Classic, lowkey spot near Ossington. Glad we only waited about 35 minutes on a Friday night. Food was good and the drinks were light. The tartare and chicken karaage were standouts. Dyno wings were a bit hard to eat but filling. Miso ice cream was an interesting flavor in a good way. Would come back.
My favourite late-night "hidden" corner of Toronto. Everything on the menu just pairs too well with a cold beer (or 2). Our usual order: * Moto Eggs: Japanese-style deviled eggs * Dyno Wings: pork dumplings stuffed in chicken wings * Surf & Turf Hand Rolls * Miso Ice Cream
Like many have said... this place is literally a hidden gem. I wouldn't have even known about it unless some friends invited me to dinner there. Located on Lakeview Ave just north of Dundas... its a trendy "hole in the wall" diner with a non-descript entrance and little signage. Food (4.5/5) - menu is izakaya style so most suitable for a group of 3-4. Japanese pub type food but with good attention to flavour and presentation. - Moto Eggs - Japanese style deviled eggs, chicken skin chips, Ikura, pickled chilies, scallions, nori powder & Nanban sauce. These were good... nice texture and flavour. - Moto Bun - Hamamoto Japanese chicken curry, scotch bonnet slaw, pickled chilies & scallions on a coco bun. This was good too... nice mix of flavour and texture with chicken cooked just right. - Karaage Kid - standard karaage with a tartar dipping sauce - was average imo. - Enoki Mushrooms - interesting presentation and nice flavour and texture with the miso butter. Service (4.25/5) - friendly and fairly attentive. Place gets busy and the chefs and staff were hustling to keep up. Atmosphere (3.75/5) - it truly does have the "hole in the wall" feel to it lol. Darker with neon lights, open kitchen and small close tables. Think the tables are bit too small and not a ton of them as the space is fairly small. Overall (4.25/5) - definitely worth checking out and I will repeat to try out some more items on the menu.
A really cool Izakaya dampened by cold service. Hanmoto is unassuming yet interesting, thus the long wait for a table as they don't take reservations. They've got some interesting and incentive dishes, perfect for sharing. The seating, however, is quite cramped and uncomfortable (it's an Izakaya after all...) but outside of our waitress who was delightful, all of the staff were rude and grumpy for some reason: we got attitude from someone who tried to drop dishes we didn't order and even upon realizing she was wrong, she didn't bother to apologize, someone cutting onions in the hallway to the bathroom (yes, you read that correctly) was annoyed, even miffed, that I asked if I did indeed open the right door to the bathroom, and so on. Worth a try, but make sure to go in with thick skin.
Had a fun time at Hanmoto! The vibe feels like you're stepping into a steampunk, underground bar. The restaurant/bar is relatively small, and the outside is unassuming. I would have walked right past it had I not seen people coming out. The drinks here were really good! For food, we shared two small plates since we already had dinner prior. We had a ceviche and Japanese style deviled eggs (came sprinkled with bonito flakes, furikake and a fried wonton piece for some crunch). Both were great light bites. I believe they are open until 2am on the weekends. We got there around 11 and were able to snag the one open table; all others were full, so it's a lively spot to be at at night for sure!
Hanmoto is one of those spots that feels a little hidden, but once you find it, you keep coming back. The vibe is relaxed but still has a cool The food reall Service was friendly and easygoing, which matched the atmosphere perfectly. No pressure, just a good experience all around. Definitely a place I'd come back to, especially when I'm in the mood for something a little different but still comforting.
Absolutely loved my experience here! Staff was super nice genuine and friendly! The stuffed wings were huge and soooo amazing one of the best wings i've ever had!! Everything else we tried was also good. Amazing ambience very cozy and casual but also high quality & well curated! Miso nori ice cream i wanted to love but was a tad too sweet for my liking... tastes like a whole can on condensed milk but the nori and crunchy aspect was nice (almost there for me but toooo sweet)
