Honestly, in the area of North Carolina, this restaurant is considered as quite authentic Asian restaurant to me! You can't expect it compare to NYC Chinese restaurant! I used to eat here a year or so ago and always enjoyed the food. Went back today and I was very disappointed. My favorite thing there, the chili oil wontons, used to be delightfully spicy. This version was drenched in soy sauce, to the point that the bottoms of the wontons were completely dark brown. It was inedible. I wish I would've thought to get a picture before I tossed it. I also got stir fried shrimp noodles. The noodle itself was good (the reason for my one star). The dish as a whole was not. Another dish drenched in soy sauce. It was salty, only had maybe 7-8 smallish shrimp in the whole dish, and the 4-5 slivers of cabbage were barely worth having. read more

My parents have been to Asian Kitchen several times already but I was able to visit with them for the first time about a week ago! While their noodles are definitely a standout in terms of texture and chew, some of the dishes we ordered this time were a letdown... Between the three of us, we tried two noodle dishes (hand pulled noodles with spare ribs & shaved noodles with bean paste aka zha jiang mian) and two regular dishes that came with rice (eggplant with garlic sauce & Hunan roasted pork aka hong shao rou). Outside of the regular menu that comes in a giant booklet, we also ordered the salted egg yolk lava buns off of their separate dim sum menu. In terms of the good, I absolutely LOVED the texture of the shaved noodles and also really enjoyed the texture of the hand pulled noodles, though I personally prefer a wider noodle which would be the shaved ones. Additionally, the eggplant with garlic sauce was solid and so were the salted egg yolk lava buns! Now in terms of the not so great, while we understand that Hunan roasted pork comes with pork belly which can be fatty, many of the pork belly pieces in this dish were pretty much all fat with no lean meat (basically inedible) which I have not seen in this dish at other restaurants. Also, the sauce that came with the shaved noodles was very one dimensional and just tasted of sweet bean paste with very little savory / umami flavor. read more

Asian Kitchen is a casual spot tucked in a strip mall with a huge menu of authentic Chinese dishes. There were seven of us dining in for lunch, so we ordered family style to try a little bit of everything. We got there right when they opened and were seated immediately. Service was friendly and quick, and the food came out pretty fast too. We ended up ordering five dishes, which was just the right amount for our group (we did need one extra side of rice though). Everything had a nice kick of spice--not too overwhelming, just enough to keep things interesting. The twice cooked pork was probably my favorite, and the eggplant stew was a great way to mellow out the heat from the other dishes. A group of 3 came around 7:30pm on Sunday. I had the Dan Dan noodles which were good and flavorful, and had quite the quick. If you have a spice intolerance then this is not for you! There was pork in the dish, but not much, so if you're looking for something with more protein I'd recommend something else. Asian Kitchen is in my regular rotation for when I have a chance to go out and am feeling a bit homesick. I grew up with Chinese food and Chinese restaurants, and feel like Asian Kitchen is the most authentic of Chinese restaurants in the Triangle. My roommate and I joke about how we'd always be on the same wavelength when we crave Asian Kitchen haha. Come here for lunch or dinner, no doubt there just about something for everyone. We love the ambiance around dinner time cause the lights are bright enough but also a bit dimmer setting a great tone for a casual group gathering, or even a fun roommate date- or in my case, happily third wheeling ;) (the more people you have, the more dishes you can eat). When we went together yesterday with her boyfriend, we ordered the crispy fish filets, eggplant, la zi ji (cubed fried chicken in spices), Hunan pork dish, and also the pepper chicken. We loved them all! Favorites of the bunch are the eggplant cause it's soft and packs great flavor, the fish filets were warm and crispy on the outside soft on the inside, and the Hunan pork (which has a pretty strong flavor profile of the bay leaf). E5 reminded us a bit like Kung pao chicken but more authentic and the chicken was super super tender. They give a lot of chicken too and with the la zi ji, great sizes and a great spice on them. You can always count on your rice being really fluffy, the servers here are always so kind and very knowledgeable to what to recommend to you based on your preferences. Not only did our servers treat us super well, we could also hear them guiding new people around us around the menu and give them great recommendations, especially if they're newer to Chinese food too. Solid and authentic Chinese food, with lots of flavors from Hunan, a Chinese province known for its spice. I love how they make their noodles by hand! Try the "ramen" (hand-pulled noodles) or shaved noodles! This makes Asian Kitchen unique as not every Chinese restaurant in the area take the time to do this. I recommend the Hunan roasted pork, Dan Dan noodles, twice cooked