I often visit Augusta for work and usually accompany my Korean colleagues from Korea. They usually want to eat authentic Korean food. Anyone who knows the Augusta area knows that there aren't that many authentic Korean restaurants outside of Asian fusions. I was recommended this place by one of my customers who is Korean American. The place isn't in the greatest of neighborhoods but that did not deter us from visiting this place. From its facade, you cannot picture a Korean restaurant. As soon as you step inside the door, you definitely can't mistake that your at a Korean restaurant. From the smells, to the menu to the older Korean ladies working, this definitely feels like an authentic Korean establishment. The dishes served are very traditional like bulgogi and galbi as well as mackerel and cham pong soup. They serve all the appetizers you'd expect from an authentic Korean restaurant. Upon presentation of the entree, you are overwhelmed with all the side dishes on the table. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a Korean spot in Augusta. Lastly, this is a hot spot for the US military to have a quick meal. The place caters to our service people by prioritizing their meals due to their limited lunch times they are given. I would give this place 5 stars if it were a bit bigger as it does not accommodate all but ~50 people at any given time. This would suffice for some time during the day but it suffers during lunchtime when there is a lot of people who want to eat and either not enough space OR wait times for food are long because they are catering to all the people with limited staff! read more

I was craving Korean and my choices were between this restaurant and another one that was closer. I chose to go to this one because it had more reviews. Which turned out to be a terrible decision. On arrival there was one occupied table, this was two hours before closing. I picked my table, sat and was quickly greeted. I asked for a sweet tea, no sweet tea. I asked for a coke and they brought out a can with a glass filled with ice which means I'll have to pay for any additional cola. The food was okay, nothing to run home about. I ordered the Bul Go Ki along with Shumai as an appetizer. The Shumai was terribly small and you get 6 pieces for 5.99, ouch. The Bul Go Ki was tasty and came with 6 sides which were meh, they do refill the sides for you, not sure if there was any additional charges for that. The service was good but again, that should be expected if there was only one other occupied table. The kicker is that they do not accept AMEX, the only establishment out of 20+ I've been to in Augusta that doesn't, makes it a pain if you are traveling for work. Next time I'm in Augusta I'll try out the other Korean spot as everything that this one doesn't offer, they do. read more

This janky little shack is a gem for Augusta. Definitely the best Korean spot in my opinion compared to all the others in the area. I'm giving it five stars due to the fact that I leave extremely full and satisfied every time. My favorite dishes to order are the crispy seaweed rolls, mandu, AND the yuk gae jang made very spicy. Mmmm! They've remained consistent even after new ownership and management. However, there are things they can absolutely improve on. Service is usually friendly. They can be really slow sometimes especially if you're coming in with a big party so beware. There was also a young guy working there who made my dining experience extremely uncomfortable and awkward on two separate occasions. Prices are a bit on the expensive side when you're comparing the same dishes to those in much bigger cities such as Atlanta or San Jose so that's kind of annoying. I want to start off by saying that these prices make me feel like I've been robbed. I literally paid $10 for yukgaejang last week in Duluth and came to Augusta having to pay $16.99?? The prices in New York don't even cost this much. I understand there's much less competition in this area, but that is ridiculous. *some menu photos are old and prices are higher now Anyways, I ordered to go because they close at 9pm. We placed our order around 8:15pm and it took about 25 minutes for our order to be ready (we would've never been able to finish before 9). I ordered 2 yukgaejang for $16.99 each and an order of spicy squid for $17.99. Food: the yukgaejang was on the sweet side for me, not as savory as I like. I would say it's plentiful, but I've also never ordered this to go and I didn't pour it out of the container. The yukgaejang has some shredded beef, green onions, eggs, noodles, and a few pieces of gosari (tastes similar to dried mushrooms). Overall, not bad, but I will not pay almost $19 for it again. My friend really enjoyed her spicy squid and said it was plentiful, however, it had a really strong fishy smell - it came with plenty of zucchini and carrots. read more

