All the food we had was amazing. The Pad See Ew was some of the best I've had. The honey chicken was very good--not soggy at all, and it still had a nice crisp to it. The honey wasn't overpowering and added great flavor. The Crazy Noodle was also very good and had excellent flavor. The service was great--the lady who helped us was so nice. I did a carry-out order over the phone so I can't speak to the eat-in service, but carry-out was super fast and the food was delicious!! I got the Vietnamese curry noodles with tofu. There was just the right amount of lettuce to noodles and the flavor of the curry was great! The sauce that came with it was delicious, too, and the lime was a refreshing touch. The ambiance inside was peaceful and quiet even for the amount of people eating in for lunch. The decor was nice, too, and checking out was very simple. Highly recommend! read more

I was in a couple times about 2 weeks ago. Both times, they made errors in my order, putting things in that I could not eat per dietary restrictions I shared and they said they could accommodate. The second time was a carry-out order, and I called and asked them to refund or deliver a new one. The restaurant is 5 minutes away from my work, but I could not get out of work. They were difficult with me on the phone, saying they could remake it the next day and could not deliver. When I asked for a refund, they finally agreed. Then, 15 minutes later, they called me and said they couldn't refund but they would deliver. At this point, I had ordered other food. I asked for a gift card, and they said no. Finally, I agreed to come pick it up for dinner. They said they'd put an appetizer in as a courtesy, and when I showed up to pick up my meal, they said they wouldn't because the appetizer I ordered earlier was fine. As well as repeatedly insisted that they gave my friend what I ordered (clearly not true, as his had chicken in it and I was ordering vegan). Before this, I was a regular customer, but I just can't risk it with my diet. The bad service only made it much worse. Never again. read more

This place is the best. I feel like fried rice, pad tai etc tend to taste the same no matter where you get it. Mekong dishes seem to have their own unique flavor, and they are just really really good. Crab Rangoon are the best in town. Perfect cream cheese to wonton ratio so that you're not left with all that extra crunch with no filling (hate that). We live close, but if Mekong were across town, I would go out of my way to get it! Bonus- they are incredibly friendly. It stood out to me how kind the man was who took my order, despite how busy he clearly was. We will be back! read more

I can't say enough great things about Mekong Cafe, the food is great and always on point with flavor, portion and price. Ordered the chicken LoMein for lunch last week and was very pleased with the dish. Excellent flavor and (medium) heat, very good all around. Also ordered pork fried rice (both orders were carry out) and was asked how spicy I wanted the dish. That's a nice option for fried rice. Mekong appears to be a store front, short order Vietnamese restaurant right near downtown. My wife is reluctant to try Vietnamese restaurants in the Midwest from some lackluster meals in the past, but she was desperate for a big bowl of something simmering, so we took the plunge, and were pleasantly surprised. Things didn't start the best with our spring rolls. Limp veg and noodles that were slightly mushy. Wife is selective when it comes to soups. She ordered the lemongrass soup. Her eyes lit up after the first sip, and she emptied the bowl. Said it was some of the best she has had. I had a mushroom dish with shrimp. Clearly a cut above the Chinese takeout joints. Some care and skill went into the dish, and some fresh, crisp herbs and vegetables. Parking is limited and not the most convenient, but well worth the hassle. Mekong does a booming lunch business, so expect a crowd. Prices very reasonable and service excellent. read more