Great little gem for a bite on a night out with friends. The restaurant had a red LED light on which made the vibe of the restaurant so cool and dark. They honestly had very limited spots inside the restaurant. We had a reservation made an hour before we went to ensure there was a spot for us. Service was great, the workers there were super nice and cool. As for the food, my table ordered the Moto Eggs, Enoki, and Miso Ice cream for dessert. To be fair, we actually ate our main dinner meal elsewhere then stumbled upon this little place and had to try this out. We didn't order a lot but it was a good taste test for us! I am personally not sure how the meal portion would be for a singular person who was hungry though. Seems small. We shared these amongst 5 people. Moto Eggs - these were so delicious. So much flavour in the eggs and the yolk was nice and soft. Loved these 5/5 small portion though Enoki - these were pretty good. I'm always a big fan of enoki mushroom. I just wish there was slightly more sauce on the mushrooms. 3.8/5 Miso Ice Cream - super yummy!! However for the price ($12), I expect a way bigger portion. Taste wise: 4/5 I'd love to come back and try their other things! Not sure if I would recommend this place if you're on a budget.
Japanese fusion is one of my favourite cuisines to try; every restaurant always puts its own twist on it. On top of the amazing food at Hanmoto, the intimate ambiance is what really sets the scene. I walk around the Ossington and Dundas area quite frequently, but could have easily missed the restaurant. Walking inside really transports you, with the food sealing the deal. Crispy chicken wings are hard to make special, and these did not disappoint!
This felt like a hidden spot that recently just reopened. We ordered steak, enoki mushrooms, and salmon dish. I really liked the mushrooms and steak as they were super flavorful. However, this place is soo dark and tiny that it felt a little uncomfortable. The server also a little overbearing and in our faces, so it was not the most pleasant experience, especially with the more expensive prices for such small portions.
Based on Google reviews, we arrived early around 5:57 PM (restaurant opens at 6pm) and there were already 3 parties ahead of us. We were seated immediately upon open, but the interior is quite small and consists of only about 20 seats so once the first round is seated, you're in for a wait. An hour in, we heard that the wait time was 1.5 hrs. I was excited to try an assortment of items from the menu so ended up over-ordering for 2 people. We had two Surf 'N Turf Handrolls which came with beef tartare, tako wasabi, hickory sticks, and a quail yolk. The shiso or perilla leaf along with the fragrant sesame oil made it such a unique and flavourful roll. I couldn't really taste the tartare over the wasabi flavour though. I highly recommend the Dyno Wings which are pork dumplings using a chicken wing as the wrapper. The skin was extremely crispy and the meat was juicy - my favourite dish of the evening. They come massive so they are very filling. The Moto Eggs are Japanese-style deviled eggs with fried chicken skin, nanban sauce, nori powder, and pickled chilis. The amount of umami in these bites were so intense, it has ruined deviled eggs for me as I will always crave this. The Katsu Bun contained a thick piece of panko crusted pork belly, katsu sauce, and soy remoulade in between a coco bun. This was delicious and my partner's favourite dish of the night, but because we had it last it was difficult to finish. We ended off the night with their miso ice cream, topped with arare and nori powder. The white miso and nori paired so well with the ice cream and gave it a salted-caramel concept. This is a must-try! Service was fast during the time we were there, and the interior gives off a grungy hole-in-the-wall vibe with old hip-hop playing in the background. Great spot for a date night or to hang out with some friends.
はんもと! Came here twice this year. First time I got their miso ice cream which was a thick block of really creamy and savoury dessert. Second time, I came to treat a good friend for his birthday and we shared the oysters, dyno wings, katsu bun, and enoki mushrooms. My favourites were the katsu bun, dyno wings (gyoza stuffed chicken wings- say no more!), and enoki mushrooms because they were so flavourful. I would not recommend the miso ice cream too much because it was quite heavy for a dessert. We also got drinks (I forgot which one mine was) but it was good. I do have to agree that everything is quite pricey for what it's worth and probably wouldn't return but I'm glad I came for the experience with some of my favourite people.
No signage necessary for this hole in the wall izakaya in Ossington. Worth the 2 hour wait. No reservations so come early to put your name on the list. Server was really nice and bubbly, made the experience better! Food: - Dyno wings were soo good, no idea how they made this but I'm still thinking of them. Crunchy and delicious. - Katsu sandwich in a coco bun, really innovative and flavourful. - Karaage special - 6 pieces for $16, bone in Japanese fried chicken. I didn't think it was that special, but a good deal. Drinks: - Tried the cocktail with cucumber (forget the name) but really good and refreshing! Overall enjoyed my experience at Hanmoto. It was intimate and had a cool vibe. Will return in the summer!

