I loved the customer service that was provided while I was shopping. One guy admitted he didn't know much about snowboarding so he referred us to someone else. But the original guy still checked up on us. I've been to hanger 94 several times and have always had a great experience. I love the selection in clothing they have and love checking out the snowboarding gear they carry. read more

this is not your typical "elitist board shop". Mike and the crew here are AWESOME but most of all above and beyond helpful. Whenever I'm in the area I make sure to stop by and check the latest gear from core companies like RVCA, Vissla, and Salty Crew just to name a few. Thanks again guys! See ya soon! read more

I have lived in San Diego for 4 years and this place is a gem for outdoor activities equipment. Their snowboards were priced really well and all of the employees were more than willing to assist me with finding the right board for me. read more

My buddy had been telling me to come here for over a year. I just kept forgetting to go until my wife found it and decided to take me. I walked out of there really happy with all my new snowboard stuff, some new shirts, and a new wetsuit for my toddler and one for my wife. Everything was a decent price and there were tons of sales rack items to look through. The staff were all really cool and helpful. read more

Huge selection! Maybe the biggest selection of surf boards in San Diego. It's a big 2 story place with a ton of snow, skate and surf items.

Hard to get to. Bad selection. PB area has better stores for such apparel selection.

Recently bought a new snowboard and boots/bindings from here. J.B. helped me find the right Step-On boots and bindings and Alex helped me find the perfect snowboard. He also put the bindings on my board for free and gave me some good tips since he has the same board. J.B. and Alex both know their stuff and were really helpful. I think Hanger 94 has the best snow selection in So Cal, and I'll be doing all my snow shopping here from now on. read more

Hanger 94 is one of the best shops in San Diego for sure and I get almost everything there. I have never once had a problem with customer service and Ive been shopping there for 5+ years. They always have the best selection, prices can be a little steep but they always have killer sales. The people complaining about customer service are probably total kooks, thats why they made a bad purchase in the first place. Definately give this place a shot for anything you might want. P.S. To the lady whining about the sandals, rainbows are always tight in the beginning, you have to wear them for at least a week to break them in. So the woman that sold you the rainbows was right, no wonder they dont like you in the store. read more

Ridiculous...plain worthless. I have purchased a few things from here. OVER PRICED for a store full of staff that OVER DO the "can I help you..I think you re going to steal line." BOTHERSOME. I went in to find GoPro fog inserts,,Nada. Heads up..If you consider yourself a sporting goods or action store that is the basics to have. Never waste your time there. read more

Make CERTAIN that what you are purchasing is EXACTLY what you want. I purchased a NIXON tide watch $130.00 bucks at 7pm. the NEXT morning I put the watch on to go to work and noticed that some pixels on the face were not working. Couldn't read some of the numbers. I asked to exchange for the EXACT same watch. Management said " We will not exchange or refund for worn out used items." It was on my wrist for approx. 35 seconds ! and never even saw daylight. WTF ! you Knob. In the end I had the watch repaired by NIXON then SOLD it on Ebay. Almost got All my money back, but what a pain in the _SS ! I agree with many other reviews about Hanger 94. They just want you to buy buy buy and have No follow through. PS I found better pricing in La Jolla. Not sure if I can name a different store in this review so just google it. You know, ( the ONLY surf shop in La Jolla, starts with the letter M ) Owner actually works in the shop. Helped me pick out a new fin set up for optimal performance. i came back a week later wanting to make one minor change on the center fin. NO PROBLEM ! they swapped it out and only charged me the difference in price. Their WAX is also WAY cheaper here too. DON"T THROW AWAY YOUR MONEY AT HANGER 94. They SUCK !!!!!!!! read more

