Thank goodness for new management ! The food was always amazing but the management and service of the previous owners was horrible! If I could give the new store / management 10 stars I would! Delicious , flavorful food! New updated menus with pictures! Sauces made on site! The staff is friendlier than the last, and more helpful! We will definitely be coming more often now that it has changed owners ! read more

Why did we wait so long to try this place? Am sweating like it's a Korean heat wave! Try the spicy squid! Everything we tried was amazing and super quick!! Staff was friendly and accommodating to special requests (and explanations of menu items). The Happy House truly does deliver...you leave full and happy. Will DEFINITELY be back! Is worth going off the beaten path to find this gem. read more

Venue: Looks like it was maybe in a previous diner, but the counter has been removed. Very clean and spacious. Plenty of parking. Vittles: The menu is full of various options, ranging from things most people know, like bibimbap, to other dishes with which you can familiarize yourself. They also offer the complimentary side dishes. We had the bibimbap and kimchee jigue. My partner declared the latter the best he has had. Plenty of beer options and other drinks to order. I didn't notice if they had hard liquor. Verdict: Would I go back? Possibly. The food was good enough to warrant it, but I've had other Korean restaurants in other cities that are just as good but far less expensive. Our total bill was $48 during lunch on a Saturday for the two aforementioned items, plus two beers. read more

Happy House - Must try!! - Korean Near Me - Augusta, Georgia

Here in Augusta, it is difficult to find Asian food besides your typical Chinese restaurant. For that reason, I give this place a 5 for not only their originality but also for their good service and excellent quality of food. I've had Korean BBQ in California before and this restaurant is the closest thing to that which you can get here in Augusta. The food always comes out hot and freshly prepared. If you ever need more rice or side items such as kimchi, they gladly give you more at no extra cost and without you even asking. The only thing this place lacks is a good atmosphere. The florescent lights make it pretty stark inside and the place looks like it used to be some other type of restaurant at first. It would not be a place where you'd go on a first date, but maybe on a second or third. As far as price, it's a bit steep here. For two people to eat without getting drinks, it cost about $35. However, if you're looking for something different and delicious, it is worth the price! read more

Happy House - Bulgogi to-go - Korean Near Me - Augusta, Georgia

Soooooooo good! Asian food craving fixed with a visit to happy house. We ordered four dishes but the star was the Haemul Jjim (spicy goodness with bean sprouts, greens, onions, mussels, octopus, shirmp, whole crabs, seafood feast) it says for two but will definitely feed 4 for sure! You can see it in my picture, and coming in a close second best dish was the hot pot (spicy tofu with seafood and greens) so yummy. I took the leftovers home and plan to add ramen to the spicy tofu soup! I'm happy to have this choice in Augusta to eat at! read more

Overall score: 5 Atmosphere/Ambiance The place is always a family atmosphere. I notice people of all ages when I walk in there every time. Cleanliness 5 The restaurant is always well maintained Service 5 The staff is always friendly. Feels like visiting some aunts and uncles. They will walk you through the menu and the different levels of HOT (please understand their levels of HOT, you might not be ready for...WARNING) Food 5 All of the food was delicious. Always hot and fresh. We visit when we need consistency in our outings. All meals come with complimentary kimchi. Chicken Bulgogi: (pieces of chicken, onions, carrots, covered with a spicy red sauce) Bibimbap: (Rice, veggies, fried egg, in a hot clay pot) Best authentic Korean spot in town! 4 happy stars for me. We arrived around 8 on a Saturday night and was greeted with a big smile and was quickly seated. I really like that there's a pic for every item on the menu. It helps to know what your meal would look like since most of us eat with our eyes first. Our dishes came out very soon after ordering. The food smelled good and was very spicy and hot. The only thing for my husband and I was that we had to salt our food for taste. This could be relative, but that's our consensus. Overall great experience. Will definitely go back to try another item on the menu. read more

