As a Fan of Hank's with multiple visits. I'm worried after today's visit. Many items and beers on the menu are not available. Scratching menus and beer selections is Tacky. Love that Hank's moved into this spot of Rt. 42. I have seen this building be many things, but I think that Hank's will be a keeper. They did a lot of work to refurbish the place. It is a beautiful building. Everything on their menu sounded amazing. I ended up getting the 2-meat plate with brisket, sausage, collard greens and cornbread. It was all delicious. The brisket didn't look like much on the plate and was an additional charge but it was actually more filling than it looked with the sides. We also tried their fried pickles. The ranch dipping sauce was very good. They have a few arcade games, shuffle board, a bar, regular table dining, and tables for larger groups. The service was fantastic. Hank's Texas BBQ provided one of my favorite BBQ experiences yet, combining a great atmosphere with incredibly friendly service. As someone who is gluten-free, I was thrilled to find that almost all of their amazing, flavor-infused sauces are safe to eat, with the exception of the teriyaki. The loaded corn cakes and my husband's burger were both delicious, and the fries had that perfect, nostalgic "fair fry" taste. Though they were out of the smoked brisket, the subbed chicken was still excellent, and I'm already looking forward to a return trip to finally try that brisket! read more

Delicious food! First we started with the queso dip appetizer, a little thin but tasty. Fried pickle chips were good because the pickles actually tasted fresh and chunky. I had the loaded corn cakes which were a zesty combination. My husband and another friend chose the two meat entrees. Favorite sides were the beans and Mac and cheese. Jalapeño sausage,ribs and pulled pork were fantastic. Another friend enjoyed the Steve's way corn cakes. At first our entrees did not look like a lot of food But we were full when we left. It's great to see a new bustling place in this location as I have passed it for years hoping something new would go there. I just can't give it 5 stars yet because of speed of service. Michelle our server was wonderful! She moved all night. It was the missing steps or staffing when it came to busing tables. We were there from 5-7:30 total on Friday evening. In that time multiple tables were left with dirty dishes, including ours. I have worked in the restaurant industry so it is something I noticed. An easy solution would be to have the kitchen delivery people pick up something as they walk by or the staff that we got to watch stand and take a drink at the soda machine. The food is amazing. There are 4 styles of BBQ in Texas. What Hanks serves is closer to the East version (Houston). The owner lived in Texas and sourced his equipment specifically from Texas. Before you go in thinking you KNOW Texas BBQ because you lived there, be sure you actually know there are several styles from the state you came from. Now, the food. This was our first trip to Hanks on 42. The food is just as delicious as it is in Clintonville. In fact, we felt it was somehow better. Our food came out very fast. We also had no wait. Our waitresses (we had 2!), were very thorough and we were well taken care of. All of the meat was extremely tender and melt in your mouth worthy. Seasoned very well, you can eat it with one of their sauces but it's not a miss if you go without! The corn bread was delicious (though we suggest the loaded versions). The BarBquetery board (probably misspelled) gives you a bit of everything meat-wise to taste. We had enough left over for additional meals throughout the week. The Mac and cheese is our favorite side. Very creamy and delicious. The atmosphere at the US 42 site is relaxed. It looks very different than their other spot in Clintonville. It is also far more spacious, which helps with the noise. Honestly, that was the detractor for us at the Clintonville location, smaller and far too noisy. The bar area is beautiful, I wish I would have nabbed a photo. Very Texas themed. The US-42 location also has several TV's, games, and TouchTunes. It also offers an outdoor section that looks like it would be a great place to hang out when the weather warms up! We got there around 12 on a Sunday. We were immediately sat. As a former Texan, I can tell you: this place can only be called Texas BBQ because they offer brisket and it's a predominantly salt and pepper rub. That's about all the similarity you're getting. I agree with the other 2 star review. The meat was unbelievably fatty, and while fat is flavor, this wasn't rendered. The mouth feel was mealy. My platter came with a too-tight brisket and two small ribs - but honestly I couldn't have eaten more than that anyway because of the unrendered ribbons of fat. Greens were basic. Beans were oddly stewed and not flavorful. Also an order of fried jalapeños were inedible -- way too spicy because they contained all the seeds and the batter was lumpy and flavorless. All in all, this Ohio standard fare. Mid at best. The wait staff was extremely nice though. read more

