Plastic straws given with water Cream was in plastic cups Syrup was in plastic cups (corn syrup, no real syrup) Butter was in plastic cups Dipping sauces were in plastic cups Salsa was in a plastic cup The to-go box was styrofoam AND a plastic bag was given for the to-go box too We didn't use the straws or the plastic bag, but even so between 2 of us just for cream for the coffee and condiments for breakfast we must have gone through a dozen or more single use plastic containers. There's no reason other than laziness (not wanting to wash dishes?) for a sit down restaurant to use so much disposable stuff. read more

This was my first visit to Hampton Diner. It was 4pm on a Saturday. I took a seat at the counter and ordered the portobello chicken sandwich which came with fries. No television. I enjoyed my meal while listening to 80's pop songs with some more modern tunes mixed in. The fries were basic as can be expected but the sandwich was so very tasty. Greek salad was okay( only one olive) but the cream of tomato soup had zero flavor and way to thick. The roasted chicken was over cooked and hard on the outside meat. We went for an early dinner and had the senior special. My husband and I enjoyed our meals but he got a free dessert so he chose the cake of the day and we shared it. It was a rum cake. We started to eat it and there was an odd acidic taste. I had a few bites and then I noticed the whole inside of the cake had green mold growing in. It made me nauseous just to think we were eating that. I know they give free dessert with the senior special but does this mean they chose the old cake? How sad! As a result we will not go back. We told them. The owner? Came over and offered us a piece of cheesecake to go home. He said he knew it was fresh. Please we should have been comped. Truly a horrible experience. You know, it's a diner...this is NJ and we have a ton of them. This is one of the better ones in the area, if not the best one. They give you a ton of food. If you go in for lunch and want a sandwich, you will get a SANDWICH! I had a turkey and avocado sandwich today and it was piled to the sky with freshly carved turkey...I couldn't even finish half of it. It tasted fine, like turkey and avocado and that was about it though, some seasoning wouldn't have killed it although it did come with melted swiss cheese which I asked not to have on it. Included with my lunch was soup (I had a matzo ball soup, was ok wasn't hot and the broth was salty as heck but the ball was good), a choice of pasta salad, fries or fruit (I had the fruit, it was mixed melon, citrus fruit and grapes). I also got a choice of dessert which I declined but got to take home a slice of cake which my son enjoyed very much. Ok I think this is the best diner in sussex county.... I came here today for a quick lunch with my girlfriend. They have a soup & half a sandwich lunch special for $6.99 and that includes dessert! It is the standard diner fare. Nothing is blowing your socks off here, but for a quick and easy bite it was a solid choice. I went to see some friends and enjoy a night at the diner, it was nice seeing friends. Although we waited an hour and a half after ordering for our food. It came out mediocre over cooked with no care put into it. Then while eating this grool we noticed multiples of customers were served before us. No hard feelings to our waiter the diner it self seemed under staffed, but the service was also subpar. This experience made me lose all appetite to ever eat here again. Unfortunately, although the food as delicious and the service wonderful, the hostess (owner?) had an attitude that needs serious adjustment. Understanding there is a policy that doesn't allow other food or drink, her bitchy slamming down an empty cup for my daughter to pour her Dunkin' Donuts coffee into and then standing over her while she did it was completely unnecessary. Adding insult to injury, since it was a large coffee she slammed yet another empty cup for my alarmed daughter to empty the remainder of her coffee, again standing over her. Sorry you hate your life, lady, we just stopped in for breakfast. I'll spend my disposable income elsewhere. PS I left a $20 tip on a $25 breakfast because the waitress was such a sweetheart. Not family friendly! I came here with my wife and two small children in 1994 (before Yelp even existed). I haven't returned since even though I live in Newton. I go to Yetters instead. The rude manager women wouldn't let us even enter the diner just because my wife and I pulled up on motorcycles each with a child on the back. She screamed at us and waved her hands in the air like a madwomen frightening my children and telling us "Your kind is not welcomed here, ever!" I swore then to never return to such a rude and biased establishment. They should be ashamed of their behavior! I'm surprised they are even still in business. If they ever change (or have changed) hands I wouldn't even know or care because this rat hole has such bad memories for me and my family. read more

