Went buy some snowboards , it was a great experience. Hayden and Noah were awesome. The guys help us pick and recommend great gear. I definitely will come here again. This place is pricey but you get what you pay for. I don't expect snowboarding to be a cheap sport, so i have no gripes about the prices. Customer service was great as well as the selection. read more

Came into to look at snowboards after already getting one with the person I am dating. Did he leave with a new board? Yes. Did he also get sucked into buying new bindings? Yup. After purchasing it, they even put it on for free. The customer service here is unreal. I think a lot of people who haven't worked in retail would think of this as "being watched" but really...it's to provide the best service and the first line of defense for loss prevention. For being a local business, they have a lot of options. They are bound to have what you are looking for and everyone is really knowledgeable on the area they are working. Their return policies need work though. I will return for equipment and clothing. Love supporting local. read more

Rustin was awesome , I hope I spelled his name right. He took the time to let my son know what skateboard was proper for a beginner . The customer service here is awesome . Definitely will come back . read more

Got some new gear for my snowboard. They were super helpful in getting me the right bindings and snowboard boots. They were super knowledgeable and gave me a lot of options and even waxed my board. Love that this is a one-stop shop for all that I was looking for. read more

It was yet another successful visit to this store. The staff are very attentive and helpful but Colton at the snowboard departament truly made our visit a quick, comfortable, and easy success. We brought our vintage Burton board but he was still able to use his magic and just-right adjustments for the bindings to work. He was kind, knowledgable and very helpful so we could get all we needed efficiently. Not only that but we felt super welcomed to the store, we saved tons of money, and we got many quality items which were on sale. Thank you so so much to Colton and Hanger94 for such a great experience!! Looking forward to coming back :) read more

Great Inventory, great prices, family owned, this review is long overdue. I would highly recommend shopping here if you haven't and if you already have I'm sure you already know. read more

Came in to get some new snowboard bindings for the season and was helped by Tanner, upstairs. He is certainly the most knowledgeable, polite person I have ever been helped by in that store. This company should be happy to have someone like him on their team! Thanks Tanner! :) read more

Hanger 94 took care of me super tough today. I had a product that wasn't functioning as described and I brought it in and they took care of me no questions asked when it was apparent that the product was defective. Props to them, I'm stoked I have a local retailer that I can trust with my money when buying gear, highly recommend read more

Always had a good experience shopping here. I've found staff to always be helpful in suggesting or finding something I'm looking for. I've bought eveything snowboard related here and can't complain. Plenty of selection across brands from styles to quality levels to choose from. read more

Alex helped me find a wetsuit with ease and made my experience a great one. Would recommend going here if you need anything and Alex will give you all the details you need to make an informed decision. I also showed up close to closing time and I didn't feel rushed or pressured to make a decision at all by Alex. Highly recommend Hanger 94! read more

My boyfriend bought a new board and bindings today. My boyfriend likes to know every detail and know everything about the product before he buys. I think we were there for almost 2 hours and Colton was very knowledgeable and answered all his questions and gave great reccomendations! Thank you!! He loves his board and can't wait to hit the slopes!! read more

I have been a longtime customer of Hangar 94 with mostly good experiences and have spent literally thousands of dollars in this store. After many years of shopping here, to say that I cannot recommend this establishment any longer saddens me. My last experience included 3 different visits (driving 45 minutes to and from each time) trying to outfit my son with full snowboard gear (boots, bindings and snowboard). We purchased the outwear consisting of a jacket, gloves, face covering and pants in this store within the last 10 months. On our first visit we were told they couldn't get the gear from Burton in a timely fashion and recommended that we order it direct ourselves but to only order the boots and board and then to come back to the store buy the bindings from them since they had plenty of stock of bindings. They said as soon as the board came in to bring it in and they would then sell us the bindings and put them on for us. The board came within 4 days so we went back (second trip, again trying to give them business) to get the bindings and were told they didn't have any in stock (hard to believe they sold out of XL bindings in less than a week). Again they told us to order direct from Burton ourselves and to bring them back in and that they would still honor their word and put them on for us. We did as they recommended and ordered the bindings and they arrived within a few days. We went back AGAIN today for the 3rd and final time only to be told they would NOT in fact honor their word and would not install the bindings despite the fact we tried to give them the sale and the business in the first place and they refused to honor their word and put the bindings on. The manager was not only rude but adamant about not helping us despite all we did to work with them and all our past loyalty of supporting this local business. What a complete slap in the face and waste of my time and money being a loyal customer. I am BEYOND disappointed and disgusted that my efforts to support this business were met with such deplorable treatment and zero customer service. read more

