We had Chris and his team come do some smaller jobs at our house before. I was always impressed with the attention to detail and the meticulous nature of this company and Chris' team. Had bad water damage with mold in the master bath, after the previous contractor did a hack job. There was water damage all over the shower base and even leaked out to the outside wall. Sent some pictures to Chris, he responded right away. When we got started with the project, the water damage was worse than expected. I have to say, Chris is an excellent communicator. Kept me updated with everything that was happening. Easy to reach by text. We basically had to redo the whole master because of the damage. Two weeks later its safe to assume he did not need my business. Which will be significant. In response. Thank you for responding. We just moved into our first home and the closet shelves ripped out of the wall as we were unpacking our clothes. We reached out to Chris and heard back within an hour and setup a visit for him to make an estimate and the very next day he had a team come by to fix the 2 closets as well as repair a gap at the bottom of our fence so our dog wouldn't get out. The team he sent was really nice! They were super friendly, very careful as they moved throughout the house and the repairs are very nice quality - the new fence extension is higher quality than the rest! Chris is super knowledgable on many different aspects of home ownership including water quality, electrical and plumbing. Took a bit of back n forth to get an appointment scheduled - Chris cancelled last minute , but showed up again about 40 minutes later. Even though I had already detailed all work that was to be done, and let him know that this was an urgent work, Chris seemed more interested in upselling us his 'security system', and his water purifying business, rather than the work he actually showed up for. Eventually after a week of follow up, where he was meant to get us a simple estimate for work in our property that we discussed while he was there, he has now texted me to say he's busy for the next 2 months. So why show up at my place, string me along, and not respond for a whole week and waste my time? Update: wow. Chris, you wasted our time, and tried to upsell and gave me the run around. I followed up about 4-5 times with you. Your response shows me that you think its ok to waste people's time. Amazing handyman service from Chris and his crew. Absolutely saved my life with a complicated move I had which involved very fragile wall mirrors. Not only was he attentive, empathetic and knowledgeable but did his best to educate me on what he was doing and work around my schedule. They helped me do repairs, patch ups and removal of fragile mirrors at my old apartment, then came back the next to help set up things at my new apartment. Everyone was very friendly and professional and a pleasure to work with. Several weeks later because I knew I could trust Chris and their service, I had him come back to install physical therapy equipment mounted to my walls. Really happy with his service and highly recommend to anyone who needs a little extra communication care. Will definitely hire their services again if I have any major jobs. Update: -- I read his response, and want to point (1) I spoke on and off 1mos. He was polite but unpleasant. Then it seemed he fell off a cliff, ignoring us completely. No 'we're busy', nothing. = Unpredictable + Unreliable. 2 months I heard nothing, no response to messages/calls/VMs. (read my details below.) The day after this review went live he called me. (2) There's no 'we'. The multiple times we called/messaged, it's all Chris. Wish him all the best of luck, and hope he improves his work style. --------------- Negative 100. Skim through reviews...you'll see Many Zero rating, cushioned by 5star reviews. Someone is clearly trying to boost ratings. I called over 10 handymen, and wanted to find right person for our jobs who'd get things right (because as they say, 'if you don't have time to do it right the first time, do you have time to do it twice'). Chris has a very unpleasant attitude, but I thought 'right now I mainly care about job done well.' So talked anyway. Every time I called it felt like he was busy and was just putting up with conversations. My calls to him were scattered over a month period (as I called and had estimates from other handymen). In the beginning he called back and responded very promptly, though attitudey. His VM message notes a warranty on all their jobs. He didn't mention it, but when I brought it up, he said "yes all our jobs have 1year warranty. If it fails, we'll come take a look, and if it's because of our work, we'll replace or repair it free of charge." Well that was a bonus assurance. He does not provide free estimates. Only estimates over phone by looking at pics. Our situation was a bit confusing (dif handymen suggested different solutions), so had him explain it. He did not like that. He told me a few times "this is a small project", as if it's not worth talking about ($4-500 work). At the end of the month I said we'd move forward with him (due to some security from his warranty). Never heard back. I called, text-messaged a few times, left VMs, spread over a week. Nothing. It's been 2mos now, he never responded to anything. Then I realized, if he's flaky unpredictable with call-backs, and can so stubbornly ignore you, what's to prove he'd stick to his word and honor a 'warranty'? Prob if something breaks, we'd never hear back from him, same as we're not hearing back from him now. Very unreliable. Few of the other handymen contacted are below. These are the ones we almost went with. Many others contacted, who over the phone said they couldn't do the project so not much more interaction. -- Altadena Handyman- Ruslan, Very nice, great attitude, provides free estimates, arrived on time. Although he said he'd do our project, he did not seem very experienced with it (we had an atypical job), though seemed experienced in general. We decided we'd prefer committing to someone who'd done it a lot. -- Jeff Kasper Services- Jeff, great guy, highly recommend. Also great attitude, great to work with. Said he does small to large projects, including adding rooms and such. Will prob go with him. (Found him last, via Nextdoor app.) Update: did go with him, he was Phenomenal. We are so happy with Chris and his team. Just had our master bathroom completely remodeled, and it looks amazing, better than we imagined! Chris' team is professional, courteous, and great at their job. They