Breakfast menu as of 02.26.2023

I have passed by this diner numerous times and finally stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. I am glad I did stop by. The place has a vintage diner vibe from the outside and in. Luckily it wasn't too busy and was seated promptly. I got my go to, two eggs over-easy, bacon, home fries and rye toast with coffee. The bacon was crispy and eggs cooked perfect. Also got the biscuits with sausage gravy (half serving) and tater tots, which was so good! Server refilled my coffee numerous times. Food and service was great and will be back again for sure. I would highly recommend this spot if you want that NJ diner experience and really good food. * Parking lot on premise

Stuffed French toast!

Kitschy retro dinner with good breakfast menu. Service was good especially since this is a small space, so very easy to get the attention of the wait staff. We had the stuffed French toast. Delicious!

This place is a hidden gem! Absolutely amazing! For such a small spot this place packs a punch. They really don't make diners like this anymore. So homey and friendly. It was packed and it took a while for the server to get to us but I wasn't bother by this whatsoever. The reason why I was let bother was she acknowledged us right away and profusely apologized for being the only server running around. Again the place was small but it was still super busy and I was impressed with how she handled everything. One we got our orders in it didn't take long for the breakfast to arrive. And arrive it did! We did not expect the portions we received. That with the quality of food, made us so happy that we were passing through and stumbled upon this place.

Sweet old train car diner from the 1930s! Used to be the Wayside diner in Wayne N.J. until 1958 when it was moved to this spot.

On my way to Stokes State Forest for my spring water, I noticed a sign outside this old train car diner, that read: Championship Barbeque- which I didn't realize at the time was an indicator that the man in a kitchen was a BBQ wizard! Its an old converted train car from the early 1900s that was initially the Wayside diner in Wayne N.J. until 1958 when it was moved to this spot. Chef Joe and waitress Cookie are your Hosts, and boy are you in for a treat. As I chatted with Cookie about the previous life of the diner as a train and its former home in Wayne, the aroma of fresh barbecue brisket and pulled pork is driving my taste buds wild! When Cookie set the plate down, I was floored. I have had what is some pretty damn good BBQ, but I was unprepared for what magnificence was set before me. If BBQ talents would elevate one's status in life- Joe the BBQ master would be a god. The brisket was so delicious, I dare not trim the fat off it- even the fat had a flavor that was too good to discard- fork tender, juicy, smoky; the pulled pork was out of this world. This can't be New Jersey- really...did my GPS send me south of the Mason Dixon line? As if that wasn't enough, the beans were also the best beans I had ever had- home made, intricately seasoned, sublimely smoked, deep with flavor of molasses, pork maybe? I can't even tell- I dont have the gall as a mortal to try and figure out what Chef Joe did, all I could do while eating was moan to myself...mmmm..oh man....mmmm... damn.... The hand cut skin on fries were also top notch- worth the carbs; it was also served with some great home made cole slaw. This combo plate came in just over 10 bucks, and guaranteed that I will be driving to Stokes even in the wnter to bottle my own spring water if it means a BBQ combo plate at Victorias' Diner- what a find. Don't you dare miss this!! Heres my entry for the Stokes Forest Spring: http://www.yelp.com/biz/stokes-forest-natural-spring-sandyston#hrid:rgZucPjeBVHgctWzmudGhg/src:self

