and consistently.

The only piece of feedback that I would give them is to be a bit more flexible to customer needs. When I ordered a dinner combination plate one night and wanted to substitute the egg roll for wonton egg drop soup, I wasn't allowed to. I emphasized I'm willing to pay extra but they responded that they couldn't because they wouldn't know how much to charge me...it was just one of those examples where it wasn't too big of an ask but they weren't open to the idea at all.

Mapo tofu - SO Salty it burns
    Grace K.

I'd rather eat Panda Express. The food was almost unedible for me, except the shrimp with mixed vegetables, which wasn't bad at all. We ordered some things for pickup, and the mapo tofu was SO SALTY it burned going down my throat (and it wasn't from the spices). The Chinese takeout boxes of rice were So teeny tiny I think it was made as a joke for dolls. Anywho, worst of all was the Sour and hot (spicy and sour?) soup that came with the combo meal that had a Bad Bad weird flavor - reminded me of feet/bad breath. Sorry, I have no other way to describe it.

    Avocado, cucumber, carrot veggie roll

Tried Happy Work because I had a GrubHub coupon. Definitely out of my norm, but had to spend over a certain dollar amount and wanted to try a couple things. I'll start by saying, prices are decent and there is a pretty big menu. The veggie spring roll is excellent. The only reasons why they are getting three stars instead of two. Veggie sushi is a hard pass. I've made veggie sushi rolls better at home. The rolls were mostly rice and pretty tasteless. I eat veggie rolls all the time and, although the price was great, not worth it. I was torn between the tofu and veggie with peanut sauce and the tofu red curry. I'm sad to say I opted for the curry. It's just "off". Not sure what kind of paste/seasoning was used, but it wasn't very good. There was a lot of tofu, which I appreciate, but not sure I'll be revisiting my leftovers.

We were able to call a few days prior so that they can make special side dishes that were Allergen friendly. We were celebrating our 13th anniversary and though I couldn't eat a lot of the special food When celebrating, everything still felt very special and the things that I could eat were absolutely phenomenal. I was very impressed. I would say this is a high 4, with one star down because even after talking to the manager and reminding the weight staff, the kitchen still brought me out two types of dairy with my appetizer, which led me to be a little paranoid the rest of the meal. After looking through the ingredient list which were provided promptly and graciously my trust was restored, but I always get a little bit nervous when it comes to allergies when I see that the staff in Kitchen and front staff are not communicating well. It was still a lovely meal, and I appreciate them going above and beyond to accommodate my allergens. I got the crabcake, surf and turf, a special request drink from the bar that was nonalcoholic, and a sorbet with fruit. I'm still dreaming about the crabcake and surf and turf. It was so good and cooked perfectly. I can't wait to try to re-create the crabcake at home. I was astounded at how delicious it was. I really enjoyed the fresh mango and strawberry in the salad that came out with a crabcake. Even though the crabcake sauce and the salad dressing both had dairy and were served with my appetizer, it was yummy without those sauces. It would've been nice if someone offered me an alternate sauce or had thought to tell me that they contain my allergy and I thought we were on the same page. I got a cherry limeade drink from the bar and it was very delicious. I don't normally get drinks but it was kind of fun to get something fruity and fun for a celebration. The bread was delicious and didn't contain the allergens so I was able to enjoy it without butter. I am not normally a sorbet girl and I probably wouldn't have normally ordered dessert here but since we were a celebrating, I wanted to try some thing sweet. I couldn't believe how good the sorbet was. It was a little rich, but it was so tasty. I think it would've been really excellent paired with a very light not overly sweet vanilla bean cake. It was so fruity and rich that it needed something to balance it out. I'm not complaining. It was excellent in a very nice end to the meal. Overall, 4.5 stars all of the stuff was lovely and it was nicely decorated for Christmas. Thank you so much for the lovely anniversary dinner!

The servers are not very friendly, helpful or welcoming. Service is very slow even on slow nights. No one seems to care either. Given the exceptional service at other restaurants it is a deterrent for returning. Drinks are reasonably priced and a good selection. For being scratch made they are not able to accommodate allergies well. Most things are marinated or prepped ahead. Besides Sushi or ordering plain noodles there isn't much I could order. My husband did enjoy the Burger and would order it again. I just wish there was more I could eat. For the Sushi its not anything outstanding. The flavor of the Crab Salad isn't our favorite. The Black Pearl Roll unfortunately, is not worth the pricing. $25 for a roll with mostly cucumber. It's also not very consistent in sizing. Once it was so large I could barely fit it in my mouth and the other times very small. If you plan to charge $25 for a Sushi Roll it should contain a good amount of Sushi. I can go across the street and get amazing Tuna Tartare for under $15 with plenty of Tuna.

We were pleased there was live piano music in the beautiful wood ceilinged dining room. Our server gave us a brief history of the Weber's restaurant and gave us time to produce the menu after delivering our drinks. We couldn't agree on any appetizers so we stuck with just the bread plate. There was a lovely salmon spread, and butter. Some of the bread was toasted with garlic butter and some was soft. I can't say the bread was the best part of the meal, my preference is for a crusty artisan loaf. Salads came with each of the entrees, although son doesn't eat salad he didn't order soup either. My husband and I ate all three salads. He ordered the Cobb, I had kale and the third was the house salad which was very pleasant with dried cranberries and raspberry vinaigrette. Both men ordered the 8 ounce filet mignon, medium rare, which came with carrots and mashed potatoes. The steaks were perfectly prepared. They let me taste a sliver and it was very tender! The carrots however were not very tender, and could have used a little more time on the heat. Son also ordered a side of roasted asparagus, it was perfect crisp tender and they left the bread crumbs in a dish on the side without even me asking. We didn't eat any of them! I ordered the miso sea bass, which had the same carrots but a side of butter soy sushi rice. I loved the sear on the fish, it was a very simple preparation that let the quality meat show through. The rice was delicious and I ate most my carrots. After slowly sipping my delicious large $20 Meiomi Pinot Noir through dinner, I developed a sweet tooth and attempted to order a creme brulee for dessert. The men were too full of bread, steak and multiple salads to have dessert. Our server warned us that there was only one creme brulee left earlier that evening, and they were likely out. Indeed, as requested she promptly brought the check without dessert. A chocolate pudding at home for me, oh well....we were all stuffed anyway! The quality of food is excellent at Weber's, and the service was on point. We did not feel rushed but because we didn't order multiple courses we were in and out pretty quickly. I think I would like savor the time better with a leisurely happy hour in the bar on a weekday next time.

Their salad was also really tasty (I got the lemon dressing one) and it comes with croutons that are just like the beignet bread but made in smaller sizes and slightly crispier.
