Came here for dinner. The ambiance is good and enjoyable. The service is attentive and pay attention to your need. The food comes out pretty quickly i'd say within 10-15 minutes on a busy night. The dishes were all well cooked, seasoned well, and fresh. But, the food can be quite greasy. It's like they pour tons of oil into the dish and serve to you. i'd suggest to filter most of the oil before serving to the customer. No kidding, pls look at my pictures, can see the oil at every dish. I'd suggest if the restaurant wants to improve quality, then it should filter most of the oil before serving to the customer. My two cents...

黑商 They are out here to get to scam money. Tried to give us extra dishes. And when they gave the wrong one near the END of our meal we said we didn't need it anymore. They proceed to make it again to add it at the very end. And just said "ohhhh sorry I didn't hear u". Really tried to give us extra dishes. We saw u mess up two years ago when u overbooked your takeout orders and dine in. We also personally experienced when you didn't wash your bowl and my grandma drank from your bowl with LIPSTICK STAINS on it. I don't know about others but clearly there's something wrong with your business to be letting all these mishaps happen and continue to fuck your way around with customers. Clearly you have absolutely no respect for your customers and forgive me for being harsh but you deserve no business and I pray for your timely bankruptcy. * Sorry for the rant, got REALLY triggered by their business methods

Solid 3, maybe 3.5 Stars for this visit. After reading some horrific reviews (mostly for takeout), I was hesitant to come to this restaurant. But someone invited us, so it wasn't my choice. lol For our first visit, there was 5 of us dining. Service was very good; food was ok. Maybe it was what we ordered; so I would definitely be willing to come back to try some of their other menu items. What I liked about this restaurant was that it was very low-keyed; not like the crazy busy and loud restaurants in Flushing. Our menu choices: - Tofu w.snow pea pods & mushroom: the waiter suggested we order this so we said ok. Not sure why this was recommended, since it was kind of boring and bland. (And expensive at $20.95!) - Snow pea shoots with preserved egg: this dish was ok; pretty standard; not really bursting with flavor though. - Whole Crispy Garlic Chicken: this was pretty good. A wedge of lemon would have made a world of difference. In hindsight, we should have requested some lemon. - Cumin Lamb Chops (6pcs): These were pretty good but would have been great if the meat were more seared to bring out the flavors. Also, the cumin flavors were super mild; bolder flavors and a good sear would have made this an outstanding dish. - Crispy Fried Flounder: hands down this was the fave dish of the night! Great flavor and nicely crispy without being overcooked Outstanding dish! Like I said, I would be willing to revisit this restaurant the next time we're looking for a Cantonese restaurant outside of Flushing. Maybe next time it will be worthy of 4 Stars!

Great Cantonese food. It's great to see many of the staffers here from the old Tung Yi Fung that used to be on 37th Ave in Flushing. I'm not 100% sure why the old stalwart closed down but given the pressures of COVID and the expansive footprint of the old restaurant, it just wasn't sustainable in the current climate of the pandemic. Happy Garden has far less sit down tables but the food actually is better seasoned then it ever was before. All my Cantonese favorites, as they were before, the salt and pepper & Peking pork chops, fried flounder, casseroles, and noodles. The one exception is the T-Bone steak which is quite frankly the wrong item to order in a Cantonese restaurant. The prices may be higher that your local generic Chinese takeout joint so if that's what your looking for, you should stay away. Happy Garden is definitely part of my new rotation of eats going forward. If there is one con, and I can see how it could be a huge detriment, it is the fact that the wait time for food can be maddening. With a smaller restaurant, I'm sure the kitchen is probably appropriately sized as well. There have been a few times when the wait has been tough but hey, it's 2021-2022 and we're still in a pandemic, load up on some patience before visiting if you want something tasty.

4 stars not for the dim sum, but for the stir fry dishes from the kitchen. Honestly, management was up front and told us the dim sum is not very good at the moment. They are transitioning to a new dim sum vendor and we should taste improvement in another week of this posting. The dim sum was pretty bland and can only be salvaged with heaps of hot sauce to masquerade or better impart some flavor. There is no cart service for dim sum since there is limited room between table spacing. The stir fry dishes from the kitchen were excellent though. The "Wok Hei" or better known as the "The Breath of the Wok" was plentiful as the satay beef vermicelli casserole and chicken haw fun was savory and delicious. The smokiness of the wok made it's way to the seared chicken and haw fun, a beautiful sight for the eyes, olfactory senses and palate. There are two private party rooms available. One room has one table and seats 14. The other room has two tables and looks like it can seat up to 25 people. Hopefully, the dim sum evolves and gets better with the new dim sun vendor. I'm looking forward to try the "newly improved" dim sum real soon.

If you were familiar with Good Kitchen Seafood Restaurant (or Tung Yi Fung) in Flushing, then you would enjoy Happy Garden Bayside. There are some familiar faces here, too. I have not tried the dim sum yet, but heard that there isn't as much variety as you would expect. I stopped in for dinner on a weeknight and was not disappointed. Great portion sizes and everything was tasty and well seasoned. We ordered the Sizzling Pepper Steak, Seafood Tofu Casserole and the Cantonese Ginger Scallion Lobster. I would definitely go back for dinner to try some of my old TYF favorites and the dim sum.

