A great stop for beer lovers. Friendly small pub in downtown Delaware. Beautiful wood bar and super helpful staff. No food offerings but staff was quick to suggest local options easily within walking distance. The beers were very good. I enjoyed their ESB then a Hefeweizen. Both well made and tried to style. Kind of a bummer to miss their cask offering for the week as it tapped out the night before. The city was so nice that we'll be back and I'll try the cask at that point. read more

Where to start...we love Staas. We love everything about this brewery. It is owned by a phenomenal husband and wife team. Donald and Liz treat us like old friends every time we stop in. It feels like home to us when we walk through the door. They brew such delicious beers, but the beer that keeps us coming back is their ESB (English Extra Special Bitter). Do not let the word bitter scare you away. They have hands down the best ESB I have ever tasted. The perfect maltiness complemented by the smooth mouthfeel. It is an easy drinking English beer. I can sit and drink it all day long in fact, I have done that, and that made for a stupendous day. Pre-COVID Staas would have food trucks in the evening.  But this is post-COVID and we do not need a reminder that our world is different.  Staas currently is not having food trucks. After talking to Donald, he mentioned the lack of food trucks is by design.  His thought is it encourages his patrons to support locals restaurants in the area if they want food with their Staas pint. That is exactly what we did, we supported a local restaurant while having a beer at Staas.  What a thoughtful decision by Staas. I highly suggest next time you are in Delaware, you get a to go pizza from Mohio and a pint of ESB at Staas. You will not be disappointed. Say hi to Liz and Donald for me too.  Cheers! read more

Staas is the better known Delaware brewery. It has pretty good beer. This has been around a few years. It's pretty cramped at the bar. There's a few outdoor seats and indoor tables. I had the Baumholder. It's a German style beer. This is about $5 for a pint. It's served in a traditional biergarten style glass. This has hints of banana and pepper. It's best served with a lemon. This helps bring out taste. It's not that big inside. It doesn't have a menu. They often have food trucks. read more

Staas is the perfect little neighborhood pub stop for a cold fresh draft. Whether on your way home from work, wanting to watch the big game or just stopping by before or after dinner, it is a small little place with a friendly staff. We stopped in for quick visit New Year's eve. They have a great selection of drafts to attract any beer lover. Note they do not have wine or any other option, but it is a brewery. As a group we tried several 'flavors' including: Bourbon Oaked Stout, Belgian Golden, German Kolsch, and their ESB. There is limited bar and table seating, but if you are willing to wait around, the tables turn fairly quickly. We had a fun night there and appreciated the staff and other patrons. Cool place. We stopped here during the ale trail. We had the place to ourselves because we got there at open. Bartender was super nice and knowledgable. I enjoyed their saison. This is my fourth time here. Thanks CBus Ale Trail. These guys haven't gotten it together. Nothing is balanced or sits on the palate as is should. IPAs are malty. The styles are not what they should be. Between my wife and I, we could even finish a taster flight. Leaving beer behind is just something that I never do as a beer lover. However, at Staas I left beer behind. Maybe one day they'll grow up as a brewery? PS. Gordon Biersch makes far better beer. read more

Great beers on tap. This is an English style pub. They always have their pub ale on a beer engine. You have to try the Germanweizen with a slice of lemon, it will change your life. They always introduce holiday special beers. This year they have a sage IPA. It may sound odd but it just works. They have a smaller room off the main room which has a dart board and shuffleboard. The owner is a baseball fan so the Indians game will always be playing. As a bonus Maanas Indian food truck is a regular. First of all, we walked right past this place as we were trying to close the day of our ale trail adventures and had to walk back to find it because it wasn't very clear that it was there. When you walk inside, it feels a bit old timey with the wood everywhere and wooden bar. They have a back room which we went and hung out in to play shuffleboard. They had a dart board up which I was pumped about but when I asked for darts, they said they don't use the dart board anymore so that was disappointing. The IPA I had was tasty. No cider for the gf and it seemed like a pretty limited beer menu or should I say just not a lot of mainstream type options to choose from. When we left, it was definitely packed so probably enjoyed much by locals! read more

