Fun place to stop for a beer and snack before taking the train. If you visit Silverton you need to stop here. We had beers and chili. Service was friendly.

Absolutely a great stop! It was very busy when we arrived, yet the service was friendly and fast! Indoor is a great atmosphere with a Colorado vibe, but we sat outside because the weather was so great. Oh, and it was the best turkey sandwich I've ever eaten.

We stopped here to get a bite to eat after taking the Silverton Durango train ride from Durango. The food is amazing. I had the handlebar burger and husband had the buffalo burger, they were both really delicious. The service was excellent by Rocky at the bar who also went out of her way to find me a Plug for my phone so I can get a little more battery life out of it to take more pictures on the train. We met the owner Ken, really nice guy and he's been in business for a very long time over 50 years and he works there on Sundays too ! works just like any of the other workers, cleaning tables, seating people, etc. I love the ambience of this restaurant lots of wildlife to look at!

rocky mountain oysters

A restaurant with a lot of character! The decor was amazing so take some time to soak everything in. Now if you want to play a joke on a friend or family member, order the rocky mountain "oysters"! These were NOT oysters but I should have known! Imagine my surprise! The chicken pot pie (highly recommended by our waitress) was the best I've ever had and I don't even like chicken pot pie! Everything about it was amazing! The buffalo chili was ok, but something to try if you want to try something more gamey. Staff was quick and friendly.

In this tiny mining town so historic, it's tucked away in the San Juan Mountains so far from everything. Whereas you know you WILL NOT find a plush restaurant in this rugged railroad town, we definitely wanted some "decent" food to satisfy our hunger. Upon research, we saw that this restaurant had decent reviews left by others; it at least looked a bit promising. We knew we weren't dining in; it was a quick to-go so we could take it back to our nearby hotel room. Upon entering, a young man at the reception was friendly (let's start with this positive note!!) Once we had told him it would be a to-go, he said to just walk up to the bar and place our order there. The lady who was in charge of the bar was also friendly (another positive thing!) We definitely wanted a salad with something else. We picked the salad that has/had tomato stuffed with tuna, the soup of the day (creamy cheddar or something; a cup of it) and the potato skins. The wait time to get our food was decent where we waited no more than 20 minutes. Not bad.... Let's get into the Bad/Ugly, shall we (LOL)? Once back in our hotel room, we opened the container one at a time. We were pretty happy with the Potato Skins. People say you can't really go wrong with (any) potatoes. There were four large pieces of the potatoes in a large container. A good amount of melted cheese was on each piece. The amount of salt? Checked!! The soup was creamy with a good mount of cheese in it (very melty.) It sure wasn't impressive in any way but not bad either. When we finally opened the container of the salad, we could immediately tell that everything in it was OLD. The lettuce was mushy with some brown. The tuna salad was dry. When we dug into it to eat the tomato piece underneath the tuna, we could tell that they used a very old tomato to make the dish (the only way to eat the tomato was to dip it in the ranch dressing that came with the Potato Skins; good thing we didn't use it for the potatoes. Otherwise, we would have eaten it tasting the gross oldness of the tomato; I mean it was that bad.) The chopped-up carrot didn't taste fresh either. This was by far the worst salad we have ever had is the best way to describe how nasty the salad was. We ended up thanking the Potato Skins for being the only decent dish out of all three. We were saved by it is an understatement. We were in town for the beautiful Ice Lake for one night. Even if we are to come back for another hike in this area, we now know that we should skip this restaurant at all costs (unless we want the Potato Skins. But I highly doubt that.)

This is one of our favorite spots to stop at when visiting Silverton. We often visit during our SxS rides and walk to town for lunch. Staff members are always friendly and quick to fill any requests. Prices are reasonable given the portion sizes. Upstairs, it can get warm in the summer, but they have fans to help with circulation. There are lots of interesting wall art to look at and start conversations about. Local taps are limited, but there are some commercial options as well. We always bring our family and friends here because it's a nice atmosphere and many food options to choose from.

Cobb Salad with Italian Dressing

Decent spot for a casual meal. Very comfortable atmosphere, very tourist-friendly. We really loved all the decorations and taxidermy throughout the restaurant. My salad was okay, but someone in my group got the Ribeye and absolutely loved it. Overall my group had a good experience and I would recommend this place.

Elk burger & buffalo chilli

Visited Handlebar because it recommended to us. The price was fair and the food was tasty. There are lots old town decor and saying on the walls to keep you entertained. The food was delivered timely and we were attended to properly. I would recommend this place for Elk & buffalo meals.

Buffalo chili

Great chili, amazing ambiance, and fine service. Everybody else's food looked great, chicken fried steak, Beef, Elk or Buffalo burgers, and the peach cobbler was fabulous. We were gong to share but ended up getting two (pricey but much better than one usually gets elsewhere).

Looking for a place to rest our feet and have a few drinks and some food we saw they had great reviews and came here. Friendly service and lots of choices for drinks and food. Went for their version on a Long Island iced tea and even though it was small it packed s punch, we opted for a combo of green beans and onion rings which was perfectly sized and had a few other drinks. Cool place lots to look at in the decor and staff that was on point as far as refills and checking in on ya.

Food and ambiance get a five; service gets a three. It took awhile to get greeted, and once we…read moreordered, we didn't see any food for a long time, and once we did, timing was all off. If you're going to operate in a town where you know a lot of your clientele has a two-hour ticking clock before their train leaves, you've got to be on the ball. Seeing how good the cheese board looked, we started with that as an appetizer. We figured it would give us something to munch on while we were waiting for the rest of our food. Not so much. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, and my wife ordered the turkey avocado sandwich. After ordering all our food and waiting a long time, I saw another table get their cheese board at the same time as their entrees. I flagged down our waiter to see if we'd get our appetizer before our entrees. He went to check, and the cheese board came out...at the same time as our sandwiches. What's the deal here? Nobody wants their appetizer as part of their meal. For the record, the cheese board was big, good, and filling. My chicken sandwich was great, and my wife liked her turkey avocado sandwich as well. Fries were better than chips. We just needed things spaced out a bit. Our waiter came back by and said, "Wow! You two must've been hungry, as you ate that really fast." Well buddy, we've got a train to catch!