Pan-Fried Flounder after being deboned

My parents like to go here to sit down to eat which is a sign that the food is good. I've gotten takeout and have sat down and will attest that the food when dining in is infinitely better than getting takeout. Anything fried or sautéed will end up soggy by the time you get back home to eat it. Pan-Fried Flounder was fried well and you're able to eat all the bones except for some of the inner bones which they take out. Would stick with getting lobsters by themselves or over noodles as the sticky rice version had the lobsters over cooked and stuck to the shells. I can confirm the service is not the greatest as you have to not only flag down a waiter to do anything (order/get refills on tea/get the check) or else they will completely ignore your table. And even if you were to wave at a waiter down you have to be assertive enough while doing it or they will still ignore you. One night was particularly busy and we asked to disregard a twin lobster over noodles dish that we had ordered so we could leave as we had already been waiting on it for 20ish minutes after all the other dishes that came out earlier had been finished. The waiter said to just wait a little bit and it would come out. So we waited for another 15 minutes and again asked for the check and got the same response. So stupidly we waited longer to be nice as we assumed maybe they had already started making it and when nothing came we had enough and told him to get check which he brought it, still had the item that never came as part of the bill. Would recommend going if you're desperate for good Cantonese food but be warned to not expect good service. If it's a near a holiday would recommend getting a reservation or they'll turn you away or have you wait for at least an hour.

Even though I saw 2 1/2 stars for Happy Garden, I've been in this game long enough to know that if you're savvy in doing your research, you can still find good restaurants despite the questionable rating. This is why I decided to give Happy Garden a try. For all you Yelpers, be discerning and examine where all these 1 star reviews are coming from, which explains everything. Happy Garden is conveniently located on a busy part of Bell Boulevard with a plethora of restaurant choices. It's one of the very few genuine Cantonese restaurants in the area with a full menu of Cantonese specialty items. Judging from what I saw on the menu, it's a great option for a full Cantonese dinner. We went on a Saturday afternoon. The waiters greeted us and we were quickly seated. What caught my eye immediately were the Cantonese specialty dishes which were pictured on one side of the dining room wall. These dishes were mainly seafood, yet the prices seemed very reasonable. The dining room itself was very bright, with white textured walls. I loved the instant energy it seemed to give the room. The menu is a two-sided card with section divided into the usual seafood, soup, pork, chicken and beef sections. What caught our eye especially, were two sections. A Jiangnan Style Special section of the menu, and a "Three Dishes with Soup" section where you could order three family-style entrees with white rice for $41.95. Because I usually have difficulty settling on one or two entrees, I thought $42 was a decent price for a variety of dishes. Jiangnan will have to wait. For appetizers, we ordered the soup dumplings. They also gave us bowls of hot and sour soup. The three mains were a chicken salted fish and tofu casserole, salt pepper pork and salt pepper squid. We also wanted to try a noodle dish and ordered a pan fried Cantonese mei fun. Every dish we got was standard good Cantonese fare. The mei fun was chock full of a variety of meats. Surprisingly, the one dish that wasn't Cantonese, the soup dumplings, was surprisingly good. There's only 5 to an order, but I could tell that they were made from scratch. Overall, I liked our first experience at Happy Garden. The prices weren't in the high 20's which many Cantonese places are these days. There should always be a mid-tier Cantonese option in my book and to me, this is the place.

Fresh n light ginger scallion ten lobster. Good Peking pork chop. Reasonable portions. Definitely will return to try other dishes.

Cantonese cuisine fairly decent...especially since Bayside has a relative dearth of classic Chinese restaurants. We sat down, ordered and had to wait a whole hour before any food came. Even though it was Saturday night, they were way too short staffed. Not fair to us and all the people waiting to eat and waiting so long to get food. Also waiter was rude and brusque. Also beware of food substitutes-- they may've run out of your dish and will try to mix/match some substitute components. Just make sure you get what you order to minimize confusion when the bill comes and some items cost more while others cost less. They tried to offer us lobster noodle dish- we vehemently said no. Also the seafood roll with conch was out and they instead gave us tofu w conch (but they gave us extra conch and were charging us more than standing tofu w conch meal) The food was decent. The wait time was unreal. We were so upset. Plus the waiter was arguing and extremely rude to us. What a shame to have this type of restaurant ruined by the service

Walnut shrimp

Had a great experience for a late Saturday dinner. There were familiar faces from the former team at Tung Yi Fung restaurant in Flushing. We ordered our typical Cantonese dishes such as crispy skin chicken with garlic, peking pork chops, walnut shrimp, pea shoot leaves sauteed in garlic and oil, clams with black bean sauce and twin lobsters in scallion ginger sauce. Everything was tasty. Glad to see another reliable option for Cantonese food outside of Flushing.

Receipt of what we ordered
Kenneth P.