Haven't been there in years till the other day... as soon as you walk in they follow you around like Hillary Clinton to a Ukrainian donation, it's pretty annoying. Dude in the skate department was cool though, I doubt I'll be back anytime soon. read more

Hanger 94 - Sports Wear Near Me - La Mesa, California

Great stuff, horrible return policy! Only exchange or store credit. I don't like not having a cash back option. Really cheapens the place.

I was so grateful to Hayden for helping me today make my 15 year old nephews bday a big success. He went over and above to find me the right items for curbside pick up. I highly recommend them and I was pleased to stay local as opposed to buying on line from someone random. I have always loved Hanger but now love them even more. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would, I don't know if they go out of their way to hire unenthusiastic and unfriendly employees but it sure seems that way. Shopping at Hanger is more of a hassle than a pleasure. It's not only embarrassing but pathetic that you can't get refunds back to the original form of payment. BE AWARE. read more

Went in to purchase a $300 wetsuit plus other related items for my grandson for Christmas and walked out without them. The guy who helped me seemed very knowledgeable. After I made my selections, I asked if i could return them if they weren't right for my grandson, and he said they could be returned. I went to check out and the salesperson at the desk said that Hanger 94 would only make exchanges or give store credit. With that policy, I couldn't take the chance that if the wetsuit didn't fit him, and he didn't find what he wanted there, he couldn't return it. Bad policy! read more

They have nice clothing brands but they are NOT size inclusive at all. Womens are xs-xl. Mind you, I saw 1 xl in the entire store. The mens section was even worse. Largest size they carried was an xl with a DESIGNATED XXL section with about only 5 xxl shirts? What? And then the worker said they have a separate section because they don't have a lot in that size. It's very apparent that they carry clothes for a particular type of person and that's it. Very disappointing. read more

I went to Hanger 94 this week to give this local business a try. Big mistake they are so over priced. I bought a couple shirts that end up not fitting. Their return policy sucks. The Manager/Owner Milo is not much better. I will never be back. I will be sticking to my go to place Claremont Surf Shop. read more

This store is amazing, not sure, why there is one negative review about it. Their selection on brands and items is on point. Impeccable organized and clean!!!! Pricing is super competitive as well!!! The employees were great! I noticed a recent comment about a sales person following her through the store, probably, because, they have such a huge selection of products and most consumers have many questions!!!! I highly recommend this shop if you are in need of any skate, snow or surf gear. Very impressed and will be back! Shop on! read more

Hadnt gone here in years and drive past it all the time. BD and I decided to check it out one day last week and within minutes I had ten items in my hand. Every brand you can think of, killer sales and awesome staff that were super helpful. No joke in 15 minutes we'd already rang up $200 on shirts and tanks hah! Definitely swing by here and check out all their stuff! read more

I called the store for some customer support, and was berated by the general manager. I did not appreciate that, so I asked to speak to his superior. He deflected the question of "when will he be in" and said i could leave a message and get a call back. The next day the general manager called me back and said that the owner did not care about my situation, didn't want to speak to me, and would not be calling me back. The general manager Mike Wise lacked all tact and did not know the meaning of customer support. I will never shop here again, and I persuade you to do the same. read more

Don't shop at Hanger 94! Recently I bought ski clothes at Hanger 94. They didn't have the size I needed, but I bought them as a backup. A week later I took the clothes back, unworn (of course), tags on, never taken out of my car. They would not give me a refund though on their website they had offered returns. That would be ok, but when we called the manager about it, he criticized me saying, "What are you nervous; why are you stuttering?" Really, making fun of a customer's stutter??? And he got personal saying that I probably can't do extreme sports. How can a general manager be like that? He also said the owner doesn't care and would not give me a call back. I am so disappointed with the insults and the lack of curtousey from one human being to another. I hope none of my friends/family will give this company business. read more

