Unfortunately, 0 stars is not an option. I purchased a Mitsubishi Outlander in January 2020 from Hampstead pre-owned, an egregious mistake. The guys at Hampstead Preowned are masters of deception. They have a very comfortable, friendly environment which is the most disappointing part of my experience. I thought these guys were family; they made myself feel like such. Hampstead is not family. I accepted my car with a few problems; cracked windshield, minor body & interior damage. I accepted the vehicle due to the signed binding agreement that we had. Hampstead pre-owned promised to repair any of aforementioned problems if they had gotten any worse in 6 months. Prior to purchasing my car, the guys at Hampstead were overly communicative, calling many times every day until the car deal was final. About 2 months later, i made many attempts to get in contact with Hampstead. No one would return my calls. Every time i called for weeks i was told i would get a call back but i would never receive that call. After a few more months i decided to trade-in the trash i was given from Hampstead Pre-owned at the Chevrolet dealer & purchased a brand new Chevy Malibu Hybrid. Best decision ever & i have been happy with my Chevy for two years and counting. Sadly the mainstream dealership is more trustworthy than this local dealership. If you purchase a car here, you will regret it. I try to convince everyone looking for a car that i know to stay far away from Hampstead Pre-owned. They are MASTERS OF DECEPTION. Good at sales but the service department is slow, difficult to get into in a reasonable time frame. We tried contacting owner several times, left messages and stopped in and left a message, but he never called back. We ended up having to take care of the repair on our own. read more

Update: it appears Hampstead fraud cars has been trying to have my reviews removed. Good try. UPDATE 1: I spoke to a manager, Jason. He agreed to let us bring the car in on a saturday, and his mechanic would look at it. No promised to repair were made, and that;s fine. I agreed. Update 2: Less than an hour later, the owner/GM called me. He proceeded to yell and me and threatened us. He told me he didn't give a damned what Jason told me. I have to presume Jason spoke to him before making his offer to me though. I told him I would update this with the facts that he gave me. 1) He sold this car to a friend of his, who was buying it for my friend. 2) He sold it AS-IS. 3) We still owe money for the repair that they did. 4) The friend who was bought it was supposed to handle any repairs. 5) He took a $1000 loss on the car. ALL OF THAT IS TRUE! (Though I doubt that any dealer would ever take a loss on the car. JMO, but maybe he is actually telling the truth. And he proceeded to threaten me. This review needs to come down or he will sue for every penny in small claims court! (6 or 7 hundred dollars) So, what have we learned from the company who's slogan is "Our reputation is our foundation:" Their reputation is more important than selling quality vehicles. NEVER buy a car from them that is sold "AS-IS!" I wonder how many other bad reviews got taken down because of threats of a lawsuit? Maybe zero, maybe a lot. I don't know. Will I take down this review? Nope. Will I update it, whether positive or negative? Absolutely. Here is the thing. When the radiator broke, and the car kept stalling, we didn't post a bad review. We didn't expect it to be fixed for free. We expected that they would repair the car. When the transmission was dying, we didn't expect them repair it for free. would have been nice, but it could have been a quick easy fix, or the transmission could have needed complete replacement. We just wanted them to treat us fairly. And not to be complete xxxxxxx. Maybe if Erika had offered to have her guys look at the transmission instead of attacking me for telling the world that the transmission was dying, we wouldn't be here. Maybe if they would change their attitudes, I could believe that this was a one off. My guess is that they treat all disgruntled customers like this. Yelling and threatening. Nice way to do business, guys. Nice foundation. Had a problem with a car recently purchased, working with them to see what can be done. Here is the long and short of our adventures with them: We bought a car from them. Within a month, the radiator gasket went, and the car over heated on a trip from ocean city to Rockville. In the winter. Car died on side of the road. Hampstead was "Nice enough" and picked the car up and repaired it. Repairs at OUR cost. because Erika from the business office said they are not psychic. They were also "generous" and let us drive the car away, and make payments on the vehicle. We still owe money on those repairs. Yesterday, while making a payment over the phone, I complained to Erika about it, and oh, the transmission was having problems. I also put up a one star review. She insisted I take the review down, because it was untrue about the transmission. "We don't know whether there is a problem with the transmission." Well this morning, the transmission died, on my friends way to work. She may lose her job now. The car is slipping out of gear, but she is trying to make it to work, so she does not lose her job. I left a message for Erika letting her know the transmission is dying or will be dead shortly. We will see whether they will cover repairs to the transmission. Oh, and apparently, they never bolted the engine back in properly, because it is rattling, a lot. I will update this review with any progress, good or bad. Hopefully they will stand by their slogan about their reputation. read more