Unique atmosphere with a speakeasy vibe - makes you feel like you stumbled upon it accidentally peering down a rainy alley. The restaurant isn't too big and always packed but for the right reasons. The menu is like izakaya-style - snack size eats and it's all about shared plates there. The food was unique and delicious. Dyno wings and hand rolls are a must-try but everything on the menu is a knock-out. Cocktails were great and servers are friendly. It's hard to find anything bad about Hanmoto. Definitely a repeat and one of the go-to spots I take friends to when visiting Toronto! read more

I did not realize this was a sister restaurant to my favourite OddSeoul on Ossington, but after eating here, I might have a new favourite sister. Hanmoto did not dissapoint! I did not mind sitting next to a rice pot and seeing food being prepared at an arms length away because the ambience was just so cozy. It's like being at home, nothing formal about it. They keep it dark, with only a few sources of light, so you're not wondering how this place is a restaurant and not a garage. Again, this all adds to the experience and i'm not complaining. We ordered a sake on the server's recommendation but I didn't enjoy it at all, and a white wine. We shared the Karaage chicken special which was very tasty; dry rub on the chicken and a tangy dip on the side. The dyno wings were my favourite and i cannot wait to go back and have them again. Not pictured unfortunately, i should have waited for them to arrive! Salmon aburi was underwhelming, i wouldn't order it again. One thing i noticed immediately and loved about the service was that they kept replacing our napkins with fresh ones! Nice little touch. Towards the end, however, we were very rushed and basically handed the bill and two servers took turns checking on us to see if we were ready to pay. It was an unfortunate turn of events to what was by that point a great experience. There were still empty tables, no one was waiting - but i guess thats all part of the Hanmoto experience, don't get too comfortable so you'll want to come back soon! read more
This place is a must visit - felt like I got transported back to Japan after stepping in to a dimmed low key izakaya style spot! Incredible interior feel and the dishes were all shareable and spectacular. Must visit, near ossington! Great starter of a day food trip. read more
This is not your typical Japanese izakaya. The dishes they serve here is both unique and yummi. My favorite is their uni and salmon roe rice, their Dino Wings (stuffed drumsticks) and their miso ice cream! If you want to come here, make sure you come early!!! My 1st visit we had to wait for 40 mins as this is a pretty small restaurant. Try going there for 5:30 to 6:00pm. If you can not, then prepare to wait for while...but don't sweat!! They have other bars in the area that you can go to while you wait, they will ask for your number n call you when there is space... So not too bad!!! Hey at least you can turn your night into bar/restaurant hopping lol. Also when you try to get there the 1st time, you might not find it... It doesn't have a sign at the front.... Just know.. it's beside the Beer Store. You can't miss it!! Happy eating!!!! read more