I will never shop here again. Which is sad because they do have a good selection. There costumer service is absolutely HORRIBLE! I bought my BF a shirt for Christmas. He loved the shirt, but we noticed right away that one of the buttons had fallen off. When we attempted to exchange the shirt, they did not have his size. Since he wanted to find the same shirt elsewhere, we asked to return the shirt. That's where the staff took a turn for the worse. The cashier told me that they did not accept returns. We asked to speak with the manager. The manager came up and immediately had a horrible attitude with us. We calmly explained that their store sold us a damaged shirt and we wanted our money back. He said that it happens and that their policy is no returns. I would understand if I bought an item and then changed my mind, but their store sold us a damaged item! Funny thing is that it is AGAINST THE LAW TO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS!!! Look it up Hanger 94! I dont know how they are getting away with this! The manager finally gave us a refund, but not without being a complete jerk to us both. I couldn't believe that a manager would treat costumers with such a bad attitude. Needless to say, we will not be returning. We ended up finding the same shirt online at Dogfunk.com for cheaper!! Don't go here! read more

Sometimes a good selection of shoes for 30 or so, but just as every other review states, the customer service is bad enough to want to make you lose your mind with the 'no returns' and them following you around incessantly. Lay off the stalking and learn how to treat customers. read more

Love this store. They have everything you need, all the staff are super helpful and friendly. Really wish I had found this store sooner it really is an awesome shop. read more

Customer Service was horrid. I've shopped here for years with never any issues. Then again, I've never had to return anything before. It appears all their efforts are focused on getting you to buy things, but definitely not on retention for issues. Today, I attempted to return some sandals that were defective (stitching was causing severe irritation/redness). Spoke with the manager John. He refused any responsibility and told me to contact the manufacturer. Would not give a refund / credit / exchange. He then ran his finger over the stitching and told me it was my foot that was defective. Long story short, they opted to have the customer work with the manufacturer rather than the retailer. If this is the case, I can go to the manufacturer or another retailer to purchase sandals. Sorely disappointed and will not return. read more

Good selection, maze-like layout of the store. Interesting observation: If I wear work clothes they treat me with contempt, if I wear beach or skate clothing, apparently my money is worth more as I get treated with respect. They need lessons in customer service. Don't try to ever return anything here, they don't like that idea. read more

big shout out to Emerson. He even helped me put my new fins on my board. Always very friendly people.

I have never been treated so poorly by any employee at any store ever before. Take me seriously when I say you MUST spend your money elsewhere, because these people are outrageously rude. In fact, I'm about to call the BBB to inform them of the disgusting customer service from this location. Again, if you're about to spend hundreds of dollars on sports equipment, PLEASE do not give Hanger 94 your business. They don't deserve it what-so-ever. read more

The people who work here are rude. Absolutely have no idea what customer service is. If I don't know what a product is and ask them to explain. Aren't they supposed to help? Instead of just saying "figure it out." Very displeased w/ the company and there workers. DO NOT COME HERE, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE read more

Hanger 94 is alright. The store is rather large, with towering clothing racks and a large selection of sunglasses. The problem is there are always more employees than customers in the store. While I appreciate customer service, and being asked if I need help, I hate being asked 6 times, by 6 different people as they watch me shop. Made me feel really uncomfortable, because it seemed like they thought I was going to shoplift. I usually just go to Sun Diego. They're chill there, and don't follow me around like flies on shit. read more

I have mixed feelings about this (and the Rancho) Hanger 94. As a skateboarder since 1995, I've been to practically every major skate/surf shop in San Diego. Hanger 94, by far, takes the cake for the inevitable employee-cockiness you can find at such stores. Not ALL of the employees are like this. But the ones that are is reason enough for my 2 star rating. I find it amusing how different I am treated as a customer there, depending on how I'm dressed. When I wear my skate clothes, it's all good. But a few times, I've gone after work in semi-formal attire and wow.. what a difference. Some (keyword: SOME) of the employees here definitely evaluate your worthiness/appropriateness as a customer. It's obvious and really annoying. Especially if you've been involved with the skate scene since the 90's. It should feel more like family, not a superficial High School Click. I will not be shopping at Hanger 94 again. PROS: Wide selection. CONS: Occasional poor customer respect and service. read more

