I called in my order for carry out. Service was super friendly overall! This place is pretty small. There are a few tables inside to sit down and eat. There was only one couple seated there when I picked up my food. I asked if they had the Trudy roll on the menu since I saw another Yelper post a pic of it. It wasn't on the menu, but they offered to make it for me without any hesitation. We also ordered the rainbow roll, French kiss and the fire roll. The rolls were huge! We ordered way too much. However they all actually tasted the same except for the Trudy roll being spicy due to the jalapenos. Surprisingly the spicy mayo didn't taste like anything either. Not too bad for Springfield. Springfield is lucky to have Happy Sushi, an unassuming, tiny strip-center hole-in-the-wall. We live in Cincinnati, a metro of some two million souls, and Cincinnati does have some better sushi than that offered at Happy Sushi. But not at more than two or three places, and you've got to pay the piper for the good stuff. In this price range, Happy Sushi is doing a fantastic job for a landlocked town in the middle of the Midwest, and a better job than any similarly-priced option that I know of in our town. Hiro, the proprietor, is a welcoming and cheerful host, and he is a far more meticulous sushi craftsman than the average in this price range. Everything we ordered looked beautiful and fussed-over. Just terrific-looking plates of food. Quite generously, he even sent out a couple of amuse bouches, or whatever you might call a free treat in a sushi place. The fish itself was fine, if not ocean-fresh or melt-in-your-mouth delicious, which I'm guessing would be impossible to deliver in this geographic location without charging a fortune. In short, two of us ate a good portion of quite-good, great-looking sushi and sashimi for right around 50 bucks, tax and tip included. I can confidently say I am so glad I found a good sushi spot in Springfield. Their rolls are tasty and stuffed with fish. You definitely get your money's worth. For rolls I got the spicy salmon, spicy tuna, the Hawaiian, and Anger Management roll. They even threw in a free delicious egg roll appetizer for waiting a little long for my food. All items were fantastic and incredibly satisfying. I really enjoyed the Anger Management roll for anyone who likes shrimp tempura and cream cheese or the Hawaiian roll for anyone who likes sweet poke bowls. The fish quality also truly surprised me. I sampled their tuna, salmon, white tuna, and red snapper nigiri. Considering it is located in Springfield, I walked in with low expectations but came out truly impressed with their quality. Happy sushi is on par with any good sushi restaurant in the Chicagoland area and is hands down the best sushi in Springfield. I am so thankful Happy Sushi exists to fulfill my sushi craving. You know how some Asian business owners can be outright rude be it a nail salon, a Chinese restaurant or such. Well, this is one of those places. As others have mentioned, this place is super small with barely 4 tables. I walked in prepared to do takeout and started ordering. The chef owner is sweating it out (literally) and getting what it appeared to be flabbergasted or overwhelmed by the ensuing line and waiting tables. In any event, I ordered a hand roll and the 12 piece sashimi combo which comes with a soup and salad and the chef jumps into say how that's not available for to go orders. One, the to go menu doesn't state that and two, if be happy to sit and eat but you don't have any tables available so why not just provide it with my order. Apparently that was too much ask and he kept harping how that was not possible. (And only 9 bucks) My second time I called ahead and ordered and sashimi sampler, 2 salmon rolls, a tuna roll and a philly roll with extra ginger and spicy mayo and that was around $36. I've gotten take out here about 3 times for lunch and it has been great every time. Sushi is great, service is quick and very friendly. Price is not bad. The neighborhood isn't the best but easy to get to from downtown or the east end on a lunch hour. There are 3 or 4 tables that you could dine in at - but it's definitely a take out place. Simply the best sushi in town. A hidden gem in a strip mall. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. But do not let appearances fool you- inside those doors you will find delicious sushi and friendly service. My husband and I generally visit Hiro and his staff once a week simply because it is just that good. Every dish has been absolutely fantastic from the rolls to the appetizers. Hiro puts so much skill and love into each plate. The eggrolls and spicy crab rolls are to die for but really the entire menu is just amazing. In many area restaurants, sushi rolls are rather small even if the feature multiple ingredients. At Happy Sushi, the rolls tend to be on the large size, so perhaps just order one or two on your first outing. Seating is very limited with only 7 tables in the entire restaurant. Carry-out is something we definitely take advantage of and the to-go presentation is just as lovely as dine-in. As corny as it sounds, we are always happy when dining at Happy Sushi. read more

They had a table set up for pick up to maintain social distances and sanitized the pen used to sign receipts.