Disclaimer, I am not a beer drinker but I do appreciate a laid back friendly bar where creating hand crafted beer is a top priority. Stass Brewing company is one of those places. This is actually the place where I dare say, I learned to enjoy a good pint of beer. Now that is saying something. Beer selection is large and changes through the season. I think my favorite was the Tripel, a Belgium style beer available in the colder months. I also enjoyed the Apricot Wheat, great beer for sipping while sitting on the patio. Owner Liz, works behind the bar she is welcoming, friendly, and will answer any questions you have about the available beers. Really like a beer? You can also bring their beers home by purchasing a growler. What to sample each beer? You can do that too! This place only serves beer, and only their beer. Okay, I am not a beer drinker and definitely know little about craft beers. So, I ventured here one afternoon with a group from work. What a fun experience! The brewery is owned and ran by a local couple who have a passion for craft beers. They have 12 beers on tap and recently added two English beer engines, (hand crank). Liz gave us a tour of the facility while she and her husband, Donald, explained much about the brewing process and history of their little brewery. I enjoyed the experience because I learned more about beer. They specialize with Belgian and German craft beers. After the brief tour, I had a sampler of 4 different craft beers. My samples included their German Weizen, the Double IPA, Belgian Quadruple and their seasonal Vanilla Porter. My favorite is their Belgian Quadruple. The Quad went down real smooth and has a rich, hearty flavor. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I bought my first growler! Growlers are $5 for the glass and then the cost of the craft beer that you select. Liz & Donald were great as they took time to answer all our questions. You can tell they have a great passion for their beer making from their enthusiasm. I'd definitely drop in again to see what they have on tap. read more

Stopped by Staas again tonight, helping them celebrate their 1 year anniversary in Delaware. I have to say, so far there have been no diminishing returns from this amazing brewery! Tonight I tried two different beers. First, I had the Cinnamon Basil Saison. It was a special brew they tapped for the occasion, and it didn't disappoint! It was a light, summery beer, but full of taste and perfect for a warm July evening! Second, I tried the cream ale. It was a bit heavier and it served me well as a "last beer of the night" offering. A delicious choice, to be sure. The brewery offers 10-12 selections that rotate in and out occasionally. Truly, you can't go wrong with any of the selections. And if you're stuck, I'm sure the owners, Donald and Liz, would be more than happy to offer up a suggestion and a taste to help you make up your mind! They're kind, fun people who are working hard to make an impression on the Delaware community, and they will certainly help make your night out on the town more enjoyable! We've been in here 3 times and each time the male owner literally seemed bothered he had to actually do something. The female bartender was friendly the first time we were in here, the 2nd and 3rd time not so much. The beer is average at best and that's being generous, especially given the friendliness of the staff. There won't be a 4th time that's for sure. read more

Wow! This is in Delaware! Amazing! Great beer. Simple beer menu. The beer is an excellent example of fresh locally made craft beer. It is a real conversation starter! The bar and ambiance would be at home in an upscale area of Tokyo, but is incredible for Delaware. To add to that, they had nice bathrooms and the Reds game on. The only improvement I could suggest would be to have a football match on the TV...I mean, c'mon...the Crew were playing that night. read more

Ended up at this brewery since it is along the Columbus Ale Trail. I live in the city of Columbus so this was a trek out to visit but definitely worth it! The ambiance of the bar was nice, there were a variety of odd tables (i.e a kitchen table etc) which made it easy for a larger group of people to sit down and enjoy. They also had a small patio and bags of pretzels to order with your beers. The IPA was my favorite that I tried, it was not too hoppy and in my opinion, better than most of the local breweries around. They also have shuffle board and darts in a spin off room of the bar which we played and made a few new friends too! All in all a fun place definitely worth a try! read more

