The food was absolutely delicious and very filling. The kalbi was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly--not dry at all. The garlic shrimp was also excellent, with a generous portion and great taste. I loved the entire plate and felt it was well worth it. The only minor downside was that I couldn't get through by phone to place my order, likely because they were very busy. As a result, I had to order in person and wait at the restaurant instead of simply picking it up. That said, the food more than made up for the inconvenience. Overall, it's a 5-star experience when it comes to quality and flavor, and I'll definitely be back.
Great clean place. Fast service and the most excellent food. I had the Kalbi ribs! Big portions so I will have 2 meals out of it! But the meat is divine !

This place has been on my bucket list for a long time, and I finally got a chance to try it! We ordered two mixed plates so we could sample a few different protein options. The garlic shrimp was easily my favorite, it was garlicky, the shrimp were jumbo-sized, and they were cooked perfectly. The kalbi was a little more charred than I prefer, but it still tasted great and paired well with the kimchi. The garlic chicken portion was very generous, and crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. The kalua pig was definitely on the saltier side, making it a total "rice killer." I also absolutely loved their mac salad, I think there might be some meat (bacon?) mixed into it because it was way more flavorful than the mac salad you get at other Hawaiian spots. I also came specifically for their filled malasadas. We tried one of each flavor at $3.99 a piece, but they were surprisingly small. It's probably not worth ordering them individually compared to buying a half-dozen or a full dozen box. That being said, they tasted great, so I wasn't too upset about it. Overall, it's a bit on the pricier side, but the food is solid and this will definitely be our new go-to Hawaiian restaurant.
I kept seeing the ad while browsing social media while I was hungry so I decided to check this place out. The store was empty when I came in. The cashier was super nice. We had a nice chat. I ordered the chicken and steak combo plate and a Hawaiian drink that came out to $26. Pretty pricey but I wanted to try them. I waited while my food was prepared and took it to go. The food was just ok. The beverages in the cooler weren't cold but maybe they just put them in. I did check all because I'm not one that enjoys room temperature drinks. IDK if I'll come again but I'm glad I at least tried it .
I've been here twice so far. The menu is simple, sticking to the classics and focusing on fresh, well-made Hawaiian dishes. No frills, just good food. The staff has always been super friendly, and the place itself feels welcoming. On one visit, there was a bit of an unusual moment with a guest's dachshund ate inside on the table and the staff came up to pet the dog who licked their hands and what not, it caught me off guard more than anything. It didn't seem like a service animal since they're trained to stay under the table, so it's probably worth keeping in mind that non-service animals are allowed at this restaurant. Overall, it's been consistently solid food wise.
The one and only place to get Hawaiian food in the valley So glad they opened this location in PV as the original location is all the way out in Mesa. The PV location is pretty spacious inside. They make everything to order so it can take a while for food to come out I LOVE the kalbi, mac salad & malasadas. Garlic shrimp is a nice treat every once and a while but they go heavy on the butter so I don't feel the greatest after indulging in garlic shrimp

The Kalbi Ribs were good, Garlic Chicken - So So, but the Poki was so salty We could not take another bite. I'm not one to take food back, but they had a sign on each table saying "If you had a great experience, we would love a Google or Yelp review. If you had a bad experience please let the cashier know so we can make it right". I told the cashier "Do you add salt to your Poki, because it's way too salty for me". All she had to say was "we don't add salt to our Poki" and left it at that. I don't like making too much of a fuss so I just walked off thinking they do not stand by their word. Not sure what that spice was I was tasting, but it was way to strong you barely taste the fish. Again, I don't like returning food nor give bad reviews, but the service & Poki (that day) was not a good experience.
Love this place. Thank k goodness they finally opened one closer to my house than Mesa. We had the garlic chicken and the combo Kalbi and garlic shrimp. Kalbi was beautifully charred with a sweet soy marinade along with the shrimp that was cooked perfectly in a garlic butter. Garlic chicken tasted more like a mochiko chicken and was slightly tougher pieces of chicken thighs. Overall nice place for lunch. Please get an ice machine! There wasn't a cube of ice anywhere to be found for the beverages.
My grams and I drove 30 minutes to try this place and we were not disappointed! The prices are very reasonable, considering the portion size that you get, and we were blown away with the taste. It took about 15 minutes to get our order, but when it comes out, it's piping hot so you know that it's fresh and ready to eat. We shared a combo with shrimp and ribs, and then got an additional side of Mac salad and rice. We also got a six pack of the malasadas and I'm literally dreaming about them. The ube filling was by far the best, and quite honestly better than some I've had in Hawaii before. We will definitely return. Plenty of seating inside too!
I ordered a Kalbi and Garlic Chicken mix plate and a half dozen of Ube Yam and Vanilla Custard Malasadas. No complaints about the mix plate. Meats weren't dry and were flavorful. Rice was properly clumpy, not a mushy mess iykyk. Malasadas tasted like what I've had on Oahu. I wish the cream was sweeter and little thicker but still tasty. I also tried one of my friend's garlic shrimp and wow it was a big, juicy shrimp! No issues with service. There isn't much of an ambience but as long as the food is good!
Big, big fan of Hapa Food Company in East Mesa. This is my first visit to their new Scottsdale and the vibes are there for sure! The garlic shrimp are huge and packed with flavor - I wish it were fried so I can eat the skin too but that's a personal preference. Biggest issue this visit was the garlic chicken tasted a bit stale and lacked the satisfying crunch I remember and were a bit overdone and dry. I've had good experiences before so I would still highly recommend giving them a try! Pro-tip: try the hurricane chicken on the not so secret menu. FYI, they have a $1 credit card fee