I have been a loyal Hanger 94 customer for years albeit at the Rancho San Diego location, RSD no longer so now I go Grossmont for my Hanger fix. Fortunately I have not yet experienced such dissatisfaction with this store as those who authored the preceding reviews. Having braved Black Friday for a 25% discount on snowboard gear (a day I assume would bring out the very worst in retail employees) I must respectfully dissent. I applaud the staff for keeping their cool on such a hectic day; somehow they managed to maintain order amidst reckless shoppers scouring the racks and discarding unwanted items on the floor. All of the employees I encountered were pleasant, attentively offered assistance and graciously answered questions...at checkout the cashier thanked me for stopping by and for bringing my familial entourage (rightfully so considering we dropped some serious dough, regardless I appreciated the customer appreciation). Locally owned; the store is spacious and has tons of merchandise. Surf, skate, snow boards and equipment, gear and some great street-wear as well. Prices are competitive with most surf/skate shops. Only downfall is they don't sell anything Burton and as far as snowboards go, in my opinion, Burton is best. They say it's because Burton has become too corporate (obviously) but that doesn't stop them from carrying other big-name brands. I think it comes down to pricing (money makes the world go round) and they wouldn't be able to markup Burton items high enough to make a staggering profit. No matter though, Hanger 94 is a must-go when shopping for most things surf, skate, snow. read more

The good first... Amazing selection, it's like a gigantic toy store of skate/surf. Seriously they have so many brands and floor space. I had such a hard time waking out without spending a ton of cash! But here is why I didn't... We were greeted nicely when we came in, but the staff was on top of us like we were going to steal or something. It was the middle of the day, on a Monday and nobody was in the store so it's possible they were just bored, but we were checked on like every 2 minutes and staff was suspiciously always nearby. I'm in my thirties as is my gf, we were dressed well and I've never stolen anything since my mom made me return a candy bar when I was 12... I've read other reviews with people saying similar things and one person citing race as a possible reason, we'll I'm as white as they come and my gf is half fillipino, so maybe it was her they were worried about but I highly doubt it. I think they are just overly cautious and it leads customers to feel uncomfortable. And that's how I would describe it uncomfortable. The prices are not amazing on the primary inventory but we saw some crazy good deals on closeout items and they have allot of it available. I'm going to give them another chance, because as I said maybe they were just bored and way overstaffed for a Monday mid day. I want to pickup another Nixon watch and some clothes that I really wanted! If the next time I go I feel more comfortable in the store I will update this review. AS PROMISSED I WOULD GIVE THEM ANOTHER CHANCE: I went back to hanger 94 yesterday with my two sons 11 and 13 and experienced the same thing if not worse. It's gotta be how the staff is trained and managed. I've never experienced anything like this before. The selection is awesome, love the brands it's a shame I'll never shop here again, but there are simply too many great skate/surf shops in the area to spend my hard earned cash someplace that makes you feel this unwanted. You would think stores like this need repeat business. read more

Horrible customer service. Wasn't aware of return policy was exchange or store credit only until we tried to return some gear that was still new had tags on and everything wasn't used just didn't fit right when we got home to try out our full outfits. Cashier treated us like we were lying about not using the items, was asking a whole bunch of questions about when was the last time we went boarding to try to get us to say we used or wore them and then gave us attitude the whole time when we picked new items to exchange. Was being really forceful with bagging the items and shoved them into the bag the female employee was holding for him. Then threw the receipt and pen on the table and said "sign it" with attitude. When asking which brands or recommendations for gear all they say is pretty much "they're all the same, just different colors" no help at all and they definitely make you feel dumb shopping there especially being a beginner snowboard rider not knowing really what to get. Definitely not going back to that store. read more

Just stepped in to browse the place but didn't buy anything. Seems like a pretty cool place with willing to help employees. Has an array of clothes and accessories. There's a pretty cool board shop up stairs and plenty of winter gear. Yes I have become a fan without even buying anything yet. *UPDATE* Never shopping there again. Prices are NOT competitive. Return policy is almost nonexistent. You're better off going somewhere else. I just go there to see what's new and buy elsewhere (yes, even online). If they're not willing to be competitive and have a better return policy then my business belongs elsewhere. read more
