Good food, excellent service and a nice hometown atmosphere. Always happy to visit for a meal whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner!

It was ok...at best. The unsweetened ice tea as tasteless. The chicken sandwiches weren't bad. But they give you so few fries that you can easily count them. And we also ordered a chicken wrap but the chicken was so dry that the pieces would spill out like little pebbles. Just because you order something that's served inside a wrap or bread doesn't mean you give us poor quality piece of chicken. Work on this. N get the host to smile or be friendly. A great diner. The food is amazing and the portions are huge. They have this huge tent out back with these gorgeous palm trees and flowers. The service is outstanding! I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner and was not disappointed in anything. Everything is clean and they wipe down the tables and chairs after every use. This is win win. read more

I visited the Hampton Diner with a friend recently and I have to say I was impressed by how fast they came out with our food. Well, we only ordered chicken fingers and fries and quesadillas and waffle fries, but still, record time! My quesadillas were what I expected them to be. The menu has a lot of items; it was a little overwhelming. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. I'd come visit this diner again to satisfy my cravings when I'm in the area again. read more

The wifey and I had errands to run in Newton and stopped at the Hampton Diner for a quick bite. I ordered a cup of French Onion soup and a bacon-bleu cheese burger. My wife got Disco fries (Jersey style, kiddies!) The onion soup was perfectly decadent... gooey provolone cheese, sweet broth loaded with onions, a crispy crouton... messy and delicious! My burger arrived and it was a thing of beauty! 8 ounces of beef sitting on a Jersey hard roll with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, blue cheese crumbles, and loads of crispy bacon. When u order food like toast well done and eggs over medium iron should be a simple order to fill. Arrives toast on one side is beautiful soon as u turn it over its black as the midnight sky. Your eggs look perfect soon as u cut into them the white is all raw. When u say something the host said I should of sent it back ,I did and it came back the same way. I recommend going else where. Others also across from us compl as inedible about the Taylor pork roll being burnt at least there waiter apologized, I sent everything back but kept the toast and was charged $4 .89 cents fot the coffee and toast whole meal cost was 9.99 eggs, meat and toast. The food was fine: not great not distinctive, not wow but not really bad either. However, the restaurant has posted on a wall that you might not easily notice a sign announcing a 3.9% upcharge for using a credit card. Nothing on the entrance doors, nothing on the tables. While I don't mind knowingly paying a fee, I don't like it when the first time I learn of it is AFTERWARDS. In addition, the man who took my card didn't seem to want to return it. I had to ask. NJ is well know for it's excellent diners but I can't recommend Hampton Diner. Go to the Trolley Shop in East Bangor. read more

Ordered a fried chicken sandwich. I got chicken fingers on a kaiser roll. Went to pay and they charged me for using my debit card. I said you should tell people this practice and all three pointed to a sign. A sign you only see when paying. Unacceptable. The food markup is more than enough. I've been to 140+ diners in NJ now and this is fairly average. It's not amazing but definitely not terrible either. Our waiter was fairly new but friendly. I was disappointed he brought us the check and never asked if we wanted dessert. I did, but he disappeared so it was more trouble than it was worth. However, the beverages and food were good. The food came out extremely fast and our coffee was constantly refilled. I ordered the banana pancakes and they were good. There were plenty of bananas in the pancakes. My friend ordered a chicken sandwich which seemed a bit dry and bland. I would come back, just to try the dessert alone. read more

Came here for the first time today. Huge diner with a lot of seats, which was awesome because we got seated for four right away. Menu is pretty large and the pricing and amount of food is great. When our waiter came out and took our drink order right away. He came back with my coffee spilled all over the saucer and the creamers and then looks at me and says he forgot a spoon and he will be right back. He never came back with the spoon and I had to use my napkin to sop up the spilled coffee, which he didn't seem to pay attention to either (eventually I just got up and went to the waiter prep station and grabbed my own napkins since he was oblivious). After the drinks came out we waited a really long time for the waiter to come back. So long that another party had been seated, ordered and were almost finished with their meals before he showed back up, which I just consider to be poor on this waiters part. We eventually ordered the following: corned beef hash and eggs, Taylor Ham (pork roll) egg and cheese sandwich, a blt, Mexican breakfast quesadilla and pumpkin pancakes. The food was the bomb. Eggs done perfect with the corned beef hash. Mexican breakfast quesadilla was something we wanted to try. Chorizo, jalapeño, eggs and cheese and it had a bit of a kick to it. If you don't like the spice, you might want to pass but it was absolutely delicious. Egg, cheese and Taylor ham sandwich was great and the BLT was really huge for the price! The pumpkin pancakes were also delicious. They weren't dry and they had a sweet taste to them. So once the food got there all was good but they might need to address some of the wait staff and their work habits as ours seemed to be off in another world at times. He was nice but I prefer efficient and attentive. If you're craving some great diner food, this is the place to go! I look forward to going back and trying some more of their food and at some point the desserts!! read more

