Solid 4 star experience. I got an array of dishes to ensure I had a good sense of the food offered. I got sesame chicken, chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and a mango milk tea. The sesame chicken was not good, the chicken wasn't bad quality and it wasn't fried poorly. The sauce was just bland, very very bland. The fried rice was very good, had lots of veggies and chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was a let down as well. I've never had sweet and sour that was more tangy than sweet, definitely not what I expected. The mango milk tea was delicious and I will be back for that alone! Prices overall were fair, I'm willing to go back to try other stuff. read more

We have been eating take-out once or twice monthly from Happy Garden in Shorewood (Excelsior) for years, under several owners. Food is generally very good, stick to your favorites. I like the egg foo young and cooked-to-order house chow mein with add-ins, husband likes the house fried rice and the Szechuan egg rolls. Great Chinese takeout or eat-in experience for Chanhassen, Excelsior, Chaska, and Shorewood! Such a great location. I loved that we could look at the menu online, then called to order. When we arrived, I was surprised about how "eat in" friendly it was! Most takeout places are small and dirty (in my experience). This restaurant actually makes you wish you planned to eat there instead of taking it home! It appears to be family run, too, which I love. We got the tangerine chicken since our kids love orange chicken. They said it was better than any orange chicken they've ever had. High praise! I had the tofu with broccoli appetizer as my meal and some of the complimentary white rice from the tangerine chicken. It was just right and full of flavor. Even better, it's a great value. What a hidden gem! We stopped by for a late lunch and were immediately seated. The staff were abundantly friendly and the service was top notch. The variety of the menu really ensured everyone has something that fits their taste. The food was fresh, delicious, and the portions were just right. They're in the process of updating the prices on their menu, but I felt like they were very reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is so welcoming, I can't imagine not returning. We found our new favorite Chinese food spot. Bonus points too because the kids meal is like 10$, and was a healthy mix of food, not just chicken and sweet and sour sauce. Decent Chinese for a way out suburban Chinese food restaurant. I usually like ordering online to make sure the order is correct on our side and theirs. However last time I ordered online from Happy Garden, I noted it routed through a China POS website. When I saw that, I'll be avoiding this way to order in the future. We visited Happy Garden II for the first time last night and we were very pleased with the quality and sheer amount of food. The food was very clean and not super salty. I had the egg drop soup, and it was very good, as well as cashew chicken. Everything was home-made. We will certainly return. We had more than enough food for leftovers as well. Happy Garden II is one of a few Chinese restaurants in the Chanhassen area. We've ordered takeout multiple times, mostly wonton soup and a chicken and vegetable dish. Over time the prices have increased and the quality of the offerings has varied from very good to disappointing. As a family-run business it's hard to believe that Happy Garden II is experiencing the same staffing issues other, larger restaurants are experiencing. So, it's hard to accept the wide variations in the quality of the food. After our most recent experience, which was mediocre, I think we'll be looking elsewhere when we get a craving for Chinese. I've been to this place twice now (both times for lunch). The lunch special is solid and comes with an entree, choice of white or fried rice and then you get to pick between an eggroll or cream cheese wontons. I would say this spot curbs the craving but isn't anything I would write home about. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars because there aren't many Chinese restaurants in this area to choose from so I appreciate them being here! The order is always prompt (done earlier than they say), they are extremely accommodating and polite, and overall this matches what I would expect for Chinese takeout. Portion sizes are pretty good and reasonably priced. Big fans of the General Tso Chicken, Sesame Chicken, House Lo Mein, Beef and Broccoli, and their Egg Rolls. Some dishes are not as good as others, but we have not found a dish that we absolutely wouldn't order again. Big parking lot and very easy to get in and out. Definitely check it out! read more

It is NOT a run-of-the-mill, everything fried hole in the wall...though their Crab Rangoon's were really good. , We lived in China for years, and while they have a ton of American-Chinese food (Pinapple Chicken, Mongolian Beef etc), where they are from in China makes their menu incredibly robust. All Hong Kong style dishes are here...even Stemed Pork Bun （烧包）。 They also have a really good northern China selection of Noodles, Dumplings etc. And, CHECK OUT THESE SPRING ROLLS! I just moved back here from Seattle where the Asian Cuisine is extraordinary, so it is impossible for me, at this point, to leave more than 3 stars for the quality of this Asian Cuisine. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it's just not the quality and taste I'm used to. That being said, in a pinch, we will probably order from here again. It's close, and it's somewhat decently priced. But if I'm a bit more to the East, I will always choose to go to Dragon Jade in Glen Lake, over coming here. It's really just proximity that makes this place returnable. We ordered chicken lomein. It was a bit dry & had almost zero veggies (a couple shoe string carrots and a dash of cabbage it seemed.) And if you want actual veggies in it, you have to pay $2.00 per veggie which makes this not very flavorful dish really expensive, really fast. We also ordered General Tsao's Chicken. Whatever we got was fine, but I can 100% guarantee it wasn't what General Tsao's Chicken is. It had zero spice, which one of the main flavoring ingredients is supposed to be red chili peppers... the menu says "two peppers" on the spicy level, but seriously, no, no spice to it whatsoever. We won't eat that again. But the pictures of the Mongolian Beef, here on Yelp, look maybe okay. Oh yeah, and $4.50 is a pretty okay price for egg rolls, and the egg rolls were just fine, but they were much smaller than the ones we usually get from Dragon Jade, they cost more here for smaller portions. They allowed me to sub white rice for the fried rice and I appreciated that they were able to put my sauce on the side. Egg roll was a little bland. Disappointing compared to previous experiences. We used to go to happy garden II regularly, when we were in the area. I was excited to get it more often when I moved closer 2 years ago, but what used to be extremely well done and delicious has become humdrum boring run of the mill cheap Chinese food. After my last order, where it was not great, I waited months before giving them another try, but it's gone further downhill. The pros: online ordering is very well done. The people arent rude, but not overly friendly either but since I got takeout, interaction is limited. The order was accurate, and ready in a timely manner, hot and special directions were followed (no plasticware, no extra packets of soy or mustard, so nothing needed to be thrown away). The food is edible, not burned and not raw. The cons: The egg rolls were so oily I had to wrap them in a napkin to draw off the extra. Unfortunately, they were so incredibly bland and tasteless, they definitely weren't worth the calories. Fried dumplings were also very oily, but their bigger problem was the dough wrappers were incredibly thick and gummy, and combined with the bland filling, also not worth the calories. The dipping sauce was pretty good though. A little spicy (which I love but rarely find anymore) but could have used a bit more vinegar and onions. i hadn't eaten much else that day and I almost never get edema from salt usage, but that evening, my ankles swelled up alarmingly, so I can only blame that food. The next day I tried the moo goo gai pan (reheated, obviously). Again, edible, but not as great as it used to be. The chicken was nicely silkened, and not over cooked, but the flavor of the sauce was stodgy and while this may be an unusual complaint, there was way too much chicken and not enough vegetables (like maybe 75% or more chicken). And again, swelled ankles from msg and/or salt. The last time I ordered from there (several months to a year ago), the generals chicken was dry, and also without much broccoli or sauce, and doughy dumplings. I'd hoped it was just a bad day for the cook, but alas, it seems not. So, while the food is edible and on par with a lot of other Chinese take out places, it's gone so down hill from the incredible food they used to have, it's not worth driving past 2 other edible places closer to home that don't make my ankles swell up. read more