Hanmoto is located around Ossington and Dundas, down a side street with a hidden entrance and no signage. It's easy to miss if you don't know what you are looking for. The restaurant space is small and has a hole in the wall/low key vibe to it. The decor is not fancy in any way but has a trendy/hipster vibe. The restaurant itself has around 20 seats or so so it does get filled up quickly. No reservations so come early if you can. I arrived at Hanmoto right when they opened at 6pm on a Wed night. The place got busier as we finished our meal. Being our first time there, the staff recommended we share 3-5 dishes between two people. We ordered 5 dishes to share. We ordered the moto eggs, the salmon aburi, dyno wings, and 2 orders of the moto bun. The moto eggs were a fusion Japanese version of deviled eggs - very unique flavours and highly recommend. Definitely a must try! The salmon aburi was also very unique and creative where it was like a DIY sushi taco kinda situation. The blowtorched flavours of the salmon stood out and the dish was fun to eat as you wrapped the salmon and rice in seaweed. The dyno wings were delicious as well as the pork dumpling filling stuffed inside the chicken wing was plentiful and moist. Lastly, the moto bun with chicken curry was interesting. The bun was definitely the highlight as it was soft, spongy, and held the chicken curry well. The slaw and chili peppers added a refreshing and spicy kick to the bun. I almost forgot but we also ordered the miso ice cream to finish! A unique taste and definitely a must order to try! Very shareable order. The miso ice cream was definitely salty and sweet at the same time. Overall, low key vibes, friendly staff, and delicious fusion Japanese food. Would definitely come back to try more dishes! read more
Such a great place with cool vibes. Came with 4 other friends and had a wonderful time. The staff is friendly, the dishes are shareable, and everything is reasonably priced. Between the 5 of us, we ordered: - Moto eggs - Hamachi tartare - Uni-bomb - Moto bun - Katsu bun - Nasu dengaku (aka eggplant) - Okra - Dyno wings and topped it off with the miso ice cream. After trying almost everything, I would highly recommend the eggs, the uni bomb, the buns, the dyno wings, and the miso ice cream. Will definitely be back soon! read more
Very cool Izakaya restaurant, delicious snack food and drinks! I absolutely love the vibe of this place, would definitely go back again. It's a small, dark ambiance bar. It's a popular spot, so expect to wait, especially during peak bar hours. We left our name and were called in less than an hour to have a seat. We got to sit right at the bar. I ordered the Salmon Aburi... twice. Definitely a snack bar and they say so, but it was just too delicious and I was too hungry. We also ordered the okra (a bit too spicy for me) and the miso steak, which had great flavour! I had the Arisaka Sour to drink. I loved it, it was very refreshing. Overall, my friend and I had a great time! The bartender and servers were very kind, personable and took the time to explain the dishes and made great recommendations. read more
Love, love! If you feel like trying something unique, you should hit up this Japanese izakaya place. This little spot is a hidden gem. If you aren't intentionally going here, you would definitely miss it because it's off on a side street with no signage. Despite this, it was at full capacity when we arrived at around 8pm on Friday. It took us about 20 mins to get a table for 2, which isn't too bad given that they take your number down. So you can walk around Trinity Bellwoods nearby to catch some pokemon while you wait. They had about four small (2-3 seat) tables and two 4-6 seat tables. No reservations so I would recommend to come with a small group to get a table quickly. Generally 3-4 dishes should be good for a group of 2 Ordered Dyno Wings ($10) - stuffed chicken wings. It was a nice twist with mince pork inside but not something I'll come back for again Hamachi tartare ($12) - citrus kick, raw fish and avocado just overall a lovely combination Moto eggs ($7) - Must try! They were just the best pop of flavour in your mouth and the crisp dried-fish flavoured chip added a great texture to it. Cocktails ($12 each) Cherry Bakudan - Very strong alcohol taste. I didn't like it too much North Town Nashi - Tasted like a whisky sour, I like it better but not something I'll rave about Bill came up to $60 for 2 + tip. I would say it's a great date spot for a bite to eat. I am interested to try more from the menu next time. read more

