Great vibes, great spot to grab boba after a meal. The interior had such a cute vibe. There's a wall that has happy in all types of languages. We went post dinner Saturday evening and they had waffle bites as samples. A pleasant surprise we got to try when ordering our drinks. I was so surprised by such a chewy texture. Happy lemon is a well known chain but I think it can vary based on the manager, the manager for this location is really cool and I have seen them donate to local groups like teachers/firefighters which is awesome. This location also has trivia night every Tuesday which me and my friends frequent, they give out prizes for free drinks/waffles! First time swinging by Happy Lemon because I saw on Instagram there was a Genshin collab. It's pretty spacious inside with ample seating. The kitchen area is wide open so you can see how tidy the counter space and working area is. The drink has some jelly on the inside and I believe they said it was oolong tea. I ordered 70% sugar which is definitely sweet enough. Hand for size comparison for the egg waffle picture-- it was made on the spot and warm and fluffy!! Good drinks but drinks are not always consistent. My favorites are mango matcha smoothie and roasted okinawa milk tea with boba. Mango matcha used to be very good with generous mango jam and strong matcha. Most recently, the mango was way less and matcha wasn't that strong so it tasted more like an earthy milk with a hint of mango. I'm sure they have a fixed recipe but I guess different employees scoop them in different portion. Roasted Okinawa milk tea is aromatic with brown sugar and pairs very well with chewy boba. If you get this drink, try to finish it in one seating. If you put it in the fridge, you will see balls of milk or cream formed in the drink the next day. They used to have the mango and orange milk tea which was very very good but unfortunately it discontinued. Pricing is also higher than other chains like Sharetea, 85 degree, etc, so I would only come when they have promotions and only go for the drinks that other places don't have, like mango matcha smoothie and roasted okinawa milk tea with boba. The space is nice and clean, good for gathering or casual date nights, sometimes it can be loud for studying or working. I got the Jasmine Green Tea with cheese foam. It was decent and I'm glad I didn't adjust the sugar level as everything was cohesive with one another and wasn't too sweet or bland. I'm so glad that Happy Lemon opened up not to far from my neighborhood. Before my visit, I have never heard on the name and thought it was just a place that sold Lemonade or something along those lines. You can't go wrong with their milk tea drinks, just make sure to adjust your sweetness level. I found that 100% normal sugar levels in their drinks were too sweet for me, so I usually order 50% or lower. I love the taste and texture of their mango boba. I had it in their Ube salted cheese milk tea drink which I thought was an odd combination but it surprisingly went well together. The service is quick and staff friendly. They allowed me to taste their salted cheese as it was knew to me and I didn't want to fully commit. The atmosphere itself can be quite noisy as it seems to be super busy the times I have visited which are usually peak times (after dinner). I'm by no means an expert in bubble tea, but living in North Austin means I've for many years had access to a wide selection of options before the shops began to proliferate throughout the city. I've had my neighborhood favorite on Parmer Lane since 2010 (you know the one with "tea" at the start of the name), but now we have a new import contender with a menu unlike any other in town. Meet Happy Lemon, the first location in Austin of a Taiwanese franchise with more than 60 stores across the U.S.. Apparently, they had their Austin grand opening just a few days ago, with lines of boba fans waiting for up to 2 hours to get a taste and some swag. Lucky me, I waltzed in at lunchtime on a Wednesday and found no line at all. Having zero experience with Taiwanese "salted cheese drinks," I was keen to try something new, and it was awesome to not have a long wait ahead of me. I decided to go with my usual matcha milk tea with boba and 25% sugar, with the added novelty of a tiramisu salted cheese topping. The cup is structured so that you remove the adorable lemon head stopper and drink, which allows the creamy topping to sort of coat the tilted cup while you sip, getting just the right ratio of tea to cream in each mouthful. I didn't receive a straw, so I'm not sure how you're supposed to get to your boba; I just ate those later at home with a spoon. According to the internet, the "cheese" is really a mixture of cream cheese, whipped cream, milk, and a dash of rock salt, so it's not as weird as you might imagine. My take on the drink I ordered? It was an interesting experience, but overall, a bit rich for me. If you are looking for a milkshake-like dessert and have no concerns with calorie intake, this may be a perfect treat for you. Afterward, I did some web sleuthing and found an old article ranking all the Happy Lemon drinks and the reviewers there recommended pairing the regular salted cheese with the matcha latte, so maybe I'll try that combo in the future. Another highly recommended pairing for people with "salty snacker" palates like mine is the plain brewed black tea and the original salted cheese topping. The bubble waffle, on the other hand, was very familiar to me, and Happy Lemon did not disappoint. The warm waffle was light and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. When dipped into the puff cream, it makes the perfect not-too-sweet pastry treat. I would really like to have this with a hot coffee, but alas, no coffee is served here... The rest of the menu includes some fruit teas, slushies, smoothies, and typical assorted tea shop toppings. There are also non-dairy, non-caffeine options. Lastly, you can get your daily dose of probiotics with the Yakult drink selections. When my friends told me there's another Boba like spot in Austin, my first thoughts were...okay so what makes this one stand out? Well upon inspection of the menu and taking the first sip, no doubt this one stands out from the others in such a savory and tasty concoction that I would easily come back for more. Food: Alright so it may surprise you, like me, that one of their standouts isn't just Lemon...but a drink with Cheese. That's right cheese. This was my first time trying it and it added an interesting twist to the otherwise sweet drink. For the salty cheese drinks, there is a sip hole on the lid, in addition to the straw hole. Their drinks are so fun, refreshing, and delicious. They have a big variety of toppings you can choose from, including egg pudding, fresh taro chunks, fresh fruit chunks, and taro balls. I also tried their bubble waffle which was also so tasty, with the perfect mochi-like consistency. They are located in a plaza so lots of parking available in the shared lot. This is our favorite boba shop in the area! The taro smoothies here are delicious! I ask for them to go light on the puff cream and they always accomodate. My daughter and husband love the strawberry shortcake smoothie. This one doesn't come with boba, but you can add it in. They will let you split cup the order for either 50cents or a dollar. This works for my son and I, as we split the taro smoothie. We then have room for a delicious bubble waffle and some puff cream to dip it in. Perfectly indulgent combo. I went during grand opening and despite the really long wait, I think the team did a really good job managing the crowd. Overall, they were doing an efficient job and should not be judged based on wait times during grand opening. Drinks: they had a bogo deal going on so I got to try a few. The mango matcha was surprisingly good and had a nice balance between the two flavors. If you prefer more of a matcha flavor, you might not enjoy it too much. The same can be said with banana matcha. The boba milk tea with puff cream was good but I'm not sure what the different between the puff cream versus salted cheese since the cream was a bit salty too but more thick like custard. I love happy lemon! Been here three or four times now, and drink quality is consistent. (Boba quality, tho, has been a hit or miss.) Their milk drinks are too sweet for my taste, but toning things down to 59% or 75% works for me. Their lemon drinks are probably good at full or 75%. I tried one at 50% and it was super tart lol. Waffles are good every time. My favorite flavor is the chocolate, then Oreo, then original. I haven't tried to other to gotten the dipping sauce yet. It was very cold outside, so I was delighted with the warmth inside. The tote bag for the first 100 people in line is very cute!