Where do I start? I have been going to hanger 94 for 15 years now and they have always treated me like family every time I come in! All though it is all new staff now minus Milo the owner and John the manager they have always had a great crew and the new one is no different! My kids are starting to skate now and I am very grateful that hanger 94 is still around to fulfill all of their skate needs also. If I ever had anything "bad" to say about this place, it's that it's too damn far from me! Lol but it's well worth the drive for me and I have zero complaints. As a matter of fact I tried to go to another skate shop today "route 44" which is way closer to my house and it was the single worst shopping experience of my life and have no idea how that place is still open! I just left an honest review on their yelp as well. All in all hanger 94 and the crew is the best place for all of your skate and other board needs and has always helped and supported me through my whole skate career! Thanks Milo for always being cool! Kenny reed read more

Really disappointed with this place. They stock premium items, but don't stand behind them with their customer service or return policy... pretty much just a warehouse... not going here again.. read more

We've been going to Hanger 94 since the beginning and absolutely love it. The staff is always friendly, very knowledgeable and more than helpful. The selection on everything is amazing and the prices are fair. They are always our 1st choice for all of our sporting goods needs from surfing, skating, snowboarding and more! Highly recommended! read more

I bought sunglasses and a pair of shoes at hangar 94. The shoes (vans) started coming apart, the bottom was peeling away from the sole, which was peeling away from the tread. I'm recovering from injuries associated with an accident at work, so I'm restricted to walking. When I brought the shoes back for an exchange, I was told by the two employees at the front counter that I was out of luck. They spoke to me as if I was a bum off the street coming in their store asking for a hand-out. They both explained that they do not provide refunds or exchanges for their shoes. I showed them the shoes, only 2 weeks old, coming apart. One guy said I probably ruined them skating...I told him I'm severly restricted as far as physical activity goes. He shrugged his shoulders and just repeated what he said the first time. He did offer this gem, "why don't you just use glue?" Another employee came over and said he could help me find another pair of shoes, besides vans. I followed him since I had no recourse it seemed, and he was more my age. He recommended a brand named e-merica. I bought a pair and tried to forget the pathetic customer service provided by the much younger employees working the front counter. Well... this pair of shoes were junk too. About a month after buying them, one of the shoe-lace eyelets, or holes, ripped open...now these shoes are worthless to me. Mostly brand new, except I can no longer lace them up. I'LL never return to this store. It seems like they only sell garbage. It almost seems like this store gets it's inventory from 3rd world countries where they can get illegal knock-offs of American products. I've worn vans' shoes since the 80's, now I'm bummed because now I'm hesitant to buy vans again, AT ANY STORE. read more

Do not shop here. I bought shorts for my husband and son. They did not work out. When I went to return them two days later with the tags still on them, I was told I could only receive store credit. Seriously! I had my original receipt, the tags were still on the merchandise, and it was still in the bag. read more

Great selection and best prices. The best some internet board prices too! I save $150 on s Rusty. Stoked!

Bought a board from Hanger and it immediately started to delam the first day I took it out on a mountain. Brought it back immediately after and was told this is normal wear and tear and to just epoxy the board. Two weekends later (after only taking it out one or two days per weekend) my board delammed an insane amount on the side while being on the mountain, and the nose snapped after getting less than a foot of air and landing a 180 slightly in a nosepress. Came back to the store to ask about it and was told that it's an issue I have to take up with the manufacturer and not the shop. I attempted to have them look up the purchase but they cannot look this information up without you being on the customer list. This is something I was never informed of any of the 3 times I came in to buy gear, instead just asked if I want to be added to the customer list with no explanation. When I asked the girl behind the counter if the shop wouldn't even help me at all after selling me a low quality board clearly under warranty I was told that I rode the board and broke the board and it's not a manufacturing issue. I asked to speak with a manager who agreed it was a manufacturing issue, said he would contact Rome and call me later that day. Still haven't heard back and it's been two weeks. Not pleased whatsoever with this store. read more

Wanted to give credit where credit is due. Wife and I had a great experience recently here. I believe her name was Jessie? Or Jessica? I hate getting new sunglasses due to the fact it always seems like your bugging the employee when you really don't have a pair in mind. But this wasn't the case. My wife needed sunglasses more than I did since she just recently got laser eye surgery. (Let's just go with Jessie) Jessie helped my wife out and found her a pair that looks so good on her and she loves them, I on the other hand was struggling, which made feel rushed (due to past experiences at other retailers). Jessie was very patient and seemed to generally care and wanted to make sure we both found something we really like. She even convinced me on another pair when I was really leaning towards something else (a near impossible task), took my wife and her word and I'm glad I did, love my polarized Oakley Hollbrooks, I love great customer service and this experience was excellent, shopped at hanger before but this brought it up a notch in our books. read more