I use Yelp for everything. I trust Yelp. Whether I go to someplace with 2 stars or someplace with 4, my impressions are usually pretty in line with the overall reviews. If this had been my first Yelp experience, I would never use the service again. I do NOT understand how this place is rated as high as it is. Please read on. I've eaten at Korean restaurants all over Korea and in the United States. I really like Korean food. You can generally judge a Korean place by its Bulgogi and by its Kimchi. These are solid benchmarks. Here the bulgogi, which should be a star, a point of pride, was bland. How bland? It tasted like it was boiled in water until every bit of the flavor leeched out. I've had bulgogi where it looked like it was cold cut roast beef stirred in some generic Korean barbeque sauce and plopped on a plate... And this was worse. No flavor at all. They bring it out lukewarm on a cast iron skillet that's also lukewarm, so it's just for presentation. Anyway my wife and I both ordered it (because to share it would cost an extra $9 according to the menu) at $18 a plate. Eighteen friggin dollars. Each. Epically NOT worth it. I'm so disappointed. We also ordered a kim bob, which was okay. Nothing special, but okay. And it didn't come with wasabi which I thought was weird, but instead a spiced soy sauce that wasn't bad. Just different. Then the kimchi you get on the side... It tasted canned. Straight up. Not very spicy either. Honestly the stuff you get in jars at the supermarket is better. The service was okay, the place was clean, and overall I would have rated this place about 3 stars and just not gone back, but the cost. Good lord. $60 for two people after the 15% tip. Unbelievable. I feel ripped off. I feel like Yelp let me down for the first time ever. We could have got a nice hibachi dinner for that. The local place that delivers Korean here is twice as good and half the price. So yeah. One star. It was earned. Don't go here. The food is middle of the road at best, the cost is ridiculous. I have come here for several years, I have fond memories here, but I will never be back. I originally asked if they could do chicken bulgogi instead of beef for the lunch special (chicken bulgogi is on the menu), and they said no. Okay. No big deal. Then I ask for jap chae but without beef in it. Again no. I've gotten jap chae at other Korean places without beef in it (dietary restrictions). So, now, I'm annoyed. But, whatever. Still hungry and I know they have good food, so we went for the seafood pancake. They brought one small dipping sauce not even halfway full in the sauce bowl. The seafood pancake was being shared, so we asked if we could have an extra small sauce bowl. And guess what they said? Just take a guess. They said no. Only one sauce per seafood pancake. A sauce. Not even the offer of at a price, just a flat "no." This lack of accommodation is just unacceptable for a business, especially during a pandemic. Absolutely ridiculous. To top it off, management didn't care at all. It's not even about the lack of food accommodation, but a sauce? Really? It's just a sauce! *Food Poisoning * My husband and I got food poisoning after eating here yesterday (29 June 2021). This was our first and last meal of the day. We ordered to-go "Gool Bee". Later that night we both were so sick we visited the emergency room. Next morning, we called the restaurant and explained the situation only asking for a refund. They asked that we brang paperwork from the doctor stating it was food poisoning. (Which we had) After arriving at the restaurant, the man which appeared to be the ower was extremely rude stating that this has never happened here and kept giving excuses as if we tried to make this up to get a simple refund which I thought was a small price to pay for food poisoning. They took photos of our paperwork from our doctor which we felt uncontrollable with seeing how it contained our personal information. This was our first time at this restaurant an felt no support from the employees nor the owner, doubting our illness that was proven by our doctor as fact. what a shame... Im korean and I know how running a local business is tough, especially Immigrater. That's why I wanted to understandable, simple solution. I wouldn't say it's fair cause I only* asked for a refund. We never asked for medical fees or pain an suffering. I think we were too kind about the situation. The next time we ever experience a situation like this, we're turning to a lawyer. The way the owner treated us was less than disgusting just like their food. Finally got the chance to come here last night with my book club. They were very accommodating to a crowd. Thought there would be eight people and they already had the table set up for it. There ended up only being