So I have driven by this place a lot and I was never much impressed by the outside., but we decided to give it a try today. The place was much larger and nicer on the inside than the outside would lead you to believe. The staff was super friendly and attentive. I was happy to see a bus boy be so helpful to the wait staff. I was also pleased to find out later when I complemented the bus boy to the manager it seemed to be a family establishment which I love. The food was okay. I asked for the corn beef hash to be crispy but it was pretty mushy and not very tasty. The food wasn't badly cooked just not the best I've had, but we did just order boring breakfast food. Came here with the family while out running errands. First time here and their first impression was excellent. Our waitress was great and attentive and the menu items were plentiful to say the least. I had the egg white omelette with spinach and chicken and home fries which was done perfectly. Potatoes were crispy and not oily and the omelette had huge chunks of white meat chicken in it. Wife had the roast beef panini which was delicious and the soup that came with it (chicken noodle) was perfectly seasoned and I season my food pretty aggressively. My son had the Taylor ham and pancakes and couldn't finish it all partly because the serving was huge and he was also picking on mommy's fries. The food was very good. With an exception of my fruit plate. Melon was not really fresh and have seen better days. However I was impressed with grapefrui, fresh and not bitter at all. I was really disappointed with the fact that they didn't asked me and brought all food at once. as a result my crapes were cold and an ice-cream on a top was totally melted by the tome I finished my eggs. First thing we experienced on this visit was attitude from the manager. When we walked in she wanted to seat us around everyone else and at a booth. We wanted a table. When we said a table she got an attitude. She then walked us to a table and walked off muttering something and then said, with attitude, sorry. We didn't know she was the manager at the time. I have been to this diner many times over the last 5 years. 5 years ago the food was good, service great, nice place to go. I've gone twice now in the last 6 months, and the food was horrible, my boyfriend ended up feeling ill later that night, the nachos I ordered the last time I was here had cold shredded cheese on top still, only the very top layer was melted, so I ate tortilla chips with cold shredded cheese, and some chili (which the chili was pretty good). I love the coffee here, and breakfast is okay, typical diner breakfast fair, but anything else you order that isn't fried you should stay far away from. read more

Growing up in this area, and have moved away, I always frequent this Diner when I am home. Today, I went in with an iced coffee and was told that I could not have it in the diner. When asked why, I got a rude response saying that it is just their policy. I guess it's because they want me to buy their drinks? I always get water so I don't know how they would benefit. I walked out because I think it is ridiculous and the manager woman was rude! I will not be taking my business here anymore. So you just lost out on approximately $30 over a $2 coffee... Went to the Hampton Diner for breakfast on Sunday and was very impressed. The outdoor tent protects from the sun and rain and is a very big one. Tables are spaced far apart. Our waiter Manuel, was wonderful. Very attentive and quick. If we needed anything, he was there in a flash. Great food as usual. read more

A diner with an extensive menu trying to be more upscale than an average diner. Their white board specials include a glass of wine. Yes they have a liquor license. The white board specials are usually very good but many are WAY overpriced. The large waitstaff is often inconsistent and inattentive. You often see them grouped together chatting. Overall it is an average diner....trying hard to be more. Lately there have been improvements. The waitstaff has changed. Instead of always having the same desserts, they are rotating them with new ones. The white board specials are more consistent and while they are more expensive than other dishes, they do offer more. If one is a frequent diner, one can't get a white board special. They now have some new items on the breakfast menu which are good. Just recently the started pasta nights (m,t,w) with a variety of decent dinners. I think they are trying to improve. read more

I am amending a review I posted in October 2016. Since then we have returned to the Hampton Diner to "give it another shot" as it's close by. The place is much improved in my opinion with the food being consistently good and the serving staff very improved also. It is also very clean with a nice counter if you prefer that. I am very disappointed. Not only was our order wrong, we had to ask for our sides, utensils, napkins, parm cheese three times...did not get the complimentary wine with the specials, the chicken that came in the meal I was given (not what was ordered) was pink in the middle and the fries that came with them were over cooked grease crisps. Nauseating, as a pregnant customer who also is servesafe certified I am disgusted. I did not have time to wait for my meal to be replaced for the mistake it was the first time, let alone 1/2 through the meal that was served. To our waitress who only said sorry and she hoped we enjoyed our meal, I did not and I did not enjoy telling the cashier to correct the bill for incorrect charges for the kids meal.