pork and eggplant. Make sure you order "family-style" so you and your friends/family can try different dishes! I came here once years ago, but not since they started getting so famous for their handmade noodles. I was lucky enough to have lunch here recently, and what a treat! My dining companion has eaten here several times before and he guided me to the stir fried noodles (less broth than some other options, though I'm sure those would have been delicious, as well). We opted for veggies and everything was amazing! The stir fried string beans were really something special- cooked absolutely perfectly with a lot of garlic and the perfect amount of saltiness. I came here based off tik tok videos and reviews of their noodles and it did not disappoint! It even tastes just as good through ubereats, which is how I've been ordering mainly ever since I tried it. When you walk in, there really is a guy spinning fresh cut noodles in front of you just like the videos. The servers and host were all also very friendly. The shrimp fried shaved noodles are AMAZING. My friend and I get this same order every time and crave it often. They also have some of the best egg rolls I've had- really big too, so make sure you get a shrimp egg roll that they serve with a yummy duck sauce that tastes like sweet thai chili sauce. For other items- I was not too crazy about the dumplings or general tso chicken. The chicken was way too breaded and the dumplings weren't that flavorful. After trying it once I never got them again. The Mongolian beef is pretty good but not the greatest. I understand they're an old restaurant who rebranded but they are doing pretty great with the noodles. read more

I've tried the beef, stewed beef, Dan Dan and spare rib shaved noodles and chicken fried shaved noddles. The spare rib was my favorite - slightly spicy, great flavor. The fried shaved noodles are kind of like Lo mein. I didn't love the other dishes. Went back this time for take-out for a beef noodle soup with shaved noodles and general tso's chicken. The online ordering was easy to use, and our food was ready when we got there in about 10 minutes. However, once we got home, we realized that the amount of soup they gave for the shaved noodles was less than half of what was needed to actually cover all of the noodles. There were 2 leaves of bok choy and then 4 flat pieces of beef. They should have given twice the amount of soup and more bok choy at least. read more

Let me start by saying we went in on high expectations because the reviews were 4.3 and it was wonderful food. Well it wasn't. It had nothing a flavor whatsoever so let me start by saying three orders. One order was kao pao chicken with fried rice the other order was mango shrimp / vegetable with fried rice both orders had soup it was supposed to be tum kai. The first order was no mango flavor. It looked like slurry vegetables about four pieces and two pieces of shrimp. The fried rice was steamed white rice in a brown soya mushy on both of ours. Nothing else in it. That's not fried rice the soup I'm not sure what we got. I did see one mushroom in mine and one piece of chicken sprouts no coconut milk clear broth with a lot of red greasy oil. I'm not sure of the waiter spoke may be very little English so we asked him in advance before we put the order in and all he kept nodding in his head. Yes yes and I looked at my daughter and I said I don't think he understands what we're asking. My grandson had chicken Ramen and it was decent. My daughter took one bite of her food and says it taste bad so we called him over took him about 15 minutes to come over and we told him it was no good. It was tasted bad and the flavor was way off. He didn't understand and she says I'm not eating this. I took one bite. He said OK she can take it off or you know what just forget it and he goes OK and then he walked away. We asked for three containers to go one for the soup and my food and my grandson's food cause I can go home and fix it Up. He comes back and says well I'm not taking it off the receipt. I'll give you 2% off so it was two dollars for her taking one bite of food and I looked at my daughter went. I've never heard of that. She was mom not that's not argue with him. I don't even think he understands what we are asking and he walked away. Never gave us a receipt after we paid him. He never even gave us a receipt to begin with, and my daughter walked out because she was so upset so all I could post on here was a receipt from the bank, then withdrawing the money and you could see at the top Asian kitchen. I do not recommend this restaurant whatsoever it was a very disappointing and I told the guy in the front who said oh we have really good food. How could you even say that when I told him what happened to our food I said do they think we're stupid that we don't know mushy white rice, turn soya on it and not fried that it's not fried rice and there was nothing no flavor no nothing to it. He goes. