Came here on a weekday evening around 8:30PM, it closes at 9PM but I asked whether we could sit outside at the tables and they left two chairs out for us. We sat inside first and then moved outside after they closed. I saw puff cream but wasn't sure what puff cream was, so I asked and was given a sample to try; it's made of cream and pudding, quite thick. I got the ube milk tea with taro puff cream and taro balls, but they had run out of taro balls which I was sad about but switched to grass jelly. I've heard of Happy Lemon, just never walked in one and had their milk teas until today, 4/3/2019. I had the orange mango milk tea w/ boba. Very interesting. There were little orange peel pieces inside I think? Well, next time I will order less of that, because it felt like a weird texture, but still OK to drink. The taste of the milk tea, was very good though. A little on the sweeter side, so next time I will ask for a little less sweet. My husband had the Oreo milk tea. I tried his, and it was really weird. Not used to a Oreo milk tea. He thought it was an interesting/weird taste too. Good to try once though. The atmosphere is a very cute setting. They have lemons in the front, because obviously, it's called Happy Lemon. LOL They have a cute tip jar, not hard to miss. Bright lights for signage. Almost everything is yellow, just like lemons. Update: I believe Happy Lemon Newark heard out the advices and reviews here and I am glad to say they have improved and their drinks taste delicious!! Happy lemon is always me go to boba place as their tea quality, toppings, and flavors always stay consistent and fresh each time. This location has very good service and the staff are nice. They offer a decent amount of seating for 2-3 groups. I always order a strawberry green tea with aloe Vera; the strawberry blended with the tea gives it a very fresh and taste that is not too overwhelming. Their boba's texture is stays consistent through the many times I ordered; not too soft and not too chewy. There was plenty of parking and we were here to waste time before our movie started. I think there were a few others inside but a lot of seats and tables available. I always get the lemon tea tho since their lemons are fresh from Taiwan. I took a star off of this review since this location is suppose to close at 9pm but if you arrive at 8:55pm, they won't take your order cause the girls who work there want to get off early you can tell when a boba shop is a chain store and have hired employees who work there like this one vs the other ones who are mom/pop owned (they'll still take your order if you arrive after 9pm). So I'm going to average my reviews here after coming 4-5 times already. Most of the times I would give this place a 4 for their good quality drinks and service but I've come a few times where this place deserves nothing better than a 1 star. The good: I've ordered the strawberry green tea and the Cheese Foam on top which was delicious. I honestly like it on the side because I usually transport it home and it always gets all mixed in by the time I'm home. They do a really good job packaging it for me. The Bad: A few times I've been here they've been extremely short handed and slow with orders. I went on a Saturday when they first opened and there was literally 1 poor girl at the register taking orders then going to make all of the orders herself. One other customer who got there before it opened, left because it took so long to get his order in. There was another employee in the back doing literally nothing and the girl in the front asked him "can you please help me make some of the orders" and looked at her and went back to the kitchen doing nothing. Horrible service and that guy needs to be fired or at least talked to. Overall, inconsistent service. Pretty good drinks but higher price range $5-6. Drinks are also inconsistent. Efficiency isn't a problem with drinks coming out at a reasonable pace and the cups are wiped clean of any residual moisture. For my first visit, I chose the Oreo milk tea at 75% sweetness and with less ice. It tasted just as it was described: creamy, sweet, and full of Oreo goodness. It is a bit of a bummer though that the Oreo pieces do stick to the side of the cup. All in all, Happy Lemon emulates what real boba success looks like. The store wasn't busy but for some reason, the cashier kept saying "grapefruit lemon slushy" when I said I wanted a chocolate waffle. She had asked me twice and I kept saying chocolate waffle.
