My daughter got the chicken honey harissa bowl, I of course picked up the Mezeh green salad bowl and hubby ordered the power steak grain bowl. The last 3 times I've been to Rockaway location, they didn't have any chicken or many of the salad bar items. Today I decided to get the steak bowl instead since there was not chicken. I got to the counter to pay and saw some chicken on the grill. When I ask the employee why didn't he tell me that they were cooking chicken (cause of would have waited) I was told I had to order the chicken online. This location is intentionally saying they don't have chicken so customers can pay premium prices for the steak. When I got home, I also noticed they didn't give me any pita bread, something i always get with my bowls. I won't be going back l to this location. read more

Ordering online easy. Plenty of choices. I opted for a bowl with falafel and lots of veggies. Order ready for pickup when I arrived. Before leaving I asked for napkins, and was ASSURED they were in the bag with my food. I didn't ask for a fork, because who serves a bowl of food without a fork? Service was fine (maybe the little attitude I got with my answer about napkins could be ditched). Didn't stay long enough to asses ambiance, but outdoor tables in sunshine looked good. Food was delicious. Plenty of it. Next time I'll look in the bag to be sure I do have napkins and a fork. I'll go back, but withhold judgment for now. read more

Yum! Don't sleep on Mezeh. I'd never have guessed it's a chain. Reasonable prices ($15 for my pita) and just outstanding flavor and texture. It was hard to choose a protein because they all looked delicious in person. I went with the classic shawarma, with chicken, in a pita instead of the prescribed wrap. Creamy, tangy sauces, crusty, Maillard-blessed chicken, a freshly made pita - as far as food goes, heaven on earth. As a dine-in customer, while there were two parties in front of me in line, it actually took longer than I thought to be seen. That's because they're positively slammed with app orders. I think the word is out. Inside there is table and counter height seating, and the lighting and ambiance are stylish, yet not out there. Lunchtime on a Wednesday afternoon saw four dine-in parties comprising probably a dozen people. It's super easy to get to from 80, just like the rest of Rockaway Mall. First time trying out Mezah and it did not disappoint. The food tastes really good and fresh. I loved that the place was clean and you could see all the food being prepared and served. I ordered the lamb gyro and it was delicious. The lamb was not dry at all, which is very hard to do. We also ordered a bowl and the serving was very generous. They are a bit pricey but they do give you enough food. Can't wait to come back and try more off of their menu. read more

Not safe if you have allergies. They don't care. I have been to this restaurant 2 times. As a vegan [with extreme allergies], I have a hard time finding reliable restaurants. The first time I went it was opening week. I had zero problems. My order was correct and I had a fun meal with my family. Visit #2 was earlier this week. If I could give zero stars, I would. I verified twice while in line that the Open Sesame would have zero dairy [because extremely allergic], they nodded and confirmed. Both my mother and I are extremely sensitive to tiny traces of dairy. When they finished plating they called my dad over to pick up the trays. It was obvious they used taziki sauce instead of tahini. I brought both trays up and tried to explain to the young lady who made them. She blew me off and told me repeatedly she used the correct sauce. (Keep in mind the tag they print tells them exactly what to use.) When I tried to get a word in over her denial, a man came over and told me I was wrong- it's a special tahini. A seemingly newer addition to the Rockaway mall plaza, this was a great fresh dinner to grab after shopping. The setup is very similar to a chipotle or cava make your own or preset bowls/wraps/pitas. The guy would helped us took his time answering any questions and explaining any offerings that weren't straightforward. The shug is much spicer here than it's similarly named Cava counterpart and made with darker chilis. Their reward system is awesome and gave $5 off for signing up. read more