Breaded Chicken thigh bento box just horrible. The chicken was dry and the only edible item. Cabbage was swimming in creamy sauce absolutely disgusting, cucumbers side dish was not fresh and smelled. Rice was over cooked and you know you're in trouble when the rice was fail. The devil's egg did not try because I lost my appetite. FYI I'm a huge fan of Japanese cuisine. Tonight I was I was just looking for a nice quick meal. Unfortunately this was a bad experience and I'll be avoiding this place in th read more
Came to check this place out with a friend visiting from out of town. This was my first time trying out the place. We came in around 8:45 and the wait was almost an hour before we were seated. The place is quite small and does not fit large parties very well. Once we were seated, the waitress went over the menu and explained that the place was all sharing based tapas food. We ordered a number of things, from that list I would recommend getting the salmon Aburi, the Hamachi tartar and the Uni bomb was my favorite dish of the night. For all you Uni lovers out there, this is the dish for you. Overall, the food was fabulous, the service was great and the staff were friendly ! I'd highly recommend checking this place out! read more

The ambiance was definitely amazing. A great place to go and chill with friends. I got the Salmon Aburi and the salmon+sauce was good but the rice was somewhat hard so kind of disappointing. The miso ice cream was interesting. The rice balls made it crunchy and the miso made it salty. So crunchy, salty, creamy. After awhile I got tired of eating it. Maybe yelp folks hyped it too much for me. Price wise well you already know it's expensive for the portion but it's tapas so it expected. read more
So the food here is actually fantastic. But there are some reasons why I might head elsewhere instead of coming back: the too-loud music, the service, the long wait time to get a table. The first time I tried coming to Hanmoto, there was an hour and a half wait, and I ended up eating elsewhere. Came back another night and the restaurant was pretty much bare. We asked if we could sit at one of the benches/bigger tables, and were told that we had to sit at a small one. The whole time we ate there, no one else came into the restaurant, and no one else was using the big tables. It definitely would have been a more comfortable dining experience if the server had granted our request. Ordered the hamachi tartare, eggplant, salmon aburi, and moto bun. All of these were absolutely delicious and well presented. We also got the miso ice cream, but I didn't enjoy it much. Found it to be too salty. read more

Hello fellow earthlings. Came here on a recommendation from a friend. Great ambiance- loved the design. It felt like the indoor design was meant to look like outdoor food stalls. Dark/mood lighting made it hard to photograph food nicely- but just take my word that it was incredible. I particularly loved the dumpling stuffed wings and the deviled eggs. read more

I've had this place bookmarked for YEARS. I finally ate here and it did not disappoint! We ordered: Surf n turf hand roll (made the mistake of sharing just one! MUST TRY) Moto bun Katsu bun Dyno wings (saw lots of pics of this on yelp and it's not just hyped up it's honestly so good, MUST TRY) Miso ice cream Salmon aburi Everything was really good. Personally I think everything was fairly priced. Obviously when you order a lot it starts to add up.. so overall it was somewhat of a splurge. But we were full and completely satisfied. Looking forward to the day I come back! I wanna try to miso steak read more
Such a cool place to eat dinner! The inside was so eclectic, but it made for a really fun vibe. The servers were attentive and happy. The food was also unique and delicious. We tried the Moto Eggs (chicken skin, ikura, pickled chilis, and nori powder). So many flavors and textures that just went together really well. Definitely recommend! We also had the Dyno Wings (stuffed chicken wings), which were also a delicious staple on the menu. We then had the Uni Bomb, which again had that combo of crispy and squishy and salty. The uni was fresh and the bowl worked out really nicely. The miso ice cream was really cool! It was like a log. It was not super salty. Definitely worth trying as well. We would definitely come back! read more
This is one of my favourite spots in Toronto! The place is very cool, and feels like a hidden gem (except for the fact that you should probably expect a wait!) I would recommend the Surf & Turf hand roll, Moto Eggs, the Hamachi Tartare, Oysters, and my friends enjoyed the dyno wings immensely! The Dyno wings came in a take-out paper box, and are stuffed with pork dumplings. I would also recommend trying the cocktails, as it's a great place to sit and have a drink. The ambiance is very cozy and intimate, definitely a great date spot! read more

