Eggplant in garlic sauce with white rice.
Lauren F.

We ordered out after realizing they had the eggplant in garlic sauce dish. I've been looking and looking for that! I grabbed said eggplant dish as well as General Tso Tofu. My mom got the Sesame Chicken, Vegetable Fried Rice, and Wonton Soup. The eggplant dish was exactly what I wanted. Exactly. It had the perfect amount of sauce, garlic, and an abundance of perfectly cooked eggplant. I will order this over and over again from here. The General Tso? Maybe not. There was a thin layer of sauce at the bottom of the dish. Although there was a lot of tofu, it was almost all dry. Very dry. Maybe they were having an off evening, and I ordered the dish just as they were running out of the sauce? I will probably try this one more time. It is one of my favorite dishes, after all. Mom says her sesame chicken was made perfectly. It had the perfect amount of sauce, and it wasn't too sweet. The rice was good, your normal vegetable fried rice. The Wonton soup was very, very salty. She won't order that one again. There was some leakage in the bags, but thankfully, they were not just in the paper bag but a plastic one as well.

Tried dinner at one of the few Chinese restaurants in Durham! They serve pretty flavorful Sichuan food that isn't too spicy with shareable portion sizes. We came here on a weekday evening and it was pretty empty for dine-in. We ate: Spicy Beef Dry Pot ($19.99) - Like hot pot but everything is stir fried! Pretty good. Mapo Tofu with Minced Pork ($13.99) - This is comfort food for me!

Shredded Pork, Wontons in Chili Oil, rice, Singapore Mei fun.

Still consistent with the limited dishes I tried recently. Gave this another shot despite the recent reviews and change in ownership. Service: Takeout only. Seemed harried - not an unpleasant experience, but more used to this in corner takeouts in Philly. Didn't tell me a total before I gave them payment, so I had to ask. Really? Food: Shredded Pork with Dried Tofu: Very good, with sliced garlic and celery. Wontons in chili oil: Really spicy and I used the oil for frozen dumplings the rest of the week. Singapore Mei Fun: Variety of protein and they did not skimp on the chicken. Spicy. Overall: I'd go back but be choosy about my dishes. Three stars are for the food.

Fried Chicken Wings (Delivery)

My housemate and I were SOooooo hungry, but she knew what she wanted, right away: General Tso's Chicken and House fried rice, no shrimp, with extra beef and chicken. I like, no LOVE quite a few Chinese American dishes, so it was a little harder for me. I decided to try something completely different today: Sour Cabbage with Crispy Intestine. The rest of the order was completed with Hot n' Sour Soup and Fried Chicken wings. Well, the Sour Cabbage was definitely sour, but delicious. The pieces of intestine, however, weren't crispy. Their consistency was more chewy than crispy. The dish was tasty, I don't like black beans in anything because they are bitter to me, so I knew not to eat them. Overall, I was proud of myself for trying a new Authentic dish that I liked. The hot n' Sour Soup was so good. If you're vegetarian, it is an amazing option for you. There's no meat in it. Some restaurants use tofu as well as either chicken or pork. It was spiced with just the right amount of spice too. I don't like it when it's so spicy that I can't enjoy it. The fried chicken wings were fried harder than I liked, but they were nicely seasoned. Everything was piping hot, and I am definitely going to continue to order delivery from them.

Good authentic Chinese food! We need more of them in the triangle. My favorite is the szechuan fish stew!

We just found our new favorite Chinese restaurant in Durham!…read more We placed an online order for pickup and ordered the Beef Chow Fun and General Tso's Chicken, and we were delightfully surprised by how good everything was! The General Tso's Chicken had a wonderful taste and just the right amount of crispiness, which I absolutely love. It came with fried rice that was delicious and perfectly cooked without being greasy. The Beef Chow Fun was equally impressive, with well-seasoned noodles and incredibly tender beef with a slight crispness. Everything was cooked just right, and we couldn't have been happier with our meal. We're already looking forward to ordering again. If you're looking for great Chinese takeout in Durham, give Shanghai a try!

Also, since my husband and I can't eat rice we requested noodles with our entree and I was told outright that they could not do that so we ordered soup and an egg roll. Our guests ordered a meal and said it was good. So that was good. It was my fault that I didn't tell them to serve our soup and egg roll as an entree as it was served right away and our guests food arrived 20 minutes later. I doubt I will be going back any time soon.

Finally had a chance to try Wheat this week and boy was it worth the wait! We had minced beef…read morenoodles and braised beef noodle soup. Also got some pork dumplings. I tried a lemon/lime drink that was very tasty and refreshing. The restaurant was super clean. We were seated and orders taken quickly. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. Our food was very delicious and flavorful! Portions were perfect- not huge but not too small either. The waiter talked us into dessert since they make some homemade on site. I tried the tiramisu cake- yum! Prices were about what most places are charging for entrees now. I'll be back!