Bad Customer Service! I frequently visit this restaurant and have been for years. However, today as I walked into this restaurant to dine-in. I asked one of the servers can I sit at this particular table located at the front of the restaurant by the window ( this is my favorite table, and no other customer was in the restaurant). She said." no," because they disinfected the table. I asked, well can I wait since I was in no rush and no other customer was in the restaurant. She said "no" a second time and tried to sit me at another table. I told her I would just order to go, but I started thinking and asked to speak to the manager. One of the servers said she was the manager( by the way, these two servers are twins and caucasian). I said, well, let me speak to the owner ( "manager" went to the kitchen area of the restaurant) and came back with the phone in hand. The owner was on the phone ( I explained to her what happened and told her the table should be dry by now she said she wasn't there I reminded her I was the African American (AA) that comes each week and has been coming for years and her restaurant is in an AA community -I asked her to make the decision). I told them I understood Covid guidelines, and they saw I was wearing a mask, and by now, the table was dry. She (owner) went with her servers, and the server hung up the phone. Meanwhile, another African American customer came in and heard my conversation and said nothing. I asked the server can I order to go, and she said no because I was yelling. I told the servers it was disheartening because I come to the restaurant frequently, and they both have served me. They acknowledged they have previously served me, and I left the restaurant. The other AA customer also left the restaurant and did not order. He stopped my car and informed me the servers said I was yelling, and he said no, that is not true. Ultimately the other AA customer and I went down the street and ordered Korean food from the Golden Garden restaurant ( 3253 Deans Bridge Rd). The bottom line, the servers (twins) did not exhibit customer service skills, so I am writing this review and should be mindful of the negative perception on ALL customers. read more

My mom and I were looking for some Korean around the Augusta area, and this place showed up on Yelp. The building is tiny and looks really shabby from the outside, and the inside isn't that much better. However, there were a good amount of people dining--some were even Korean--and we came around 2pm, so I'm guessing it's popular during the peak hours. Because of the unassuming decor and the presence of what seems like regular patrons, I was hoping the food would be very authentic. We got the jjampong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and kimchi fried rice. The food came out with the banchan and it was pretty good, and the portions are astronomically huge. Heed my words: you WILL come home with leftovers, and the leftovers will be substantial. So even though each entree was about $12-15, Happy House is generous and you get more than what you paid for. What makes this place get two less stars is the wait. HOLY GOODNESS, the wait is so bad. After we put in our orders, the food took at least 30 minutes to come out, I am not even kidding. What makes it even worse is that they didn't even give us the banchan (the little side dishes) until our main course came out, so we had nothing to hold us over while they were preparing the food. I kept stealing desperate glances every time the server would leave the kitchen, hoping to see her coming with our food. I must have done that at least 10 times. You would think that since they took so long, the food would be ungodly delicious, but that wasn't the case at all: just your standard Korean food. So, don't come here if you're in a hurry, or if you're starving. read more

Sooooo gooood!!!! We ate everything up. Can't wait to go back and try the other items on the menu. Even my 2 year old was enjoying it.

This use to be my go to restaurant but havent been in a while since the new owner took over. I'm half korean so I know authentic korean food and this was not it. Food was overpriced, bland, smaller portions than before, and even the pork bulgogi had chunks of bone still in. It all tasted water downed and cheap. My korean mother and her entire community refuse to go there and that should tell you something. Would never recommend this place to anyone ever again until it changes owners again. Only positive, the staff was friendly. read more

Happy House is the exact reason why I take pictures of food, spotlighting a local restaurant that otherwise gets no social media attention. But thanks to a good driend last night, I had the pleasure of getting to experience this local food destination located on deans bridge rd right down the road from another Augusta icon, villa europa. The food was cooked to perfection in front of our eyes and the table overflowing with fish, ramen and every side dish your heart could desire. If you're wondering where to go for dinner anytime soon, skyrocket this restaurant to the top of your list. Don't be afraid to ask questions and try something new! You may just end up with a whole perfectly cooked fish at your table. read more