A must try in the Ossington area for me. It's a Japanese izakaya-style restaurant. I love the interior - although small, it's hip and fun. Don't expect lots of room - most of the seats are cramped and close together. Salmon aburi: I've never had aburi salmon like this before. It's a lump of rice with salmon pieces surrounding it (dome-shaped), and it's torched. You use the seaweed provided to wrap up bites. Tastes pretty good, although I prefer aburi oshi sushi, this was a fun take on it. Hamachi tartare: Not bad, portion wise. Lots of sourness and chilies mixed with the chunks of hamachi. Dyno wings: Two giant stuffed wings, deep fried and crispy. They put some sort of dumpling at the end of a wing tip so that it looks like a giant drumstick. One per person is more than enough! Juicy and delicious. Miso ice cream: this was my favourite item of the night. A must-order for me if I come again. The flavour of this ice cream is nothing I've ever had before, and I've tried a ton of ice creams. It's slightly salty, very creamy, and a bit sweet. It's covered in seaweed flakes as well as crispy rice which gives it a nice crunch. SO GOOD! The fun atmosphere along with the fusion dishes bring this place up to 4 stars. I wouldn't say the food is amazing, but it's pretty good for Toronto Japanese food! Come early because it was packed by 6:30 pm. read more

After a recommendation from a friend and an adventurous walk to little Portugal, we arrived at this hole in the wall style restaurant. There are no signs outside; just a boarded wall, a metal door, and what looks like a shed on the side. But low and behold when you open that door, you arrive at a quaint little bar, some small tables by the windows, and 2 wooden benches off to the side for larger groups. The menu houses about 15 items, and some daily specials that the servers will explain in detail when you're ready to order. We arrived hungry, so we ordered dyno wings, moto eggs, uni bomb, natsu dengaku, grilled hamachi collar (daily special), smoked mackerel (daily special) and miso ice cream to share for 3. As for drinks, we each ordered arisaka sour (oh man was this good. Its like alcoholic spa water. Mmmm) Everything was delicious; the dyno wings had a super crispy exterior. Moto eggs were amazing - it literally disappeared into our mouths the moment the server put the plate down. The crunchy chicken skin paired so well with the devilled eggs and the hot pepper. As for the natsu dengaku, I never knew I liked beets so much until I tasted the deep fried beets on top of the savoury eggplants. You have to get this!! As for the daily specials, both of them were AMAZING. The mackerel wasnt fishy like a lot of the other places I've tried. The rice is flavourful and they included small pieces of seaweed sheets for you to wrap the mackerel in - what an amazing idea. The grilled hamachi collar was massive and delicious. It was juicy, savoury, spicy and sweet; it all depends on what you eat it with! I would give all the thumbs up in the world for this dish. All in all we had a great time here. Come early cause spots fill up extremely fast (the place only has like 4 tables + 2 longer benched). The prices for food is slightly expensive if you order for yourself, but reasonable if you plan to share multiple dishes with friends. Highly recommend. read more

Cool vibe. Wings were overly salty - we've tried before and this wasn't the case earlier. The stuffing was the culprit, it was really really salty, especially mixed with the already salty glaze. The katsu bun was better. The pork was nice and juicy with a great crisp crunch. The mayo on top was a bit heavy though. read more
This place is great, but I might be understating things. Dishes ordered : Moto eggs - just order this one - you will suffer order regret if you don't. Salmon Aburi - I loved the DIY aspect of this dish - it was just fun to assemble and eat. Dyno Wings - this one was good - but I didn't enjoy it as much as the Moto Eggs or the Salmon Aburi Moto Bun - I personally felt that this was a miss in comparison to other dishes - it didn't stand out as much as the others. I did like the spicy kick in it, but overall - I would give this one a miss. Natsu Dengaku - this was good, decent balance of flavors; however didn't stand out as much as some of the others dishes. Cocktails Arisaka Sour - this was sooo good and refreshing. I loved how it tasted and it was very well made. Cops & Rabas - this is a wonderful cocktail to start your meal - it is very citrusy and just a slight hit of sourness to get the tastebuds going. Space : Seating allows for only about 22/25 people give or take. We got here just after opening and we were lucky enough to snag two of the four seats at the bar. Note: this place is the type of place you bring on the nights you can/want to do something different and on a night you want to relive your life before kids. Lighting is dim to dark, unless you are sitting at the seats in front of the prep bar - where the lighting is slightly better. Service is friendly and the pacing of the food is well-timed. If you are two people - they do recommend about 4/5 dishes - so ratio-expect to order about two dishes per person give or take. Pricing - including the alcohol just under $90 - for us; which overall is extremely reasonable. Overall - yeah - kid-free night, I am coming back. read more

