I want to like this café. I want to make it my regular cafe. But here it is early August and 27 degrees outside and the front door and the patio doors are wide open letting flies into the establishment and draining the air-conditioning. I've asked several times in the past for the doors to be kept closed and I'm always told that the owner insists on them being open. Soon wasp season will be here and I will no longer be able to be a customer. It's mid afternoon on a Saturday and there are exactly 4 people in the café. I've read mixed reviews about this place. Considering it is close to home I decided to give it a try. The service could've been better, there were many people behind the counter and it was unclear as to who was taking orders; staff also could've been friendlier. I ordered a London fog and it hit the spot. It's a cozy place but because it's small, it can get overcrowded and noises quite quickly. This cafe is right across the street from high park it may even be the only one in the area since I didn't see much else outside the park. The moment I walked in it smelled so good. It was like a soft baking of good with maybe some cinnamon and like breakfast all together (preggo nose right now) Besides my double over ice I ordered a pumpkin muffin -my fav muffin and an oatmeal chocolate cookie which was so soo soo good. A few days ago, my friends and I went on an "aesthetics" day, which is an inside joke about going to places that are really pretty and taking good pictures. After high park, Hannah's is on the north side and very close to Keele subway station. We saw the pictures of the interior and it was definitely on our list. I really hate giving low ratings, but Hannah's was a disappointment. The inside is awesome and beautiful and very hipster, but the prices and the portions are high. I also found that they need some blinds or something, especially since summer is coming up. They have really huge windows and I was burning when I was sitting inside. We ordered the breakfast sandwich, which was $7. Outta whack dude. It was a good sandwich with obviously better ingredients than McDonald's, but I could get a very similar sandwich at starbucks for $3-4. It was also tiny af. I also found the coffee portions to be small. I ordered a medium for $3 and it was similar to a small at other places. Coffee is obviously a strong point of their business, but I was not really blown out of the water. We also had a service issue where my friend was given the chicken wrap but it did not look like any chicken was in it at all. We thoroughly inspected it before we sent it back, and a few minutes after she came back with a new (maybe, not sure) one and said that it was just the way it was cut and there was indeed chicken in there. Eh. Alrighty then. We were still not a fan of the yam on the inside and it was just ok. I'm a lover of aesthetic places, but I would not come back anytime soon. We came to Hannah's after a long day of walking through High Park and were left with a very "meh" attitude. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was $6.75 and was intending to share it with my SO, but the sandwich was extremely small. However, I saw a breakfast wrap come out and it looked pretty big so maybe that ones alright. My other friends ordered one of their wraps and they gave it a 3/5. The cashier at the counter was fairly nice but our server wasn't as great. The decor was really nice and cute and there's also a seating area outside where you can enjoy your meal/coffee if the weathers nice. Disappointing both from a food perspective and customer service. My BLT had "white" tomatoes in it along with the core. At this time of year the tomatoes are at their peak. The very young girl who served my friend and I was dismissive and very abrupt, to the point of being rude hen she was taking our order. I have been coming to this coffee shop since they opened and have been a frequent customer since the reopening in April- supporting this cafe. It had become a inviting and comfortable place to visit in my neighbourhood daily. I had in the past weeks shared my concern for not being able to wear a mask, for which the Toronto Bylaw allows an exemption under medical grounds. This has been received by the staff with compassion and understanding for weeks- I felt welcome in the store. I have always respected rules of social distancing in the cafe and would have easily taken my business elsewhere if the accommodation was not honoured. The other day I was in line for 10 minutes and the owner came to tell me that my order must be taken outside. I thought this was strange and felt embarrassed that I was being taken outside like this- I cooperated with the request. I was later told that this was because the employees had the right to feel safe. I though this was unusual because I was not asked to order this way earlier and a staff member had come in from a break not wearing a mask while I was in line. Clearly this was confusing for me. I returned to speak to the owner outside the cafe to clarify the communication, I wanted to clarify what happened from my observations and better understand where the shop was on this matter because I did not want to return and make the situation uncomfortable for anyone nor feel embarrassed in the way that I felt the other day. The conversation felt abrupt and I was interrupted with out the opportunity to explain why I was confused or discuss reasonable accommodations moving forward. I was shocked by the level of dismissal of my experience. I left the site and I could hear one of the owners yell out "Wear a mask"-as I was leaving- clearly audible to the patio next door. I felt shamed and was shocked. What a lack of professionalism in which this inquiry was addressed by both owners. I invite the owners of the shop to show compassion and dignity to the persons who are not able to wear a mask for medical reasons and in turn support the Canadian Human Rights Act- which includes protections for persons with disabilities. If they choose to accommodate in a different way, I invite them to make this clear and consistent so that customers know what to expect and are not met with surprises and contradictions. I believed that it was important to support local businesses, especially independent non-franchised shops, who suffered as a result of the Corona Crisis- and became a daily customer in the cafe in the last months. I invite this small business to recognize the interconnected relationship they have within their community, who has been there to support them for years and in turn show compassion and dignity in these times back to their community- rather then divide and alienate and shame. read more