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry and I said my daughter didn't even eat her her food. she took one bite and said it tasted bad and he takes two dollars off. I've never heard of that. She didn't get to eat lunch. She couldn't eat the soup. It was too greasy. I didn't eat the soup so I said I'll take it home and try to fix it up because they're gonna charge us anyways I would not go to this place. I don't know who gave the stars must be family and friends because and now the alarms were there nobody was there. just in case anybody says we didn't eat there. I have eaten here before and returned because I enjoy eating the shaved noodle. The noodles had great texture and the stewed beef soup had a rich flavor. The bowl of noodles was a great portion for the price and I even took some home. I did not like the stewed beef because it was very chewy. They didn't prepare the beef the way I hoped and there was not enough fat in the cuts of beef to break up the texture. It was very hard to chew. Overall I rated it higher despite the experience with the beef because the server was nice and gave good suggestions and was transparent about the portion differences, several individuals came to check on our table, and the restaurant had no wait on a weeknight/the food came out quickly. Asian Kitchen, which has been around since at least February 2010, had a resurgence thanks to a concerted social media effort beginning around August 2023. Content for this business really ramped up in 2024. In early 2024, my wife saw a Reel for Asian Kitchen on Instagram and that's how we came to get takeout from and dine in here. At the time, we thought to ourselves, "Wait. *That* Asian Kitchen in the Harris Teeter shopping center (Hope Valley Commons) near our apartment?" We lived in the area for four years and didn't think much of this place because it looked like just another run-of-the-mill Chinese takeout joint. Kudos to the staff/owner(s) on what I think was a successful rebrand. It certainly reached us. My first experience was takeout and then I revisited twice with my wife and parents for dine-in. The first time, we showed up at 2pm on a Sunday and the place was unexpectedly slow. The dining room was mostly empty with servers idling. The second time, we showed up at 7pm on a Thursday and the place was busy. During that visit, the restaurant seemed short-staffed. At both dine-in visits, there was no one at the hand-pulled noodle station for the duration of our visits -- I understand because of demand and the time of our visits. That said, I've been to other hand-pulled noodle restaurants that keep the show going for whatever reason. Maybe those other places make smaller and/or made-to-order batches. Asian Kitchen's menu offers a fairly extensive selection, but it could be a lot more descriptive. For example, what makes their dishes "Hunan?" What comes with the "Hot Pot Beef?" You have to rely on your server for answers. If the menu did get more descriptive, they'd have to switch from simple laminated one-sheet menus to more expensive magazine-like menus, so I get why they designed theirs the way they did. While "Asian" is in the name, this restaurant is Chinese. There are lots of "authentic" dishes on the menu, from Sauteed Frog ($28.99) to Dry Hot Pot Lamb ($22.99). This isn't an American-Chinese place, though they offer those dishes too. Lunch specials, about $10 and under, are available Tuesday-Friday, 11:00am-2:30pm. My wife considers it comfort food (we both grew up in Chinese households). The noodles, which are Chinese lamian, are made from wheat flour dough. Here, the difference between hand-pulled (or hand-made) and shaved (or knife-cut) noodles is the shape of the noodles. Hand-pulled noodles are round while shaved noodles are flatter. It's a subtle difference and you can't go wrong either way. We thought all of the noodle dishes were solid. They were fresh and flavorful (broth and ingredients), and the noodles had good texture. Well made. We asked for chili oil to add to our lamian. They can bring a jar to your table upon request. As for the other (non-noodle) dishes, we enjoyed everything. One thing I like about Asian Kitchen's Shredded Tripe with Chili Sauce is the generous portion size. The Sweet & Sour Short Ribs were tasty and addictive. The short ribs could have been meatier, but the portions we got weren't unreasonable. One of my dad's favorite dishes is Chinese steamed chicken and he seemed to enjoy Asian Kitchen's spicier version. The Stir-fried Pork with Hunan Style, Eggplant Stew, Bean Sprouts in Garlic Sauce, Sauteed Ong Choy and Stir-fried Snow Pea Tips were all fresh and delicious. The latter two are my top two favorite Chinese vegetables. Asian Kitchen made terrific versions of them. The ong choy was especially addictive. I couldn't stop eating it. Despite the spice level shown next to each dish on the menu, you can customize the spice level on many dishes. Service was very good for our takeout and first dine-in experience. When we dined in the first time, the staff was extra attentive because business was slow. When we dined in the second time, there was only one server and one food runner for the entire dining room. I thoroughly enjoyed the food here -- it packed a punch, the portions were huge, and the prices were super reasonable. I would highly recommend the dry pot cauliflower and the mapo tofu. These were excellent and I especially enjoyed the seasoning in the dry pot cauliflower. I also tried the dan dan noodles (asked for it without without pork due to dietary restrictions) and it was not my favorite (probably because it didn't have the pork), so I don't think I would get that again. We