Huge Store, Gigantic Selection, Awesome Brands, Great Service/Staff. This place employs some very friendly kids/young adults who help you out with care and respect. They are friendly and down to earth. I went to another snowboarding shop down the road in El Cajon and had a bad experience but this place is top notch. Tons of brands like RVCA, Quiksilver, Volcom, etc. and a huge selection of surf & snow. The biggest thing I was surprised about was that the prices were very similar to internet prices of discount retailers online- that is hard to find! I recommend this place. Only 1 thought for the store- the way they arrange the inventory is a bit confusing- it's mostly organized by brand, so you have to bounce around various parts of the store if you are looking for a specific item like- t-shirts or shorts etc. You need to hit up the different brand spots instead of going to 1 area where it's all the brands grouped together for each type of clothing. Other than that, great place. read more

This is my second time to Hanger 94 and both times I have experienced wonderful customer service. I don't think I have ever shopped at a skate or surf shop and wasn't met with either attitude or indifference but I have never experience either at Hanger 94. David in skate department has been extremely helpful both times and such a pleasure to deal with. Everyone was happy to answer questions and I want to especially thank David who was so patient with my six year old nephew and really got him stoked on skating and set him up with the perfect board. read more

If it was possible to write negative star amounts I would! I was disgusted by the customer service I received by both the sales rep and the manager Mike. He was rude enough to roll his eyes and tell me that if I hadn't read the the policy or asked the question regarding final sales that it was my own fault for only being able to receive store credit. The no cash back policy for credit card purchases was on the bottom of their posted policy and I had glanced at the posting but only saw that the items needed to be unworn, unwashed and have the original receipt. All of which I had, I actually wouldn't have been so annoyed if it had been mentioned when I purchased the items yesterday. I was shocked, made to feel like a fool and and regret shopping there. I will never be back, I'm sorry I was angry and don't want to ever repeat that experience. read more

Cody was great! He helped pick out just the right cruiser skateboard for my son, who loves the board. The cashier told me about a future sale and another employee gave my son stickers for his helmet. I thought the service was terrific. I would definitely shop here again. read more

I came in here shopping for a christmas gift, I thought I was going to walk out with a gift certificate. Instead I walked out with a surfboard. I do not have the slightest clue about surfing. It isn't something I am familiar with. My boyfriend had a surfboard stolen from his car and ever since he has wanted to replace it. After picking up his tux the other day from a place across the street I saw this shop. I swear it was a sign. I go in and take a look. I was greater very kindly at the front door. After telling them about why I was in they directed me upstairs where they carried all of the surfboards. I spoke with the guy up there. I feel terrible I didn't catch his game because he was so incredible helpful. He began by asking me questions and after telling him the information he began to show me boards. He described to me the boards and the differences between them. I ended up purchasing an amazing, beautiful board. I wanted the best and thats what he gave me. Be sure you committed to your purchase, because their return policy kind of stinks! read more

bought an xcel comp x fullsuit from them and about two weeks later the tightening cord for the shoulder starts to fall apart. called and asked if they would exchange it but they would not. they said they would have to send it in to xcel and it would take a long time. when you spend almost $400 on a suit you would think the store you bought it from would exchange it if it is defective and only last for 3 sessions. never shopping at this place again! read more

Having been to most of the local area surf/skate/snow shops, I would say this is the best one. The shop is quite large and has a great selection of everything from clothes to surf movies to snowboards to surf wax and so on. The most impressive thing about the shop is the customer service. There are lots of employees looking to help but they are not pushy or too cool to help out. A few days ago I was there and was extremely impressed by the level of knowledge and helpfulness of Rusty in the snow/skate department upstairs. He clearly had a vast knowledge of all things related to snowboards/bindings/boots and was helpful by telling me the right amount of information. He wasn't snooty and seemed genuinely interested in teaching me and making sure i found exactly the right stuff. I highly recommend Hanger 94 for everything but especially for anything snowboard related. read more