Pros: -Huge windows, so lots of sunlight. -Low music, so you can work in peace. -Nobody bothers you after you order your thing. Cons: -Internet connection from spotty to useless, so you can't work in there. -The kitchen is connected to the main area, so in the Winter, when everything is closed, you have to throw your clothes immediately after to the wash -- or risk someone telling you that you smell like food. read more

The only thing cooler than the hand squeezed orange juice is the artfully decorated interior that is perfect for lunch with a friend. Hannah's is conveniently located across from High Park and serves up the best BLT and dark roast anywhere around. So yummy. And the staff are friendly. But. And that's a big but, their process for serving customers is abysmal. Slow. Slow. Slow. After waiting in line for what seems like forever, the coffee was not ready. The sandwich takes so Long, the coffee is either lukewarm or been consumed. There's no process. Why not have someone at the door or outside taking orderS? Customer service here is horrendous. I came in on a Saturday afternoon with 2 friends. We ordered 3 breakfast sandwiches and coffees. 1 of them came out and the other 2 took 30 more minutes. I asked about the other 2 sandwiches and the girl behind the counter rolled her eyes at me twice. As if it's ridiculous for me to wonder what the hell is happening. We've been quite a few times since opening, and the coffee and food are pretty darn good. That being said, the service is really hit or miss. Depending on who's at the counter (I'm talking about you, young woman that mutters under her breathe) a person with a stroller can feel really unwelcome. She asks questions like "how are you going to sit with that here" or "you're blocking the way". Considering you've included accessibility buttons on your entrance and the neighbourhood is basically young families with young kids, you might want to be more welcoming to returning patrons that live steps away from your establishment. Then when my boyfriend asked for the spoon again she said she was busy doing something. I think the place should be managed better. The mocha is heavenly. My go to food items are the zucchini muffin, the gluten free cookie (for sharing because it's huge!), the turkey chilli and the BLT. I have to echo some of the other reviewers. The key redeeming quality of this location is... the location. It's well positioned in high park and the decor is the best. The staff and the food really are on the same sub par level. The staff look bored and bothered by you. And they don't really help you with the menu or anything. I remember getting ready to settle down and then they kicked me out because they were closing. Like, that's fine but some warning would've been nice since it was only 7pm and I was gonna meet someone. The menu also has a poor selection and it is very over priced. The food is very underwhelming especially in contrast with the location. All in all, just order the cheapest coffee here. You won't get much else from being here. read more

I came in at lunch time to grab a couple of coffees. There was a line out the door, so I expected a bit of a wait, but my order took much longer than I anticipated. When I got home I checked my Google Maps timeline. It took 45 minutes to place and collect my take out order of 2 iced coffees and a sandwich. In addition to the wait, the barista seemed confused by my order (different milk than I asked for, not adding syrup). I did ask for two different versions of the same drink, so perhaps I wasn't clear enough when I ordered, but I did check at the time. My sandwich seemed to take a long time. I asked an employee to check on it. I overheard them speaking with the kitchen staff. They'd given my sandwich to someone else. They quickly made me a replacement, but did not acknowledge or apologise for the mistake. Any one of these individually I wouldn't have minded - it was a busy time on a busy day, I spotted a sign saying they were hiring, so assumed they were understaffed. But collectively the wait, the mistakes, and the lack of acknowledgement and apology bothered me enough that I won't be returning. read more

I just went here for the first time (I'm a High Park area resident) to pick up a latte and an egg white breakfast wrap. THERE WAS A BEETLE IN MY WRAP. I am not joking.
