I have been to Jumbo Land years ago. We normally don't stop in this area but decided to stop this time around. It's a really old school diner with booth seating and it's very large inside and out. I would consider this place to be sort of a dive but in a good way. It's not fancy at all but they do have a very large menu. I normally would have gotten a breakfast or a burger but decided to go for one of their popular specials. It included a soup plus their salad bar (yes they have a small salad bar). The waitress was so sweet. I sort of went with the flow. I ordered their meatloaf, with fresh sauteed zucchini with a baked potato plus their chicken orzo soup. The waitress told me that was her favorite so I thought, how could I go wrong. Everything was really good, better than I thought. I had to pace myself because I was definitely getting a vanilla soft serve for dessert. They had a large ice cream menu. They even have a window outside just for ice cream. If I could give zero, I would. First off, we got seated and waited for a bit and no one came. Then we asked for our waiter. She then came with an attitude. This place is awful! Every time I go I have a bad experience. My kids like that ice cream. Yesterday after work at an extremely busy facility I was exhausted and really hungry. I didnt feel like cooking dinner. So I went to jumbo land with my son who wanted ice cream. The price was astronomical for the value amount and service. The waitresses although nice. Some of them aren't really the brightest. The place hires these really young girls and they dont know what they are doing. We had inquired about several things. 1st question had to do with allergies. Very answer did not give me confidence and its life and death question so it should have been a concrete answer. It was my sons question and her response started with - i think.... I finally said will could you find out! When the food came none of the condiments went with them. The bill had so many up charges it was higher than prices of foods which already included the item. While in Branchville in Sussex County, I decided to stop at the Jumboland Diner. I wasn't terribly hungry and in fact was eating a couple of hours later, but I had wanted to go to the Jumboland for a while so I decided to get a light snack.  Like all of New Jersey, the Jumboland is open for outdoor seating and takeout. They had a nice picnic table set up so I decided to eat outdoors. Atmosphere: The Jumboland atmosphere is safe. The picnic tables are at least 6 feet apart. Plus they have a drive through to pick up your food. Is Jumboland the only diner to have a drive thru? Maybe, but I thought it was awesome. The outside is inviting and welcoming. Food: The Jumboland Diner menu has everything you would want in a diner. They have plenty of breakfasts from omelets, to steak and eggs, to lunch and dinner specials. They are also known for their salad bar which I have to wonder if it will return post COVID times. The other unique component is there is an ice cream stand attached to dienr. If you just want ice cream, you can get that too. is also known for their ice cream and they have a whole separate section for that too. How cool! Since I was eating somewhere else later (seriously was I diner pregaming?), I decided to order their Jumboland Special Salad. On a recent trip home to NJ from PA, my husband and I stopped for lunch around 2:30 P.M. My husband ordered a pastrami sandwich and I, taken by the generous size of a "homemade" eclair in the display case, decided that would be all for me. My husband's sandwich was cold and dry and my eclair was almost entirely inedible. The pastry seemed like plasticized cardboard and the filling was an egregiously salty lemon custard. I found this little gem only because my husband decided to take another route home from PA this afternoon. It was Visiting Day at my daughters camp in Honesdale, we were completely stuffed after having a big BBQ lunch, yet my little picky eater ate absolutely nothing and was famished, so we were looking for a place to stop for her to get a bite to eat. We walk in and I'm struck right away by the coziness and country town feel of the place. I loved all the little league plaques proudly displayed on their walls of the local teams they support. The diner is very clean and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Cindy is the head waitress and made sure I had a couple of take out menus to take home with me, and our waitress went out of her way to make copies of the ice cream menu for me, as they didn't have any. I really wished at this point I didn't partake in that BBQ lunch. I could tell by all the entrees that were being brought out that Jumboland delivers delicious food and very generous portions. Their menu is extensive: Breakfast consists of Farm Fresh Eggs, Specialty and Creative Omelette's, Breakfast wraps and Sandwiches, Breads, Muffins, Bagelry and different types of Pancakes, French Toast and Waffles. Lunch choices are Super, Triple Decker and Panini Sandwiches, Gourmet Wraps, nice selection of Burgers, Hot dogs, Pita and Gyros. Dinner choices are homemade Soups and Chili, Cold Platters, "Waist" Watchers and Diet Delights, Chicken Buckets and Dinners, Italian Specialties, Roasts and Entrees as well as Seafood, which is ALWAYS fresh. There is also a very nice salad bar in the dining area. We ordered the Banana and Chocolate Chip short stack. They were so loaded with each it was more than enough food for the three of us to share. In most cases, this would be a good thing, but ...... Jumboland also has it's own separate Ice Cream Parlor. Their Ice Cream menu is so amazing and indescribable I had to take pictures for you to see for yourself. Tommy Micos opened Jumboland in 1960 and it's obvious that this is a place that is loved by many. You leave with a full belly and a smile on your face. We went to see my 96 year old great Aunt Annie, and afterwards, we stopped here. It was raining out so we decided to use the drive through. I went with a large twist cone and my mom and brother got a scoop of hard ice cream. Total was just under $10.00. The good- Huge ice cream cone! They hooked