***1 1/2 stars***…read more It's pretty rare for me to go below two stars, but we literally couldn't find any redeeming qualities other than a kid-friendly chalkboard off to the side. Rough, rough lunch and I'm picking the places going forward. I came here with my top-tier chum and #1 honorary young pup chum for a midday meal yesterday. This was an unfortunate recommendation by my chum, but in her defense, the biggest selling point was that they had a young pup section of the menu (which many of my suggestions didn't). This may have been a sign that it's time for the young pup to just order off adult menus going forward. This is probably a weird time of year to be over here anyway; this restaurant recently moved next to the baseball stadium, and December just isn't the greatest page on the calendar for America's pastime so it feels a little wasteland-ish right now. There were also a few random amusement park rides that we had to walk around to access the entrance (apparently more for a nighttime winter festival of sorts?) so the vibes were a little off to start. The interior was fine though - there's an interesting looking bar off to the left and high ceilings, so it feels more spacious than it actually is, given the overall square footage you're dealing with. I also enjoyed the cow decor, though I might be missing the joke with some of the cow/pig hybrid animals on display. My chum remarked that it seemed like the menu was designed by someone who'd never actually tasted the food, and certainly wasn't the same person who cooked it. Definitely a possibility, but my general impression was that this is ostensibly a family restaurant (remember the chalkboard?) with a menu only targeting young female adults, from the bar food to the cocktails. It's very strange. I wish there was a nicer way to say it, but the cocktails were terrible. I had their version of an Old Fashioned, which had coffee in it. Just did not go well together at all; there's a reason why Irish coffee with Bailey's was invented - not every dark spirit is going to work with coffee. I find it hard to believe this was taste-tested before being added to the menu. Never again. I felt worse for my chum though, who got a holiday twist on a margarita with cranberry. It was so beyond tart I could barely swallow it and it honestly tasted like cough medicine. In a quasi-NSFW comment, my chum mentioned that this drink might be helpful for a UTI, but alas, we were at a restaurant, not a pharmacy. At the very least, they need to retrain their bartenders on basic portions of a cocktail, but when the ingredients clash, that's a management issue. We got the Cow Wedgies to share as an app - basically, flattened mozzy sticks. I like the flattened concept but these were pretty bad. I'm assuming the issue here is they were in the deep fryer for too long because they had pockets of grease that would pop when you bit into them, almost like a pimple. One of those pockets exploded and stained the front of my hoodie. Not great - an unappetizing appetizer. The impression I got was that The Barnyard were pretty aggressively touting the chicken/waffles section of the menu. I went with the Winner Winner, which was another example of not understanding basic palates and taste profiles. This is a savory item - it has chicken, mashed potatoes and this gravy/corn concoction. Inexplicably, they then added this weird tangy sauce that would be better served on a bang bang shrimp app that completely ruined the dish. It's such an unforced error I don't understand how it happened. It's going to come as no surprise, but the service matched the overall quality of the meal. There were very few customers on the premises and yet our waitress was mostly MIA. She never came by to check on us after serving the food, despite making multiple trips to a table near us to inefficiently clear it practically one item at a time. It's very hard to give constructive feedback when an experience is this bad, but to me it starts at the very beginning - make sure the items on your menu taste good and that your staff is properly trained on basic hospitality concepts. The Kingdom of Sussex deserves a lot better than this.

You order at the counter and are given a placard for your table and your food is then brought to you. The biggest complaint from our party would be all drinks are for purchase not even tap water is given. Which is fine we had our own water. We ordered a side of waffle fries and the sloppy tots for the table. The side of waffle fries could've definitely been larger. The sloppy tots were delicious as the tots were well done and topped deliciously with beer cheese, bbq sauce, pork, and sour cream. They just needed a little salt. Everyone ordered a burger and they were good just super greasy. I ordered the pub burger in which the Irish cheese was definitely an acquired taste but the pretzel bun was delicious. The ya filthy animal burger I think would've been between with the coleslaw on the side as it made a mushy consistency. The stampede burger and bacon mushroom Swiss were both good. I will say for $15 per burger a little ridiculous it doesn't come with any side and just a pickle. The inside has almost a diner vibe to it but all the staff were friendly and polite.

If you don't want your entrées coming out with the appetizers, just give them a heads up, because the kitchen moves fast here. We started with the mushroom dish and a hearty soup...both full of flavor and the perfect start to the meal. Then came the star of the night: the lamb chops. Perfectly seasoned, cooked just right, and melt-in-your-mouth good. Everything we tried was fresh and satisfying, the kind of food that makes you want to go back the next day. The service was on point- Friendly and attentive, and the whole space has this quirky, cozy feel, like you're sitting in your grandma's living room with its mix of chairs and warm, homey vibe. It's also BYOB, which is always a win. We brought a bottle of wine that paired perfectly with the meal. Overall, Butcher's Grill is a must-visit if you're in the area. Once you enter through the store, there is a sign to wait to be seated. The place has a nice and bright rustic vibe to it. I really liked the decor and table setup. Even the napkins had a rustic vibe. Started off with the potato scoop ($16) which was my fave item. The potato was shaped like the Fritos scoop chip, and the cheese dip that came with it had chunks of cheese in a melted cheese sauce. For my main, got the pulled pork sandwich ($16), which came in a pretzel knot bun and creamy slaw. It was solid meal and very filling. Other mains ordered were the roast beef "pho" style sandwich ($16) which I had a bite of and it was good and not what I expected thinking roast beef. Roast turkey ($16) was warm and also tasty. Each of the mains came with a side of potato salad. I will be back to try the sloppy Joe and their dinner meals. I highly recommend this place if you want tasty, high quality meal for a fair price. * Highly recommend making reservations on weekends * Street parking * Good service