Probably my favourite restaurant in Toronto. Such a little hidden "secret". The outer exterior is quite hard to find, I remember my first time being like "is this it?". But once you get in, there almost a rustic cyber punk vibe to it. Dino-wings is what i always tell people to order, while it's not the best item on the menu, it's just kinda cool that the dumpling is inside the wing. Miso ice cream is a must eat and you can almost never go wrong with anything on the menu. The space is tiny though, maybe seats 20 people max. So expect to wait unless you're going right when it opens (which is not a bad idea at all). read more

This place is a hidden gem !!! Love the atmosphere of this restaurant and of course the food is amazing !! We had: -dyno wings - salmon Aburi - okra - uni bomb If possible, you should try everything on the menu lol. Everything we had was so yummy. The dyno wings are a must-try, it's chicken wings stuffed with dumplings. If you like okra- you must order this dish. It's seasoned so well and very tastey!! I definitely recommend this restaurant if you have not been here yet. read more

5 stars give to Miso Icecream, if there are 6 stars I'll give 6... It's like nothing you've ever had. The marriage of sweet and savoury flavours work perfectly. The icecream itself has miso in it, and sprinkled with dry seaweed. Other dishes we tried and loved: fried wings and the moto bun. Fried wings have a lot of batter but it is flavourful and crunchy. Highly recommend! Atmosphere is great for dating (especially first few dates). Light is dim, and you do feel like you are in one of those alley bars in Tokyo. Also: DO NOT ORDER Hamachi Tartare. It is a disaster dish. Fish doesn't taste fresh, and TOOOO much toppings, just way too much. read more

Great food. Really cool vibe and decor. Good beers I like the ace hill in cans and Brooklyn lager on tap. We tried the salmon, hamachi and uni bomb from the raw menu. Favourite was the hamachi but all were fantastic to be honest. The fried eggplant was tasty too. We also ordered the wings - with the pork/scallion dumpling fused into the drumstick. Pretty epic! Their sweet soy sauce was awesome on the salmon - which came with wasabi, seaweed and little crispy chicken skin chips. I think we got lucky with the seating - showed up at 8pm and happened upon a great table open for the 4 of us. The rest of the evening a constant stream of people arrived to a full restaurant. They left their cell numbers and were called back when space opened up. Not a big space and definitely popular. read more

O-M-G!!! I'm literally writing this as I walk out from Hammoto out of excitement - I think I found my a new favourite!!! This is definitely a hidden gem, the restaurant seems to be reconstructed from a house (I could be wrong). The space is fairly tight and it feels a lot like the street tapas in Japan. The food is absolutely AMAZING. Each bite is packed with flavours that just explodes in your mouth. Cocktails are some of the best I've had. Hands down my new fav Japanese tapas in Toronto. It SO rare to find a place with amazing food AND superb drinks. Oh and did I mention that it's very decently priced? I'm SOO happy to have found this new gem THANK you fellow Yelpers!! Definitely recommend the Uni Bomb - it's the bomb!!!!! The fried chicken special is A MUST but not on the menu so go soon before they sell out. read more