it up! It was creamy and rich and tasted great. The lady working the drive through counter was incredibly nice and friendly! The bad- About halfway through my ice cream cone, I was taking a lick and noticed something solid. I took another lick and then looked down and saw something poking out of my ice cream. I pulled it out and it was a 2 inch piece of plastic wire! Looked like either a fishing line or the type of plastic you find on tags when you buy clothes. Whatever the case, I was shocked when I found it! I pulled it out and continued on my ice cream, but if this cone was for a kid, or if I had whoofed down my ice cream without finding it, this thing could have done some possible damage if it had been swallowed. I understand that shit happens, but a piece of plastic shouldn't be found in ice cream...ever! For that fact alone, I doubt I would come back to this spot. The first time that I had eaten at Jumboland, it had been phenomenal. The staff had been entertaining, the food amazing. However, the experience that I just had here with my mother was subpar at best. I cannot make a comment on them being short-staffed, as most people got laid off during the pandemic. However, I absolutely WILL make a comment on one of the two on the floor being extremely rude to customers and her coworkers. There's a massive difference between having a bad day at work due to being short staffed and literally putting down people. She seated nearly everybody in the section that the other waiter was working, but when he asked for a hand at the drive-thru, she gave him attitude, telling him she just had three tables come in. She seated two of those three in his section. I NEVER want to hear an employee complain that "nobody wants to work anymore" when I PERSONALLY KNOW PEOPLE who have applied to this place. Maybe the owner or whoever does the hiring should actually hire people. I had ordered a vegetarian wrap, my mother a Cuban panini. The food was terribly underseasoned. My mother could barely eat her panini as the pork chop that was on it was barely meat, just ribbons of fat and gristle. My wrap was OK, but, in all honesty, if you manage to mess up vegetables and rice... We ultimately had to leave, especially once someone who has been waiting at the drive-thru for a good fifteen minutes came in to order; flat out saying "I mean, if that's gonna be too hard for you guys". We went in to get the food from the counter, and we took it to our table. After getting everyone settled, we began to unpack our lunches. I had ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich, which came with fries and pickles. Resting in the box was my sandwich, and a single small pickle. No fries. Slightly Frustrated, I returned to the counter to ask for my side of fries. The service was quick, and the server brought out my fries a few minutes later. I was sympathetic, knowing about the staffing shortage, but it was still frustrating having to go back in to ask for the other part of my order. My cheesesteak was mediocre, with not much meat and piles of cheese on the bread, but it was still decent. The fries on the other hand, were delicious, just the kind of fries you want from a diner. My group wanted to stop at the ice cream parlor in Jumboland, but there were few options, so we took our ice cream needs elsewhere. Generally a good experience at Jumboland, as I've had in the past. Their french fries are also a highlight, some of the best I have ever had, and I consider myself something of a fry-spert. The wraps also seem to be of good quality. I would say the place could use a face-lift overall on its internal decor. Large flat screen TVs adorn... but only for the purpose of selling you advertisements, so, not really a value-add to the consumer looking for a peaceful dining experience. If you can't find something on their menu that you would like you have a problem. They have lunch and dinner specials with soup, open salad bar and delicious entrees. Their Italian food is also quite tasty. If you like cheesecake you won't find a better, creamer piece any place. It's better than a five star restaurant! I've been to Jumboland a few times and I haven't been disappointed with the taste of the food, but the quality is a big hit or miss. The place is small but it feels like you're eating at someone's home and the staff is friendly to match. When you first walk in, you notice that the diner is smaller than most and had a sort of antique feel to it. That's not a bad thing though because sometimes time tested is better. The menu is pretty big and has just about anything that you could want. The prices are reasonable and are on par with the cost of diner food elsewhere. I've personally eaten breakfast and lunch here and both are equally good. The reason I took two stars off of the rating is because I feel like the food is rushed out to the table and that they try to get you in and out quickly. That isn't bad if you're in a big rush, but if you're trying to enjoy your meal it's not ideal. When I ordered eggs and got hash browns with them they were burnt in some places. In addition I've had burgers that are over cooked and burnt on the outside and undercooked in the middle. That comes from having the grill on too hot. In my opinion this place is good to eat at if you're in a rush and you don't have high expectations. If you want to sit down and enjoy your meal then you may want to go elsewhere. The first thing I noticed about Jumboland was their jumbo menu which I believe is a mandatory requirement of any good diner. There was a ton to choose from and my only problem was narrowing down the various things I wanted to eat. Luckily my daughter was with me and we split two meals to get to try two things. I wound up ordering breakfast food and it was excellent. It was unique as well (a meat-lovers like omelette called the Colorado with ham, bacon, sausage, peppers, onions and cheese and a breakfast wrap called the Texas wrap with scrambled eggs, peppers, onions, ham and cheese). In fact they have a whole section dedicated to creative omelettes. The meals came hot, right and fairly quickly. The portions were more than filling as well.