Average experience here at Hampton Diner. The service was spot-on, very friendly. There is a vast amount of outdoor seating, one of the best in the Sussex County area. I went on a particularly warm day but they had fans under the tarp set up over the tables. 10/10. My experience fell short with the food. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, except the sandwich was more chicken and bread. There was very little buffalo sauce and ranch, and I had to ask for extra on the side. First off, service was spectacular. The diner is clean and charming. We drove in from PA while we're were staying in a cabin after a day of hiking. We were so hungry and definitely scored here. The menu is massive! This reminds me of places I used to eat at on road trips with my family in the 90s. It's perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. Big Vaseline's of cakes and pies. Fun drinks and perfectly brewed coffee. Friendly staff and clean bathrooms. The food itself is quintessential diner fare. I'm vegan, and was able to find plenty of options which is AMAZING. Up front you've got the sort of crazy looking Greek guy behind the register, a case of cakes, pies and cookies that look amazing (but can't taste as good as they look because of some ancient diner code). The waitresses have been here or other diners for years. The ones who haven't been here for years will be before they know it. Located on 206/94/Hampton House Road just north of Newton, this place gets a lot of cars passing by. It's not too far from the more famous Yetter's, but this place is the real deal. Breakfast all the time? You bet. Coffee that's okay but not great? Sure. Fries with everything and a good pickle on the side? Of course. This last time we got a pot roast sandwich - never had one ever in my life and it was good - some grilled veggies on a flat bread sandwich thing. That was really good. The little people got pancakes with whipped cream and strawberries. Those were some of the best pancakes I've had in a long time, and I like a good pancake. Fluffy like mad, just a little crisp at the edges. A burger to go was rated fantastic by my son. Breakfasts there in the past have never disappointed. Home fries are crisp, bacon is done how you like it, and the service is really great. A lot of locals, but its a big place and plenty of room for everyone. Their food is yummy and everything an all American diner should be. Out of all the diner joints, of all the towns in all the world i discovered the smoked salmon omelet here and have yet to have it elsewhere that barely meets it's match. It is now my staple. I am just so tired of seeing the wait staff/servers as a whole touching their mouth, nose, ears, hair and fixing it, pulling up their pants and then directly serving customers with out washing their hands first. The owners spent some nice money with paving the parking lot and updating the outside of the building but forgot to update the inside of the diner and more importantly retraining the servers regarding maintaining proper hygiene and observe cleanliness in front of customers. Be sure to check your orders, as there have been a number of times that we have received our food only to find it wasn't how we ordered it. Stopped by for an early dinner. Seated promptly and drink order was immediately taken. Ordered the prime rib medium rare, came with choice of potato, had to go mashed, a vegetable and salad. The salad came out within minutes. Quite a big garden salad too. Plenty of additions on it, not just one slice of onion and tomato. By the time I was 3/4 of the way through the salad. My meal came out. The prime rib was a nice size portion, not too much fat. It was cooked closer to medium, but still good. The mashed potatoes were fresh. For $19, it was a great meal, couldn't finish it all, so I now have a nice breakfast to wake up to. 4 stars only because the rib wasn't cooked to what I asked for and the stewed green beans were more crushed tomatoes than beans. If you order a meal that comes with cake, it is not actually your cake of choice. Dinner for three came to almost $60 and we were excited to end our dining with cake and were then told we do not get to choose, and it was rum cake. I rarely turn down food of any kind, especially food I feel like I have paid for, but none of us wanted it.