Amazing Korean food and very nice customer service! The place is small but still cute

We come in for a waffle and scramble bowl ,After.wd sat ourselves down at the only clean table. 2 young girls came and the elderly woman working cleaned a table for them got their order and then decided to get ours. Servrd our drinks and never seen her come back to table. A young waitress brought our food 20 minutes later. The temperature is 42 outside and raining Yet they have air conditioning blowing hard inside . It was blowing directly down on our table which made it miserable to enjoy our meal . This caused us to get up and leave not eating most of the meal . Still.had to stand and wait to pay .while you freeze inside because colder inside then is outside .. read more

What a weird and waaay over priced "Korean" experience. On an extended visit from Brooklyn, NY, originally from Seoul, SK; came here based on Google reccomendations. Eating here was like eating Korean if you don't know what Korean is. Gimbap wasn't rolled in Nori, hence the name "Gim", it was small little reverse rice "sushi" with bits of bulgogi meat and some veggies. Tteokbokki was weird too. Sauce and rice cakes tasted exactly like the frozen Yopokki except they added fish cakes and cabbage. Jajangmyeon did have a generous portion of noodles but was primarily comprised of oil, some black bean paste, alot of chopped cabbage/ onion and a little bit of pork. Dwaeji Kalbi was exactly what it actually is Pork Belly (generous portions too) but listed description and pricing is Pork Rib. Now Pork Belly does come from near the Rib area but from the fatty lower end like where cheaper Bacon comes from but based on the menu pricing/description someone could be led to believe "Pork Rib" is from the Spare or Back. A little discretionary disclosure should be clarified. Tea was definitely Oksusu cha or Bori cha, which is commonly used in Korean households, but not House or Jasmine as the customer would be led to believe. Oksusu and Bori are heavy diuretics and again should be disclosed. Service was just as weird. One waitress was supremely nice and was balancing multiple tables. While the other was supremely snarky spending most of her time in the kitchen or at the register. Ethnic food is in short supply here but if you have the option for home cooking or even a little hotpot in your hotel do yourself a favor. Go to the Asian market, get the ingredients or even frozen and for the love of fried chicken just do a quick Youtube how to video. Save your money and your time. Oh and the Kimchi was BAD. Not fermented. At. All. The rest of the Banchan were okay. read more

This review has been a long time coming. Everyone leaves Happy House happy! I love this place so much! It's my go to Korean restaurant in Augusta. The ladies that work there are some of the sweetest people on the planet. They make you feel like you're right at home. The food is also very very good! I love the bulgogi, yakimondo, and bimbap. They bring kim chi sides for whole table and it's basically bottomless. Pro tip: ask for more rice before asking for a takeout container to avoid a charge. read more

Coming here I was a little skeptical because the roads that are around the restaurant are a little rough, but it was amazing there! Food was delicious, service was fantastic. The meal came with banchan and rice and they were really nice with refilling the dishes. We ordered the LA kalbi and spicy squid. If you can handle the spice of Kimchi then you can handle the spice of the squid dish. The beef was full of flavor and very tender. Portions were big enough for two in my opinion, the waitress even gave me options on how to reheat/recook the squid since I had leftovers. She suggested not to microwave and instead mix it with the rice and stir fry to create a spicy squid fried rice. I never had any problems with the food, but the restaurant has a terrible odor that smells like a sewage pipe broke right in the restaurant. This has prevented me from going back again. read more

A friend and I went to Augusta to visit the Cabela's Outpost and we are both Korean Food fans having served in Korea while in the military, so we had to try some local fare. We settled on the Happy House and found the setting to be OK and the server was exceptionally nice. The prices were a great deal higher then those found in Columbia SC but the food was pretty good and we tried the barley tea and we both found it to be tasty. I had the Spicy Chicken Bulgogi and the chicken was tender spiced nicely, my friend had the Beef Bulgogi and he was not as satisfied with his. The portions were large but there only six kimchi bowl and we are accustomed to receiving 12 at our place in Columbia. All in all it was a good experience but a bit too overpriced in my opinion. read more

I forgot to take pictures but this place was okay. The Bimbap wasn't made correctly since the seaweed suppose to go on the outside not the inside. The taste of the food was alright. We had three things and it was $50. It was a little too pricy for me. read more

The 1 lady that was cooking our BBQ at the table was rude and mean!! Best food I've had in a long while, service is great but you're gonna wait a while for your food! At least you know it's FRESH!