are always looking out for better ways to do things, and share great ideas as they go. Chris is always willing to change the job as things go, and makes great suggestions as well. The subcontractors he hires are wonderful as well, and we always felt like he was completely on top of everything as it was going. We've used Chris before, and will definitely use him again. He always stands by his work, and sends out his crew to fix anything that's not right. He's also great in an emergency--when we had a water leak a few months back he was there the next morning and had the pipes replaced and the water damage repaired very quickly. Overall, I don't think Chris will always be the cheapest bid you find, but you really get what you pay for. He came by to fix a leaking drain. He quickly figured out what was, gave me an overview of what was wrong and went to go buy the parts needed. He had everything up and running in no time. I think it is pretty funny when someone gets a bad review not for their actual work but because someone didn't think that they answered their phone quickly enough. I called Chris because I had a house full of projects and needed someone who could be flexible enough to handle plumbing as well as electrical issues and could also do carpentry. I have hired contractors before and found that they generally just know how to delegate to subcontractors and pad their invoices. Chris, however, can do all the projects himself. He is an honest, hard working, friendly and capable guy who knows what he is doing and charges his clients reasonably. For those reasons, he is in high demand. I have suggested that he get a phone service since his phone rang almost constantly while he was working and he spent his breaks calling people back. For the people who can't reach him immediately, keep trying. I will never even consider using another handyman for my home projects even if that means I have to wait - Chris and his crew are worth it! read more

Chris and his team did a bathroom remodel in my townhouse. We had been talking with Chris on and off for a while (we were dragging our feet) and when we decided to pull the trigger, Chris jumped on it and got started demo literally the next day. We realized in the process that we had some insect and mold issues, which Chris was extremely responsive about and worked with the exterminator to coordinate timing. Once all the demo was done and they got to work on the tub and tile, everything went pretty smoothly. We ran into the normal bumps along the way, but Chris and I spoke nearly every day and was at our house a couple of times per week checking on his team's progress. The costs are reasonable and extremely transparent. Chris and his crew installed three custom doors in our hacienda house in Sierra Madre; the doors had to be patched/cut in shape, the frames sanded and stained, the door stops stained, and all the above, including the hardware (handles, rails, deadbolts etc) had to be installed. On the same time, we were expecting a newborn within a week or two. The did a phenomenal job, they were punctual, careful, accommodating -- and made sure that the baby's space remained clean and dust free. I needed a good handyman to give me a bid for a property that I was selling in Silverlake. The sellers contractor was out of the country and there was a long punchlist of items that needed to be completed. I had two contractors come out to give a bid. One guy just quoted me a price after the tour, without taking any notes. The price was really low, but I got the impression that his work might be suspect. Your Local Handyman, Inc took careful notes and gave me a credible bid. In fact, the Buyers got a bid and that contractor came in at almost double. It really freaked the buyer out. With my bid, it helped me calm the buyer down and prove to the buyers that this was a credible bid. This guy does great work and I will definitely use them again. The job was replacing an exhaust bathroom fan. The price $350 without painting, just primer of the patched area. I feel it was on the high side since I got other quotes as well. Two guys came, but Chris was not one of them. A little disappointed, but that's OK. Both guys were polite, professional, clean clothing, clean van. They showed up exactly on time for the appointment. About the work: It was done well, everything looks very good. The reason I didn't agree for them to do the painting is because Chis was asking $150 to paint the ceiling only on approx. 10' x 6' large bath. The only complaint I have (hence the 4 stars) was that it took two guys a whole day to replace a bath fan. I will use them again and recommend them to other readers. read more

Chris and his assistant corrected some water damage to wall in a home rental. My property manager (Nick b.-see his review below...I'm a unhappy tenant, not his friend) allowed a new wall ac unit to be incorrectly placed after my office flooded. My office flooded and I had to refrain from using the ac unit during record breaking heat. In comparison to many other estimates, Chris offered a very reasonable price. He was able to quickly assess the problem, document all damage, reinstall the ac until and leave the wall in pristine condition. A day and a half worth of proposed work turned into 3 days worth of work. Chris even came in on his day off. The wall looks better than ever. I needed to have my kitchen ceiling fluorescent lights fixed so I called "Your Local Handyman ". Chris, the owner advised me that my light fixtures were too old due to parts were obsolete (lights were too old). Chris stated he can replace my old lights with LED ceiling lights and it can be done the very next morning. I texted Chris back the go ahead and he sent me the estimated invoice via text. Love this technology. Next morning two well groomed technician came to my house on time. They introduced themselves, I showed them to my kitchen. I initially called Your Local Handyman for a plumbing issue. Chris was so knowledgable, polite and reasonably priced that he's been working on my home for the last month. Chris takes the time to explain the issue and how he is going to repair/replace things; what works best and also points out things that need to be done repaired or replaced in the future. So far I've had plumbing done along with repairing of vent caps on the roof, electrical (rewiring), vent hood replaced in kitchen and front door and back door replaced with new locks. Given the long to do list and a new homeowner at that, having 'Your Local Handyman' work on my home has made home owning less stressful.