My husband and I a great experience. My husband stopped by 30 minutes before they closed and they treated him well and got us in the van we wanted. They didn't have enough time to detail it so we were able to bring it back on Monday to have it done. They did an excellent job on that as well. I purchased a Honda Accord coupe for my daughter in 2018. I chose this dealership because they were a small family business and seemed to specialize in used Hondas and Toyotas particularly for teens and young adults. The engine and ac of this car failed one year later in 2019. I contacted Hampstead, not about free repairs but assistance with a reasonable repair price since the $9k car totally was useless within a year. I spoke with Wendy the service manager and she said that she would help. I was not under warranty and did not ask for anything free. She said that she would find a discounted engine and give me a discounted repair price. Two weeks later i had not heard back from Wendy. I called her again and she said give her a few days. She called back with a pricy cost for an engine and the labor rate was still high. I asked if she could find an engine with more miles in order to bring the cost down and call me back. I also asked if she could go ahead and schedule me for an appointment in September because I was definitely coming there for the repair. She scheduled that appointment for the second week of September. Wendy never called back. I called twice. The September appointment passed and there was no call. So Im certain that there was never an appointment. I ended up going elsewhere to get new engine and am still working on getting the new ac. Both of which are very expensive repairs. In short, there was no follow through, no empathy and no resolution to engine and ac failure in 1 year of purchase. I contacted them in good faith for a resolution because I assumed the service would be as good as it was when I purchased the car. After purchase, they are done. My original review for them was on Google. I tried to find it to revise it. I originally gave it a 5 star review for the sale of the car. I paid for the car as a cash/check transaction.... so you can be sure their service was great. However, the car should have lasted longer than a year. It was my daughters birthday present. Note, I gave the 5 star review because at the time it was true. But also know that they called me several times after the purchase and offered $25 for the 5 star review. So be skeptical of those reviews. Everything in this posting is true and I hope it won't be refuted. Buyers should beware. read more

Came here 2 weeks ago and the car I wanted was sold. They offered me 2500 for my trade but I wanted the car that was no longer available. Also my credit application was approved. So I went back today I Found 2 cars that I was interested in. I would have definitely purchased one of the two. They took my keys and asked me what I wanted for my trade. I told him I was offered 2500 2 weeks ago. He (Adam) comes back and tells me there is a lot wrong with my car. (Nothing had changed with my car from the prior visit) non the less I decided to leave as I felt they were trying to rip me off. I asked for my car and keys and they took forever to find them. I felt as tho I was being held hostage. When we finally got my car back I was told things were unplugged under the hood and he said it had codes. My sisters fiancé is a auto mechanic and he was with me. He had his scanner with him and there was no code. Bad business ethic. Bad customer service. I'll buy from a reputable dealer. I forgot to mention they re ran my credit without my permission. Nor was I told they were running another credit check (which lowers the Credit score.) Purchased a 2008 Lexus RX400h for $16K, it broke down within miles of leaving the lot. Bernadette the sales rep didn't returned my texts or calls, and I was stranded on the road side for hours. She returned my calls and texts immediately however when communicating about the purchase of said Lexus and a Corvette, that I thankfully decided to pass on because it was likely a lemon too. You walk into this place and there are flies everywhere and no one even speaks to you to ask if you need assistance. They refused to return my money despite them selling me a lemon that broke down immediately after purchase. Then I was forced to purchased another car and they acted like they did me a favor by taking $700 off of the overpriced retail price. Anyone off of the street could haggle that! Worked with the General Manager on it and was told they drive the cars home and use them for personal use to ensure the cars work, i.e. they run up mileage on the cars and clearly do not check to ensure the cars work. He treated me like he was doing me a favor when I was stuck buying a car from them because they refused to refund my money. Completely presumptuous and did not care anything about the drama I experienced with the purchase. Hands down not client/customer-oriented. Do not recommend buying anything in this place. Completely condescending and unprofessional back of the woods operation. Thankfully I wasn't financing as I'm sure they prey on people and charge astronomical interest rates. I had initially thought I found a great dealership to purchase pre-owned vehicles but after this experience I wouldn't buy a pencil from them. At first Andrew and Fish was all cool with me until I said I wouldn't be able to put any money down until the next day. After that they didn't want to do any type of business with me. I found this used car lot through Carfax used cars. My nephew was looking for a good used car and on their website they have many. We drove 47.5 miles and it was well worth it. He was able to find a Toyota Camry with low mileage for a very good price. The salesperson Chris was very helpful and personable. As was all the staff and the owners. I plan on purchasing another vehicle in the near future. I totally recommend this business to anyone looking for a good used car and a good experience. read more