five and they did not make a fuss. The place ended up getting crowded by the time we left around 8. Chiming in with everyone else, this area is not the best by any means and I hope they don't lose business because of that. Now onto the food, they brought what looked like pickled cucumbers and kimchi initially and then when the meals came they brought out spinach, pickled daikon radishes, some type of noodles and they were all delicious. I think I picked way too much at them because I barely ate any of my meal. I told her I wanted it at a medium spice level and it still came with some heat but the spicy squid was so delicious. I ate an entire thing of rice just to soak up the sauce and ended up bringing a second thing of rice for my leftovers. This will not be my last time here. Solid place to get some Korean food. Definitely off the beaten path - even my friend who knew this place passed the restaurant and had to turn around. It's on the main road (look for the bright LED lights), but if you miss the turn in, you're going to spend an extra few minutes getting back to where you need to. The parking in the front/side lot was all taken up on Friday night around 645pm, but there was plenty of space in the back lot, though it's a bit darker and creepy looking. As you walk up, you can smell the spices and the oil...a good sign. We ordered a few apps and entrees. The veggie pancake was huge, basically the size of a pizza. They give you a bunch of kimchi and other little snacks on the side. I really liked that and it was fun to try a few new things. I will be back. First timer post! When we arrived at the restaurant you can smell all the goodness from outside so I was sure it would be a great dining experience. The place is small, but authentic. My eating companion and I started off with egg stew and the seafood pancake and our entrees followed behind shortly afterwards. Everything was delivered pretty quick! I was pretty sad that I ordered a noodle dish, but it was the wrong picture on the menu and I ended up with something totally different. I was so looking forward to dining in at Happy House because the last time I was here I totally enjoyed my experience. This time my experience was totally different, quite the opposite in fact. I was dining with my daughter and we ordered the bulgogi Chicken, and also pork among other things. Halfway through the pork dish we noticed there was hair in the pork dish. The waitress watched as my daughter was putting the food on her plate and saw as the hair was being pulled out. I then waved for the waitress to come over and showed her and she took it back to the kitchen, when she returned she immediately told us that it was neither of the people's hair at the restaurant insinuating that we put the hair in the food. There was also another patron who was onlooking and saw the whole incident and made a comment about how they don't wear hair nets in the kitchen. At this point, I knew that I was through with this restaurant, never again will you see our faces there again. I don't care who's hair it was, whether from the front or the back, but this I do know, "it came out of your kitchen " . We never asked for anything, but could have at least received a simple apology for the incident. Shame on you!!! read more

I went here with a some friends on a Saturday night. It's one of those hole in the wall places and the people there are really nice. They do take phone-in orders before you come in because they have to prepare the foods so that's nice to know its fresh. My one friend got a soup with beef bones I believe and broth was amazing. It's home cooked authentic Korean food, who can complain? My other friends got an order of their galbi and it was plenty of meat. It's served in a hot plate so u can't really grill it yourself in front of you like those hotpot places. I got their spicy seafood noodles! For one person, this dish can feed the whole table. I love bul go gi so this is now my go to spot. It is on the opposite side of town, but I don't mind making the drive for Happy House. Vittles: The menu is full of various options, ranging from things most people know, like bibimbap, to other dishes with which you can familiarize yourself. They also offer the complimentary side dishes. We had the bibimbap and kimchee jigue. My partner declared the latter the best he has had. Plenty of beer options and other drinks to order. I didn't notice if they had hard liquor. Verdict: Would I go back? Possibly. The food was good enough to warrant it, but I've had other Korean restaurants in other cities that are just as good but far less expensive. We ordered four dishes but the star was the Haemul Jjim (spicy goodness with bean sprouts, greens, onions, mussels, octopus, shirmp, whole crabs, seafood feast) it says for two but will definitely feed 4 for sure!