My husband found this place because someone from work brought malasadas from here and he told me "they're legit better than the ones from Hawai'i". They are. Tasting these makes me want to compare them to Leonard's - it's been too long. If you're a big fan of ube, these have a hint of it, but I understand how expensive and laborious it would be to make the cream have that big flavor. We also tried a couple combos with garlic chicken and kalua pig. I thought the flavors were solid, and the crispness of the chicken remained even with the sauce covering it. My husband regretted to ask for the sauce on the side - he wants the crunch to be audible I guess. The tender kalua pig went perfectly with the side of rice - not gamey but reminds me of smoked pit pulled pork. The space inside is humbly decorated with enough seating for groups of 4-6 people. I noticed most ordered online and left with goodies to go. Considering the care and effort clearly presented in the food we received, service was great. There were three guys behind the counter getting through the numerous to go and sit-in orders, all with enthusiasm and sense of pride. We got takeout after hearing this could be the only authentic Hawaiian food in the Valley. We were so happy we stopped. My husband loved his poke bowl and my mixed bowl was great. Typically not a short rib person but wow they were great, and the garlic chicken was awesome. Going to try the pork next time. It was busy inside at 6:15pm when we picked up. Service was nice and efficient, our order was ready. We'll be back! read more

Went in with a couple friends for the ribeye special and got a ribeye that was barely edible. See the pic and decide for yourself if that was what was advertised. Was told by the person running the counter it's all cooked to medium rare and what we got was not that. Service was fine. The place was extremely warm, the had a portable ac unit set up but it wasn't covering the entire place. Anyway, it will be a few years till I go back to this well done steak of a place. Im always looking for local places. The menu was simple enough. Friendly people working and a it was a casual place for a quick eat. I'd definitely would come back and support a business like this. Food was so good. There was more than enough food in the combo plate. The Mac salad was better than I thought it would be. Not too much mayo like how some places might make it. read more

Hapa offers your basic Hawaiian food. We had the mixed plate with garlic chicken and kalua pork. The chicken was fried and it had perfect amount of seasoning with hint of garlic flavor. The pork, on the other hand was bit salty. We also had poke plate. The sides, macaroni salad and kimchi were good. It also came with lot of rice. Their dessert, malasada was very fresh and delicious. We tried the plain and ube custard. Both were equally delicious. Service is fast and excellent. It's order at the counter and take a number deal. Recommend to try at least once! read more

I love Hawaiian BBQ and I've gone to many spots in the valley, and my husband makes spareribs at home on the regular - but Hapa Food is by far the best in the valley for Hawaiian BBQ! The flavor of the sauce on the chicken and spareribs was so juicy and savory, and the meat was tender! The macaroni salad had great flavor and the portion was large! We ordered to go since we made a pit stop during the workday, and it travelled well! Additionally the location is clean, the service is great! We ordered some dessert to go and they through in an extra! What a nice surprise! Not expected, but appreciated! Big fan of this new spot and can't wait to go again! read more

Food is amazing but it's expensive. Sucks that there isn't really good Hawaiian for a decent price. The food here was good but costed us $40 for two people. Workers were nice, restaurant needs better ventilation, the entire store was smokey from the kitchen read more
Kalbi ribs! Garlic shrimp! Are we back on the islands? The ribs were delicious and a good portion size. The (4) garlic shrimp were big! And covered in garlic butter. Came with rice, mac salad and kimchi. And a lemon wedge. The mac salad was good, though not quite as flavorful as others I've had. The rice was cooked nicely and the kimchi added a nice kick of acidity. We did also order 6 filled malasadas (3 each custard and ube) which were good but maybe a little overfilled. Next time I think we'll get to regular (unfilled). We were greeted as soon as we walked in and she said she'd be right with us. As we stood at the counter looking at the menu, one of the cooks also said someone would be right with us. This was appreciated because it means they pay attention to their customers. And it didn't take long before someone came to take our order. The entire time we were there, everyone was working. There wasn't anyone just standing around. The interior is a bit bare, but clean. And I don't need a fancy interior with food this good. We did get ours to go, but there were tables and some other customers dining in. If you are looking for authentic Hawaiian food, I would definitely recommend Hapa. We will definitely be back! read more