Hanger 94 is a really nice place, huge selection and decent prices. I have frequented this establishment of number of times in my teens and every transaction had been smooth, up until now, which is why I'm writing this review. I'm not a critic and I try to be fair which is why I hardly ever leave negative reviews but when I visited Hanger 94 on 6/23, I was expecting the same as every other time I'd been there. Everything went great, and I got all the help I needed just like I remembered, and I have to commend the young guy upstairs for assembling my new board free of charge and for talking shop with me. I was stoked on the entire experience until checkout. When I got the register I brought the unassembled parts and asked if I could leave them up there while I continued shopping. Even though I was told it would be okay, the girl up there was kinda stand offish about the whole thing. When I was finished I returned to the cash register with a t shirt but the girl said "it was a trip" that was I paying with a debit card (not sure what's weird about that) and was still stand offish at the end of transaction. I went into the parking lot confused by that comment and it just rubbed me the wrong way. I felt like an idiot for giving them $200 after that but no returns on custom complete skateboards and I didn't care enough to go back in to return a $20 T shirt. Anyway, 4/5 due to previous visits and because I'm happy with what I bought in the end. I'll give Hanger 94 another chance. Something just threw me off about the whole thing because of the attitude I got during my transaction. Mind you this occurred during the middle of the day on a Wednesday when there were no other customers in the store, and I probably could have bought this board cheaper elsewhere. I will probably end up returning to the store to buy other stuff again, but a little kindness can along a way and I hope that this was just an off day for Hanger 94. I went here to support a local business since to my knowledge they aren't a franchise like Active, Zumiez, etc. Check them out for yourself, they're still worth a try. read more

Where is the negative star option! Purchased a bathing for my wife and specified with manager and employee about suit exchange policy because it was a gift. Both without blinking told me all i needed was the receipt and tags on both peices. Top was to small so my wife returned to get a different size top but did not find it so a different bikini was now in order, but nope! Store policy is no returns or exchanges on bottoms. Ok! We are lucky she found something that works. Policies are in place and we understand but for customer service sake teach all the employees the specifics on those policies before people spend hard earned money at your store. That's not even the worst part! She was treated poorly through the whole experience!!!! The top she exchanged was $10 less and they asked her to find something to buy for $10 becouse they dont have refunds. Something under $10 at hanger??? Ok! They finally the employee returned her change by dropping it in her hand rudely. Ive read previous reviews and am not shoked to hear what my wife shared, Sad! read more

Walked in with $100 bill in my pocket and needing new gloves and pucks and was treated like a criminal before even receiving a hello. Will be sticking to Ebay and Craigslist from now on I guess... read more

Great store!!!!!!!! Workers there are helpful and just normal people. Great selection of boards and clothing. Overall awesome shop.

While nearly off of its competitors have a money back return policy, Hanger 94 only offers store credit for an item. I needed to return a $174 wet suit that was never worn, bought the day before with the tags hanging on it. It never occurred to me that a store this size would employ an extortionist return policy. Tillys, for God sake, offers a money back return policy if you have a receipt. I will never set foot back in this place. read more

big selection, saw some great sale prices, on great quality board riding companies. Surf clothing is expensive as hell, it always has been, it was expensive when I started surfing 40 years ago, I am shocked at prices when I look, but usually, the quality is top notch, and it lasts.. I understand marketing, but It would be really nice to carry more affordable quality clothing and gear, maybe less known brands, more up and coming core companies than just the big 3-4 that have been dominating the industry for so long now. There is a point where they lose touch with the people who are supposed to be their core audience, and are really marketing towards the people who just want the look like them, but don't really go out on big cold winter days or still skate pools or seek out powder in the most extreme places, because that's what we do homie. They gotta make a profit, but I like a deal, and I love supporting the little guys. peace read more