Staas is your neighborhood brewery tucked away in the historic downtown of Delaware. It is cozy and old-school with a large wood bar, wood dining room tables (literally), and baseball on the tv. Felt more like a bar my dad would frequent than a bar I enjoy as a 20-something but the atmosphere was friendly. They price each beer sample individually so a 'flight' is whatever you want it to be. I love it when breweries do this so you can try as much as you would like! I really enjoyed the IPA - it was smooth, fruity, and less bitter than most. I love saisons but theirs is a little more on the 'spicy' side. The apricot wheat was a huge surprise - not too apricot-y and almost a sour - a great summer beer. The Belgian quad was also solid. The other seasonal was a spruce ale and I thought it was too minty but my husband enjoyed it. Staas has good brews but not the atmosphere I usually enjoy for a brewery. read more

I'm new to the brewery scene, so take my review lightly. This was only the 3rd or so brewery I've ever been to, and I'm just starting to learn about beer, so I'm not very knowledgeable on what's normal/acceptable/etc. I visited this past weekend with my brother, my dad, and my husband. They're all beer drinkers. There weren't as many options as I thought there would be, but everyone found something to try. I had the Wildcat Sally, which I liked a lot. It had a good flavor. I was a little surprised when my brother ordered the tasting for it and the bartender gave him a full glass, but I liked it so whatever. My husband ordered the Double IPA and liked it, but didn't have a second one. My brother ordered the Baumholder and liked it, in looks it reminded me of lemonade. I don't remember what my dad ordered but he did get a second one! The prices were reasonable. I thought that the customer service was lacking. No one greeted us when we walked in, even though they saw us come in. We seated ourselves and when no one came around to ask if we wanted a menu or let us know that we were supposed to order at the bar, my dad and brother went up to order. My dad took the two used glasses that were at our table and the bartender asked "ready for another round?" .....Uh, no. We just got here, so we'd like our first. It was neat inside, all the wood, but also VERY loud. Which only got worse when it started pouring outside and all the patio people came in. Including a dog. Is that okay? I'm a huge dog person but was a little surprised to see it seated at the table behind us. I know it's raining out but like...one person at our table is allergic. What if someone already inside was super allergic? That would've been a bad deal. I don't know. 3 stars because I can't complain about the beer, and that's the whole point of this place. But not a fan of the lack of direction/acknowledgment/customer service. Not sure if we'll return. read more

My wife and I stopped in to get a stamp on the Columbus ale trail. That whole district has an old small western town vibe and this was your neighborhood watering hole. I could see it was frequented by regulars. My wife did the Porter and I went for the oatmeal stout. Neither one was bad, but having been to so many brew pubs lately, we were not overly impressed with the house brews. The service was great, the fellow company was good, and the beer menus were fun. Staas is a quaint English style pub downtown. By far my favorite beer is their Germanweizen. Make sure you get it with a lemon wedge. It's the perfect summer beer. The place is small but they do have a few tables outside. On a busy day the place can really fill up. Sometimes they have food trucks but if they don't they're usually willing to let you bring in your own food. Their taps rotate pretty regularly so there is usually something new to try if you like. They don't ever run a Happy Hour or specials but with all the local regulars I guess they don't really need to. They're only open on Thursday, Frida and Saturday so their hours aren't the greatest but the great beer makes up for it. Parking can be a pain in Delaware but there is street parking around there and a lot behind the place. read more

Located in downtown Delaware, this is a true neighborhood pub where everybody knows your name. It's very comfortable and very tastefully done. Seating is limited, and it's almost always full. There are a few tables outside - great for the warmer months. They serve no food, but they do host several different food trucks, and there are great restaurants near by (Amato's pizza and Typhoon sushi are both great picks.) Liz and Donald Staas own the place and they know their customers. They are one of the nicest couples you'll ever meet, and they have a true passion for brewing that shines through. They specialize in Belgian and English styles, and they have some unique styles that also show up (including a Spruce Tip Ale). The "house ale" is an English Pale Ale which they serve on beer engine. Their English styles are good. Their Belgians continue to be the very best I've ever had. The Belgian Golden Strong ale is simply phenomenal and in my top 5 of beers ever. They also have a Belgian Quad that is truly special - also in my top 5. I haven't had another quad that even comes close. Their Saison is stellar, and their Wit is also the best Wit I've had. The service is always excellent. I will always hope for expanded hours too. :-) But I also get the fact that the scarcity is part of the appeal. read more