Hapa Foods Ordered the following: Kalbi and Garlic Chicken Mix Plate Kalbi and Garlic Shrimp Mix Plate Kalua Pig single plate Serve Poke but didn't get it Malasadas Regular, Custard and Ube filled So to begin with, the Kalbi was just a bit over cooked, parts charred, tasty but too much where was getting dry. I am a huge fan of garlic, so the piled amount of garlic on the shrimp was good for me, probably my favorite entree is Garlic Shrimp. Garlic Chicken was almost lacking enough garlic and crispness, sounded better than it tasted. The Kalua Pork is excellent, flavor, aroma and tenderness is very good. I am just not a kalua pork favorite. Malasadas were very good, tried the regular, Custard and ube. Custard was my favorite, then regular. We have had the favorite Oahu. Malasadas from the island a d these are just as good. Biggest complaint was the macaroni salad, I absolutely love macaroni salad and this misses the mark, dont know how to describe but a little to creamy, maybe the mayo was not to my liking, just didn't do it for me. Small restaurant and happy workers, just for the locals. Get the garlic shrimp, Custard Malasadas, don't over cook the kalbi then get that. read more

Wow! I'm surprisingly pleased. I was so hungry after a rigorous morning workout and just wanted protein. My boyfriend found this on yelp and suggested we try it. Sooooooo goood and hit the spot. First, we were greeted by this young lady who was very polite, friendly and full of helpful suggestions. Definitely great person to put up front to handle customers. She had a personality that is easy to get along with. Great customer service. We both got the Kalbi ribs single plate. Very very generous portions! It comes with kimchi which was yummy! It also comes with plenty of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. Rice was good, no complaints. Macaroni salad was good, however I'm not a macaroni salad person (it is very mayo forward) but I'm sure it hits the spot for macaroni salad lovers. The main show of course was the beef riblets. They were so tender, flavorful (great flavor!) and ample amounts of meat! I ate every piece of meat! So satisfying. We ended with ube malasadas. I've always wanted to try these. I know they are specialty treat well known in Hawaii and originated in Portugal. Combine a deep fried yeast based donut treat with one of my faves ube and rolled in sugar, and I'm down. It definitely was a guilty tasty dessert treat at the end for me. I would have it again Definitely recommend! Bring your appetite! It is a lot of food! I'm looking forward to trying more dishes there such as their poke (decently priced), their chicken and shrimp and of course more malasadas. Check them out! You won't regret it! read more

Popped into this place today for lunch after finding it on Yelp. Located in a small strip mall right off the 51. My goddaughter and I both enjoyed it here. I got the Kalbi & Garlic Shrimp plate and she got Kalbi & Kailua Pork. Each one came with Mac salad and plenty of rice, as well as some kimchi. Kalbi was perfect - there was no struggling (if you know what I mean) and the shrimp definitely sent me down memory lane of my Hawaiian trips. If I was not being mindful of my eating habits, I would have totally eaten all of the Mac salad but I needed to watch myself. It was pretty darn good though! Couldn't help but order some malasadas. We got half filled with ube and the other half with custard. I inhaled an ube one and told my goddaughter to take the rest home with her. Am I still daydreaming about them? Yes. Will I buy another box of 6 next time just so I can have 1? Absolutely. Made fresh to order - felt like I was biting into a donut filled with love. The ube filling was not too sweet too unlike some typical donut fillings. Just perfect! Looking forward to bringing my husband here because I know he'll enjoy it as much as I did. read more

I give them 5 stars for the Garlic Chicken plate and the mixed plate with Garlic Chicken and Kahlua pig. Highly recommend this place. I previously gave them a poor review for the Garlic Chicken for the chunks of garlic in the meal. Now it is much improved and I give it a solid 5 stars. read more

Hapa Food has only been open a couple of months, but they're already serving up some seriously tasty plates! I ordered the Kalbi & garlic chicken, and my boyfriend got the Kalbi & garlic shrimp. The Kalbi was the star! It was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The garlic chicken was also delicious, and my boyfriend liked his shrimp, though we both thought it would've been even better if the shells were off so all that garlic goodness could soak into the meat. Since they're new, they don't have fountain drinks yet (hopefully soon!), and the water cups were on the small side with water that was a little warm. Not a huge deal, just something to note. Overall though, the food more than makes up for those little things, and I can't wait to come back for more Kalbi. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving Hawaiian flavors! read more
