This was my first experience here at the shop and getting the nail dip. I was extremely dissatisfied! I have dips all in my nails and they're sooo thick! They cut them all the way down after I requested that they only be shaped. The massage was a joke! It felt like it did when I put lotion on my legs this morning! So Leena got me a gift certificate here for my b-day and I was so excited because I was so due for a pedicure. I had to reschedule my 115 appt and the next available was 3 so I took it. I got there at 2 after I finished eating and decided to just wait. Lena (I think she is the owner) welcomed me and was sweet enough to say sorry about your cat. For some reason the other two ladies there had cats and mentioned they wouldn't know what to do if they lost their cat. I do I thought... Anyways 3 o'clock rolled around and it was time for my happiness to begin. The lady that did my nails looked annoyed. She didn't make conversation and when I told her what I wanted she seemed irritated. She didn't do that great a job on my polish but the actual pedicure was nice. It did make me feel better. Leena had just gotten the gift certificate for a pedicure and a flower was $5 dollars more. I told her I didn't mind paying for it. I did and then I was on my way. I think if I had Lena do my nails I would have had a better experience, but then again I don't know because mentally I was lost thinking about Roxy. How do I say thing? This place was absolutely the worst place I've been to for a manicure. The place seemed nice enough when you walk in. Didn't smell funny and everything looked clean enough. The person that did my nails cut me and made me bleed on not just one finger, but THREE different fingers. I have NEVER had that happen. If I knew that was going to happen, I would have not paid beforehand and certainly not given her a tip. I thought about asking for my money back. It wasn't even inexpensive. I don't know how these folks say in business. There must be only a small number of places in the area. You may need to bring some band-aids with you. read more

i went here as a treat for my birthday. i have never had such a horrible experience. The ladies working there were rude. I got a pedi and they were out of the wax to dip your feet in, so instead of informing me she decided to just not do it. when i asked about it she said she didnt care they were out and still charged me the full price for the pedi. Then i got gel nails, they were horrible! they were lumpy, and uneven, oh and theyre suppose to last at least 2 weeks according to them. I got 3 days before they peeled off and took most my natural nail with them. OUCH! The lady doing my nails made me bleed, talked on her phone the entire time. I went to this salon for years. ALWAYS waited for more than 15 minutes for Lena. More than once she forgot my call for an appt. and told me to go home until later, or made me wait until she could fit me in. They ARE very clean. Something that one always wants and needs in a nail salon. The last time I was in, Lena cut into my toe deep in the tissue and it became infected. I went to Lena because she was good with my big toes which have a tendency to become ingrown. I've been to another pedicurist now, got the 'hooks" Lena left cut out, and am waiting for an appt. with a Podiatrist to get both my big toes worked on from ingrown toenails. Employees and Lena all communicate in Vietnamese. I wish I spoke Vietnamese, but I don't. Sorry that I didn't know what they were talking about. Many, many positive experiences with this Salon, but the trouble I am now having is way out of their abilities. I went to get my acrylic nails taken off and get gel on my nails instead and wow what a great job Lilly did. She was so polite and super friendly, and she was so delicate with my nails. She had started to put regular polish but I wanted gel and I asked if it was too late for me to get gel instead and she said "no no it's okay" and took off the polish and started to put gel with no problem and just as good as ever. She took her time and it came out perfectly. They even offer student discount! Best place, I'll definitely be back. read more

The day of my graduation my manicure had already come off many of my nails. I've been to quite a few nail salons, but none of them compare to Hands Down. The salon itself is very cute and the staff here is friendly and dedicated to customer service. I recently moved to Claremont and have now had services three times at Hands Down. They are consistently excellent. I was impressed that the staff would accommodate extending hours to meet my schedule. The salon is clean and uses high quality products. Their value is in the careful nail prep and application of products, no rush service and professional staff. (I used to bring my own base and top coats to salons because the products were inferior. I organized a beauty and destress event at Pomona College Women's Union and wanted to get someone to thread eyebrows for the event. Everyone at my college is a huge fan of Tanu, so I asked her to come. She was incredible! Tanu did an awesome job. She stayed for two hours and did around 20 people's eyebrows. The experience was a lot less painful than I've ever experienced before and everyone was super happy with how Tanu did their eyebrows too! Great job! I'll admit, I have tried four other places in the area, looking for a better price, and seeing if there was anything better. But honestly, Hands Down is my favorite, for several reasons: it's quite and luxurious. The salon is clean and it's relaxing to be there. The artists are amazing-- my nails always look perfect, and the polish (either regular or gel) lasts a long time. They spend so much time on the little details-- and it really pays off. They know me by name, know what I like, and if I ever get a chip or the polish doesn't last for some reason, they fix it for free. I've had a few manicures here. First I got a gel mani and the ladies seemed new to the technology; the manicure was awful. French tips were crooked and all different thicknesses. They charged me extra $8 to have the gel removed. Another time I had a mani and pedi scheduled but my manicurist got a headache halfway through and I had to come back another day. I needed to get my nails done and my toes done from my last visit and a nail salon in Apple Valley Bella nails did a horrific job they were thick did not like them and the shape is horrible. I had called him to see if they could see me and of course they said come on down 530 will do that I told him what I needed, nails taken off, a new full along with a mani/pedi. No problem come on in I'll take care of you. Upon my arrival I walked in and show them told them what I needed they looked at my nails and went over and started talking amongst themselves. They put three people on me they had to take the nails off which they were thick a horrible horrible job from the nail place prior, Bella Nails in Apple Valley, and from that they had a gentleman taking my nails off Teresa to was taking the nails off and then I had Lily doing my pedicure. Lilly is amazing!!! My toes were were a mess having let my daughter paint them. I was a little uncomfortable at first because they were talking and I felt bad because I know they had to take my nails off soak them and they close at seven. I felt a little bit better as appt progressed!Teresa did an amazing job! An outstanding job. She used forms! I have not seen form since I was probably 12 when my mother would get her nails done. The nails are done to my liking, I will post a picture! Iam absolutely amazed me that I live in Apple Valley this nail shop is in Claremont I think I will be back !!! I was so excited to finally find a great place to get my eyebrows done :) Cary and Jo are absolutely excellent at eyebrows and I liked that Cary let me know some tricks for making them look good at home. Jo is amazing at acrylic nails. I had a pretty hideous nail job from 3D nails and Jo completely re-did them. They came out great and look so natural and delicate. I've been to 5 nail salons in Claremont and I finally found one where I have zero complaints. I am a perfectionist when it comes to my nails. And although I wanted long acrylic nails, I wanted them to look like my own. And they absolutely do! I've never been complimented so much on my nails before. They are absolutely perfect with the perfect coffin shape. The salon was clean, friendly, and not busy at all on a week night. I believe I had Tei, she was amazing and took her time. I showed her a picture and she made them match completely. The price was completely reasonable for the nails I got and she even suggested a color that turned out to be absolutely perfect for my skin tone!