Hubby had the bibimpap with tofu and I had the Soon Doo Boo noodle soup with clams. They came with about 6 or 7 small appetizers of pickled radishes, Cole slaw, kimchi, bean sprouts, cooked potatoes and carrots and something else were cannot remember. But everything was really tasty. We also had the barley tea. Everything was really hot and flavorful with the right amount of spiciness (as per what we had requested). Would definitely come back to try other dishes. read more

One word covering the overall experience: WOW!! A large group of us (12+ people) came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. With a group our size, reservations were made and the owners put together a large table in a private room. The servers were spot-on all night! They were seamless and it was better service than I've experienced at other restaurants when there was only 2 of us. I ordered the Korean version of chicken fried rice and it is the best I've ever had. In addition, a variety of traditional Korean tasters came with the meal, including mung bean sprouts, kimchi, spicy cucumbers, potato jorim, spinach namul, spicy radish salad. It was an impressive spread of food. The chef even came out to ensure we were all satisfied with our dishes. With a group so large, they were thoughtful enough to run each check individually based upon who you ordered and then ran my husband and my checks under one credit card swipe. This saved a lot of time. We were enjoying our time so much that we didn't realize how late it had gotten. Even though we were there 30 minutes past closing time, we never felt rushed or pushed out the door. It is restaurant that could easily be missed if driving by, but it is a restaurant not to be missed! read more

I used to enjoy eating here but I think they changed their cook/chef because the food tastes so Americanized. How does Americanized food taste? Full of saccharine. If you don't know what saccharine is, it's a super cheap form of man-made sugar/sweetening. How do I know their food tastes too sugary for no reason? Their spicy Yuk-hae-jang is waaay to sweet instead of borderline spicy. I was filling water because of how disgustingly sweet this non-sweet dish tasted. Also, it's very pricey. Compared to Korean restaurants from around here and Northern VA, their food is 2-4 more dollars than it needs to be. read more

I had been looking for a go-to place for delicious, Korean food here in Augusta, and am so happy to have found Happy House! Like it's name, the restaurant does a great job of making guests feel right at home, ready for a home cooked meal! There is also plenty of ban chan, varying spice level, and large portions. While the restaurant decor is not fancy, and more similar to a cafeteria, it's a great place to bring groups of friends or for a solo meal. read more

This is the third korean restaurant i've tried in Augusta GA... I had the regular 20.00 Kalbi plate. It Was pretty tasty. A little on the thin cut side, but it was enough to get stuffed. They do charge about 5 bucks more than I would usually pay for that meal elsewhere, but we we were celebrating so it didn't matter. The char on the meat made it great. Surprisingly not too greasy. The banchan (assorted pickled veggies and such) was varied and delicious. I was impressed with the quality of food. The Kimchee was fresh, crunchy and alive so to say... Nothing was too salty or sour. We went on a weekday and were the only customers at 6pm. The ambience is more suited for lunch than dinner. They have a lot of beautiful green plants hanging everywhere that they manage to keep alive especially during this cold nasty season. I think the owners were the ones who cooked and served us, husband and wife team. I was happy that they were speaking Korean to me, almost like it was a test to see if I was one of them so they didn't have to ask lol. I was sad to read an earlier review where some Korean person came here with a group and had a poor experience. I am Korean and these people were very kind and attentive to myself and my husband. They gave us extra rice and banchan no problem. I don't believe these people are racist against Koreans. I am a Korean food snob, I have had it from Hawaii, to Cali, to Nevada, to Texas, to here...even Minnesota. I have tasted family styles and restaurant styles and this place is a mix of both. Everything is clean and tidy. Well lit and close to where I live. This is my new spot. This place is simple and chill, they have tasty food and they seem like good people, I will definitely be coming here on the reg. I will pay the extra mark up I don't care, worth it. Oh before I go, they have a refrigerator by the register with a bunch of different banchan, kimchees... Dried fish... You name it, they sell it probably. And my all time favorite which might gross some people out but it's delicious.. Ojinguh Jut!!! Marinated pickled squid! It was super spicy and made my breath stink for 2 days. Mmmmm. My hub is not a Kimchee lover and he despised my breathing around him, but i could give a damn! Even after brushing my teeth about ten times the garlic and gochujang never went away lol. I was in heaven though eating squid and rice. Thanks happy house. This truly was a happy experience! read more