Beware if you leave a deposit with this dealership. I helped a friend attempt to purchase a car from this dealership by giving them what was supposed to a $300 refundable deposit. Gave them the deposit but my friend ended up not wanting the vehicle. Hampstead Pre Owned did what they could to keep the deposit but the bank was finally able to refund the amount back to my card. My husband and I drove an hour to see a vehicle. Got her a half an hour before they closed. We had to tend to our baby after an hour long drive before looking at the car. Two people asked us at different times if we needed help and we said yes we want to see a car but need to get her squared away first. They both said ok. No one came to speak to us after that. No heads up that they closed at 5:00. And everyone just left. One employee drove out of the parking lot and saw us at the door. My husband waived to get his attention and he deliberately looked the other way so he wouldn't have to stop. Won't be buying here solely based on terrible customer service. read more

Sales staff was nice, helpful and not pushy at all. But, good luck finding a vehicle that does not have damage or need repair. They lure you in with low prices and when you get there you find out why. They all have damage to them. My husband stated it perfectly when he compared it to trying to find a scratch and dent appliance at Sears Outlet. We did finally find a vehicle without much damage, at a higher price. We did not end up buying because during the negotiation of the deal, they wanted to add on several fees for detailing and body work. Nope, that is not something the buyer should pay. read more

I bought a car from this place. When I was ready to buy the owner wanted to talk to me in his office and was nice at first, getting to know me, and then steered the conversation to talking about how he built this dealership from the ground and how "important the Internet" and online reviews are nowadays. Lol, I was wondering, does he have something to hide? I wasn't too put off by his lecture so I got to signing papers with one of his employees, who handed me an agreement that disputes over my vehicle should go to arbitration before court. I don't care for arbitration and I'd rather sue someone if I'm in my rights, so I respectfully opted to not sign the arbitration agreement, which was spelled out on the paperwork as an option. The owner must have heard I didn't want to sign the arbitration agreement so he barged in the room, trying to convince me to sign it, and again I told them that I chose the opt out option spelled out on the agreement. At that point he crumpled up the paper, tossed it behind into the trash and walked out of the room without another word. It's amazing when you see grown men act like children. He was really immature and entitled, much like a lot of older guys! Anyway I signed the rest of the paperwork with his underling and the car ended up being a former smokers car and still stinks to this day. read more

Hands down horrible service!!!!! I was promised everything and was told the run around from multiple sales personal. All's they wanted was us to prove the highest income we could possibly prove for the highest commission they could receive. Thye lied about what we were approved for, three times, then lied about a vehicle we where selling back in terms of value, lastly then wanted cash down also. Who has a 6,000$ income for one person in a relationship, and needs more proof to purchase a used car with 50,000 miles on the vehicle? I would be a BMW or something. We drove and hour and a half, Looked like several vehicles where touched up with spray paint, (seriously) with dried paint drips down the side mirror as if someone spray painted it, or little dings just touched up with paint from a finger! Bought my Toyota Camry from here. Owner Anthony was great and so was the salesman we talked to unfortunately, I can't remember his name. We looked at 5+ cars and were able to test drive the ones we wanted to. They didn't try and harass us like most dealerships do to try and keep us for our business. They were very respectful in how they interacted with us and everyone that we saw here. They worked very hard to match me with a car that was great for me and that would be reliable. I would definitely recommend this place, and I have, to my friends and family and will definitely make this a place I go to before any of the bigger dealerships! read more

I just bought a 2009 GTR from the this dealership. Have had nothing but issues out of the car. Check engine lights, car is missing catholic converter (which shouldn't have passed Maryland inspection). I was told the car was taken to a Nissan dealership to just looked over. I never received any documentation of the visit so i took the car to Nissan myself and received a list of 17 different things wrong with the car. Including transmission leaks, rear shocks are blown, brake pads were below standard. The total is fix the car and get it back to road standers would be around 8-10k. If you're thinking about buying something high priced from this dealership, i would advise not to. read more

On 08/14/2019, I contacted about a vehicle and set up an appointment to test drive the car for the following day. Thena Sky of the Customer Care Team seemed very eager to get me in there and wanted to make sure I got the "VIP experience"...she emailed and texted me several times about my appointment confirmation. She wanted me to put a deposit down to be sure that the vehicle would be available for me, but I declined. I checked with her 1 hour prior to my appointment time that the car was still available before I made the hike out there. It was. I drove out to the dealer and Matt was my sales rep. He never shook my hand, but said he would go get the vehicle and "oh by the way, did they tell you about the arm rests?"...apparently they were damaged but were going to be replaced. This is something that would have been nice to know beforehand, not as fun when it comes as a surprise. So then I am waiting and waiting and waiting for Matt to come back with the car. Eventually he comes out of the office with the manager. Come to find out, the car is in their mechanic shop with a dead alternator and would not be available to drive. How did they not know the car had an issue?! Why would they schedule my appointment AND confirm it?! This is EXTREMELY unprofessional given all the lead up to the appointment and not letting me know this prior to driving all the way out to this dealer. When I told that to the store manager he argued with me that the car "was still available"...okay, technically it hadn't sold, but I had no idea this meant I needed to ask if it was actually running, especially if I scheduled a TEST DRIVE. He didn't make any effort to try and make up for the terrible service. Never going back here and I recommend everyone else avoid it!!! read more

