Came here on Easter Sunday with my family and luckily we were able to be seated before it closed (1 pm - holiday). Always wanted to check the town diner since I moved here and I'm glad I did. The place seems small from the outside but a lot bigger inside than I expected. Has an old school diner vibe to it. Got the two eggs (over easy) with bacon and comes with home fries and toast which was solid overall. Bacon was extra crispy (it comes that way - waitress claims) a lil too crispy for my liking, if they eased up on the crispiness it would have been perfect. Home fries were good as well. Pancakes are bomb, I highly recommend. I will be back to try out other items besides breakfast. If you're in the mood for good pancake * street parking * hot sauce - comes in packets. read more

Took friends there last night. Trouble ordering because the wattress had a hard time understanding English. Ordered a Chicken caeser rap. Came with Italian dressing. Couldn't understand that my wife wanted milk for her tea. I had to tell her (leche)/ milk in Spanish. Everything was over cooked. Fries, burger, the fishon the sandwich was burned around the edges. Stopped in on a Saturday in December and seated quickly. This place is small and unassuming- you are likely to walk right past it but DON'T! The food is delicious! I had the Spring Breakfast- eggs, pancakes, hash browns, sausage, bacon and ham ($10.95 -sweet!) and it came hot and loved it all. Fluffiest pancakes I've had in ages. Hamburgers were good, fries were excellent-super crispy. The only slight downside was the ambiance - but look at your food and your company and enjoy a great meal. It was a sad experience on a slow Friday morning. Waitress had 2 tables and was more interested in her phone than waiting on customers. What shout have been a 30 min meal turned into an hour and a half. 2 pancakes and a cup of coffee. Really? I had to walk to register for my check....she never came back after delivering my food. Never asked if I wanted more coffee or my meal was okay. Food wasn't that great. read more

I would give it a zero no stores if I can. We ordered iced coffee, which was terrible replaced our orders waited half an hour, and both of them were wrong. We sent them back. We waited again. I had ordered an omelette with corn beef hash. It was just chopped up, salty, corn beef that they threw into an omelette. Worst ever we had to leave. read more

This place rocks!!!!! The food is solid and super consistent! Traditional breakfast and lunch offerings with a few "out of the normal" items to give the place a point of difference. Everything is fresh and delicious! This staff is courteous and polite and fast even when they are busy! Pricing is more than fair for the portions you get! The atmosphere is cute and cozy. I just recently discovered this gem a couple of months ago as I was looking for a new place to grab some breakfast. I highly recommend it if you are in the Newton area. Friends and I stopped here after spending some time hiking the Appalachia Trail. We were looking for a yummy casual diner and this was it! The pancakes, ham, and potatoes were delicious and our food came pretty quickly for how big our group was. The reason I won't give five stars is unfortunately I only ever got half the food I ordered. The pancakes with strawberries were delicious, but I didn't get my eggs or ham. The waitress definitely seemed flustered but overall it was a great experience and we had a lot of fun! read more

Spring Diner is a small diner owned by a local family in Newton, NJ. They specialize in Mexican-inspired dishes (which are ALL fantastic), but they also serve all of the usual diner fair. I've eaten both breakfast and lunch here, and I've NEVER been disappointed with anything. In fact, I usually eat here at least twice a month. My favorite breakfasts are the Mexican omelet and the Mexican breakfast wrap. The cheese steaks are also incredible! Great French fries, in fact, everything I've ever had has been top notch. They have reasonable prices (including a 4% cash discount), and their portions are very generous. I usually get 3 meals from anything I order. Gizelle and Emily are the usual servers. They're part of the family who owns the diner, and they're ALWAYS smiling, polite, and ready to catch up with you on what's gone on with you all since the last time you were in. I'd rather patronize a small, local, family-owned business than a huge, anonymous diner like another one in Newton that I won't mention, even though the Spring Diner doesn't serve alcohol, I've never had to stand in line or wait for a table. The BEST thing though, is that they actually make and serve their own green and Chile Seco hot sauces (but you do have to ask for them, so DEFINITELY DO!). All in all, this is a 5 star, small, local diner that actually has character and a unique identity. Do yourself a favor, and visit them! read more

The reviews I read about this diner wwere enough to prompt me to go with my husband for a leisurely Sunday late morning breakfast/lunch. My husband got breakfast (which was good - not great). He got corned beef hash, which seemed like they were out of a can, home fries (not really seasoned too much) and toast. I opted for lunch. I got a Philly cheese steak. Oh my goodness - it was so good. The roll was perfect - soft, not too bready, the steak was tender, lots of melted cheese and onions and green peppers. The diner is cozy and very clean. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We will be back - probably next time for just lunch. I'm giving it 5 stars because my food was really good. My husband took a bite of my sanwich and was very impressed (he grew up in Philadelphia so he's a real critic of Philly cheese steak sandwiches). read more

Everything is cooked to order, the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating, and the diner itself is clean. It is a small place with a cozy feel and having been in Newton since 1969 and having seen this place change hands many times over those years, it is nice to have a place to grab something satisfying. For dinner I had a burger because that is how I will rate the place. The burger was done to order, medium rare, and was still textured nicely. With a side of fries, it hit the spot. My wife had a French dip and it was excellent. For breakfast, we have had as simple as three eggs over easy or pancakes to the Mexican wrap and eggs benedict. All dishes have been tasty and spot on. Smelled like arm pit when I walked in. Must have been 95 degrees in there. Waitress was polite but messed up order putting ketchup on sandwich after I specifically asked for no ketchup. Order took 20 minutes to arrive in an empty diner. That's ok because I was being entertained by a blaring tv over the counter the whole time I waited then ate. Food was actually quite good.
