Overall my condo association has had positive experiences with HandiCo. They are always on time, pleasant and get the job done without needing a return visit. I called HandiCo to clean my gutters and check a set of second floor windows to make sure they had caulk. The handy man was on time and did the work quickly. He inspected the windows and determined that they have caulk but that I have a leak in my roof. HandiCo was also able to provide a quote to do that work. Good service; handyman showed up on time and ready to do the job. He even fixed a couple of other things that he noticed in the area where he was doing work. My only quibble is that they are a little pricey ($88 per hour with 2 hour min) for the work. If you have more significant repairs or projects, then it is probably worth it. read more

This is the second time we've used Handico. We basically need an all purpose person to fix various problems. I had the pleasure of dealing with Andy on our last engagement. I am not handy. Luckily he was everything I wasn't. I showed him a broken cabinet. My thought was we would need to completely redo the kitchen, he quickly came up with a great solution to drill screws into the side. I live in a building that is very strict about the amount of insurance any "vendor" needs to have in order to perform work here. After several independent tradespeople could not provide the required certificates of insurance, I contacted HandiCo because I assumed a larger company would have the necessary insurance. HandiCo immediately took care of the insurance issue by contacting the property manager and emailing the proper documentation. HandiCo sent Pablo to repair the grout and caulking in my bathroom and install a towel rod. He was excellent. The job was done to perfection in about half the estimated time. I am an out of town landlord, which is about the biggest pain in the butt situation one can encounter. About 18 months ago my tenant turned off the heat in January and pipes burst. It was so hard to figure out what to do to get it repaired from California that I basically ignored it, until it was time to put it on the market again. I called Handico on a friend's recommendation, and it was TERRIFIC. They were easy to schedule (including when my tenant rescheduled multiple times), helpful and friendly. I was a little discouraged at first from an administrative perspective. My servicer had not shown in the proposed time period so I finally called to see what was going on. I got the impression that nobody had actually been assigned to perform my services even though I had confirmed the date, time and service the day before. Further, the serviceman was not informed of the extent of the work needed once he arrived. However, once a servicer (Demond M.) did arrive, the work was done very efficiently and professionally and I could tell that he knew exactly what he was doing. I also thought the price was very reasonable. I would recommend HandiCo for the work performed and the serviceman's professionalism and would use them again, with hopes that the error in timing/scheduling was a one time issue. read more

The people they contract with to do carpentry, electrical, plumbing etc., are all outstanding and have the skills and expertise to get the job done right and in a timely manner. I have had them put up drywall, doors, carpentry, move electrical and plumbing etc. Everything was really done well. They just completed taking a room that I have in my lower level and dividing it into two rooms creating a big master closet and separate laundry room for me. The planning, design etc., was excellent. My condo building is in the middle of a structural assessment and we have engaged HandiCo's drywallers (at least 4 of them) to cut holes in the drywall both in owner's homes and in building common areas. The project is a pain and a mess but HandiCo's team has been fantastic to work with. They have been very professional, kept the mess to a minimum (as minimum as it can be with holes in your ceiling) and have been absolutely meticulous about clean-up. They work efficiently, communicate well about scheduling and work progress and I would confidently recommend them. HandiCo always comes through. I needed a medicine cabinet rehung and a light fixture fixed. That wasn't going to take the 2-hour minimum so I added a little paint touch-up to the list. Tom called 30 min befor his appt window started and asked to come early which was great. I told him I wanted to get everything done in 2-3 hours and he said that should work. He worked efficiently and carefully, cleaning up as he went. After 2 hours everything was fixed and I paid by check. (There was a small fee for credit card use.). The only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5 is because the price is a little high but it will save you having a return visit - at least unt a few more things break around the house. read more

After reading the reviews here I phoned Handico to have them come and repair my closet shelving that collapsed and a wall that needed some filling in where the dry wall met. The first people I hired to move my bedroom door did not make the new wall smooth and it was incredibly obvious where the seams were. Scheduled for a time 7am to 8am when I was able to be there. Tom arrived in a timely fashion and was very nice. Came up the the condo to see what we were trying to accomplish that day...did not feel he could straighten the original bars out from the closet and did not want to risk it falling down again. So he worked on patching the wall. Did a great job. Looks wonderful and exactly what I needed. Very clean worker as well...and any dust he made he cleaned up. Really happy with him. So, he is scheduled to come back today and fix the closet (I had to get to ikea and get new bars). Hoping for a sturdy closet when I get home tonight!! read more

Tom from HandiCo. came to my rescue last winter when I had a frozen/burst pipe problem that required me to have part of my wall replaced. The project was made complicated by the fact that I had to have a part of my wall cut out, then have the city of Chicago water management team replace my leaky water meter, and then have someone come back and close up my wall. Everything went so smoothly -- Tom came and cut a hole in my wall, the city came and replaced my meter, and then Tom came back and patched up the wall. THIS ALL HAPPENED ON THE SAME DAY. Amazing. Meanwhile, they let me drop by the office to borrow a fan so I could dry out the part of the wall that had been affected by the leak. They couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I have another wall repair project coming up that Tom will help me with, and I will definitely be using them again for any and all other carpentry needs in the future! read more

HandiCo installed a fan on a high ceiling. I called, got an estimate, and scheduled an appointment. Two guys came on time, moved my furniture, assembled the fan and set up scaffolding. I then realized I was missing the down rod for the fan, it was in a separate box and UPS had failed to deliver it. I had to ask them to leave their scaffolding and wait for my call to return to finish the job. The HandiCo team was very relaxed about the snafu and agreed to come back later. Amazingly, UPS showed up with the missing box a few hours later. I was able to reach HandiCO right away and they came back that same afternoon and finished the job. I was very happy with the install job and I paid them and all was good. Later that evening the lens on the fan light became detached on one side and hung down. I called HandiCo and left a message. They called me back early the next day saying they were on their way to fix it! No arguments, just concern and eager to solve the problem.
