My visit to this restaurant was a wonderful experience. Our waitress, whose name I unfortunately do not recall, was nothing short of magical. She was very kind, welcoming, and informative. She didn't make mistakes or anything like that. But she clearly did not want to be our server. She was dismissive. Impatient. Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here. It's juuuust outside the market which makes it much more pleasant to eat at than all the tourist traps nearby. The food was definitely not what we expected from a Tom Douglas restaurant. Ordered the smoked cod (we were surprised by the ritz crackers it came with) it was just ok. The clams were presented on focaccia which soaked up all the juice and leaving them on the dry side. The shrimp nuggets came in a patty and were mediocre at best. The only thing that was worth anything were the potato rolls. Our server was very pleasant. Dirty martini was good. We shocked that the bar was out of Pilsner and Rainier on Friday night. We don't go out very often and we're really looking forward to the delicious food Tom Douglas is known for. This didn't not match our previous experiences at his other restaurants. an amazing gem in pike place, with an amazing happy hour from 3-6 daily. we came for the oysters that are $2, we had the hama hama ones, which were delightful, they tasted fresh and were smooth and i would even say creamy. the roasted oysters were also good, tastes kind of like a mac and cheese with breadcrumbs. the fries were also amazing, salted and fried perfectly and the star of the dish is the mignonette mayo, which is so unique, had to dip our burger in it too! also really enjoyed the burger! half off during happy hour and definitely worth it! just a good classic burger, juicy, came with a cornichon pickle and pickled pepper. also not too busy even on a saturday afternoon! great spot, with indoor and outdoor seating! read more

Stopped in during happy hour and sat a the bar. Bartender was friendly and helpful....I ended up ordering a bunch of random happy hour items (I couldn't make up my mind & it all sounded good). The Bartender handed it like a champ and didn't make me feel like I was a total pain. On to the food!! My drink was a dirty martini and made to perfection. The best reason to come here is the happy hour oysters--fresh, delicious, and a fantastic deal. From the regular menu, the wedge salad tasted good but felt overpriced. The burger was solid and the steak fries were great. Service was on the slow side. Our waiter reminded other tables before happy hour ended but skipped ours, which felt odd. When my burger arrived, it had a pepper toothpicked on top. I'm allergic, so I asked for a fresh bun top, but was told, "Just take it off, you'll be fine." A quick swap would've solved it. We walked in and were warmly greeted, which started things off on a good note. Once seated, our server enthusiastically raved about nearly everything on the menu, which got us excited to try a few of the highlights. We started with the Martini Dip, which she described as "ridiculously good," but unfortunately it fell flat and surprisingly bland for something with such a unique concept. Next, we had a cheeseburger; it wasn't bad by any means, but there was nothing memorable about it either, just an average, no-frills burger. Lastly, we tried the Ginger Shrimp Nugget Sliders, which were hyped up as phenomenal but turned out to be quite underwhelming and forgettable. Service was mediocre; our server didn't check back to ask how everything was or offer drink refills, we had to flag her down ourselves. All in all, I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, and I wouldn't recommend it if you're expecting something special. I so wanted to give a 4-star review; the location and ambiance is great, prices are fair for the food quality, when prepared as ordered. This brings me to the service... I had ordered the sockeye salmon as medium-rare, which was the chef recommended and what I enjoy, but what I received was WAY over cooked and chewy (not enjoyable at all). Our server NEVER came back to check on us for me to inquire about the temperature! It was not until after the check had been paid I was able to ask about the temperature and it turns out the order was entered wrong. The server seemed confused as to why I didn't say anything until I pointed out I never had the chance to. The only compensation offered was a dessert, but this was pointless as we were leaving and no way to receive a take away dish with us. Again, I really wanted to give a 4-star - but the overcooked entree was just too disappointing. read more

My cousin from Louisiana and I, from Everett, WA, were spending a day at the Pike Street Market. Even though we had a 7PM dinner reservation at the new Tom Douglas restaurant "Half Shell", we decided to take advantage of the $2.00 fresh oysters at "Half Shell". We delayed any other lunch, sat at the outside dining At "Half Shell" at 2PM and enjoyed a marvelous experience that included a wonderful wait person, lovely glass of wine, and splendid raw oysters with a beautiful icy mignonette sauce and the mini Dungeness crab roll. As we spent the rest of the day at the market, we looked forward to dinner at the "Half Shell" with a friend who works at a major hotel in the Seattle downtown area. My Louisiana cousin ordered the salmon and was absolutely delighted with her meal. As I was not terribly hungry, I ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes with Dungeness crab remoulade. It is difficult for me to state that this item was disappointing. The tomatoes were barely green as they had obviously been picked at least one to two weeks early and they were hard as rocks. The sauce was disappointing mainly because the tomatoes were way too raw. It was surprising that the cook didn't remove them from the menu realizing that the tomatoes were not ready to serve. My friend who joined us for dinner was looking for a large salad and the only one offered did not appeal to her. Therefore she ordered a rather strange dinner of side dishes which apparently did not thrill her. While my cousin was absolutely thrilled with her dinner, I found the meal definitely wanting. I see that restaurants - at least in Seattle - no longer have bussers. Therefore service is not quite the same - not bad at all but not so wonderful either. I would like to see a dinner menu rewrite. Obviously Tom Douglas knows how to run wonderful restaurants however this one needs some work. Staff were very nice and service was as much as they had time to give, While Tom Douglas knows how to run excellent restaurants, we believe this one could use some rethinking of the dinner menu as well as more training for the Chef to learn when to determine that the product is not ready for use. i Feel certain that this Restaurant will become a favorite destination in the future. . read more

We wanted to watch the sunset at the overlook park and get dinner beforehand, so thought this spot would be perfect. We were celebrating our 6 year wedding anniversary, which we mentioned in our reservation but no one acknowledged this. The server took our order quickly, but that was the only good thing about the service. Maybe we ordered too much food (2 sets of oysters, clams and 2 entrees), but it took 40 minutes to get the oysters and then a long delay in getting the clams and another long delay in getting our entrees. Some folks (especially a big group) that were seated way after us got their small plates AND entree before all of our food came out. They also took our silverware while removing our small plates so we had to ask for a new one, and they didn't even apologize. The server only checked on us once in the whole 1.5 hours we were there which was disappointing. The food was solid but for over $200 for 2 people and the lackluster service, we certainly won't be back. read more

I went last week and took one to-go and first off, there was half the amount of crab I am used to it in a roll ( I usually go to Market, located next to Seattle Art Museum, but it was closed, so I decided to give this place a try). Not only was it a very small portion of crab, it was super bland, the bread was mediocre AND there were three pieces of shell! Unacceptable! I subbed the fries for a salad, so my total was $55.