I've visited Wheat twice now, and honestly had mid experiences both times…read more During the most recent visit, there was no host at the front of the restaurant, and it was unclear whether someone would seat us or whether we seat ourselves. We waited for a bit, and eventually someone approached us, but that was a little annoying. Service after that was fine and relatively fast. Food-wise, I got the Home-style braised tofu and Mango pomelo sago. The tofu had a savory sauce that didn't have a ton of flavor other than braised soy, but did have lots of well-cooked veggies and large tofu pieces. At some point they ran out of rice, and the rice they did give me a lot later was unfortunately overcooked. The mango pomelo sago was really good actually, perfect amount of sweetness, strong mango and pomelo flavors, nice texture from sago. Ambiance is nice. Parking in this area is a little limited. 6.5/10 would maybe recommend.

Our go-to dim sum spot near Chapel Hill!…read more This is a wonderful family-run restaurant that blends modern simplicity with traditional charm. The staff are incredibly friendly and hardworking, and the atmosphere feels both welcoming and authentic. All items are affordable and with reasonable prices! It's the only legit dim sum place near Chapel Hill/Carrboro, about a 25-minute drive for us--and we gladly make the trip almost every week. We simply can't get enough of their food! Warning: Everything on their menu is dangerously addictive. You've been warned! Our Favorites 2. Pork Dumpling (Siu Mai / Siomai) -- Steamed pork in a wonton wrapper, perfectly juicy with just the right balance of pork and vegetables in every bite. A delicious classic done right. 6. Beef Onion Dumpling in Chili Sauce -- One of the best dumplings we've had--and we've been to dim sum spots all over the world! The beef is flavorful and juicy, wrapped in a thin, perfectly chewy skin. The chili sauce complements the filling beautifully without overpowering it. Generous portion, amazing value, flawless execution. 9. Steamed BBQ Pork Bun -- Soft, fluffy buns filled with mildly sweet BBQ pork. Comforting, classic, and delicious every time. 11. Egg Yolk Bun -- Lightly sweet custard filling inside soft steamed buns. The perfect bite of dessert to end your dim sum feast. 16. Bean Skin Stuffed with Pork -- Juicy, lightly seasoned pork wrapped in delicate bean skin. Flavorful but not overpowering--simple and satisfying. 27. Crispy Shrimp Ball -- Juicy and lightly seasoned shrimp goodness inside a crispy ball. They disappeared into the void of my stomach as soon as they touched our table. 28. Crispy Taro Puff with Chicken -- Think of these as bite-sized empanadas with savory, well-seasoned chicken inside--like the best mini chicken pot pies! Crispy, flavorful, and completely addictive. I could easily eat 30 of these! 41. Crispy Beef Onion Pot Sticker -- Pan-fried to golden perfection for that satisfying crunch. The beef and chives inside are juicy and flavorful, and the portions are generous. I dream about these dumplings when I'm asleep. Absolute perfection. Take all my money! The Finishing Touch Dim sum is meant to be enjoyed with tea, and they offer a simple traditional brew that pairs beautifully with every dish. If there's one downside--it's that they're only open Friday through Sunday. We wish they were open all week! Everything on their menu is so good! Best Dimsum and service in Durham!

"Great Asian dishes on Hope Valley Road in Durham"…read more Came here on a Saturday at about 6:30pm, but was able to get a table for 2 right away. The restaurant was busy but not quite full. You enter from the side of the building (where it looks like people get takeout) and walk toward the front for seating. There were a mix of booths and tables, and the setting is bright with big windows. The aroma from the food was excellent from the start. My girlfriend and I split the chicken stir-fried handmade noodles (under ramen) and an order of sautéed ong choy (greens, under "vegetables and tofu" in the menu). Food came in about 10 minutes, maybe less. We liked both dishes a lot. The ong Choy was fresh and delicious but pushing the high end of my spicy-hot tolerance. It also came with rice, which helped. But I really really liked the flavor of the seasoning and dish overall. It felt like the kinds of vegetable dishes I had when visiting China. The noodles themselves were delicious- clearly made in store. I did feel like the chicken and sauce were VERY mild though. For me, frankly, the best option would be to mix these two dishes, which was exactly what we did. Service was great- we got a nice big bottle of water for me and a pot of hot tea for my girlfriend. And they came to check periodically and let us pay at the table. The price was EXCELLENT- $30 before tip for us both. Overall, a good option for tasty and affordable Asian cuisine, and judging from how many people were in the restaurant, I think others agree.

We were left hanging for a bit until another waiter came along and led us to our table. It's nice that they provide water at the table so you don't need to ask for refills. We browsed the menu and eventually ordered, we got the Mapo Tofu, Stir Fried Pork, Lamb Dish, Chili Oil Wontons, Xiao Long Bao with Crabmeat, and the Beef Noodles. Each of us got a service of rice as well. The Mapo Tofu was flavorful but didn't have any meat sauce in it. It paired nicely with the rice. The Stir Fried Pork was also good and had a nice flavor and the Pork was tender. The Lamb Dish was a bit disappointing as they tried to do to much to the Lamb and it had too much of that velvety meat flavor and lost a lot of the original meaty flavor, the veggies were good. The Chili Oil Wontons left a lot to be desired. Not enough heat nor filling in the Wontons. The Xiao Long Bao was a bit disappointing as well. Not enough soup and the crab meat was just OK. The beef noodles also tasted too plain and the noodles/broth was a bit cold and not warm enough. The service was fairly good as our waiter came back around multiple times to see how everything was. It got very busy as we started getting our food. Overall not a bad experience. It was a bit weird how there was no music playing inside.
