Jack and crew gave me a very reasonable quote, showed up exactly on time fully prepared to do all that surgery. However, they first carefully opened up the door frame just enough to remove the door, look inside the pocket and fortunately were able to retrieve the loose door roller. That allowed the door to simply be reinstalled, saving us unnecessary drywall cutting/repair/painting and money! They were in and out in a hour. Awesome work!

Had bad water damage with mold in the master bath, after the previous contractor did a hack job. There was water damage all over the shower base and even leaked out to the outside wall. Sent some pictures to Chris, he responded right away. When we got started with the project, the water damage was worse than expected. I have to say, Chris is an excellent communicator. Kept me updated with everything that was happening. Easy to reach by text. We basically had to redo the whole master because of the damage. My wife and I had no idea, but Chris and his team guided us and made great recommendations. In the end. 1) honest 2) meticulous 3) hard workers Shout out to Gabriel. He's the best. AN URBAN TREASURE…read more We've enjoyed our totally remodeled kitchen for almost exactly a year, but the kitchen faucet started to loosen. To tighten it from below, we needed a basin wrench, which we don't have. So we decided to call in a handyman to do that plus some other little jobs. (I guess we can no longer call our kitchen "new" if something needs to be fixed. It's sort of like that first scratch on a new car.) Dan the Handyman stood out as one of the local best on the Web, so we gave him a call. He replied the next day, and he came out this afternoon. Dan was here for three and a half hours. He fixed the faucet (because we don't have that pesky basin wrench). He caulked a thirteen foot line of grout at the base of the back splash behind the kitchen counter and sink because there were spots where the grout had shrunk too much on drying. (I get messy with simple glue, so imagine me doing this.) He hung a sort-of heavy picture on the newly painted wall of our once-new, now-old kitchen (because I was afraid to attempt the job, screw it up, and then endure an unhappy wife). He installed some spacers in an electrical outlet such that I can now attach a wall plate and it won't look funny. (Remember, Dan's motto is "no job too small.") Finally, he spent most of his time running a new electrical line from a junction box underneath the house to an outlet he installed on the building's exterior front (so we can hang a lighted wreath on the façade next Christmas). I would probably have electrocuted myself had I tried this, um, at home. Dan is an urban treasure. He's a hell of a nice fellow and his work is impeccable. I wish we'd had more stuff for him to do. I'm keeping his business card accessible from the rest of the clutter. There's no need to go further looking for a handyman. Dan's your guy. P.S. 3/18/14 Dan returned today to expertly and efficiently: 1. Repair a leak under the bathroom sink. 2. Replace a toilet fill valve. 3. Shave-down the surface of a door that's been causing it to stick depending on the weather. 4. Replace a plate on the lock in a side gate that serves to hold the tongue in position. 5. Seal around the front housing of a postal box built-into a brick pillar; it leaks when it rains. (In Southern California, when is that, exactly?) Now, granted, any husband who's a Real Man should be able to do at least 2, 3, and 5, but I came to the realization a long time ago that I'm not a manly Mr. Fixit. The wife would agree. As a matter of fact, she's the one who, probably out of desperation, originally found Dan's listing. At the risk of burdening Dan with more work than he can handle, you should call him. He's an Urban Treasure who, with any luck, should become an Urban Legend.

Jim brought 2 men to my house, and gave me the impression they were his employees. They WERE NOT. One was a semi-skilled 20 year old named Jose Medina and the other a former government employee with little if any construction experience. Had I know the two males Jim brought to my house were not his employees I would have barred their entry. Instead I gave 3 strangers an intimate tour of my house. Key question to ask any contractor: "Are these guys your employees?" So I started the two guys with re-framing a small area made out of redwood studds, that required rough cut redwood 2x4 studs (you can only buy them at Ganalh lumber, and they are EXPENSIVE). 3 days later, Jose "finished" the window, and all work was done incorrectly. I fired them. Do not trust Jim. Interestingly one of my doctor friends knows Jim and told me the same thing I experienced: " He's a talker. But once he dropped off men at a construction site, he simply sat in his car outside with his smartphone out. A CA State Licensing Board complaint is in process and nearly complete for submission.

I had gotten 3 estimates before I found Miguel and let's just say that Miguel offers extremely reasonable prices. Two of the quotes I received were at least double of what Miguel quoted me. Miguel is easy to communicate with and reviewed all the work I requested. I wanted new flooring, wall paneling removed and smoothed out with new paint, change of all the fixtures and exhaust fan, change the shower door and mirror, and add a recessed light over the shower. He provided the quote and we agreed to a payment plan. He informed me of everything that I needed to purchase on my end and have ready for his team when they arrived. They were punctual and very respectful of the space and clean as well. You can tell Miguel really takes pride in his work and even went above and beyond what we originally agreed to. I also asked him to change out the vanity in the guest bathroom as a last minute request and he was able to help me with that too.