Excellent! Great service. Very cute ambiance and the food was super yummy. The portions are outstanding. One note to the managers: you should add a legend icon that says VEGAN not just vegetarian. We are vegans and we can have literally almost all of the toppings and a few of the dressings. It might help some dairy-free non- vegans too. I've been here two other times and didn't have a problem. This last time was HORRIBLE. I was missing 4 components and the rice was stale. Very crunchy and hard. To top it all off there is no way to get any help without going back in person. I ordered through Uber Eats but picked it up. I do not feel like driving back and if you call it is an automated system that says they are very busy. (It wasn't when I was there and it's after 9:00pm). This was a huge letdown and I only left three stars based on the other two times I ordered. If I only went based on this meal, it would be a 1. I've been waiting for this place to open since i saw the sign. Very excited for a different, healthier lunch option in the area. It's very similar concept to the chain Cava, which I also love. I paid less than $13 for my custom bowl. You choose greens, grains, protein, and then unlimited toppings, and there is a lot to choose from. I've been to Mezeh about five times; three of them in this location. I really wanted to like it, and gave them a couple of chances, but ... no dice. I mean, the food is decent. It's healthy, and tasty, and the pricing is not unreasonable. On the other hand, when I asked the guy making my bowl to swap out the spicy hummus in favor of the regular hummus, maybe he'd mention that the harissa dressing is also spicy? If I'm asking for one spicy thing to be removed, you'd think he'd connect the dots and ask if I'm trying to avoid spicy foods. (I( mean, come on, even Panda Express warns you when you're getting something spicy!) And ... the ambiance is just okay. It's kind of nice, and mostly clean, but there's an industrial feel, and none of the seating is all that comfortable. (Oh? You want us to eat fast and skedaddle? Like McDonald's, Panera, and Starbucks? Okay.) On the other hand, their rewards program, while a good idea, is not implemented well at all. Last visit, I couldn't sign into the app. It was broken, and giving a series of obnoxious error messages. Did they have a way to get me credit for the purchase? Could I read them my account number from the web site? The cashier said that that wouldn't work, but I could use info on the receipt to submit it later. (This is a normal thing at many restaurants, so why would I doubt her?) So ... they give me a "Merchant Copy" of the receipt, which ... doesn't have a bar code or any info to submit. I went back to the register, and the person there told me that it wouldn't work, and a regular receipt wouldn't have any new info, and if I wanted I could come back tomorrow (really? drive 45 minutes round trip?) and a manager could maybe do ... something. So, tonight, I asked for a small cup for water. The cashier insisted I take a big paper cup instead of a small plastic cup, which was ... strange. And then I checked my receipt when I got to my table, and I got charged $3.00 for a "house drink". Really? Tap water is a "house drink"? And this changed in the last four days? So I went back to the register, but nobody was there, and everybody behind the counter seemed busy ... or at least too busy to see what was up. So I gave up and got a soda. So, yeah, their sodas are crap. They're serving some fancy-pants brand in the fountain, which would be OK, except they don't taste all that good. And, on top of that, the cola syrup was out. And all I really wanted was some water. Especially since the bowl was TOO SPICY. So I guess the loyalty-program issue isn't that a big deal, since I doubt I'll be going back there all that often. The first time I had Mezeh was a few days ago when a friend brought it for lunch. It was delicious, which inspired me to bring the kids back for a quick dinner one night. Unfortunately, we saw a Mezeh sign for "pizza" available online, so we spent like twenty minutes attempting to figure out how to order pizza. Apparently it was not possible. I tried every ordering service, creating an account, using their app, etc. very frustrating that they would advertise something that they don't actually offer. I will probably be back when it's just me, because the food was great. But I don't want disappointed children again, so I will avoid it for dinner. I had the Mezeh Classic (rice bowl) and my wife had the Falafel bow. Both were excellent. The service is quick and one of the reasons is the manner how the service is done. You enter into a line (similar to a burrito line like Chipotle) and you can assemble your own Mediterranean food whether it be a bow, salad, or otherwise. They have a great variety and the service (it should be noted) exposes the kitchen which denotes how clean and well kept this restaurant is. The ambience is amazing with a combination of lights, music, and tiles that make you feel you are abroad in Turkey or any Mediterranean country. read more

First off...excellent food.... Delicious! Here's the issue we had. Order was placed on line. Pickup time was given. We arrived 10 minutes after specified time and the food was not yet prepared. The place was practically empty. 4 workers present. When we arrived home we found the receipt had several items crossed off each order and those items missing from the meal. We tried calling the phone number on the receipt, however it was a "non working number". We brought the meals back to Mezeh (driving 5 miles, so soon to be 10 miles out of our way). The cashier, who also prepared the meals, said they were crossed out because they were "out of those items", including the Falafel in a "Falafel Salad!" That was bad enough but they charged us as if each meal was complete! No equivalent replacement items! No apologies. No credit for a future visit. This is an issue with training and management. Excellent food but the staff are careless, incompetent and belligerent. One time I ordered a fountain diet coke at checkout. When I went to the fountain there was no diet coke because they must have run out of syrup. When I went back to the cashier to tell him I'll take a can of diet coke instead, he said I could not do that because he already gave me a cup for the fountain drink and refused to refund me for the drink I did not have. More recently I was there with my daughter. This time, a different cashier charged me for three bowls instead of two that we got. when I asked why, I couldn't understand his explanation or accent. I paid as we were hungry and wanted to get going, only to discover shortly after that he had charged me for the stranger way behind me in line. He just assumed we must be together because she had the same complexion. When I asked for a refund he said he couldn't process that (couldn't, or just couldn't be bothered?). He told me to collect from the lady he charged me for. She didn't have enough cash on her to compensate me. Instead of apologizing, the cashier, who never spoke clearly himself, now accused me of not understanding English and claimed that he explained to me what the charges were for. He was not only incompetent but rude too boot. This could be a great place if it were not for the stupid, belligerent staff. I wish I could find the owner and advise him to replace his staff read more