also got the chicken stir fried shaved noodles and they were fine, just not personally my favorite. The servers drop by pretty quickly to ask for your order, but we asked for more time and they were understanding. The ambiance is homey -- nothing to really speak of -- it's clean, a lot of locals are there, and the food is really the main star of the show. When we came on a Monday evening, we were surprised to find a wait, which we don't often see at Chinese restaurants. The restaurant was very busy throughout our meal and even after we left, there were several groups waiting outside. They gave us a number corresponding to our party and told us that they would yell out our number when they had a table ready. This seemed slightly inefficient, as most restaurants I go to will take down your phone number and text or call when the table is ready. We waited for about 25 minutes before we heard our number being called. We ordered the shrimp fried ramen, eggplant stew, hunan roasted pork, tofu with minced meat, and sweet and sour short ribs. The food took a noticeably long time to come out and the dishes slowly came out one by one to the point where we had to wait a while between each dish. This may be expected of high-end restaurants with several course meals, but we often finished each dish with time to spare before the next dish came out. The noodles were alright but the shrimp was not well-mixed in with the noodles at all and seemed to be added in as an afterthought. The tofu wasn't bad but we found it to be quite bland. The eggplant stew was pretty flavorful but the portion size was smaller than we anticipated. I found the ribs to be extremely dry and difficult to eat, with strings of the meat stuck to my teeth after the meal. This place is so good. I recently went here with my wife during the Christmas holiday while we had some time off. This place makes an excellent lunch date. Their service is quick and there's not usually a long wait if any to get seated. I ordered an egg and the Pork Stir Fried Shaved Noodles, my wife ordered the vegetables and garlic sauce and we split a plate of the stir fried green beans. Everything was so good. We often dont eat a lot of pork at home so when we go out is when I get to really order the pork dishes and the pork shaved noodles are so tasty. The entire order was excellent. the service was prompt and very friendly. This place isn't really a hidden gem, but it's the right level of popular. Laughs and decadent aromas filled the air during when we walked into the room. It was so cool watching the head chef make noodles and the process of cooking the shaved noodles. We got a recommendation to give Asian Kitchen a try from my fiancés boss. They had been talking about how we like to go try new restaurants. Especially authentic ones. Her Bos's title her we had to try this place. She stopped with her kids one day and they fell in love We got there maybe 2 hours before close. It was busy but not packed. Comfortable. Welcoming. Staff seated us right away. Super friendly. We took a look at the menu and were excited to see so many genuine authentic Chinese dishes. For appetizers we got the : 1.) beef Filet w/ tripe in chili sauce. It was soooooo good. I loved it. ( too spicy for my fiancé lol) The heat was very spicy but after a while you acclimate nicely. I enjoy tripe so Texture were really nice. (Be mindful if you not a fan of different/weird textures because you might not like it.) I still recommend trying it at least once! If you like spicy You won't regret it!10/10 2.) spinach and chicken dumplings to share. They came in an order of 10! Very flavorful, definitely handmade. We couldn't eat them all so a coup came home with us. lol . 9/10. For our mains we got the : Twice Cooked Pork - recommended by my fiancé boss as her family's go to dish. It did not disappoint. The thinly sliced pork belly packed a deep rich and satisfying flavor I'll be thinking about for a long time. It is CRAVEABLE. The peppers added a wonderful flavor and crunch to the dish. Served perfectly with a side of white rice. 10/10 Short Rib Shaved Noodles - the only way I can describe this dish is life giving. It was one of the most flavorful, rich broths I've probably ever had. The shaved noodles were cooked to perfection. Beef short ribs so tender. As I was eating this dish all I could think was next time I had a cold. I'm ordering 2 orders of this incredible soup to make me feel better. I cannot recommend this enough. 10/10 We cannot wait to go back and try more of this amazing menu! read more

A good experience for lunch. Went with my daughter, was impressed with the breadth of options and handmade noodles. We shared the chicken and spinach steamed dumplings, they were very nice and a good sized portion. I did not try my daughter's ramen with beef but she said it tasted good and the noodles looked great. I really enjoyed the lamb dry pot, just the right amount of spice and the lamb was very tender. One of the few places in the Triangle that makes authentic food. In a restaurant landscape that cares more about appearances than flavors, it's refreshing to see a place that puts out great food in an unpretentious vibe. Service is fast and efficient, clearly visible to guests when they walk in to see their chefs hand-pulling the freshly made noodles. read more