We arrived at 3:55pm on Saturday evening and there was already a line stretched out of about 10 couples/families waiting at the door. We were let in promptly at 4:00 and seated quickly. My husband and I opted to sit at the bar. There were 3 bartenders/servers ready and willing to take our orders or just let us have some drinks and watch sports at their many TVs. We ordered the dip appetizer and I loved the guacamole while my husband loved the pimento dip. Dinner arrived and Wow the brisket is a hands down winner!! Melt in your mouth. Also if you like spicy, go for the jalapeño cheddar sausage. I will be going back just for this. As for sides, green beans-yes, potato salad-if you like mustard based, Mac and cheese-creamy and cheesy. The inside is beautiful and from what I saw the patio looked nice. The food was great and a definite need in the area as there isn't really any good bbq nearby. It's close to Ostrander Powell Dublin and just in a great spot. This was my second visit to Hank's. The first was shortly after they opened so I didn't comment on that visit as they need time to work through the usual problems any new business experiences. My visit on 12-19 was a disappointment. I had the 1 meat with 2 sides. I paid the extra $3 for the brisket, which was three strips of meat, mostly fat, that was way too salty. Each strip was maybe four inches long and 1 1/2" wide. Because of the excess fat, I counted how many bites of brisket I actually got once I removed the fat. It was seven. My sides were the baked beans with burnt ends and the Mac and cheese. Both were very good. Service was excellent. All in all, the sides and service pulled the experience up from one star to three. Will I give them another shot? Not sure yet. If the other meats are like the brisket, the answer is no. But I guess I won't know until I go back. read more

Came on Sunday afternoon. In complete fairness to them they provided ample warning that they were out of most of their meet. That should have been a warning to us to leave and try it again another time. Our server was very good. Never got to the bottom of my drink. The place itself is new and they did a nice job with the facilities both inside and out. Well let's get to the food. My wife tried the brisket (one of only two meats left to serve) She had the burnt end beans and mac and cheese. I had the same sides but ribs (the only other meat available). My wife could not really eat half of the brisket due to it having so much fat! Not much meat in what was served. The ribs were three little bones. I want to stress little. The burnet end beans did not have one burnet end in them. Not sure if that is the intent or not. We did enjoy the mac and cheese. So for the two of us with one meat plates and soft drinks. $42. I cannot say it was worth the money. After asking about the brisket, the server did bring some other brisket meat out to us to take home. I am surprised with the other reviews already left. I have always enjoyed taking the family to Hanks Texas BBQ. The food is great, the atmosphere is solid, and it is a place I have recommended to others. Unfortunately, today's visit was a significant disappointment. While a young server was setting a plate down in front of my wife, the coleslaw that had an unusually large amount of juice splattered across her entire outfit. It was not a small drip. It was clearly noticeable and immediately frustrating. It was also clear he saw it happen because he set the plate down in front of her and saw it, the whole table did. I am also not sure why a side of coleslaw would be served as half vegetables and half a dish of juice. That is not how coleslaw is supposed to be served. Despite this, the server did not acknowledge the splatter and walked away without saying anything. When I informed another staff member, the response felt very indifferent. There was no apology, no sense of urgency, and no effort to address the situation beyond offering wipes. Another employee asked who the server was, but nothing happened after that. Which I am not sure what the point of asking was and typically a manager would walk over and check in. The lack of acknowledgment and basic customer care left us feeling dismissed. It affected our meal and our overall experience. We packed up early because it was clear the situation was not going to be addressed. We have had good visits in the past and this restaurant has potential, but today's experience makes it difficult to imagine dining in again. A simple apology and a bit of ownership would have made all the difference. read more

Our wait wasn't too long even though it was super busy. Our food was delivered fast and hot! Everything tasted great! The brisket was a little fatty. The parking is a little nuts but only bc so many people are excited to try it. I would suggest maybe offering straws with paper covers instead of having the waitresses handing them to you and touching them. Very disappointed in the two meats I. I ordered brisket and ribs. Both were overcooked, dry. The bark on both of them which was basically black pepper was literally hard as a rock. I had to use a knife to cut through them. As a displaced souther I can say I've eaten barbecue, with my hands, from Texas all the way through the Carolinas and southern Virginia. Very disappointed in the meat here. The only saving grace for me, and why I gave it three stars and not less, we're both the beans and the greens. While both were a different take on those items that you find in the south, they were quite good. We were a party of six and no one really found the meal that good. They tried to shoehorn us into a 2-top between two 4-tops that were amply occupied by 8 people and when we understandably resisted this arrangement we were relocated. Strike two. As we waited to be approached by wait staff we got the undeniable impression that the shutdown/cleanup protocol had been initiated and we were surrounded by a flurry of staff slinging chairs, sweeping the floor and generally leaving us with a poor dining experience. Strike three. Ultimately we were served passable food from the appetizer menu, paid our $40 bill and are exceedingly likely to never return.