Small place, but excellent service--we only waited around 15-20 minutes. The basil fried rice was nice and crispy but also not too oily, which was nice, and the pad thai wasnt overly sweet like most places tend to do. The crazy noodles are what I recommend the most--you can taste the fire in the dish which was wonderful. The noodles for both the pad thai and crazy noodles werent overcooked at all--i commend the kitchen for them cooking it perfectly so that it wasnt soggy at all. It also wasnt overly oily, but just enough that it was slightly crispy but still soft. I would recommend doing medium spice--the full spice is a bit hard to handle if you are a little intolerant but the medium does leave a nice warm sensation that doesnt leave you gasping for water. We are relatively new to Springfield and enjoy trying different restaurants. The reviews I have seen about Mekong have generally been great so I was looking forward to it. We went about 1 on a Friday. We were expecting to see a lunch menu and lunch prices. There was no separate lunch menu and the prices were higher than I expected so that was a bit of a downer. My gf ordered spring rolls which were a little bit pricy. She's a bit fussy so hers were made fresh. They weren't tightly rolled so kind of fell apart on the way to her mouth. I ordered the crab Rangoon which all reviews raved about. They were good, hot but also overrated. We eat at every Thai restaurant we can, by the way, so I'm not just a curmudgeon. My gf ordered Crazy Noodles aka Drunken Noodles aka Pad Kee Mau. She liked the flavor but complained that the noodles were over cooked. I thought it was great and look forward to eating her leftovers. I had the Mekong Beef. I cleaned my plate. Overall, I had a good experience. Staff was pleasant, it's clean. When paying my bill the cashier was taking a phone order and when he told them how much it was they canceled the order so I don't think I'm off base about the prices. I'll be back but only after we've tried all the other Thai restaurants in town. read more

Food was very mediocre and overpriced. The portions are tiny. I ordered a spring roll and pho. Spring roll was very small, it only came with 2 pieces, and I was charged $ 6.75, a rip off. Then the pho, they charged premium price of almost 13 dollars, and it was very much a rip off. Barely any meat, noodles, and all soup, which was obviously made with instant broth. Extremely tasty Thai food with flavors from the Laos region! This was my first time & I had the green curry dish with chicken & coconut milk. The sauce was incredibly flavorful and savory, not over sweetened like many local Thai dishes. My main complaint & the reason this review isn't getting 5 stars is because the service could have been much better. I understand it was a weekday lunch rush & that tasty dishes take some time, but it shouldn't really take that much for the staff to have given a smile or a quick table touch, especially given the wait time. Also, pretty sure we were overcharged, so watch for up charges or mistakes when paying at the counter! read more

I really wanted to try any ethnic food in Springfield. I knew that LIttle Saigon on Wabash but on my way to it I saw this place's sign kind of inconspicuously hanging off a nondescript building. After twice circling the place looking for parking I walked in to a quiet, modest little place with one guy sitting there. The menu is a fairly small mix of Thai and Vietnamese, the sign also says Laotian food, but I don't know if it's authentic or not. I ordered the Pho and a Thai iced tea, the tea was okay, served in an extremely tall glass, but stuffed with ice; tasty nonetheless. The Pho was surprisingly good, spiced a little more than I was used to but tasty. I asked for more meatballs, but the guy said he didn't have any, but did offer me more meat. I think that I know enough about Pho to say that it was served the popular way, with hoisin sauce served on the side to dip the meat in. I like to squirt in the hoisin and the siracha straight into the broth. I didn't go with the siracha because the chiles they served with it were spicy enough! I ordered a second Thai iced tea. All in all, it's a good place, I mentioned that I live in Chicago and the owner/cook said it might not be as good as the Pho in Chicago, but it would give a couple places a run for their money there. A solid 3.5 for sure and worth a repeat visit. read more

I was looking for somewhere to get some spicy Thai soup. Reviews for this restaurant looked promising. I placed a pickup order of the lemongrass soup (medium spice + chicken) and red curry (also medium spice and with chicken). The lemongrass soup was flavorful. There was a lot of chicken and mushrooms, as well as a lot of bay leaves and lemon grass to filter out. The portion size for the curry was huge! I had enough for 2 servings. They provided rice with the curry as well as another additional box of rice. The curry was flavorful and had lots of vegetables. The location is easy to miss since there is no big sign to look for. I was in town on business and was hungry for Thai. Well, this was a great find! I had the lemongrass soup (extra hot) and it was fabulous! Very flavorful, very filling and very spicy (and it can be ordered mild, as well). This dish would be great for cold season! I ordered the Thai egg rolls, which are small, thin and very crispy. Price was very reasonable and the place was clean and friendly. When I return to Springfield, I will definitely stop in. read more