My girl friend and I stopped in on the evening of Jan 18th. She had been looking to get a nice used car and had been looking at the selection of cars on your website for a week. She is a born resident of Carroll County and previously new of Hampstead Pre Owned and had heard they had a good reputation. We get to the lot ( and it is a tight lot ) trying to figure out were we could possibly find a place to park so we could look to see a couple of options she had been looking at. After a few minutes I pulled down one of the lanes and she saw a vehicle she wanted to look at real quick. She got out of my truck to walk up on the car to see if it was one of the ones she was looking at online. A moment later one of the sales people pulled up on my truck in a aggressive manner. He got out of the vehicle he was driving and started waiving his arms and yelling something. I couldn't hear him with my windows up so I just simply backed up. Then I pulled back down the lane to pick my girl back up when she told me what his was saying. He was ranting BACK THE F--- UP and waiving his arm, and then he had the stones to call my girl friend a STUPID FAT BITCH before he got back in the car and pulled up. Well all I can say is he is THE STUPID F--KING IDIOT. She was there with a pocket full of cash ready to buy a vehicle out right and your dealership lost a sale. My advice to the owner of that S@%$ Hole is get your sales team some lessons in customer service because they suck. You aren't worth the 1 star I had to give to post this review. I know how frustrating buying a car from a dealership can be. Dealerships who are high pressure, selling over priced cars and the old bait and switch. Salespeople who either ignore you or are too pushy. I worked with salesperson Sierra for about 2 weeks before we actually went to look at cars. She also worked with us to get financing for my son who had no credit history yet. She was so patient with us as we went through the process. We drove over an hour to visit this dealership and it was well worth it. Sierra was bright and cheery to work with and boy she knew her cars. All the cars that were on the website that we wanted to look at were there at the dealership. We were originally looking Honda Civics but Sierra mentioned she had a really nice Toyota Corolla available which is what we ended up getting. The car was listed about $1,100.00 under the CarFax value, so there was no need to haggle! The car was in great shape with no additional work needed. They give you the CarFax Report with the car so we knew the cars value and that the car had no accidents and was well maintained. We then went through the finance process with Finance Manager Patrick who was very helpful and worked with us to make financing the car as easy as possible. When we are in the market for another used car we will definitely go back to Hampstead Pre-Owned! read more

This was our second purchase from Hampstead in two years, both Honda CR-Vs. We returned last month to buy a replacement vehicle for my daughter, who lives in Georgia, because we were pleased with the efficiency of the sales process and care we received the first time. Those things were true this year as well. And the car is great. But a few days after the sale, we were driving it south when the SRS (airbag) light came on. We took the car to the local Honda dealership, which diagnosed the issue as a bad cable reel. The repair cost over $600 in all. We talked with the folks at Hampstead, who understood that our daughter's safety was paramount, and they ended up agreeing to cover the cost of the repair. In my experience, buying a used car at Hampstead is as easy and straightforward a process as you're likely to find, and the staff will stand behind the product and make things right if there's a problem. read more

When my husband and I pulled up, about 3 people saw us from the window but NOBODY came out to greet us. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and walked around for 10 minutes looking at the cars and still NOBODY came out--- not even so much as to acknowledge our presence. I purchased a 1999 Subaru Forester at Hampstead Pre-Owned back in July after seeing it on CarFax, and I had to have it. Hampstead had gotten it only the night before I went there. It had only 65,000+ miles at the time, but, the vehicle was a bit dinged up and there were many petty issues, such as a missing mount to the hood resting-rod; the accessory panel on my driver's side door was untethered; compartment covers were detached; the driver's side door had been pushed in; the radio didn't work right, etc. But the car ran like a dream! So, after much deliberating and looking at other cars, I decided to take it. Hampstead, took care of every issue and even installed a new, upgraded stereo. They detailed it and I was amazed at the transformation. After a week of ownership, I discovered an oil leak, which they promptly fixed. Then my check engine light came on and stayed on, but, there were no service openings until after the 30 day warranty was expired, but they treated it as still under the warranty. They repaired the problem at no charge and I've been enjoying my ride ever since! They bent over backwards to accommodate me and I WILL do business with them the next time I'm in the market for a vehicle. I've referred a couple people to them, but, not sure they followed up with it. I will continue referring people to them. read more