I actually came by today but it didn't look like the place was opened at all. I'll have to try again next time.

Once again, I conjured up the wizard that is Yelp and took a chance with the top rated restaurant listed for great eats at lunch. This is how came to discover Happy House, and, just like the name implies, I left gorged on delicious Korean food and, for lack of a better word, happy. I have only limited experience with Korean cuisine, but I do have some favorites that I tend to home in on. I started with the fried meat dumplings, which turned out to be a *much* more generous appetizer than I could have anticipated! 12 crispy, hot dumplings were presented to me for a sacrificial mastication of mass proportions by me. Mind you that they don't tell you how many you get when you order, so be sure to bring friends if you get this! Piping hot, delicious with just the right amount of crunch and served with a necessarily cooler soy sauce for dipping. You won't go wrong with this one! For the main course, I ordered the beef bul bim bop. A sizzling hot stone pot full of kimchi, rice, beef, spinach, seaweed, sesame seed...all topped with a fried egg...greeted me about 8 dumplings into my appetizer. Served with sriracha sauce and kimchi sides, this was a great, fun dish that did not disappoint. Flavors were nicely balanced throughout with a wonderful surprise layer of crispy rice at the bottom of the pot, freshly fried while I ate my way through the upper strata of this feast in a pot. I'd definitely get this again! And, yes, I did manage to finish almost all of it. :-) Excellent overall with a swift staff in a simply appointed location. Loved it! read more

Delicious! Clean restaurant and friendly staff. Ordered: Seafood Ramen Soup ($11.99), Korean Ribs ($24.99). The soup was on point! A perfect blend of flavor and spice! It comes with a small dish of rice. The order comes with the usual accompaniments on the side with that of Korean BBQ. A bit pricey. read more

So thankful we were able to find good Korean food here in Augusta! The service is amazing and friendly and the wait time is near nothing. The place is very clean and conveniently located. Asked for level 4 spicy but I believe I was given level 6. I have high tolerance on spicy food but the food I got today is beyond spicy made me a bit of uncomfortable. Been to Seoul several times in the past and I have to admit the food here is delicious. I only ordered the take out today, the place is bit of sketchy and it smells bad inside- but I don't see ppl inside got bothered... but I did, so I stepped out and wait. The price compare to big city is a bit too much for Korean food. Averagely $3 more on each dish- probably because not many competition in town. Overall I recommend it and this will be the only place whenever I want some Korean in Augusta area. read more

This restaurant is located in a small house looking place on the side of the road. There's plenty of parking in a lot behind the building. The inside and outside don't look like much and it's a super casual feel but the food is where it shines. My boyfriend and I shared an order or spicy squid/octopus, bulgogi, and ramen with dumplings. I would say pass on the ramen as it tasted just like shin instant ramen but the squid and bulgogi were good! The servers were also so nice and friendly. Overall it was a great meal for when you're craving authentic Asian food in Athens. I'll definitely be back! read more

Amazing food and very clean. The staff was very friendly and explained the dishes and made recommendations. We got the bok um and the bolgogi, both very tasty.