Services was unacceptable we came in for lunch after party of five and was the first customers. After ordering a family came in and they received food before our appetizers came out. The service was poor and the price didn't match the quality of food. We will not come back with all the other options in our neighborhood.

We were sad to hear this but also very excited for the new things that Mama Lee will have on the menu! We were happy we got to try her food one last time and it didn't disappoint as usual. We've probably tried everything on her stir fry menu and it's all delicious. Plus, she offers a complimentary generous serving of rice and water bottles. While we were waiting, another 3 people walk in and had to wait till the time the lady gave us our orders then to take their order. The only reason I came here was because it was the first one on the list when i clicked yelp and saw it was Taiwanese food so thought to try since it was on our way to our destination. I must give credit to the lady running the whole store by herself from taking orders to cooking, greeting, serving, preparing and ect. Her order is huge too as you can see in my photos.

Crispy outside with packed filling. Scallion pancake: $4.90 not as crispy as above. Generous portion. Family meal combo $52.00: 3 dishes , white rice and soup. We had: Pork chop Peking style: crispy deep fried pork chop coated with sweet abd sour sauce. A favorite for kids. Chunk chicken Taiwan: a casserole dish with enough heat. Very flavorful. It's a hearted heavier seasoned dish. Braided pork belly: another casserole dish with heat. Full of wok chi (wok heat). Sauce is more heavily seasoned. It's a fatty meat due to pork belly. Overall we are satisfied. It's a good quiet neighborhood restaurant which has been opened for at least 10 years. Service was good. Food service time was quick. Parking is easy in the evening. There are three things we absolutely love about Bell Garden:…read more 1. The food is seriously GOOD. 2. The value is unbeatable. 3. They accept credit cards! My wife and I order from Bell Garden almost weekly, and we are always satisfied. What impresses me most is their consistency with the dishes we usually order. Their quality never seems to drop, and every order tastes just as good as the last. Bell Garden can be a dine-in restaurant if you're eating alone, but it is primarily a takeout spot. We usually order by phone or online, and our usual order is the egg fu yong with roast pork (char siu), Singapore chow mei fun, and chicken chow mei fun. And let me tell you about the portions. The egg fu yong comes with THREE omelettes! Both chow mei fun dishes are packed so generously that you can practically get two separate meals out of each container, and they are loaded with ingredients. Everything is seasoned really well without being overpowering. We recently tried the chicken with broccoli for our toddler. It is usually a very basic and simple dish but MY GOSH. It was so well seasoned and flavorful that I was literally fighting my toddler over her own food. That says something! For the price, portion sizes, food quality, and consistency, it is honestly hard to find another Chinese restaurant that does it quite like Bell Garden. And one more thing that deserves a shoutout: they were OPEN during the recent blizzard AND during the current nor'easter rain! Seriously, if you are looking for delicious, generous Chinese takeout in the area, Bell Garden is one of our go-to spots. We will definitely keep coming back!

My party of 8…read morearrived at noon but I got lucky since I called ahead of time and they let me reserve over the phone so we waited like 5 mins, pro move! lol So majority of the food items I thought were great but their steamed stuff tended to be over steamed messing with the texture but flavors more than made up for it. Overall meal, with a ton of food was $31 which I thought was very fair. The food: Fried Turnip Cubes- This was a special and holy mommy these were amazing, this was a universal fav at the table. Baked BBQ Pork Buns- These were great, super fluffy and pillowy and the filling, which is normally a deal breaker for me, wasn't too sweet. Triangle Dumpling with Shrimp and Snow Peas- this was really unique, I am almost certain I heard the word for snow peas when they were talking about this dish but it was really good. Braised Beef Tendon- So damn good! I order these whenever I can and these had the perfect soft texture. I would order these again. Pan Fried Round Chive and Shrimp Dumpling- This isn't something I order else where but these were the best version I ever had. Shumai- These were piping hot and delicious, these were great. Feng Zhao- Chicken Feet- As someone who eats a lot of chicken feet, these were made very well and the sauce was great. Lo Mai Gai- Steamed sticky rice in a lotus leaf. I thought this was excellent. The texture of the rice was super soft but the flavor was amazing. Fried Shrimp Paste Roll with Celery- Honestly, I don't even know why or how I ordered these because they aren't normally something I would order but they were shockingly good. Shrimp Spring Rolls- These are kinda simple but so good, they are thin shrimp spring rolls, I normally see this with a side of mayo but these were plain. These were fresh out of the frier and delish. Hargow- While the flavor of this was fine, they were over steamed, the texture was mealy and they broke apart when trying to pick them up. Don Tot- Egg Tart- The table liked this but I actually wasn't a fan. I thought the dough needed to be cooked more and the filling was so minimal. Pork Belly Special- This was good but no reason to order this again, also $27 was expensive for this. Lo Bak Go- Turnip Cake. I normally like this dish but it was just ok here and I found the dipping sauce to be too salty. Ha Churn- Steamed rice roll, this one pains me to say, this is my go to dim sum dish for any dim sum restaurant but the one here was bad. It was over steamed so the silky texture was a bit mushy but the thing that killed the dish the most was the thickness of the dough, the thickness of the dough was an abomination.
